Recently I interviewed my good friend Matt Clark. He is the co-founder of Amazing.com and the co-creator of the Amazing Selling Machine (ASM).

ASM is an 8-week training program that teaches you how to build an Amazon FBA private-labeled online business.

Back in 2014, my fiancée, Tatiana, and I joined ASM. Since going through the training, we have both gone on to build a 7-figure Amazon business.

If you want to learn how to create financial freedom from an Amazon FBA expert, listen to Matt Clark! This is an interview that you don't want to miss.

Selling on Amazon is a life-changing business opportunity.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Amazon still managed to experience massive success in 2020. They made $108.5 billion in net sales in the first quarter of 2021. That’s a 44 percent increase from the $75.5 billion reported in the first quarter of last year.

Amazon is one of the fastest-growing industries and its growth is only beginning. There is no better time to leverage the power of Amazon. Matt Clark knows how to make money on Amazon. By the age of 26, he had already built three multi-million dollar companies.

In our interview, he talks about the steps that he took to build his eCommerce brand to $2M per month in 2 years. Also, he shares details about the new and improved ASM training program called ASM Evolution. Let's dive in!

How did you start your eCommerce business and what kind of results have you achieved from it?

I sell a healthy brand of coffee called LifeBoost. I've been doing eCommerce since 2009. Over the years, I've sold a lot of different types of products. Eventually, I started teaching people how to build 7-figure eCommerce businesses.

That's where Amazing.com originated from. That business grew really fast. A lot of lives were changed from the Amazing Selling Machine. As a result, I didn't have time to start my own eCommerce business.

Finally, when I got some more free time I decided to pursue it. I love drinking coffee, and I'm also really health conscious. I had the desire to develop an organic and healthy coffee option that I could sell. At the time, a good friend of mine had a coffee business.

I tried his product and I loved it.

However, he wasn't driving a lot of new sales to his business. That being said, the people who were buying his product kept buying from him every single month. I told him that I wanted to help him grow his business.

We agreed that if I was able to get the business to a certain point, I would own a certain percentage of the company. At the beginning of 2019, we started working together. At the beginning of 2019, we were making $ 17,000 per month in sales.

By the end of 2019, we were making $600,000 per month. As of last month, we made $2.1 million in sales on Shopify alone.

For people who are looking to build an eCommerce business from scratch, would you suggest that they sell on Amazon, Shopify, or both?

I would pick one platform to start with. My business partner and I have been doing eCommerce selling for a combined total of 20+ years. We had to pick a battle. At the time, my partner was only selling on Shopify.

Once we started getting consistent results on Shopify (18 months), we transitioned over to Amazon.

If you're just starting, I recommend starting on Amazon. You get access to hundreds of millions of their customers. Amazon takes care of so much in your Amazon business. However, I still suggest that you start a brand. When you do that, you can successfully sell on Amazon, Shopify, and your website.

Why do you believe in the power of building a brand?

The kind of approach that a lot of people take when it comes to selling on Amazon is to make short-term money. From the beginning, I adopted the mindset that I wanted to build a business that produced consistent cash flow that could one day be sold.

It never made sense to build something that would only make me short-term money. Our approach has always been to teach people how to build a consistent long-term business. In the eCommerce world, the best way to do that is by building a brand that you own and control. We've proven that this path works.

On June 1st, one of our ASM members sold their brand for millions of dollars.

They did this by following our model and building a brand. I don't think they could have accomplished this goal had they not followed the path of building a long-term brand with high-quality products. An acquirer wants predictability.

Which marketing channels have allowed you to scale to $2M per month?

The main ones that have allowed us to scale have been Facebook and Instagram ads. We spend $400,000-$500,000 per month on ads. It's our main source of new customers. With Amazon, you are targeting keywords. Conversely, on your website, you're doing interruption marketing.

Essentially, someone is scrolling through their feed on Instagram or Facebook. You are trying to grab their attention and convince them to click on your page and buy from you.

Before we marketed our product we had to figure out why people would buy from us. We all had theories. Once we determined which ideas were the best, we designed a landing page and matched that with our ad so that we could test our different ideas.

Once we figured out which idea was performing the best, we tested different headlines or angles within the theme that we chose. That allowed us to figure out how we would convince people to buy. Also, we had to determine what offer would get the most money out of the right kind of people.

Recently, my good friend, Ezra Firestone, shared a really powerful point with me. He believes that no matter how good of a job that you do selling a product on the first go, 75% of your customers are never coming back.

Thus, you've got to make as much money as you can from them the first time that they buy from you.

We had to figure out what would allow us to get a high enough conversation rate and a high enough average order value that would make our product successful. We tested 20-30 different combinations. Once we figured out the main angle, the main headline, and the main offer combination, that's when we were off to the races.

That's been the main way that we've gotten new customers. We back all of that up with great email marketing after people buy. We want to nurture those relationships and reinforce their buying decisions.

Lastly, we also provide a subscription, which is 40% of our sales. Our model is to get people in the door, once. The right kind of person will love our product and want to buy from us again and again.

We are constantly adding new products to increase revenue. Apart from Facebook and Instagram, recently we've added a lot of other channels, like Amazon, Google Adwords, YouTube, Snapchat, and Pinterest.

Can you share some details about what people can expect from the latest version of Amazing Selling Machine, ASM evolution?

As I expressed earlier, our goal has always been to help people build a long-term business. A lot has changed since the launch of ASM in 2012. The long-term approach has stayed the same, but how you get there has changed.

The reason why we created a sub-name for ASM called ASM Evolution is that we think that is necessary to evolve the Amazon business model. We reached out to our members who have experienced massive success on Amazon.

On those calls, we asked them if they had been adopting different strategies than the ones we taught.

We started to see commonalities. Based on what we learned, we decided to redesign the ASM training program. ASM Evolution is focused on building a tight-knit brand. It's not about selling a lot of cheap or expensive products.

Rather, it's about selling 2-4 tightly-knit products. This version of the program is focused on helping you build a brand from the onset. All of the training is 100% new. We include a lot of cool software.

Also, we've got amazing mentors who are there to help people inside the ASM community. Some of these people have sold millions of dollars on Amazon. They are answering peoples' questions 24/7.

What can people expect to learn if they attend your upcoming free webinar? Also, can you tell us about the crazy prize that you're giving away?

At the training, we are going to provide you with our best information. We will talk about how to find the best products to sell on Amazon, and how to market and rank those products successfully.

Also, we are going to show you how you can build the kind of business that massive companies who have raised billions of dollars in capital are looking to deploy.

We will answer any questions that you may have about ASM Evolution.

Furthermore, we are trying to work on getting a few special guest speakers to talk at the training so stay tuned for that info!

We have a $20,000 prize that we will randomly give to one person JUST for showing up on the webinar training. As part of that prize money, we will also give you everything that you possibly need to build your Amazon business successfully.

What advice would you give to someone who is brand new to online business and wants to get started selling on Amazon?

First, dive in and learn as fast as possible. Don't be somebody who decides to do everything on their own. I recommend learning from other peoples' experiences, as well as your own. That is how you will achieve results faster.

When I first started my business I had a little bit of savings. Thus, I was able to take the full leap into my business, even though I had no idea what I was doing. However, if you don't have this luxury, that is OK.

There are a lot of Amazon success stories of people who didn't start with a lot of money.

It took them longer to achieve the success that they desired, but they did it. If that's your situation, do it! There is no way to get the results that you want without putting in the time and effort to learn and take action.

Secondly, don't stress too much about the outcome. Have a general idea of how much you want to make, but don't get attached to that number. Show up every day and do the work. Keep learning and working hard.

Finally, get around other people who are either more successful than you or as motivated as you. If you surround yourself with entrepreneurial minds who want to be successful, you'll become that person as well!

This is how Matt Clark built his eCommerce brand to $2M per month in revenue in 2 years.

Is Amazon FBA too saturated?

This is a question that I get asked all the time. My answer is always the same – no! As of the last reported period, Amazon has 310 million active customers. It's fair to say that more people are buying on Amazon than ever before. This means that there a lot of opportunities for you to successfully build an Amazon business.

That being said, selling on Amazon has become very competitive. This has caused a lot of potential sellers to assume that the Amazon marketplace is too saturated. If you start an Amazon business with a fear mindset, you are setting yourself up to fail. It comes down to learning how to use Amazon's growth to your advantage so that you never have to worry about saturation again.

Amazon is a fantastic platform from which you can launch your products, but you've got to think bigger. One of the primary ways that people sell their products is through ranking on Amazon's search engine as well as by running Amazon ads.

These are great strategies for selling. However, the challenge is that all of your competitors will be doing the exact same thing. This is why I always look at different ways that I can market my products outside of Amazon. This could be in the form of Yahoo, YouTube, Facebook or Instagram.

These are the most popular websites online.

People are constantly consuming content. Statistics show that 85% of adults consume content on multiple devices at the same time. For this reason, I believe that becoming a content creator is one of the most important skills that you can master.

You want to create content related to your Amazon product. More importantly, you need to research the overall niche that your product is in. For example, if you are selling a spatula, your product is not just in the spatula niche. It may also be in the kitchenware or cooking niche.

Taking a broader perspective gives you more options to create content. Keep in mind that doing this will require that you have an in-depth understanding of your niche. Furthermore, it will require that you identify what people's pain points are and the type of content that they are already consuming.

From there, you want to identify the most popular platform that your demographic visits. By doing this you can attract followers and traffic from those platforms that you can then funnel into your product on Amazon.

This is how you sell on Amazon.

This is the approach that I have taken with my Amazon business. It's all about building a brand and relationships with people by way of high-quality content. If you can successfully do this, people won't ever feel the need to compare your product to competitors.

Why? Because you will have already pre-sold them. Therein lies the power of content marketing. If you follow the strategy that I outlined above, you will never have to worry about saturation again. Are you ready to start selling on Amazon the right way?

If you are reading this, chances are that you have the desire to become a multi-millionaire.

With the rise of Internet multi-millionaires, starting an online business has become the new rage, but it takes a special kind of person to create a multi-million dollar online business. If you believed every article that was written about how to become a multi-millionaire, you would think that everyone and their dog was doing it. This is far from true.

Learning how to build a multi-million dollar online business doesn't happen overnight. It takes grit, hard work, and passion. If you have a get rich quick mentality, you will be doomed for failure. Like every entrepreneurial success story, there is a process that you need to go through in order to create your ultimate dream lifestyle.

You may be wondering, “How do I achieve this kind of success?” This is where Matt Clark comes in. If you want to be the best, you need to learn from the best.

Here is a sneak peek of my interview with Matt, where I pick his brain on how he became a multi-millionaire.

Can you share a little bit about the company that you co-founded with Jason Katzenback?

Our company is called Amazing.com, and we help people start and grow businesses. We have a heavy focus on Amazon. It’s our bread and butter. We help people with our program, Amazing Selling Machine, which walks people through everything, from what Amazon marketplace platform to sell on, how to pick a product, how to find suppliers, how to scale a business, and how to do marketing. Basically everything that you would ever need, including a large community and top software to help build your business. That is what we are best known for.

We also have a membership over at Amazing.com that gives you an a la carte selection of different trainings that you can go through in order to scale an Amazon business, whether you want to learn how to increase conversion rates or run PPC ads. Our whole mission as a company is to give people freedom, whether that's financial freedom, freedom to live wherever you want, or the freedom to work for yourself.

The best avenue for us to accomplish that mission is through Amazon's business model. We know nothing better than this right now. We have members that are making as much as $30 million dollars per year with businesses that they built starting with our company. It's been incredibly fulfilling for us. That is why we are here and what keeps us going.

How did you guys start Amazing.com?

Ever since I was in high school I knew that I wanted to start and run my own online businesses. I never really wanted to work for someone. I went to college and finance was one of my majors. The plan was to go out in the world and work for an investment bank for a few years, and then start my own fund after that. I was 7 months into my investment banking job and I soon realized that it sucked.

I didn't want to be there for one day longer, so I left the job and I started to expedite my plan to start my own online business. I had no idea what I was going to start, but I ended up fumbling my way into selling different high-end health supplements online that, in today’s world, have become a lot more mainstream. I had no idea how to sell online, but through the help of a guy that I had met, who was an employee at an agency, it was enough to get my e-commerce store up and running.

I learned everything that I could. I went to all of the conferences, I read every book, article and blog, and I took seminars on Google Adwords. This knowledge allowed me to get my e-commerce business to go from $700 in the first month to doing $2 million a year during the second year of operation. I was growing the thing like crazy, but at the time, I had about $100,000 on American express cards at the age of 22. I had no idea how I was going to pay it off.

Sure, I had a couple of million dollars in revenue, but profit was not good at all. It was pretty much non-existent because I was buying so many ads and trying to get inventory in, that I didn't know how to run an online business. I got out of this situation by focusing on the conversion side. I knew how to buy ads and convert them, but I didn't know how to get those people to buy more stuff afterwards, that didn't cost me any money.

That's when I dug into email marketing and copywriting and that's what really turned things around for me. I was able to get my e-commerce business profitable and ended up being able to sell it. Jason and I met and we decided to form a partnership. I knew a lot about selling on Amazon, just through trial and error, and he was skilled at creating training, courses and software that could help other people take this information and build businesses for themselves.

We created a course called, “Amazon Money Machine”, which ended up becoming the Amazing Selling Machine and the rest is history. We kept growing from there, and soon realized that we were changing a lot of lives with our program. This is what motivated us to keep going. Since then, we've really gone all in, with regards to fulfilling our mission of helping more people change their lives and become multi-millionaires.

You started by selling a course, but you have now built a successful brand. What has the transition been like for you over the last few years?

There have been a lot of learning lessons. I've learned so much about the nature of business, how to grow a business, and who I am along this journey. Things have gone really well, and at times, we've tried to grow our staff very quickly and push ourselves into 52 different directions. We've learned a lot in the process. Fortunately, we've maintained good value.

We value our customers. At the end of the day, we know that we don't benefit at all as a company unless our customers are getting incredible value. Our customers love, respect and trust us. Through all of the dumb mistakes that we've made, that is what has kept us going, and why we have been able to become multi-millionaires and create a thriving online business.

What would you say are some of the biggest challenges and failures that you've faced along your entrepreneurial journey, and how were you able to overcome them?

The biggest mistakes that a lot of entrepreneurs make when they are first getting off the ground is trying to go too wide, instead of deep. I don't know why we are wired this way, but as soon as something works, we want to do 52 different things, in 52 different directions. It happens to a lot of people who sell on Amazon, and it's happened to me as well. This is not the direction that you want to take if you have the desire to become a multi-millionaire.

Let's say that you get one product working on Amazon, and it makes $10,000 a month. You then start thinking to yourself, “I want to make $100,000 a month, which means that I now need to sell 10 products.” Not true. A much smarter approach that will keep you sane, not mess up your operations, and likely make your online business more profitable is to say, “How can I get this one product to do even better than it is already doing?” This is the mindset that I encourage people to have when striving to become a multi-millionaire.

When you do this, you don't have to manage multiple suppliers, train employees on your products, or manage two different listings. We've made this mistake before. Because we knew how to get people selling on Amazon, we decided to teach people everything that there is to know about how to build a multi-million dollar online business – everything from accounting, to social media, to management, to Amazon e-commerce apps. You name it, we wanted to teach it! This was NOT a good idea because we didn't have this kind of expertise in all of those other areas.

We went way too wide and we didn't do as well as we wanted to, so we had to really narrow our focus to what we knew best. That is the point at which our business really grew. That was a huge learning lesson for us. You need to have the discipline to stay focused, knowing that, at the end of the day, you will have a much better business and a lot more stability in the long-term.

I used to study success and tried to figure out how it worked, and then at some point a lightbulb went off in my head and I realized that there is only really two things that you need to succeed in business – focus and persistence. As long as you can get those things going, and you keep at it long enough, there is no reason why you can't become a multi-millionaire. A lot of people don't focus or give up too early.

What is your mindset and approach when it comes to failure?

I've never looked at anything that I've done as a failure. I've probably started 20 online businesses that didn't end up working out, but I always perceived those experiences as things that I didn't really like anymore, so I changed my direction. Somebody could look at what I was doing and think to themselves, “No, you are starting these businesses and completely failing at them,” but that was never my mindset. To me, it's more based on iteration.

No matter how much research you do, you don't really know how well something is going to do, unless you put it out there and see what happens. On the other hand, I can hopefully save you a lot of money and heartache by teaching you how to fail, the right way. We've taken so many big risks in our company that we were almost out of business, and that's not a situation that you want to be in or have to be in. Experiment and fail, but learn how to do it smart and on a small scale.

I am a big believer in morning rituals. What does your morning ritual involve?

I've tried a lot of different things. At the end of the day, I always ask myself, “What am I trying to get out of this?” I'm a big believer that your mornings are an important time to condition yourself so that you are able to face whatever crap you need to deal with during the day. It's about building resiliency first thing in the morning.

I go to bed fairly early so I'm up by 5 or 6 am. The first thing that I do is throw on some clothes, go outside and walk. I start to think about what I'm grateful for, before I start thinking about what I want. From there, I start to envision what it is that I want to get out of my day, what I want to bring to my day, and what I'm excited about.

I'm a huge fan of the device, heart math. I use it during my morning ritual in order to see what is going on inside my body. You clip the Inner Balance technology to your ear and it analyzes and displays your heart rhythm, measured by Heart Rate Variability (HRV). It shows you how your emotional states are affecting your nervous system. The app then gives you focus exercises that you can engage in, in order to calm your stress levels.

Then I'll have a cup of coffee, do a workout, and look at my priorities for the day. As part of this process, I will review my weekly, monthly and yearly goals, as well as what I've already planned to do for my day, and then I will dive into work.

Recently, I've tried to divide up busy work from focus work. As a society, I believe that we've lost the ability to focus. If you can set aside time to get meaningful tasks accomplished, then you will have a competitive advantage. Do your best to shut everything off, set a timer and get hyper focused, with zero distractions.

Anyone can become a multi-millionaire, but not everyone will.

Are you up for the challenge? If you have a desire to be a multi-millionaire and be your own boss, travel the world, or create financial freedom, I encourage you to check out Matt Clark & Jason Katzenback's company, Amazing.com.

Their teachings have changed thousands of people's lives, including my own. Now is the time to create the life of your dreams.  Seth Godin said it best, “Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life that you don't need to escape from.”

Here is a snapshot of my Amazon FBA product research interview with Matt:

What are some of the things that people should look out for when they are choosing a product to sell on Amazon?

The first thing is to make sure that you are following a good model. I started off in an e-commerce business, so I was going out there and finding products that I could get access to through a distributor or manufacturer directly, and then I was selling their brand. That is not the model that we recommend.

You are competing against everyone else for the exact same product. You are likely competing against the brand itself, and your margins will be horrible. We recommend that you go out there and create your own brand with basic consumer products.

The second thing that you need to realize is that, when it comes to Amazon, there is a list of categories that are good and a list that is bad. The general idea is that you want to go after products that fit the model. You want to look for basic consumer products – anything in the beauty, product, or fitness niche is great.

I would recommend staying away from anything that is digital, like cell phones or apps, and anything that has a crazy amount of variations to it, like clothing or jewelry, which will add complexity to your business.

Once you have narrowed down your product idea, then you can start looking through a category and ask yourself, “Within this category, what is a good opportunity?” Amazon has something called a Best Sellers Rank, that ranges from 1-1000 for any given category.

The number 1 is the best selling product in a category and then it goes up from there. Ideally, you are looking for products that are less than 5000. You are also looking for a specific price range. For a product to have a good profit margin, but not be so crazy expensive that you can't even get started, we like to see products anywhere between a $20-70 selling price.

That means that your total cost per unit is likely to be anywhere between $2-3, up to $20. This way, you can buy a few hundred units, without losing a crazy amount of money from the onset, and you will still have a good profit margin.

Lastly, you want to look for products that are light and small, and if you can find ones that are less than a pound, that is ideal. If you have something that's large and heavy, it will ramp up shipping costs and storage fees with Amazon. The holy grail of a product is one that sells for $30-40, and that weighs next to nothing.

One of the other things that you want to look at is the number of reviews. They are a good gauge of how hard it is going to be to compete with a product. If you find a product opportunity that meets all of your criteria, but it has 5000 reviews, and you only have 5 reviews, the reality is that people won't end up choosing your product.

What is the typical profit margin that you recommend for someone who is deciding which product that they want to choose?

We recommend a profit margin of 30-40% — which is selling price, minus any shipping and product costs or Amazon FBA fees. If you can do all of that, you are off to a good start. Later on you will probably be able to raise your price, get cheaper inventory, and optimize your shipping and FBA fees, so that it's less expensive. Moreover, you should be able to ramp up that profit margin, hopefully to 50% or more.

When it comes to researching, which Amazon platform do you suggest people start on?

It depends on where you live and what language that you speak. If you live in the U.S. or Canada, you will likely start on Amazon.com U.S. If you live in Europe and you speak English, you will want to start on Amazon.uk.

Germany and Japan are two marketplaces that have gained a lot of popularity as of late. Although the competition isn't as high on these platforms, the sales volume has picked up a lot, so there is opportunity there.

What you don't want to do is pick a low volume Amazon platform, like Amazon Canada or Amazon India, because they haven't grown as much. You need to figure out what your #1 goal is. If it's to build a successful business as quickly as possible, then you don't want to be the first person in a new marketplace.

Rather, go somewhere where the machine is up and running, and where people are already producing sales, which is in the U.S., the UK, Germany, and Japan.

What advice would you give to someone that has dabbled with Amazon FBA product research, but has yet to pull the trigger for fear of diving in and moving forward with the process?

At the end of the day, Amazon product research is incredibly important, but it's not going to matter at all if you never pull the trigger and get something live.

You don't want to rush the product research process, but if you've looked for product opportunities, you’ve created a list, you've contracted suppliers, and got prices and samples, that is the point at which it is time to go for it and make a decision.

You may still have doubts, but you have to put something out there. That is going to help you learn and will give you more confidence. You will be able to see how the full picture works, rather than just be really good at the product research side.

With some Amazon businesses, it is so easy to get a positive ROI when you look at it from the company value standpoint. For example, since my wife started selling on Amazon, her products have been coasting. They produce good sales every day. She doesn't put a lot of time into the business, maybe 1 hour per day at most.

If someone were to buy her Amazon business right now, it would probably be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, and she's probably only spent a total of $12-15,000 in inventory, over the course of 3-4 re-orders of inventory.

If you are getting analysis paralysis, just pick a date and go for it. At the end of the day, you will be so much happier that you did.

I hope Matt Clark's tips have inspired you to start your Amazon FBA product research!

Starting an Amazon FBA business is an exciting journey, but a lot of people avoid taking a leap of faith, for fear that they will fail. Every successful Amazon seller started somewhere, so don't hesitate. Enjoy the process, be an avid learner, and never stop believing in yourself.

How would it feel to create a 6-figure online business selling products on Amazon? Anything is possible. You will never know unless you start somewhere, so dive into your Amazon FBA product research today!

Is Amazon FBA Dead?

In our interview together, Matt Clark addresses this burning question, and shares some top tips for ensuring that you are setting yourself up for success:

You’ve worked with thousands of people to start selling on Amazon. In your opinion, is Amazon FBA dead?

The one thing that you should always look at is how Amazon is doing as a company. Their stock prices and market cap are incredibly high. What matters more is how Amazon is doing in terms of revenue, because if you are selling on Amazon, you are getting a piece of that revenue pie.

Their revenue has been growing like crazy because there is a massive trend in place. When it comes to online purchases, and you look at the statistics, Amazon still only accounts for about 20% of all sales, even though myself and many others feel like we buy 80% of our products online, so the opportunity continues to grow.

More people are buying stuff online and Amazon is there to capture that, so if you are someone who is looking for a place to sell, Amazon is still a fantastic place to do it, and the macro level data proves it to be so.

I also have a lot of anecdotal data from our Amazing Selling Machine members, some of whom are now making $25-35,000 a month. Sure, there’s more competition, but there is still a lot of opportunities, if you know where to look.

Do you see any other online retailers being a threat to Amazon?

We are always on the lookout. We would love for there to be another platform that was a massive threat that you could go sell on, because we know that we can help people figure it out. However, keep in mind that we aren’t Amazon spokespeople.

We could care less if it involves selling on Amazon or selling somewhere else. Amazon is just the best opportunity. It's where everyone wants to buy, where everyone already has a credit card stored, and it's where there is already a lot of buyers, which makes the process so much easier.

If someone wants to get started building an Amazon business, what are some tips that they should know before starting the process?

The model that we've always taught is to not go out there and try to invent a product or opportunity. That's where we've seen people get into a lot of trouble.

If you are creating a brand from scratch, and you don't have anything, then it needs to be a product that people are already buying. That's what we know how to do and what you can capitalize on. It's based on existing demand, rather than a demand that you are trying to create.

How can you differentiate yourself, and stand out from other products that are selling a similar product on Amazon?

At the end of the day, with so many people buying on Amazon, there's a lot of people that may be buying the exact same product, but they all have different needs.

For example, let’s say that you are selling a balancing board. You could have an elite martial artist, whose needs are going to be very different from an 80-year-old person who is trying to do rehab so that they don't fall and hurt themselves.

Those are two completely different needs and products. You could create a whole new product that has some modifications to it. This would involve talking to a supplier about how they could modify the product, which would be easy to do.

Alternatively, you could tailor the marketing, packaging, and instructions to a different market. For example, this could be the balance board for rehab or the balance board for elite performance. There are many different ways that you can narrow in on your market.

I encourage you to start doing research. If you find a product that looks like a great opportunity, read all of the reviews and descriptions, and if that concept makes sense for that market, you will find patterns in there, where people are like, “Yeah, this product is great, but I had this issue.” That is one way to differentiate with an existing opportunity.

Another way is, if you want to go after the same market, but you don't necessarily want to go after a niche within that market, focus on making the product better. Look at what they are doing wrong and make the same exact product, but better – better instructions, packaging, and quality.

Address some of the concerns that people are having, so that you aren't carving out your own niche, but rather you are just creating a product that will be more attractive to people.

I hope my interview with Matt Clark has inspired you to get started building your Amazon business!

In summary, Is Amazon FBA dead? No, it’s still very much alive, and it will continue to grow and expand. If you have been thinking of starting a business and have the desire to create financial freedom, leveraging the power of Amazon is the way to go.

Since starting my Amazon business, my life has changed dramatically. I encourage you to stop sitting on the fence, take massive action, and start building your Amazon business. If not now, when?

Here is a sneak peak of some of our answers to your burning questions:

For those who don't know, can you share with us a little bit about Amazing Selling Machine?

Most training out there is just giving you information. At the end of the day, all that we care about is that you actually build a successful online brand, meaning one that is producing consistent, positive cashflow every single month. In order to make that happen, there are four components of our program.

Component #1 is the foundation, which is an 8-week online web-class, which walks you through knowing virtually nothing about selling on Amazon to being an expert by the time that you finish the training. It may not happen with the first 8 weeks, but by the time you have gone through all of modules, you will gave built a successful business. The beauty of it is that you can watch it whenever you want.

Component #2 is what we call the ASM mentors, which are people that have been successful in their businesses that are in the community, helping members out, every single day, on a one-on-one basis. Component #3 is comprised of the community itself. In my opinion, this is one of the best groups for Amazon sellers out there, because it is comprised of all the people who have been through the same experience, which is ASM.

Component #4 is what we call the private resource vault, which includes a lot of amazing tools and software, and our personal contacts. These resources alone are worth over $10,000.

Who is the ASM for and who is it not for?

This is for people that want to build a solid, long-term online business. That is why we have members who have built and sold their businesses for millions of dollars. We want people to take our program that have a desire to dig in, work hard, stay committed and not give up. This is not for people that are looking to get rich quick. This is a business that takes time to build. At the end of the day, one of the key ingredients of success is being able to push through the challenges that will occur.

For those people who cannot afford your course right now, what would you advise they do?

I think that there are two kinds of people that can be really successful in this business. There are those that have already had success in some other area, so making money isn't an issue. The other people are hungry, and they just really want to make something work, like the success story of the Romanian couple, Peter and Adina. You have to decide how hungry you are. I've been in a situation before where my back was up against the wall. I was building my first business, it was producing a lot of revenue, but my profits were horrible. I had $100,000 worth of credit card debt, and I had to find a way to make it work. It all depends on what your level of motivation is.

What are your thoughts regarding people who say that the Amazon opportunity is too competitive?

Obviously I do not agree and I can share a lot of different points of data to support my argument. Currently, Amazon has the highest market cap in history, this year, Jeff Bezos became the richest man on the planet, and recently, Amazon had their biggest single sales day ever, where sales grew by more than 60%.

All of this is showing you that Amazon is at its prime right now, and I think that it's just getting started. If you compare their year after year growth, it's about 25%, which means that this year they will do $170 billion in sales, whereas last year they did “only” $130 billion in sales. This is massive growth for a company of this size. It's nearly unheard of. It's not unreasonable to think that in the next 3-5 years they will be doing $500 billion, per year in revenue. By you doing nothing else than other using their platform in order to launch products, your business can double over that time period, simply by riding the wave of Amazon.

What are the pitfalls that people need to avoid when starting an online business?

Two mistakes come to mind that Amazon sellers make that are closely related to one another, which are, not picking a product and picking the wrong product. People get hit with analysis paralysis and start spinning their wheels. I recommend that you push through it.

Secondly, when people have an idea in their head, they force the opportunity on Amazon, and it almost always ends in disaster. You need to be rational and strict about making sure that the opportunity meets the criteria. Lastly, some people give up and don't push through when they hit a roadblock, which is impossible to do when you go through our program, because we have live coaching calls, and mentors, who are there to answer all of your questions and concerns.

I hope we were able to answer some of your questions about the ASM course and selling on Amazon. I am a firm believer that the best way to accelerate the learning process is by investing in a high-quality training program, like ASM, that guides you, step-by-step, through the process.

Investing in yourself is one of the smartest investments you will ever make. This is your opportunity to learn from the best and start your online business

Here is a sneak peak of my interview with Peter and Adina. This Romanian power couple makes $100,000 PER MONTH on Amazon:

How did you get started with ASM and what has your journey been like since then?

We started our Amazon business three years ago. We were inspired to do so after we received an email from Robert Kiyosaki, whose email list we are a part of. We didn’t speak any English before starting ASM. We had big dreams and we were only living on one salary at the time. We started to watch Matt and Jason’s videos, but we could only understand a few key words. We immediately knew that this is what we had to do. We learned English and went through the ASM course, using Google translate. We had no money at the time, so we borrowed it from someone so that we could take the course and purchase inventory. We borrowed even more money to come to the Las Vegas event, and then immediately after attending the event, our business started to grow very fast!

Your story is so special because there are people all over the world that may not speak English and wonder if it’s even possible to start an Amazon business. What was the turning point for you? Was it your belief that you could really do this and be successful at it?

We wanted to change our lives and we believed in our dream. Before starting our business, we always wanted to do big things and have an impact in the world. We knew that there was something inside of us. We looked for the opportunities, and when the ASM course appeared, despite the language barrier, we knew that we had to do it in order to fulfill our dreams. When you have this feeling, the barriers no longer exist, and you just jump in and do it.

What kind of success have you had with your Amazon business?

We make 5x more money in our Amazon business than I ever made with my job. I (Peter) had the courage to quit my job and focus on our business, full-time. After making that decision, our Amazon business grew fast. We attended ASM meetings, workshops, and then we grew, 10x more. We now make $100,000/month.

What a life-changing experience. How does it make you feel today, looking back at where you used to be versus where you are now?

It’s fantastic. We have the freedom to do the things we want to do. This business gives you the freedom to do what you love everywhere. You just need an Internet connection. It has changed our lives and we have the feeling that we are living the life that we always wanted. We have time for kids, we travel with our children, and this is amazing for us because we started with nothing. Before, we only had money for surviving, and now we have a beautiful life. At the beginning, we were most concerned about covering our basic needs, but then our business grew bigger and bigger, so much so that now we focus on helping others. We have a group of 80 people in Romania who have now started Amazon businesses, and we help them to change their lives. It’s more like our mission. We don’t do it for money because we have more than we need.

What advice would you give to someone that wants to start an Amazon business, but is in a similar position that you were in when you first started?

The first thing is to know what you want, put it on a vision board, and visualize your dreams. Secondly, attend an ASM event. You can have the best strategy out there, but without mentors and the courage to follow through with it, it won’t work. You need to connect with people who have been successful on Amazon, and then in turn, you will be successful as well. Put yourself in successful environments.

Anything is possible. If we can do it, so can you. It’s just a matter of what you have in your mind. We have been educated to have a poor mindset, but we changed that by educating ourselves and believed in the possibility of financial freedom. If you know what you want in life and believe that you will be successful, then everything will happen for you at the perfect moment. Write down what you want, and the Universe will help make your dream a reality.

This Romanian power couple makes $100,000 PER MONTH on Amazon. What an inspiring story of courage, commitment, and belief. Peter and Adina have proven that anything is possible in life. Are you ready to build a successful Amazon business?

Selling on Amazon can be a lucrative, life-changing business with the right guidance.

Today I want to share how to start selling on Amazon. Do you dream of launching an Amazon business, but don’t know how to get started? I'm here to show you how!

At the Amazing Selling Summit in Las Vegas I had the opportunity to interview Matt Clark, who is the co-founder of Amazing.com and the Amazing Selling Machine.

Matt Clark is the definition of entrepreneurial success. He has built three multi-million dollar companies and now dedicates his work to teaching entrepreneurs how to launch and grow online businesses.

Amazon is now the world's third-largest retailer. The opportunities to make money on Amazon are monumental. Are you ready to learn from Matt Clark how to start selling on Amazon?

Here is a sneak peek of my interview with Matt Clark on how to start selling on Amazon:

Why do you think that Amazon is such an attractive opportunity to people as a way to make money online?

I think it’s an easy concept for people to wrap their heads around. If you tell people, “I’m going to teach you how to go out there, build a business, and sell products that you are familiar with, like cell phone accessories, fitness products, etc.”, they get it.

These are all things that we use; it’s a business model that is easy for people to understand. People that take our course have tried Internet marketing and affiliate marketing, and it hasn’t worked. You don’t need crazy technical skills to start selling on Amazon. At the end of the day, you need to be able to think like a consumer, which is great, because we all possess that skill, because we are all consumers.

How would you address peoples’ fears, related to saturation and competition?

We have member after member who has joined our course in the past year or two that is doing very well. Amazon is getting bigger and bigger. The number of Amazon sellers isn’t growing as fast as the demand on Amazon is growing. We used to teach people a very narrow-focus approach to selling, but Amazon has grown so much that you can go for products that are less competitive, but produce just as many sales as you would have years ago going after the most competitive products. This widens the funnel and the number of products that you can go after. The number of opportunities on Amazon have gotten wider.

What are some of the biggest mistakes that you see people make when starting an Amazon business?

The biggest mistake that people make is trying to get too wide, too fast. When you start launching multiple products, you lose focus. Every new product that you launch, until it’s up and creating consistent sales, i just a cost. Inventory, time, staff, packaging, and marketing are all business expenditures.

Allow yourself to get over that hump and get to the point where one product is producing consistent sales and profit for you. Once this happens, then you can leverage your brand into multiple products.

Another mistake that people make is related to narrowing down the audience. For example, you can sell two different fitness products. They could both be great opportunities, but they are two different markets, so you don’t know who you are talking to. You need to make sure that the product that you launch after your first product really relates to your first product and your audience.

Lastly, not enough people take the time to build a relationship with their audience. If you are constantly staying in touch with people, via email or social media, then launching new products is going to be easier and people will respond better by buying more products from you.

Can you share with us a little bit about the Amazing Selling Machine?

The Amazing Selling Machine (ASM), has produced a lot of success stories. The whole purpose of our program is to get somebody from where ever they are, to building a solid, successful business and brand using our model.

In order to make this happen, we have a very step-by-step approach to our training. You watch a video and then implement those steps. By the time that you have gotten through the eight online modules, you will have built a business. We have the experience and we work our butts off to make sure that the training is always updated, because our goal is to get people actual results, as fast as possible. Amazon is always changing and our model has to do the same.

We don’t stop there. We have a private community for ASM members, comprised of people from over 100 different countries. We have mentors, which are members that have built Amazon businesses that have each made over $1 million on Amazon. They give feedback to other members and provide great answers to every single question that people have.

We also have weekly group coaching calls for people that join ASM, and we do cool events like the Amazing Seller Summit that bring Amazon sellers together to connect and inspire one another. We also have a private resource vault, comprised of a lot of cool software and tools that our members can utilize in their businesses so that you don’t have to go hunt for them online. The vault is valued at over $10,000.

This is how you start selling on Amazon. Matt and his team have graciously put together a free Amazon training series to help you get started. If you have a desire to build a business on Amazon, check it out. I highly recommend that you join ASM. It has changed my life and it can do the same for you!

I would like to share with you how to make money on Amazon in 2019.  I had the pleasure of interviewing Matt Clark, the co-founder of Amazing.com and The Amazing Selling Machine (ASM).  The Amazing Selling Machine is a training program and live event that teaches entrepreneurs how to build real, fast-growth businesses selling physical products by leveraging the power of Amazon.

I interviewed Matt back in 2013, when I was publishing eBooks on Amazon. Since then, Matt has built one of the most popular and successful business-oriented training programs ever created.  He has impacted thousands of peoples' lives, who have now gone on to quit their 9-5 jobs and created the financial freedom they have always dreamed of.

Matt Clark continues to put out a high-quality product, year after year. His consistency and dedication to his customers and his product is amazing.  His work has made a large impact in my life.  Do you want to know how to make money on Amazon in 2019?  If so, there is no better person to learn from than Matt Clark.

How did you get into selling on Amazon and eventually creating your program, The Amazing Selling Machine?

The past four years have flown by. When I was in college, I knew that I wanted to start my own business, but I didn't know what I was going to do.  I worked in the investment banking industry for 7 months, but I soon became miserable. My Dad was running a medical business, so I started to help him with that.

During that time, I found that he was selling some very high-end health products, which back then, were only sold through doctors’ offices.  They were legal, but I found out that these types of products weren’t being sold online.  I wasn’t a programmer, nor was I savvy about selling online. I just dove in and started learning as much as possible.

Back then, if you wanted to sell physical products, it usually only occurred through setting up your own ecommerce website. I learned everything I could about Google Ads, because that was the main source of traffic, and then SEO, and then I started learning about Amazon.  I started selling some of my products on there.  I had six people in the Philippines working for six weeks, 8 hours a day, adding every product from my ecommerce store to Amazon.  I went from selling 10 products to 11,000 products on Amazon.

I started getting orders coming in on Amazon, but when I would send them to the distributor, they kept saying that they were out of stock.  Amazon doesn’t put up with poor customer service, so I had to take all of my products off their site, and started narrowing down how I could make Amazon work for me. Through a chance encounter, I met a guy that private labeled one of my top products.  Soon thereafter, my margins shot up, and that’s when I really started learning how Amazon worked.

Can you tell us a little more about the concept of private labeling?

You can private label any product, but one of the easiest products to private label is a supplement. Let's take the most basic supplement on the planet – Vitamin C. The contents are the same across every supplier. There are a lot of manufacturers that will take the raw capsules and put them in bottles, with their brand name on the outside.

It's a way of saying, “Here is my brand name and my branding” (colors, logos, fonts).  When you put the brand name on the bottle, now you have your own brand of that product. For example, if someone else is selling the same product for $4.99, but you add extra value through better marketing, customer service, guides, reports, etc., you can possibly sell the same product for $15.99. Now, you have better margins because you are playing a different game, by providing the highest value possible, whereas your competitors are providing the lowest cost possible.

How have opportunities on Amazon changed in the last few years?

Since we started teaching ASM, Amazon has doubled in size. If you look at it's growth rate, it’s insane. It grows at 20% a year, and multiple billions of dollars/year. It's doing things that no company in history as every done, especially for physical products.  It’s making buying physical products so simple.  This means the number of opportunities to sell on Amazon has grown exponentially.

Sales on Amazon's international platforms, Germany and Japan in particular, have picked up like crazy. We are so used to buying stuff on Amazon in the U.S. or Canada, we don’t realize that in Europe Amazon is still like it was here five years ago.  One of our customers who took our course was making $40,000 euros last month, and now he’s making $80,000 euros/month, AND he’s only selling in Germany.

If you are into the online marketing world, online retail is still less than 30% of all physical retail, but Amazon’s actual percentage of online retail is getting bigger. The total pie is getting bigger, and Amazon's piece of the pie is increasing. They will soon be doing $500 billion in revenue, without doing anything innovative. It’s just the direction that the company is going.

What I love most about your training is that you teach people how to build a brand that will allow them to have a competitive advantage, long-term. Can you talk a little bit about the importance of building a brand?

When we first started teaching ASM, we advocated for Amazon, but at the end of the day, that mindset and approach isn’t what Amazon wants, and it’s for sure not what customers want.  The reality is that you could be running your business on a beach in Thailand, but a real product will be landing on someone’s door step and they will be experiencing that product in real-time.  The better that experience is, the better your business is going to be, long-term. We recommend that people focus on building a solid brand that people respect and want to buy more from because then everything is simpler.

On a tactical level, say you sell one product on Amazon and it makes you $10,0000/month in profit. Then you want to launch a second product in a different niche. The problem is that you end up managing two brands, two email lists, two social media accounts, etc., so there is no leverage.

If you want to grow your business even more, Amazon will tell you what the next best product is to sell. You can then tap into all of your existing customers on social media, email, etc. and say, “Hey, I’ve got this other product that is great and you should buy it.” Ideally, they go buy your product, leave great reviews, and you can then apply the same marketing cycle to your next product, but make the results even more effective. That is the value of building a brand; it’s about leveraging.

Building a brand isn’t just about selling multiple products under the same name. You should be doing continuous product improvement. There are so many opportunities to make a slightly better product than the ones Amazon creates. It takes a lot of time and money, and it is beyond the scope of what we teach, but there are small things that you can do in order to make your products stand out. The value is that you will have happier customers, less refunds, and you will be able to differentiate yourself from your competitors.

How has your program, ASM, evolved and changed in the last 18 months?

Our philosophy with ASM has always been, “What can we do to get somebody who is starting from scratch, whereever they are, the best results possible with this program?” We strive to stay current, which is why we chose to close our doors for 18 months.

The business is changing on Amazon, so we needed to make sure that we were evolving as well. We didn’t have enough breathing room to fix anything, but when we did, we decided to re-do our entire strategy. I got so busy managing ASM that I had to get rid of my physical products business because I didn’t have the time to devote to it. I started working on a case study business, and analyzed how it worked from the ground up.

I began discovering some new things that are working very effectively.  For example, I've realized the power of Facebook offers. The more you can align with what Amazon wants, and what customers want, the better your business will do.

We have some people that are doing $20-30 million/year on Amazon, and part of that is about playing the long game, so we are incorporating what is working RIGHT NOW, with regards to product selection.  We have a better and more comprehensive strategy with regards to marketing.

Our goal is to teach people how to create multiple successful products in their Amazon businesses, and master things like product selection, package inserts, building an email list from day 1, evaluating samples, doing ads on Amazon, getting traffic outside of Amazon, etc. Our new program is laid out sequentially, and it is better than ever.

We also found out how important a community is to someone’s success. Oftentimes, you are building a business on your own and you don’t have a support system. You need a network that you can tap into for additional strategies and tactics. We know that there will be individual losses that happen in your business that we can’t predict.

We have people who we call, “the mentors”, who have done really well in their businesses after taking our ASM course, and who want to help people in the community. They are there to make sure that if you have any sort of issue in your business, they will help you resolve it. Things like account issues, supplier issues, marketing, product set-up, etc.

Another big thing we are doing with our new course is we are including a private resource vault, which is a collection of resources to speed up your success and remove any extra costs or time in running your business. For example, we provide you with our personal freight forwarder contacts so that things run more smoothly for you, photographer contacts to get great pictures of your products, etc. We also do weekly coaching calls so that you can get the best results possible with our program.

Any words of advice for someone that is thinking about taking a leap of faith and starting an Amazon business?

Like anything else in life, the big thing is taking the first step, and we try to make the first step as easy as possible, which is why we provide free Amazon training to get you started. At the end of the day, it’s about entrepreneurship. You have to take some level of risk. We do our job to minimize as much risk as we can.

A lot of people think that the risky thing is starting the business, but I think it’s about making your entire financial livelihood dependent on someone else. Yes, it can feel safe to have a 9-5 job, but on any day, your boss could wake up, decide on a new business strategy, and let you go, at a drop of a dime.

If you want freedom in your life, you need to learn how to run a business the right way.  Ride on Amazon’s coat tails to get yourself started, because they have built-in traffic, built-in support and an infrastructure. We can still say, with no reservations, that if you are going to build a business an Amazon business is the one to build.

For someone that has zero experience, I see no other opportunity like it. You can build it as big as you want. We have the full spectrum, from people making $5-10,000/month to those that have sold their businesses for $10 million.  It's the same model, it just depends on what you want at the end of the day. It’s the path to freedom and living whatever kind of life that you want, and this is the best opportunity in order to make it your reality.

I’m so grateful that I was able to share with you how to make money on Amazon in 2019. I hope Matt's story motivates you to build a successful Amazon business. Take advantage of his free Amazon training!  It has changed the lives of so many people, including myself.  In the words of Tony Gaskins Jr., “If you don't build your dream, someone will hire you to build theirs.”  Financial freedom is yours for the taking!
