Do you know how to control your thoughts?

Your thoughts create your reality. If those thoughts are disempowering, your life will follow suit.

The moment that you draw a conclusion about yourself, research shows that you're likely to do two things; look for evidence that reinforces your belief and discredit anything that conflicts with it.

If you don't become the master of your mind, your mind will master you.

You are either the master of your mind or a victim of it.

Your mind is not designed to make you happy. Studies of brain activity have demonstrated that the brain responds more actively to negative images than positive or neutral images. This is because your brain acts as a survival mechanism. It evolved to keep you safe and protected from danger. This is why the human race has been able to survive as a species for so long.

However, there comes a point when you have to take responsibility for the creation of your happiness. You cannot rely on anything or anyone to do that for you. Happiness is an inside job. Think of your mind as if it were a sentry on a ship whose job it is to watch out for potential threats.

Just like a sentry, your mind will always warn you about potential risks that could disrupt your zone of comfort. Don't forget that you are the captain of the ship that is your life. If you allow your mind to take the wheel, you will surely get off course. This is why it's so important that you direct your mind towards the destiny that you want to create and experience.

Your higher self is the real you. It embodies the true representation of who you are. However, if you want your actions to align with your higher self, you have to set the intention that you are ready to connect to it.

A great way to cultivate this alignment is through creating a daily meditation practice.

If you're ever tried to meditate and quiet the mental chatter you've probably noticed how difficult it can be. Where people get stuck is that they assume that the goal is to remove thoughts altogether. This is the wrong approach to take. You want to become an active observer of your thoughts, without becoming attached to them.

Like I said above, the mind will always point out what is wrong or missing because it's primary role is to keep you safe from danger. The mind doesn't want to make you successful or happy. This is why you have to be hyper-aware of how the mind works. When it starts creating disempowering stories, you've got to distance yourself and practice the art of non-attachment.

You are not your thoughts. The moment that you accept this reality is the moment that you feel empowered to take control of your life.  You always have a choice of how you respond to your thoughts. You can either succumb to their power, or you can decide to not follow them and create your path.

Our thoughts block us from experiencing the happiness that can be found in the present moment. A lot of people miss out on life because they are so fixated on what is yet to come. Meditation allows you to connect with the here and now and surrender to what is. This is where you find an overflowing abundance of love, joy, and happiness.

Make it a habit to become the master of your mind. If you can commit to a meditation practice for 30 days or more, I promise that you will start to see a massive shift take place in every area of your life.

Are you ready to control your thoughts?

This moment is all that you have. Tomorrow is not a guarantee. Breathe, let go, and trust that life is always happening for you, not to you. When you can adopt this mindset, happiness becomes your birthright.

When you know how to stop negative thoughts, you feel more in control of every area of your life.

Do you ever feel as if something is holding you back in life? Almost as if there is an invisible weight that is getting in your way of success? Welcome to the power of negative thoughts.

Overcoming negative thoughts is one of the biggest challenges that people face. Limiting beliefs are the result of unconscious conditioning that usually manifests themselves at an early age. They are comprised of the assumptions that we make about ourselves, others and how the world should be.

Once you identify what your limiting beliefs are, you can then take charge to replace them with positive ones. Whether or not you believe it, you are in control of your thoughts. Thoughts become things, so you need to be conscious of what you think about on a daily basis.

In the words of Ann Bradford, “Tell the negative committee that meets inside your head to sit down and shut up.” Are you ready to learn how to stop negative thoughts from controlling your life?

In the video below I talk about the power of limiting beliefs and how to stop negative thoughts.

In his book, The Happiness Trap, author Russ Harris says that 80% of everyone's thoughts contain some sort of negative content.

The problem isn't that we have negative thoughts. Rather, it's that we actually believe that our thoughts are true. That's when we get into trouble, and why we need to learn how to stop negative thoughts.

Are your beliefs limiting you from living a happy and fulfilled life? If so, I've got great news. You can change your story at any moment.

We all have negative thoughts that pop into our heads from time to time. Here are some quotes about negative thoughts that highlight how powerful negativity can be.

“Your day was never bad. If you think you had a bad day, check your mindset!” ~ Ernest Agyemang Yeboah

“When we allow negative messages to fester in our head, they take on a life of their own.” ~ Lolly Daskal,

“Believing in negative thoughts is the single greatest obstruction to success.” ~ Charles F. Glassman

Are you ready to stop intrusive thoughts from getting in your way of living up to your full potential?

When you know how to stop negative thoughts, your world becomes brighter.

You don't need to spend one more day allowing negative self-talk to dictate how you feel and move throughout your day.

What if I told you that you could actually stop your negative thoughts before they even happened?

Oftentimes, negative thinking comes with warning signs that take the form of quirky behaviors that we may not even be aware of. Take a moment and think about what happens to your mind and body when your inner critic starts to act up.

Do you start to binge eat? Do you fidget? Do you drink a lot of coffee? Do you get agitated or find that you are unable to concentrate?

Once you have an awareness of these behaviors and are able to identify when these triggers occur, you will know how to stop negative thoughts dead in their tracks and take back control of your day. When you change your thoughts, you change your life.

In the words of Tony Robbins, “Beliefs have the power to create and the power to destroy. Human beings have the awesome ability to take any experience of their lives and create a meaning that disempowers them or one that can literally save their lives.”

Let's explore 6 techniques for how to stop negative thoughts from occupying your mind and controlling your life.

1. Recite Positive Affirmations

Positive affirmations are one of the most effective ways to improve your attitude by replacing a negative, intrusive thought with a more positive one. As part of my morning ritual, every day I recite affirmations out loud to myself, like “I am strong” or “I am in control of my life.”

The beauty of positive affirmations is that, when practiced on a consistent basis, they can counteract the negative thoughts that play out in your mind, thereby enabling you to feel more in control of your life.

You need to ensure that you choose the right affirmations for the intentions that you want to manifest. When practicing affirmations, I suggest that you look in the mirror and recite them out loud. By doing this, it's amazing how fast your mood can improve.

The next time that you feel an anxious thought coming your way, say an affirmation out loud to yourself. This is how to stop negative thoughts right away. By redirecting your thoughts and imprinting positive messages in your mind, over time those negative thoughts will become few and far between.

2. Express Your Negative Thoughts On Paper

Oftentimes we bottle up our emotions inside and don't express how we feel. Journaling is a great way to get your negative thoughts on paper and express how you feel.

Be specific. What emotions are you experiencing that is preventing you from living your best life? What actions do you need to take in order to release this negativity and feel more positive?

You can either keep your journal and reflect upon it, or you can destroy it, as a symbol of your commitment to removing negative thoughts from your mind once and for all.

This idea is supported by a recent Ohio State University study, where a group of people were asked to write down negative thoughts on slips of paper and then later throw the papers in the trash. Another group was asked to do the same thing, except keep the papers with them.

The results? Researchers discovered that throwing out a negative thought literally helps discard the thought mentally.

The point of writing down your negative thoughts on paper is to be a witness to them so that you can analyze why they are are coming up. Once you know why then you will feel empowered to take action.

3. Surround Yourself With Positive People

The reality is that who you spend time with is who you become. Based on this line of thinking, if you hang out with negative people who are drama queens and energy vampires, you will end up modeling their behavior.

Negative energy is draining. It affects every area of our lives. Research has shown that people who cultivate negative energy experience more stress, more sickness and experience less opportunity over the course of their lives than those who choose to live positively.

It is extremely difficult to become positive when the people around you don't operate in a high vibe state. Step back and ask yourself, “Are my friends uplifting me or bringing me down?” If it's the latter, it's time to find new friends.

Cutting out the negative people in your life is one of the most effective ways for how to stop negative thoughts before they even start. Make room for positivity. A solid group of positive friends can inspire you to achieve your goals and dreams.

4. Don't Play The Victim

When negative things happen it can be easy to fall into victim mode. When people play the victim game, they blame others and the world for their problems. When we engage in self-pity all we see are problems. From this place, negativity breeds like wildfire, and there is no hope of finding a silver lining.

Yes, life isn't always fair. Bad things happen, but it's our responsibility to rise above our circumstances and become the CEO of our lives. Do you want to be the victim or the hero of your story?

When you choose to take responsibility for your life, it immediately shifts your mindset from one that is disempowering to one that is empowering. You start looking for the positive, instead of dwelling on the negative.

In the words of Marcus Aurelius, “Reject your sense of injury and the injury itself disappears.”

5. Adopt An Attitude Of Gratitude

Adopting an attitude of gratitude is a great way to silence your inner critic. It forces you to focus on what you already have, instead of dwell on what you don't have.

People that aren't able to appreciate all of the blessings that life brings aren't able to live from a place of abundance. If you feel as if you are constantly lacking something, your attitude will follow suit.

It is impossible to be grateful and negative at the same time. Gratitude is infectious, so once you start appreciating your life, people start to pick up on it, and it creates a beautiful synchronicity in your relationships with others.

I encourage you to practice gratitude on a daily basis. Wake up and think about how lucky you are to be alive, to breathe the fresh air, to walk, to see, to hear. It's the simple things that many of us take for granted that mean the most. Adopting this mindset will make your life more fulfilling and positive.

6. Don't Take Life So Seriously

Our busy lives, long to-do lists, and crazy work schedules can feel all-consuming at times, making us feel like we are on auto-pilot. Don't forget how important it is to relax, laugh, smile, and not take life so seriously.

Becoming more positive means giving yourself a break, celebrating your accomplishments on a regular basis, and letting yourself off the hook when you mess up. Mistakes happen.

Life is so short. Why spend it being serious all the time? Lighten up and enjoy every day to the fullest!

When you can learn how to laugh at yourself and not become so consumed with doing everything the right way, you will become lighter and happier. Work hard, but make sure that you play even harder.

These 6 techniques are the best ways for overcoming automatic negative thoughts.

Negative thinking can impact every effect on our lives if we allow it to. Are you ready to free yourself from negativity? If so, I encourage you to take action and commit to reconditioning your beliefs. Your thoughts create your reality, so focus your attention on the life that you want to create.

Lao Tzu said it best:

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habit.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Keep in mind that none of us are superhuman, which means that there will be moments when our minds will get the best of us. When this happens, acknowledge your inner critic, thank it for stopping by and attempting to get you down, and then walk the other way. This is the best way

You are more than your thoughts. Within you resides a vortex of unlimited possibilities that are just waiting to be shared with the world. It's time to say no to negativity once and for all. Are you ready to put yourself in the driver's seat of your life?

Life is short. Take control of your life RIGHT NOW. The mind is a powerful tool that can be your best friend or your worst enemy.

Research shows that, in one day, we think around 70,000 thoughts. Ask yourself, “Are you in charge of these thoughts, or are they in charge of you?”

Many of us spend a lot of time taking care of our bodies, our businesses, and our relationships. However, when it comes to our minds, we fail to pay attention.

If you want to live a happy and successful life, it is imperative that you master your mindIncredible things happen in your life when you decide to take control of your life.

In the words of Leon Brown, “It begins and ends in your mind. What you give power to, has power over you, if you allow it.”

It’s a lot easier to be mentally strong when life is easy, however the reality is that we grow the most when we are faced with challenges.

Mental strength is more that just motivation; it requires hard work, commitment, and a sheer determination to succeed.

Making the conscious choice to develop the skills that will increase your mental strength is one of the best ways to prepare you for the obstacles that life will throw at you.

Take control of your life RIGHT NOW.

Mentally strong people understand how important it is to develop healthy habits for their mind, body, and soul. They take ownership and responsibility for everything that happens in their lives.

Alternatively, mentally weak people tend to drop into victim mode and blame the world for their problems. They feel sorry for themselves, which is oftentimes a way of meeting their needs for love and attention from others.

You don’t have control over the external world. All that you have control over is your mind and emotions. There are people in this world that are in the exact same circumstance as you, and yet they may have a totally different emotional experience.

How do you react and interpret the events that occur in your life? Do you use challenges as opportunities for growth, or do you run away, letting your emotions get the best of you? If it’s the latter, it’s time to take control of your life RIGHT NOW.

Neuroscience is showing us that the brain is plastic, endowed with a lifelong capacity to reorganize itself with each new experience. You have the power to reprogram your mind, and develop the mental skills that will allow you to master your life.

Here are 3 ways to take control of your life RIGHT NOW:

1. Develop Self-Awareness

If you want to take control of your life RIGHT NOW, you need to, first and foremost, develop self-awareness. Self-awareness is the foundation of personal growth and success.

You cannot be mentally strong without the ability to understand and effectively manage your emotional state. The good news is that emotional intelligence is a flexible skill, and one that you can develop every day, by living more mindfully.

A great exercise for doing this is creating a daily meditation practice. Research shows that if you bring meditation into your daily life, you will not only become more self-aware, but it will also improve your overall health and well-being

 2. Create A Morning Ritual

I am a big believer in the power of morning rituals.  Recent research demonstrates that rituals can have a causal impact on people’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Creating a positive daily routine builds up your mental strength, allowing you to optimize your mind for greatness.

In the words of Tony Schwartz, the CEO of The Energy Project, “Build highly-specific behaviors that you do at precise times over and over again until you don’t have to use energy to get yourself to do it anymore.” Developing healthy habits is one of the most effective ways to create lasting change in your life.

3. Focus On The Positive

You can’t be mentally strong and experience negative emotions at the same time. Having a positive mindset means that you focus on what is already in front of you, instead of dwelling on what is not.

By shifting your perspective to a mindset that focuses on possibilities, you expand your opportunities in life. This is supported by research that shows that positive emotions broaden your sense of possibility and open your mind up to more options.

Take control of your life RIGHT NOW. The sooner that you master your mind, the sooner that you will be free to create the life of your dreams. In the words of Lao Tzu, “If you correct your mind, the rest of your life will fall into place.”

I’m going to share with you 5 things mentally strong people won’t do

It may surprise you, but intelligence only accounts for a small percentage of your achievement. Research is starting to reveal that mental toughness, or “grit”, plays a more important role than anything else for achieving your goals in life.

Mentally strong people are committed to engaging in habits of success, and they are effectively able to manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.

If you catch yourself engaging in these 5 things mentally strong people won’t do, don’t beat yourself up. I have solutions for how you can recognize and replace these unhealthy habits, so that you can become mentally strong.

In the words of John Schiefer, “Mental toughness can take you to the top, and mental weakness straight to the bottom.” Which path will you take?

Mental strength is the foundation for success. Everyone has the ability to build it. Just like a muscle, you need to strengthen it.

Commit to learning how to identify the common pitfalls that you are prone to falling into, so that you can master your mind and become the best version of yourself.

Here are 5 things mentally strong people won’t do.

1. They will not indulge in past failures or mistakes.

Failure is a normal part of life. Whatever goal you are trying to achieve, you will make mistakes and you will fail.

A mentally strong person is able to learn from their mistakes and use them as fuel to propel them forward. They don’t view setbacks as failures, but rather, as opportunities to learn and become more.

Alternatively, a weak person is unable to bounce back from failure. They usually associate a lot of pain to their setbacks and tend to make a big deal out of things that are out of their control.

They are afraid to take a leap of faith and try something new, for fear that they will fail. As a result, they remain in their comfort zone.

If you failed in the past, it’s time to let it go. The past is history.

Your failures will not determine your future unless you allow them to. In the words of Tony Robbins, “The past does not equal the future.”

Shift your mindset and look for the positive in every experience. Don’t dwell on your problems in life. Focus on what you have control over and move on!

2. They will not feel sorry for themselves.

Mentally strong people take ownership and responsibility for their choices in life, whereas weak people create stories and play the role of victim. They blame others’ and external circumstances for their shortcomings in life.

As a result, these people end up holding onto their problems and carry this baggage with them into the future.

Alternatively, mentally strong people recognize that the sooner that you take responsibility for your life, the happier and healthier you become.

Research shows that positive emotions may actually make us healthier.

According to Dr. Laura Kubzansky, a professor of human health and development at Harvard School of Public Health, individuals with great emotional vitality have a much lower risk of developing heart disease, compared to the less emotionally expressive.

Don't be a victim of your circumstances. Pick yourself up, dispel negative emotions, and take responsibility for your life.

As Viktor Frankl famously said, “When we can't change the outcome, we are challenged to change ourselves.”

3. They don't surround themselves with negative people.

Negative people can suck the life out of you, draining your emotional and mental energy. This is why mentally strong people are conscious of who they surround themselves with.

The fact of the matter is, who you spend time with is who you become. Are your friends elevating you or bringing you down? If it’s the latter, it’s time to find new friends.

Weak people allow toxic energy to come into their lives because they are unable to develop healthy boundaries. Study after study shows that negativity has a drastic impact on your physical, mental, and financial well-being.

Alternatively, mentally strong people do not tolerate second class behaviour or negativity. They know when to put the line in the sand, and have the ability to say no when someone is not serving their highest self.

4. Mentally strong people don’t judge themselves or others.

Mentally strong people don't get caught up in drama. They refuse to indulge in the act of speaking less about themselves or others. They look for the good in everything and everybody.

Norman Vincent Peale said it best – “When you expect the best, you release a magnetic force in your mind which by a law of attraction tends to bring the best to you.”

If you are wondering why your life might be challenging right now, look at where you are focusing your thoughts. If you focus on the bad and constantly complain, you WILL attract more of that into your life.

Research from Stanford University has shown that complaining shrinks the hippocampus, an area of the brain that’s critical to problem solving and intelligent thought.

Be conscious of the words that you speak. They have the power to shape your reality.

5. Mentally strong people aren’t lazy.

Mentally strong people are disciplined and committed to everything that they do. They aren’t focused on instant gratification and pleasures. Rather, they are always looking forward and thinking long-term.

Alternatively, weak people struggle with discipline of any kind, because they haven't been able to master their mindset and emotions. They live in their comfort zones and, as a result, fail to grow.

Everything you desire in life is outside of your comfort zone. Studies show that stepping out of your comfort zone leads to greatly increased productivity, creativity, and the ability to cope with unexpected changes.

When there is a challenge or crisis in their lives, mentally strong people rise up and take action.

Being productive and disciplined is a habit, which is why I'm a big fan of morning ritualsWhen you start off the day doing things that are proactive it sets you up for success, which translates into every area of your life.

These are 5 things mentally strong people won’t do. Don’t be a dabbler. Condition your mind every day, develop healthy habits, and commit to mastery.

Want to be happy? Here’s the secret. The pursuit of happiness is a universal desire. We are all striving to have more of it in our lives.

The challenge that many people face is that they try to find happiness, in the form of external circumstances or rewards. This form of happiness is only temporary.

This idea is supported by research that suggests that only 10 percent of our happiness comes from external factors. The rest of the happiness equation is made up of our genetics, the thoughts, and behaviors that we do deliberately, and our attitude.

People fail to realize that happiness comes from within, and the degree to which you experience it is entirely in your control. In the words of Many Hale, “Happiness is an inside job. Don’t assign anyone else that much power over your life.”

Want to be happy? Here’s the secret. It’s easier than you think.

Happiness flows more easily into our lives when we focus on the positive. Here’s where the problem lies. As human beings, we are hard wired to look for the negative.

This is supported by research that shows that the brain reacts more strongly to negative stimuli. Thus, our attitudes are more heavily influenced by bad news, rather than good news.

It’s easy to blame others for our downfalls, but ultimately we are the ones who are responsible for our lives. We can either rise up, take accountability and change what doesn’t feel good, or we can dwell in self-loathing and despair. Which sounds better to you?

Don’t dwell on the negative. Rather, wake up every day and ask yourself, “What is the good in this situation?” Doing so will allow you to train your brain to continually look for the positive and celebrate life to the fullest.

We all need to get out of our heads and into our hearts more. The head is great for processing information and breaking down thoughts, but our hearts are our compass, our seat of truth, and the place that we go to when we are seeking alignment.

A great way to strengthen the heart muscle is through adopting an attitude of gratitude. No matter what our circumstances are in life, we can all be grateful for something. What are you grateful for?

The feeling of happiness is a state that is achieved by way of being present with yourself and being grateful for what you have. If you actively look for the good, you will find it.

Gratitude has been shown to have countless benefits; some of which include health, happiness, satisfaction with life, and the way we relate to others.

Every single day, as part of my morning routine, I take part in a gratitude exercise in my 5-Minute Journal, which inspires me to start my day with a grateful heart. Take 5 minutes every day and write down what it is that you are grateful for. This is a simple, yet powerful exercise.

Do you want to be more happy? Here’s the secret. Let happiness find you by finding your flow and engaging in valued activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. These are the experiences that contribute to the feeling of happiness.

Happiness is a choice that we have to make every day. Create a morning ritual and engage in something every day that makes you happy. When you make this commitment to yourself, these healthy habits will shift your mindset, allowing you to see the good in everything.

Want to be happy? Here’s the secret. Make the decision to be happy NOW! Focus on it, feel it, and live it.

Take it from David Cuschieri, “Every morning I make the biggest decision of my life: To be happy today. All I know is the here and now. What happened yesterday and what may happen tomorrow is either gone or hasn’t happened yet.”

I would like to share with you 3 ways to find your flow in life. Can you remember a moment in your life when you experienced effortless focus while doing something that you loved, that time seemed to fade away?

Positive psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi describes this as flow, a mental state of complete absorption in one's current experience. In this state, you feel productive, happy, and 100% focused on the task at hand.

Oftentimes this experience is short-lived, but imagine how good it would feel if you could harness this feeling whenever your heart desired.

In the words of Csikszentmihalyi himself, “The flow experience has the potential to make life more rich, intense, and meaningful; it is good because it increases the strengths and complexity of the self.”

The question is, “How do you achieve this flow state?” It's a lot easier than you think. Are you ready to learn 3 ways to find your flow in life?

Activities that lead to a flow experience are called autotelic (from Greek: auto=self, telos=goal), because they are intrinsically motivated and gratifying. They also have an end in themselves, rather than in some other end product.

Finding your flow is about losing yourself in tasks that you are passionate about. It allows you to experience enjoyment in the progress of doing something challenging, yet rewarding.

Let's explore 3 ways to find your flow in life:

1. Calm Your Mental Chatter

Mental chatter is the inner noise that plays out in our brains every day. Before you attempt to go into a flow state, ask yourself what is going on in your mind that will prevent you from fully immersing yourself in a task.

A great way to do this is through meditation. Consciously bring attention to your thoughts, without engaging with them. Doing so will allow you to become more aware of the conditions that allow you to enter into a calm state of mind so that the experience of flow occurs naturally.

2. Find Your Zone Of Focus

We all know how discouraging it can feel to sit down, with the intention of immersing ourselves in one task, only to jump onto the next thing.

Research shows that multitasking actually drains the energy reserves of your brain. If you want to find your flow, you need train your mind to become fully immersed in one task.

Turn off all distractions until you've done nothing but the thing you set out to accomplish, for at least 20 minutes. Once you hit that point, you will tap into your flow state.

3. Do Work That You Love

If you aren't passionate about the work that you do, you will have a difficult time losing yourself in it. The best way to find your flow is to find what it is that makes you come alive inside. Invest time and effort into it, and don't settle for less.

Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin Group, said it best: “If you’re into kite-surfing and you want to become an entrepreneur, do it with kite-surfing.”

A growing body of scientific evidence indicates that flow is highly correlated with happiness, both subjective and psychological well-being. When you utilize your talents at work and accomplish challenging goals that are meaningful to you, the outcome is full alignment with your passion and purpose in life.

These are 3 ways to find your flow in life. Knowledge about flow is great, but it's not enough. It will do nothing for you unless you take action and find ways to implement more flow into your life.

Make the effort to find that state of effortless concentration and enjoyment that makes life worth living.

Do you want to learn about the 5 areas of life where persistence pays off? If you want to master all areas of your life, you need to understand the value of persistence. However, it's not enough to know something. Life mastery requires that you actually live it, every day.

If you want to achieve anything in life it will require that you possess a killer combination of sheer willpower, determination, and desire.

When it comes to personal development and dating, I understand how important it is for men to develop the communication and confidence skills that are necessary in order to attract a partner into their lives.

When I was 21 years old I started a dating coaching business, that was designed to help men overcome the confidence challenges that I had faced in my own life.

That is why I wanted to invite Eddy Baller, a men's personal development and dating coach, to write a guest post to talk about 5 areas of life where persistence pays off.

Take it away Eddy!

I want to share with you 5 areas of life where persistence pays off. How many of us have embarked on a new journey to accomplish something big, only to become disillusioned and quit when it didn’t work out?

The human mind is notoriously bad at making time predictions for complicated goals. Even showing up on time seems to be a challenge for some people. “I have time, I’ll just finish a few emails…”

The biggest challenges in life usually require a lot of time, and it’s hard to predict how much time. The key ingredient which separates the cream of the crop is persistence – the raw determination and grit that comes from sticking to your goals.

Here are 5 areas of life where persistence pays off:

1. Dating

Anyone who’s ever gone on dates can attest to the fact that dating isn’t always easy. If you’re interested in finding the love of your life, it means going through a lot of ‘candidates’. Shyness and social anxiety can become a serious handicap for someone when it comes to dating.

Being successful in the dating world requires a number of skills, some of which include, learning how to approach women or men, conversational skills, body language, confidence, assertiveness, boundary setting, and more.

If you want to find a partner that is right for you, it will require persistence, in addition to mastering the above skills.

Action step: Get a dating coach or connect with someone who seems to have their dating life together. Learn how they’ve created an abundant love life and emulate their best practices.

2. Relationships

Dating skills are just the first part of our romantic journeys. Once we’ve found a long-term partner, we need a new tool box to keep the romance alive.

A lot of dating skills still apply; confidence, body language, boundaries to name a few, but now we have to learn how to share our space, grow together, and keep it exciting in the bedroom.

It also requires paying attention to our partner's communication style and learning their habits, so that we can avoid unnecessary clashes. This shows that we really understand them.

Action step: Dedicate at least one night per week as a ‘date night’. It’s too easy to get caught up in the business of life and family. Put aside time for a quality get together so that your bond continues to grow.

3. Business

Building a business is tough. There are a myriad of setbacks that are designed to test your ability to persist, which include lack of know how, lack of resources, not having the right people when you need them, bootstrapping, and more.

For those who stay in the fight, the turning point shows up as a change in focus, experience, and a new direction, which may not have been clear in the beginning stages.

Action step: Invest in business and marketing training. Too many people try winging it and end up quitting when it doesn’t work.

4. Mindset

At the age of 20, I was an extremely negative person and all of my friends were negative too. Every day I played the same record in my head. It was always, “people suck”, “rich people suck”, “everything is expensive”, “the weather is no good”, and on and on.

I became tired of my own attitude and wanted to change. I knew that if I kept hanging out with the same people I wouldn't be able to grow. So I decided to start from scratch and distance myself from my old friends.

I set out to learn better social skills to make friends, meet women, and change my mindset. It took years to make serious progress, but the alternative was unthinkable.

Action step: To create a more positive mindset, work on reframing negative thoughts on a daily basis. Just look for the positive angle to the thought you were in the middle of. Do this daily and soon you will start thinking in a different way.

5. Emotions (EQ)

Emotional intelligence, or EQ, has a huge effect on our social success. It allows us to read other people's feelings, understand ourselves, and communicate effectively. People that have a low EQ have weak connections with others.

On the other hand, people with a strong EQ have healthier friendships, romances, and business relationships. When you learn how to master your emotions, you master your life.

Action step: Start by learning more about your own habits and emotions. How do you react to different situations? What happens to your body language when you’re feeling positive or negative emotions?

I would like to share with you my journey with overcoming shyness and social anxiety. In my early 20’s I was a very shy, insecure person. I spent a lot of time in front of my computer playing video games, because I was too afraid to interact with people. As a result, I didn’t have any friends. Being alone made me feel safe.

Have you ever experienced shyness and social anxiety? If so, you aren’t alone. There is nothing wrong with being shy; it is a common reaction to have when you are exposed to unfamiliar situations or people.

However, those that suffer from extreme bouts of it often experience social anxiety, where they are unable to function in the simplest of social situations, for fear of being negatively judged and evaluated by others. These situations can cause people to experience significant emotional distress. I can relate.

The great news is that overcoming shyness and social anxiety is possible. You don’t need to live in fear anymore. It all starts with overcoming your self-limiting beliefs. Are you ready to take back control of your life?

While it’s true that a lot of instances of shyness and social anxiety arise from real-life situations, those feelings are perpetuated due to a fear of fear itself. Instead of being anxious about the situation itself, a person is now afraid of the uncomfortable feelings that are associated with it.

This creates a negative perpetual cycle, resulting in more worry and anxiety about future events that appear outside of one’s control. If you want to break this cycle, you need to control the negative limiting beliefs that create those feelings of anxiety in the first place. In the words of Robin Sharma, “The fears we don’t face become our limits.”

Shyness and social anxiety don’t define who I am as a person, and it isn’t who you are either. By holding onto that identity, or belief system, you are accepting that definition as fact.

A belief system is literally B.S. If you want to eliminate a limiting belief, you first need to identify what that belief is. For example, if you had an experience where you were made fun of in a social setting, based on this evidence, you may create a belief that you aren’t worthy of connection.

The question remains, “Why does your subconscious mind want to keep your limiting beliefs, even though you consciously know that these beliefs have a negative effect on your life?” Because limiting beliefs keep people in a zone of comfort; they prevent you from doing things that are deemed, ‘unsafe’.

I believe that overcoming shyness and social anxiety starts with getting out of your comfort zone. This is what worked for me. To this day, I am constantly facing my fears head on, and doing things that allow me to grow and evolve.

Step back and think about the negative consequences of not overcoming shyness and social anxiety. Ask yourself, “What is my life going to look like 5 years from now if I continue down this path?” The problem is that a lot of people don’t want to face their greatest fears in life because it doesn’t feel good.

Yes, the feeling of being uncomfortable can be painful at first, but the reward is worth it. Personal transformation isn’t easy, but I promise you that the truth will set you free. When you master your mindset, anything is possible.

If you aren’t living in alignment with your higher self, it’s time to make a change. Your highest self is the version of yourself that you aspire to; one that you view as happy, confident, and powerful.

The next time you are faced with a challenging situation in life that makes you feel anxious, ask yourself, “What would my highest self do?” Your highest self doesn’t make room for self-limiting beliefs, and neither should you.

The way that you change anything in your life is by making a decision. If you aren’t living in alignment with your higher self, it’s time to make a change.

Overcoming shyness and social anxiety is possible. The way that you change anything in your life is by making a decision. Decide to rid yourself of everything that holds you back from being in your power. That is how you master your life.

Making the decision to not allow shyness and social anxiety to run my life opened up my world to infinite possibilities. I finally felt free to become the person that I desired to be, and so can you.

Don’t let labels, like shyness and social anxiety define who you are. Those are self-limiting belief systems that only hold you back in life. Brian Tracy said it best – “You begin to fly when you let go of self-limiting beliefs and allow your mind and aspirations to rise to greater heights.” Believe in yourself and think empowering thoughts.

The Power Of Beliefs https://projectlifemastery.com/power-of-beliefs/ https://projectlifemastery.com/power-of-beliefs/#respond Wed, 05 Jul 2017 14:28:01 +0000 http://projectlifemastery.com/?p=6471 The power of beliefs is far reaching. I would like to talk to you about the power of beliefs. Beliefs are things that we choose to accept as facts. They are based off of our perceptions of life. Your beliefs about who you are shapes your entire life.

Dr. Joseph Murphy, author of the book, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, best reflects the power of beliefs when he said, “The law of your mind is this: You will get a reaction or response from your subconscious mind according to the nature of the thought or idea you hold in your conscious mind.”

Unfortunately limiting beliefs hinder many people’s potential in life. If you don’t believe that you can do something, then you won’t. Not until you commit to shifting your limiting beliefs will you then be able to create the reality that you desire. What you believe to be true becomes true for you.

In the words of Michael Sky, “The real challenge in life is to choose, hold, and operate through intelligent, uplifting, and fully empowering beliefs.” Step back and examine your beliefs. Are they helping you or hindering you?

Do you want to learn how to create empowering beliefs that will lead you to success in life? CLICK HERE to join my Life Mastery Accelerator program!

The power of beliefs is reflected in the fact that YOU have the ability to take any experience in your life and create a meaning that either empowers or disempowers you. Mastering your life requires that you upgrade your thoughts, meaning that you focus on the positive.

Why is this so important? Simple. Your thoughts lead to behaviours, your behaviours lead to habits, and habits are what change your life for the better. Positive thoughts transform into positive beliefs, which can then help turn your dreams into a reality.

There was a time in my life when I struggled with limiting beliefs. It wasn’t until I made the choice to condition my mind to focus on the positive, that I was able to change every area of my life. People who lead fulfilled and successful lives are those that purposefully choose beliefs that support and empower them.

If your beliefs are not allowing you to create the life that you want, it is time to make a shift and adopt a more positive belief system. The power of choice is a gift that many of us take for granted. Only you have the power to choose how you feel. If you aren’t happy with your life, change it.

The power of beliefs is far reaching. You take control of your life when you choose empowering beliefs that support the vision and purpose for your life.  Douglas Noel Adams said it best, “If you don't change your belief, your life will be like this forever. Is that goods news?” If not, it's time to make a change.
