Is it worth doing Kindle publishing in 2022?

I get asked this question a lot. Inside this blog, I am going to share my thoughts on self-publishing.

Here's what we know…  with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the majority of businesses around the world are suffering.

However, there is one market that continues to expand at an ever-rapid pace – Amazon book publishing.

In a competitive market, the question remains as to whether or not Kindle publishing is an opportunity worth pursuing.

Is Kindle publishing a profitable business model?

Well, it depends. Your success with an Amazon book publishing business depends on two things – you and your goals. Before you dive into this business model, I encourage you to take a step back and assess what your goals are.

If you are someone who loves to write, Kindle publishing is a great opportunity for you to pursue. Writing books is a powerful way to share your message with the world.

The benefit of publishing books on Amazon is that you get to leverage Amazon's platform. Self-publishing is a 26 million dollar industry, which has made it a very popular way for people to make money online. The demand is there.

Is Kindle publishing the best way to become financially free?

The short answer is no. The challenge with making a lot of money publishing books on Amazon is that you are selling low-ticket products. A Kindle eBook sells for anywhere between $2.99-$9.99, while a paperback book sells for up to $20.

To make over $100,000 per year, you would need to sell A LOT of books. For this reason alone, it's not easy to scale your business to 6-7 figures. I don't know many self-publishers who have been able to accomplish that.

If you have more money to invest, I encourage you to upgrade to more scaleable business models, like doing affiliate marketing, dropshipping, or selling physical products on Amazon.

Are you looking to gain experience but don't have a lot of money to invest?

If this is you, Kindle publishing is an excellent opportunity! It is a newbie-friendly and fairly inexpensive business model. There aren't a lot of business models that you can start for less than $1,000.

Furthermore, it doesn't take a lot of time to write a book, and it can be available for purchase on Amazon's platform within 24 hours from the time you hit publish. Even better, the skills that you learn through being a self-publisher will benefit you if you decide to pursue another business model.

Are you looking to generate leads for your business?

Inside my course, Mastering Book Publishing, I teach people how to use their Amazon books to generate leads and build their email lists. This opens up a lot more doors for you to make money on the backend.

For example, in the Internet marketing community, it's not uncommon to see a “free plus shipping” offer. This is when people give a product away to customers for free, and only charge them for shipping costs.

If they capture a lead, they can make more money on the backend through an upsell, an affiliate offer, or a physical product.

A book can also be used as a way to build credibility and authority in your niche. A lot of people use their book as a business card and give it away for free to people. A book can be a great tool for building relationships with people.

Publishing a book is not enough. For people to know that your book exists, you have to market it. This is why I created a course called Mastering Book Marketing, which teaches you my step-by-step system for how to market and sell more books on Amazon.

Is Kindle publishing best for YOU?

If you believe in it, then do it! The Amazon opportunity is great, but it's not for everybody. People have different goals and desires.

If you're still not sure which online business model is best suited for you, I encourage you to take my free 60-second business quiz that will help put you in the right direction.

Whichever business model you decide to pursue, commit to going all-in and trust that you have what it takes to succeed.

Self-publishing has become the new norm.

More and more people have been making the transition from shopping at traditional book stores to online stores. This has positioned Amazon as the go-to platform for all of their buying needs. It's fair to say that Amazon has rewritten the book industry, asserting an unparalleled customer base for the e-books, paperbacks, and audiobooks it publishes. Amazon has millions of customers on their platform.

On top of that, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced people around the world to quarantine and slow down, which has resulted in people buying and reading more books. There are countless self-publishers who have been able to quit their jobs and build successful book publishing businesses.

In my opinion, there has never been a better time to start an Amazon book publishing business and take advantage of the opportunities that Amazon provides. Here is my step-by-step tutorial on how to self publish a book on Amazon. Let's dive in!

1. Create a Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) Account

Kindle Direct Publishing is Amazon's self-publishing platform. It's free to sign up. All you need is an Amazon account. If you already have a personal Amazon account, I would recommend setting up a separate one for business and self-publishing purposes. Keep in mind that you need a different email address to do so.

You can earn up to a 70% royalty with every book you publish on Amazon. Once you upload your book on Amazon's platform, your book will be live, worldwide, and ready for purchase within 24-48 hours. It's a fairly easy and simple process. Amazon has some great tools for marketing your book so I suggest you browse their platform to learn more about what they have to offer.

Publishing a Kindle book is easier to publish than a paperback version. With a Kindle book, all you need is the book file, the specific format that is required, and a cover. With a paperback version, you will need a back cover and a spine. You can get this designed, inexpensively, by hiring a graphic designer via Fiverr.com.

2. Create Your Book Title

You want your book title to be catchy so that it grabs people's attention. When they see and hear your book title you want them to want to click on the Amazon listing to learn more. I recommend using Amazon Search as a way to optimize your book for different keywords.

This will help rank your book higher for those keywords and attract more potential customers. In terms of the author's name, you can use your name or a pseudonym. It's totally up to you. You can also add contributors to your book title. If you are the publisher and there's a secondary author who has the rights to the book, you can use his/her name.

3. Write Your Book Description

You are given 4,000 characters to write a book description. You don't have to use all of the characters. However, the more space you use, the more it can help with the ranking of your book. The primary purpose of the description is for people to learn more about your book before they buy it.

You can talk about what inspired you to write the book, what people will learn from reading it, and the benefits of buying the book. This will intrigue people to buy. Think of it as a sales pitch. I like to include a call-to-action at the end of any sales copy. This directs people to buy your book.

You want to determine if you own the rights to your book or if its public domain work. If you wrote the book, you own the rights. Conversely, if you decide to hire a ghostwriter to write it for you, make sure that you still own the rights to your book.

4. Choose The Right Keywords

Keywords help people find your book on Amazon Search. I recommend that you use seven keywords that are relevant to your book. Think about what keywords people would search for to find your book on Amazon. For my book, I would type in keywords like morning ritual, morning routine, habits, motivation, etc.

If you choose keywords and your book ranks for those, you can attract more customers to your book. Knowing which keywords to target, based on which ones are high in demand, is important. If you choose keywords that nobody is searching for, people won't be able to find your book.

If you want help doing Amazon keyword research, I highly recommend using the software Kindle Spy. This tool allows you to find the right category to get ranked and helps you identify the best keywords in that category.

5. Select The Right Categories

This is where your book is going to rank and be listed in a variety of different categories on Amazon. You can rank as the best seller in each of the different categories.

Some categories are easier to rank for than others are. If you want to rank in more than one category, I recommend that you research your competitors' keywords and choose categories that are lower in competition, Again, Kindle Spy is a great tool to do this.

6. Upload Your Manuscript To KDP

Review Amazon's content guidelines to make sure that your book is compatible with what KDP requires. Decide whether or not you want to go with digital rights management (DRM). This means that you will allow people to unauthorize the distribution of your book. I usually don't want to go this route but it's your choice.

In terms of the manuscript, Amazon accepts a doc.x, ePub, or KPF file. Choose which format you want to use to upload your book. KDP can help you format your book on its platform. However, I would recommend someone to help you with this via Fiverr.com.

Your book must look good on a Kindle e-reader device. Once you've uploaded your manuscript, you want to preview it to make sure that there are no errors or mistakes. That can lead to negative reviews.

7. Create Your Book Cover

For your book cover, you need a JPG or a PNG file. Again, you can find someone on Fiverr.com to design this for you. Another platform I recommend is 99 Designs. This platform allows you to put on a contest and have designers from all over the world compete to create a design for your book cover. It's a little more expensive but you get a lot of quality options.

Your cover is really important. People judge books by their cover. It is the first thing that people see when they are scrolling through book options. If it stands out, they will be inspired to click on it. If you want to turn your Kindle or paperback book into an audiobook that can be published on Amazon, Audible, and iTunes, I highly recommend using ACX.com.

When it comes to the writing of your book, if you decide that you want to hire a ghostwriter, I recommend going to Upwork.com. It's one of my go-to places to find editors, proof-readers, and editors to help build my business.

8. Decide To Enroll in KDP Select or Distribute Your Book Elsewhere

KDP Select is a program that you can enroll your book in with Amazon. This means that your book becomes exclusive on Amazon. In other words, it can't be sold anywhere else. This is a contract that you have to agree to for 90 days and can extend thereafter. In doing so, you get certain benefits through Amazon.

For example, you can get more royalties, do a free promotion, or do a Kindle countdown deal. If you plan to distribute your book on other platforms, you can't use this feature. However, if you're only going to stick with Amazon, I recommend enrolling in KDP Select.

9. Price Your Book

There are two different pricing structures for a Kindle book. There is a 35% royalty, meaning that your book has to be sold within a certain price range, from .99 cents to $200. However, if you want the 70% royalty, Amazon incentivizes you to sell it for $2.99 to $9.99. They've determined that this is how they want to price books on their platform.

10. Create A Book Marketing Plan

Before you launch your book, it is imperative that you have a marketing plan in place. Just because you write an amazing book doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to sell on Amazon. If you are interested in learning more about book marketing, I have a program called Mastering Book Marketing. Inside this program, I provide you with cutting-edge marketing tactics and techniques that will allow you to sell more of your books on Amazon and build your online business over the long term.

How would your life change if you built a $10,000 per month Amazon book publishing business?

I'm going to show you how you can build an Amazon business from scratch, even if you're not a writer or have never sold anything online.

With the current state of the world, more and more people have been forced to shop online. This has made Amazon the go-to place for everyone’s buying needs.

Over a 3 month period during which time large parts of the US were quarantined due to COVID-19, Amazon sold more than $50 billion in products.

There is no better time to build an Amazon book publishing business. If you want my step-by-step system for how you can create a $10,00 per month business, keep reading…

This page contains affiliate links. If you purchase a product through one of them, I will receive a commission (at no additional cost to you). I only ever endorse products that I have personally used and benefitted from personally. Thank you for your support!

I've been selling books on Amazon for over 9 years now.

I have been able to build a 7-figure Amazon book publishing business and have gone on to help thousands of people do the same. Imagine creating a business that allows you to make money while you sleep. A business that can help you quit your 9 to 5 job and create financial the freedom that you've always desired. That's what building an Amazon book publishing business can give you.

I wrote and published a book last year called, 67 Morning Ritual Habits For Your Body, Mind, and Spirit. The Kindle eBook version sells for $2.99 and I get a 70% royalty from it. I also have a paperback version of my book that sells for $10 and an audiobook version.

Amazon allows me to publish all three versions of my book on three different platforms. In turn, I make more money from that one book. If I decided to, I could publish many different books in one niche. If each book made me $1,000 per month, I could publish ten books, which would be $10,000 per month. Make sense?

Conversely, I could build a backend. Building a backend allows you to make a lot more money and sell higher ticket products.  Acquiring a customer for the first time is challenging because he/she doesn't yet know who you are or what your product is all about. However, once they've bought once from you and enjoyed what you have to offer, it will be easier for you to sell them on your next product. This is how you build long-term relationships with your customers.

Watch the video above where I walk you through a visual diagram that talks in-depth about strategies that you can adopt to create a $10,000 per month Amazon book publishing business!

I want to break this process down for you so that you understand how it works. If your goal is to make $10,000 per month, you have to know what you need to do to accomplish that. If you want to publish a book on Amazon you first need to identify what niche you want to publish your book in.

In my case, I chose a book in the self-development space that focused on morning rituals. However, I've published over 100 books in many different niches, some of which I wrote myself while others I hired writers for. I started with self-development because I had a passion for it. I've been improving my life since I was 17 years old. The first book that I ever published was a dating eBook for men.

I used to struggle a lot with social anxiety and confidence issues when it came to interacting with women. It was painful, but I did the inner work, took what I learned from my experiences, and packaged that into a book. As I was learning self-development, I soon realized that I could publish many books on many different topics, based on the research that I did on Amazon.

Let me give you an example to show you how selling a book on Amazon works.

Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) incentivizes you to publish a Kindle book for $2.99-$9.99 and they will pay you a 70% royalty for that. If you charge outside of that range, you will only get a 35% royalty.

Let's say that you sell 100 copies of a Kindle book that is priced at $2.99, which results in $207 per month in royalties. Similarly, let's say that you sell the same book as a paperback version which you price at $12.99. You sell 100 copies, which gives you $564 in royalties per month. Finally, you sell 100 copies of an audiobook version, priced at $6.95, which gives you $208 in royalties per month.

This means that you would make a total of $1,000 per month from three different versions of one book. You have the option of rinsing and repeating the same process by publishing a second book. I'm not saying that one book will make you that much money. That may be over-ambitious for you. However, it is possible. It all depends on what you want to accomplish in your Amazon book publishing business.

The question is, “Once you publish your book on Amazon, how do you market it?”

On Amazon, you can market your book in one of two ways – via Amazon search or by using Amazon ads. This is the approach that most people take. It's a great place to start. However, you can scale your business if you go outside of Amazon. How much your book is going to make through Amazon search and ads will be based on how big the market is.

This is why you want to think about how you can get traffic from outside of Amazon.

One way of doing this is by building a blog, similar to what I did with my brand, Project Life Mastery. This is what gives you a competitive advantage. I have used my books to build my blog and visa versa. Amazon wants you to promote your book to other places on the Internet to create more exposure to your book. This is what will help them acquire more customers and sales on their platform that they wouldn't normally get had you not promoted elsewhere.

In turn, they will reward you by bringing more traffic to your book. If you're not a fan of blogging, you could start a podcast or a YouTube channel. Even better, you could go on a media tour! This is a great way of leveraging yourself to promote your book. This is one of many strategies that you can use to promote your book outside of Amazon.

However, I want to show you the easier way to make $10,000 per month and build a sustainable Amazon book publishing business. The challenge with publishing books on Amazon is that you're dependent on Amazon. If Amazon makes a change, your income could be gone. I don't want you to just make $10,000 per month for 1-3 months. Rather, I want you to make this kind of money for as long as you want. This is what a lot of people might not teach you.

Building the backend is how you scale up your business.

Once you acquire a customer, you want to build a long-term relationship with him/her. In my book, I say, “If you enjoyed this book, I would like to give you a gift. I have an additional free cheatsheet that will go more in-depth on this topic. Click this link and check it out! All you need to do is put in your name and email to receive it.”

I would then send someone to an opt-in page where they would give me their name/email. By doing this, not only am I giving more value, but I'm also acquiring a lead and building my email list. Over some time, I can build and nurture relationships with people.

Once people opt-in, I send them an email with a link to my bonus cheatsheet. Inside this email, I can also mention and link to one of my courses that can help them get to where they want to go on a deeper level. People usually don't buy right away, which is why it's important to build relationships with people through emails. You can automate this entire email process using AWeber or ClickFunnels.

When it comes to publishing books on Amazon, the first thing you need to do is set up a free KDP account with Amazon.

Like I said above, you can publish three versions of your book – as a Kindle, a paperback, and an audiobook. If you want to turn your Kindle or paperback book into an audiobook that can be published on Amazon, Audible, and iTunes, I highly recommend using ACX.com. This is a great way to get more reach with your book.

When it comes to designing your book cover, check out Fiverr.com where you will find a lot of graphic designers who can do the work for you fairly inexpensively. When it comes to writing your book, if you don't want to write it yourself you can hire a freelance writer to do it for you via Upwork.com. Lastly, when it comes to researching which niches and markets are making the most money on Amazon, I recommend getting the software, Kindle Spy. This is a great way to leverage your success as an Amazon publisher.

Are you ready to create a $10,000 per month Amazon book publishing business?

I view a successful business as one that has many different streams of income. Building this type of business is what will allow you to achieve the financial freedom that you desire. This won't happen overnight. However, if you stick with it and are committed to building something sustainable, there is no limit to how successful you can be.

Kindle publishing is still profitable in 2022.

I've been publishing books on Amazon for over 9 years. Over the years I've seen how Amazon has changed and evolved. I've had a lot of success on Amazon. I've created courses and programs that have helped tens of thousands of people make money publishing on Amazon.

I know what is working on Amazon right now and what will continue to work in the future. My goal is to help you build a sustainable Amazon business that lasts for years to come. Nine years ago I was trying to figure out how to make money online. Amazon really appealed to me. It made a lot of sense because it's the biggest online retailer in the world.

Who wouldn't want to be in alignment with a company like that?

Also, people love to buy and shop on Amazon. An Amazon publishing business is recession-proof. Regardless of what happens to the economy, people will continue to read books. On top of that, Amazon books are low-ticket products. People will always be able to afford to buy them.

Publishing on Amazon continues to be one of the best opportunities to get started making money online. I say that because it's a newbie-friendly business. Literally, anyone can do it. If you want to create a solid side income, publishing books is a great option. It also opens up the door to other business models.

A book is a front-end offer.

Every time you publish a book you want to have a marketing strategy in mind. If your customers receive value from your books, they will want to know how else you can help them. Your book is only one part of your business. The goal should be to funnel people into other parts of your business, which in turn, will make you more money.

Let's talk about the steps involved to make money publishing on Amazon in 2021.

Step 1: Identify Your Niche

The first step is to determine which niche you should publish your book on in Amazon. The biggest mistake that people make is that they write books based on what they are interested in, instead of figuring out where the demand is. They end up writing and publishing a book in a niche that has zero demand.

This is why I recommend that people do research and identify what people are searching for on Amazon, and then tailor their book to meet that demand. Go to Amazon and browse the various categories to see which books are selling. Ask yourself, “Are people already buying books on the topic that I'm interested in?”

Answering this question will help you determine the size of the market and how much money you can make. You don't want to spend time writing a book that doesn't sell.

Step 2: Create Your Title

Your title has to be enticing. It has to evoke emotion in people to the point where they want to buy your book. If you write a non-fiction book, you want it to provide a benefit to your readers. Examples of benefits that people are searching for online are things like: how to overcome procrastination, how to set goals, or how to manage your time.

The reason why people buy non-fiction books is they believe the book will help them solve a problem. Hence, your job is to help people solve problems at a profit. If you can effectively communicate a benefit, people will be more inclined to buy from you.

Fiction books are a different market altogether. People are buying these books for entertainment. They want to be transported to a different world. Regardless of the kind of book that you publish, strive to create a winning title. Research your competition in the niche that you choose, see what they are doing, and then figure out how you can make your book stand out.

Step 3: Create Your Cover

Your cover is even more important than your title. It is the first thing that people see when they are browsing on Amazon. Similar to YouTube, the first thing that you see is a thumbnail. It's a graphic that gets people's attention. That is what inspires people to watch a video in the first place.

Your book cover has to hook someone. The great thing about a cover is that you can get someone to create it for you relatively inexpensively. If you go to Fiverr.com you can hire a graphic designer to create a cover for you for as low as $5-10.

One of the reasons why I love book publishing is that it's fairly inexpensive compared to other business models. If you want to get started making money online and you don't have a lot of money to invest, publishing on Amazon is a great option.

I suggest that you hire three graphic designers. Give each person a design idea and see which one you like best. The more options, the better. Alternatively, you can test your different book covers on Amazon and see which one converts better.

Step 4: Write Your Book

The great thing about publishing on Amazon is that you don't have to be a professional writer. I've published hundreds of books on Amazon. I can write and I don't mind doing so, but it's not my core skillset. You can write your own books, but the real money in building an Amazon publishing business comes down to working smart, not hard. You want to work on your business, not in your business.

If you want to scale your business, I encourage you to work with other authors or hire ghostwriters to write books for you. Depending on the length of your book, they will give you a price and you will pay them for that service.

What holds a lot of publishers back from writing is that they have a perfectionistic mentality. If you can relate, it's important that you know that nothing is ever perfect. In fact, the way that you perfect something is to put it out there, get feedback from people, and then improve the book over time.

Step 5: Publish Your Book

Amazon has a platform called, Kindle Direct Publishing. When you sign up for free, you can submit your book. I encourage you to publish a book as both a Kindle and a paperback version. A lot of people only publish Kindle books. In my opinion, this is a big mistake. You are leaving a lot of money on the table if you do this.

Once you have the title, cover and the content of your book, all you have to do is format your book into a different version. Kindle Direct Publishing has a formatting tool inside their platform that can help you get your book formatted properly.

Doing so will increase your reach and the amount of money that you can make from one book. I've published a lot of books that didn't make a lot of money on Kindle but that did really well on paperback.

Your book can be made available in every Amazon marketplace. Typically, a Kindle book sells for less than $10. Amazon will pay you a royalty on every sale. You can charge more money with a paperback book because it has a higher perceived value.

However, there is some expense involved with a paperback book because it's a print-on-demand service. Regardless of what platform you publish your book on, your book will be available for purchase on Amazon within 24 hours.

Step 6: Launch Your Book

A lot of people fail to create a marketing strategy for their book. Instead, they just hope for the best and then wonder why their book doesn't sell. What would happen if Apple came out with the newest iPhone but they didn't build any anticipation around it?

They wouldn't have a successful launch. The same thing goes with a book. You need to come up with a game plan to set yourself and your book up for success. I suggest having your book available for presale.

Get the word out to people early on about when your book will be launched. This is a great way to build up a list of people who want to buy it. Ask people if they will leave you a review. This will give you traction early on. Amazon loves this. In turn, Amazon will give you a boost on their platform because you will be driving a lot of sales to them.

Amazon has some great marketing tools for book publishers. They allow you to do a free promotion for Kindle books. That's very valuable for a few days.

Even though you're not making sales from that, you are getting downloads. These downloads will boost your book and possibly some reviews. Amazon also allows you to offer a limited time discount called a Kindle Countdown Deal on your books.

Step 7: Market Your Book

If you want your book to sell, you need to market and promote it. Today, Amazon has become more competitive. The two ways that publishers market and sell their books on Amazon are through Amazon search or to run Amazon ads. The problem with these two methods is that every other publisher is doing the exact same thing.

Hence, it's hard to stand out. Amazon has provided an opportunity for you to publish, for free, on their platform. They are doing this because they're hoping that you will promote and market your books. In turn, this will funnel more people back to their platform, which will give them more customers.

That's how Amazon makes their money. If you support Amazon, they will rank your books higher and recommend them to other people. I encourage you to learn marketing strategies and skills outside of Amazon. Maybe this means building a blog. If you think about it, people who read books enjoy reading. Those are the same people who read blogs.

This is a great way to get more sales to your Amazon books. This is one of the many marketing strategies that will give you a competitive advantage. Your goal should be to build a business that isn't solely dependent on Amazon. This is the long-term vision and mindset that you want to adopt.

This is how to make money publishing on Amazon in 2022.

If you're a newbie to the online business world, publishing on Amazon is a great business model to get started with. It is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to make money online. Are you ready to self-publish a book on Amazon and build a successful publishing business?

Book publishing has become a booming industry.

I got started publishing books on Amazon over nine years ago. During that time, I was exploring different opportunities to make money online. One thing that really attracted me to publishing books on Amazon was the platform itself. Amazon is the biggest online retailer in the world.

Each month more than 197 million people around the world get on their devices and visit Amazon.com. Needless to say, the opportunity to sell on Amazon is better than ever because Amazon is bigger than ever. Imagine being able to tap into the hundreds of millions of customers that Amazon has!

If you don't have any previous experience selling online, book publishing is a great starting point. The ease and simplicity of this business model are incomparable to other models. Not only that, but it's relatively inexpensive to publish books on Amazon.

If you're looking to build a solid side hustle, this is the business model to take advantage of. If you want to be strategic, you can go one step further and use your books to build a successful brand. That's what I did with my brand, Project Life Mastery.

Book publishing is a recession-proof business model. No matter how bad the economy gets people will always want to buy and read books, simply because they are low-ticket products.

The Coronavirus has forced people around the world to self-quarantine. People are reading more books and consuming more knowledge than ever before because they have more free time on their hands.

As of late, Amazon sales have skyrocketed. The global Coronavirus pandemic has forced 250,000 US stores to close, clearing the way for Amazon’s dominance. This is why I believe that book publishing is one of the biggest opportunities that currently exist for people to make money online.

Keep in mind that book publishing is not a get-rich-quick business model.

It requires time, hard work, and creativity. More importantly, it requires that you learn core marketing skills. It's not enough to just write a book and publish it on Amazon. If you want your book to be seen online, you have to market it effectively. This is what my new course, Mastering Book Publishing will help you accomplish.

Mastering Book Publishing is replacing my old course, K Money Mastery which has helped tens of thousands of people from all over the world make money online. When it comes to creating new course content, I've committed to raising my standards. A lot of energy, effort, and attention went into making sure that my new course is the best that it could be.

Inside my course, you will learn how to become a master publisher and marketer. I will teach you how you can work with professional writers to write books for you so that you can focus on the marketing aspect of your business… and guess what? I have created a new and improved version of K Money Mastery which is called, Mastering Book Publishing!

Are you writing a book for the first time? If so, there are 5 things that you must give up if you want to be a successful writer.

When it comes to writing a book, you need to have both desire and belief. You could really want to be a successful writer, but if you don't believe that you can, then you are setting yourself up for failure.

Self-publishing has changed the game. Nearly anyone who wants to write a book can publish and sell it. However, that doesn't mean that you can put a poorly written book online and expect that it is going to do well.

According to K-Lytics, 75,000 new books are added to the Kindle store every month. This proves that self-publishing is here to stay, but it also means that there is a lot of competition. In order to stay at the top, you need to give your readers what they want.

Are you ready to learn what it takes in order to become a successful writer?

Watch the video below where I talk about how to build a 6-figure book publishing business:

If you are writing a book for the first time, congrats!

Writing isn't for the faint of heart. For most people, it feels like such an overwhelming task that they never even attempt to start. If you are an aspiring writer or are currently in the writing process, then you know how challenging it can be to stay focused while trying to finish a book and get it published.

I believe that every entrepreneur should write a book. Why? Because it's a great way to increase your visibility and credibility in your industry. Not only that, but did you know that you can create passive income by writing and publishing a book? That is what Amazon's Kindle publishing system enables people to do.

Writing books and publishing them on Kindle is one of my favorite ways to create a steady stream of passive income. So much so that I have been able to create a 6-figure per year income from it. If you think that it's too late to get into the Kindle game, think again. This year alone, consumer e-books alone are projected to generate nearly 20 billion U.S. dollars in revenue.

Oftentimes, the reason why people fail to follow through with their book writing dream is that they don't know what they need to stop doing in order to become a successful writer.

If you are writing a book for the first time, and you have a desire to make a living with your words, there are 5 things that you must give up. These are things that I wish someone had told me before I started my writing journey. Sometimes we just need to hear some stone-cold truth in order to get out of our own way.

1. Your Fear of Marketing

Book marketing is a daunting task for a lot of writers, especially those that are writing their first book. They may have no idea where to even begin, especially if they are unfamiliar with what marketing is. I totally get it. You just want to write. Isn't that enough!? Unfortunately, it's not.

If you decide to self-publish your book, don't expect that you are going to spend the majority of your time writing. Rather, you are going to have to become a master marketer. If you merely want to create great stories about topics that only you care about, then maybe you need to re-think the self-publishing route.

You may have written a best-selling book, but if nobody can find it, how do you expect to sell it? The build it and they will come mentality doesn't fly when it comes to selling books.  In the words of Heather Hart, “If writing and publishing a book is like giving birth to a child, then book marketing is like rearing it.”

If you want to become a successful writer, you need to find people who want to read your content and get your writing on platforms where they can read it. In today's digital world, promoting oneself has become commonplace. Don't fear marketing. It's your tool for success.

2. Your “Get Rich Quick” Mentality

It frustrates me when people ask me how they can get rich quick. However, I can't judge them because I used to adopt this way of thinking. Of course you want to get rich quick. Who doesn't? The slow and difficult way is frustrating, but it doesn't have to be.

Let's be honest. Writing a book is not a good get rich quick” business model. Money isn't going to flow into your bank account overnight. If you are looking to get rich quick, you may want to re-think writing as a profession. People have crazy expectations that, if they self-publish a book, people will rush to buy it and they won't have to do any work.

Yes, there are some wild success stories of people who have made millions writing and selling books online. However, we forget about all of the hard work that it took for them to get to where they are today. If you want to be successful, you need to think long-term. Short-term tricks and gimmicks will only get you so far.

Don't throw in the towel when you don’t see results fast enough. If you take consistent action towards building a writing business, I promise that you will succeed. Don't ask yourself, “How can I get rich quick.” Instead, ask yourself, “How can I build a sustainable business that will add massive value to my readers?”

It may take longer to achieve, but the rewards will be worth it. Why? Because it feels good to do something that takes a lot of effort and time. Seth Godin said it best – “People really want to believe that effort is a myth…. I think we’ve been tricked by the veneer of lucky people on the top of the heap. We see the folks who manage to skate by, or who get so much more than we think they deserve, and it’s easy to forget that these guys are the exceptions… For everyone else, effort is directly related to success.”

3. Your Excuses

A lot of people have a dream of writing a book, but they never end up starting. For some, it comes down to negative self-talk, while others just can't get motivated. They fall into a trap of procrastination and find a million and one reasons why they can't.

Making an excuse for why you can't do something is just a bad habit. Like any habit, it can be changed. However, you need to start by figuring out where your resistance is coming from and why.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our own writing process that we are unable to separate ourselves from it and take an objective approach. So much so that we don't even know what is or isn't working for us. This is when it's a good time to reach out for help so that you can get an outsider's perspective.

At the end of the day, it comes down to being disciplined. If you want something really bad, you need to work for it. You don't have to give up all of your time and energy to write a book. I've written the majority of my books in 24 hours!

Set a realistic deadline for yourself and take action and write something, every single day. In doing so, you will feel a sense of achievement and it will motivate you to keep moving forward to finish your book.

4. Your Desire To Be Perfect

If you are a perfectionist when it comes to writing, you may be thinking, “It's about being efficient and detail-oriented. That's what makes a great writer.”

Wrong.

Unfortunately, being a perfectionist doesn't serve people well when it comes to writing books. If nothing is ever good enough, then how do you ever expect to publish something? Deadlines end up falling by the wayside and it only leaves you feeling unsatisfied and frustrated.

The reality is that your first book may not the best, but you will get better because you will learn from it. When it comes to our own writing, we will always find glitches, even where there aren't any. I used to struggle with perfectionism in my writing, but I’ve learned that sometimes good enough has to be good enough.

Even when your book isn't perfect, hit publish. If you want to become a great writer, you must be open to putting out content that isn’t perfect. Take it from Margaret Atwood, “If I waited for perfection… I would never write a word.”

5. Your Indifference To Reading

I'm a firm believer that the best writers are readers. I love to read and learn. It is a habit that I have fallen in love with. I read 300 words from a book every single day, as part of my morning ritual. Reading has not only made me a more knowledgeable person, but it has also allowed me to calm my mind and separate myself from the barrage of tasks and responsibilities that come with running an online business.

Research shows that 85% of successful people read two or more self-improvement or educational books per month. Do you? It's never too late to start reading. If you didn't like reading when you were younger, commit to doing it now.

When it comes to writing, everything you learn as a reader you can use as a writer. Someone else's words can open your mind to new and exciting ideas or concepts for your book. More importantly, reading will accelerate your learning. In the words of Stephen King, “If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.”

If you are writing a book for the first time I encourage you to give up these bad habits.

Writing a book is a momentous pursuit, but if you do it the right way, not only can it provide you with a steady passive income stream, but it can also help you build your brand. The world is waiting to hear your story. Stop thinking about it so much and just start writing!

I have created a new and improved version of K Money Mastery which is called, Mastering Book Publishing!

How to make money from Kindle publishing, that's what I'm here to show you how to do.

From personal experience, I believe that Kindle publishing on Amazon is one of the easiest and most effective ways to make money online. People always ask me if it's still possible to make money with Kindle publishing in 2022. The answer is yes!

Amazon is the top online retailer globally with $213 billion in revenue. Imagine being able to tap into the hundreds of millions of customers that visit Amazon every day.

If you are a newbie to the online business world, Kindle publishing is a great platform to start from. It doesn’t require a lot of time or financial investment, it’s got a fast learning curve, and it’s not as complex, in comparison to a lot of other online business models.

Are you ready to learn how to make money by leveraging the power of Amazon?

2021 is your year to make money online.

A Kindle publishing business isn't a ‘get rich quick' scheme. If you want to build a successful online business, you need to adopt a long-term mindset. If your only motivation in becoming a self-published author is to make money fast, I would suggest that you hold onto your day job for the time being.

Building an Amazon publishing business takes hard work, time, and patience. You need to know the right strategy, but once you have it, it can become a transformational income stream for you. This is how to make money online.

My journey with Kindle publishing started 6-7 years ago. I had dabbled with Internet marketing before then, and had made some money here and there, but nothing that was sustainable. It wasn't until I got into Kindle publishing that I had my big break. It was the first time that I had ever made $100,000 in a year, on autopilot. Nice, right?

Initially, when I was building my Kindle publishing business I was utilizing a lot of tactics that only provided me with short-term solutions. To this day, I still make a lot of money from the books that I published years ago. Why? Because of the mindset and the strategies that I implemented.

If you are going to invest your time, energy, and money into anything, you want to make sure that you are learning strategies that will allow you to build a sustainable online business.

I a firm believer that complexity is the enemy of execution. My goal is to simplify the Kindle publishing process for you and teach you how to make money online, with easy-to-understand steps.

1. Find A Niche Or Market

Before you publish your book on Amazon, you need to first find the right niche or market to publish your book in. Oftentimes, people have amazing ideas for a book that they want to write about, but when they publish it on Amazon, they wonder why it doesn't sell. I hate to break it to you, but this is not how to make money on Amazon.

2. Do Keyword Research

You need to do research and identify what people are searching for on Amazon – what’s hot, what’s selling, what’s making money – and then tailor your book to meet that demand. As a publisher, it's not your job to reinvent the wheel or create a new market from scratch. Your book has to meet the needs and demands of the market. You then need to optimize your book for certain keywords, so that when someone searches for it, they will be able to find it.

Step back and ask yourself, “How am I going to differentiate myself from the competition?” You can do this by having a higher quality book with cutting-edge research, a book cover and title that stand out, more reviews, a bonus audio or video, or the implementation of marketing strategies outside of Amazon. When it comes to selling your books on Amazon, all of these things will give you a huge competitive advantage.

3. Create A Winning Title and Cover

In the Kindle publishing world, the old adage, “You can't judge a book by its cover” does not apply. If you want to sell more books, you need to have an eye-catching book title and cover. When someone sees your book, they need to think, “I've got to have that!” It needs to capture the attention of your audience and make them want to know what is inside.

You can hire someone on Fiverr to design a great cover for you for $5-10. I always order from a few different sellers on Fiverr because I like to test different covers and see how they sell on Amazon. This will help me determine if and how the covers are impacting my sales.

4. Create Quality Content

You need to create relevant and high-quality content that leaves your audience feeling like they have benefited from your knowledge. Ideally, you want all of your books to yield positive reviews on Amazon, but keep in mind that writing books is a process and that you will get better, with time. In the words of Robert Allen, “There is no failure. Only feedback.”

Keep in mind that you don't have to write your own books. You can also hire a ghostwriter to do the writing for you. By doing this, you are able to leverage yourself on a greater scale.

Taking this approach allows you to operate more as a publishing company, responsible for the marketing and promotion of your books. I've also had books created for me, based on transcripts from video, blog, and audio content that I’ve published over the years.

5. Set up A Kindle Direct Publishing Account

When you have done all of this, you are ready to publish your book! You will set up a Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) account, upload your book file, and set the price that you want to sell it at.

The great thing about this business is that the process of publishing your book is relatively quick. Once you hit publish, your book will be available for sale within 24-48 hours.

Once your book has been published on Amazon and someone buys it, Amazon will pay you a 70% royalty on that. You can set it up so that the money gets deposited directly into your bank account, which is paid out to you every 30-90 days.

6. Market And Promote Your Book

It’s not enough to just have a book on Amazon. It’s YOUR job to promote, market, and sell it. This is what a lot of people forget to do. They think that Amazon is going to do everything for them, but publishing your book on Amazon is just the beginning.

If you want to become a successful Kindle publisher, you need to master marketing, because this is a skill that will allow you to make a significant amount of money online. There are a lot of books on Amazon that are great, but nobody knows about them or buys them because they haven't been marketed properly.

The beauty of marketing is that it’s a skill that is transferable to any other online business that you decide to start, and that is why Kindle publishing is a great business model. It can help you learn how to make money with affiliate marketing, physical products, informational products, coaching/consulting services, etc.

When it comes to marketing your book, there are many ways that you can do it. The first place that you will want to start is on Amazon because that is where your book is published.

There are two ways that you can market your book on Amazon. The first strategy is doing an Amazon search, which involves identifying the right keywords that you can rank your product for.

The second strategy is pay per click advertising, where you pay Amazon and have your book show up on other people's book listings. This costs money, but it's a great way to get more traffic and sales to your Amazon listing. The more sales that you get, the better that your book is going to rank in the search engines.

A lot of people are already implementing the above two marketing strategies, so if you want to create a highly profitable and sustainable Kindle business, you need to market outside of Amazon. This is what Amazon wants you to do!

They want you to go out into the world and promote their company. If you do it effectively, they will reward you for it. It's all about diversifying your streams of traffic, which will give you a huge competitive advantage in the long run.

When it comes to marketing outside of Amazon, Facebook is great! You can create a fan page, a Facebook group, or run Facebook ads in the niche that you are in. If you decide to run ads, you want to build an email list first. This is what will allow you to email the people who decide to opt-in to your page so that you can build a relationship and sell your books to them.

When you create epic content that adds value to people, you will be seen as credible and trustworthy, which in turn will make it easier for you to sell your products.

You can also leverage other social media platforms, like Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, or a blog. A blog is a great way to promote your book. If you are creating and publishing content, and it can be found on the search engines, then people will want to receive more from you, making them more inclined to buy your book when it's ready for purchase.

If you are looking for how to make money online, Kindle publishing is the way to go!

When it comes to Kindle publishing, if you want to scale up and build a sustainable business, you need to look at the bigger picture, which is building a brand. A brand allows you to be an affiliate, to sell your own products, to start a physical product business selling on Amazon, and to coach/consult.

This is how I make money online, and how I have been able to build my online business, Project Life Mastery to where it is today.

If you want to learn more about how you can make money online with Kindle publishing, check out my Mastering Book Publishing course, and if you still aren’t 100% sure which online business model you want to pursue, I encourage you to check out my free course, 7 Online Business Models.

Start your online business today! Why wait? Well, if you are like most people, it may be because you are overwhelmed with the number of business models out there for you to choose from.

You can't start your online business without a model. The good news is that all of the business models work. It's just a matter of determining which one is right for you, and the avenue by which you want to add value.

A clear business model will determine the sustainability of your business, so it's important that you choose it wisely. Anthony Bourdain said it best – “Luck is not a business model.” Pick the right model and start your online business the right way.

Are you ready to start your online business?

There are many online business models that have the potential to generate a lot of profit, but I want to highlight a few of them that I believe are more scalable than others:

1. Amazon FBA

Amazon is the #1 online retailer in the world. The beauty of selling physical products on Amazon FBA is that you tap into the massive amount of traffic that they have access to. It's fair to say that selling on Amazon is a great passive income model.

I am living proof that this is true. I have been able to build a 6-figure per year e-commerce business, Life Mastery Nutrition, through selling on Amazon.

I wouldn't have been able to achieve this kind of success without the Amazing Selling Machine. If you want to learn a step-by-step system for selling physical products on Amazon, then I recommend that you go through a training course like this.

2. Kindle Publishing

With the explosion of Amazon, Kindle publishing has become a huge business. Virtually anyone can get into the self-publishing game and a make a nice passive income stream every month. All you need to publish an eBook on Amazon is a KDP account (Kindle Direct Publishing), which is free.

A lot of people ask me, “Is Kindle publishing still a viable online business model?” My answer is yes! It remains one of the easiest ways that I've come across to get started making money online.

In fact, more people are profiting and making money from publishing from my Mastering Book Publishing course than ever before. If you have the desire to create 6 figures of passive income, I encourage you to take advantage of this business model.

I believe that affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways to make money online, simply because you don't have to do any of the work in creating a product or service. The only thing that you need to do is send traffic to someone else's website, and then you get paid a commission every time someone buys something.

I am so passionate about this online business model that I created my own training program called, Affiliate Marketing Mastery, which teaches people how to start and build a 7-figure affiliate marketing business from scratch. In my opinion, this is one of the best tickets to achieve financial freedom.

The online business world has something to offer everyone. You can achieve success with any of these online business models, however, at the end of the day, you need to choose one that aligns most with your interests and skill set.

Selling books on Amazon has never been so easy. While it may take traditional publishers a year or more to get their writing converted into print, in today's digital age, you can publish an eBook online, in 24 hours or less.

Otherwise referred to as “the Kindle effect,” the rise of the $1 billion dollar self-publishing industry has become a global phenomenon, proving that it is here to stay. However, just because there is potential to make money selling books on Amazon, that doesn't mean that it's a walk in the park.

There are a lot of variables that need to be taken into consideration in order to achieve success online. More importantly, the challenge still remains – how do you find an audience who will actually read your book?

Selling books on Amazon isn't for the faint of heart.

When it comes to selling books on Amazon, a lot of people fall into the dabbler mentality, thinking that it's an easy thing to do. This is the wrong mindset to have.

Selling books on Amazon is a business. It's not just about writing something and then publishing it online. That's only the first step. It takes hard work, commitment, time, patience, and a winning strategy. If you want to outshine your competition, you need to go above and beyond.

It all starts with creating a roadmap for success. Here are 5 tips to follow if you want to become a best-selling superstar.

1. Study Best-Selling Authors In Your Niche

I am a firm believer that if you want to be the best, you need to learn from the best. A great way to figure out how to create a best-selling eBook is to study the people who have already been successful in your niche of interest.

Take an online Kindle course, buy books, watch YouTube videos, or read articles. Do anything that involves investing in yourself, so that you are armed with the knowledge that will allow you to accelerate your success.

Similarly, I also suggest that you research other books in your niche that you will be competing with. Don't copy what they have done. Rather, analyze their strategy, read their reviews, and take notes. Get curious and ask yourself, “How can I stand out and make my book better than those of my competitors?”

Don't forget that Kindle publishing is a business, and like any business, the goal is to research your target market, provide massive value, and create a product that provides a solution to their problems.

2. Don't Write What Feels Good To You

When it comes to writing eBooks, don't write what feels good to you. Just because you want to write about cooking, doesn't necessarily mean that this is a popular niche. If you take this approach, you will waste your time and money.

This is why it's so important to do your market research and find out what is selling. What are people in your niche of interest looking for? What are their pain points and greatest desires?

In order to get a better idea of which niches are going to be the most profitable, I suggest that you check out Amazon's Best Sellers list. Or, if you wanted to spend some money, you could invest in the Kindle Spy software, which identifies the best-selling niches for you.

3. Quality, Not Quantity

In today's busy world, people don't have the same attention span that they used to. Readers want and expect cutting-edge content that provides them with tangible solutions to their problems. In the beginning stages, it's not about how many books you can sell. Rather, it's about positioning yourself as a credible writer.

Take the time to write a winning piece of content because it will pay off in the long run. Benjamin Franklin said it best, “Either write something worth reading, or do something worth writing.”

4. Become A Master At Marketing

Just because you published a book on Amazon, doesn't necessarily mean that anyone is going to see it. According to Forbes, there are between 600,000 and 1,000,000 books that are published every year. With competition like this, you need to find a way to stand out from the crowd.

Unfortunately, a lot of authors don't start marketing until after their book has been published, but this is too late. How do you expect to sell any eBooks if you don't have an audience?

Writing your book is only the first step in the process. I suggest that you create a marketing plan in advance, which may include giving away one of your books for free, using Facebook ads to promote your book, or start a blog and create pre-launch landing pages so that you can build up a solid email list.

5. Design A Killer eBook Cover

The old adage, “Don't judge a book by its cover” doesn't apply when it comes to publishing books on Amazon. Don't be stingy when designing your eBook cover. If it doesn't look professional, your book sales will take a direct hit.

The reality is that people are naturally drawn to visual imagery. This is supported by research by 3M that shows that visuals are processed 60,000 times faster than text. Make sure that your eBook cover represents what your potential customers can expect to find inside of your book.

Keep in mind that your end goal is to stand out from the crowd of millions of other authors that are also selling books on Amazon. I suggest that you invest some money and find a great designer on Fiverr that can help you create a killer eBook cover.

In closing, selling books on Amazon has never been so easy, but it's not for the faint of heart. The people who become massively successful are those that have created a winning selling strategy.

Kindle publishing is a profitable business model that, if executed correctly, has the potential to provide you with a passive income stream that can change your life forever. Not only that but becoming a successful author can dramatically increase your credibility, establishing you as a thought leader in your niche of interest.

I am living proof that this is true. I have created a thriving Kindle publishing business that makes me 6-figures of passive income, and so can you. Are you ready to become an eBook superstar? There is no better time than now.
