Choosing the right category to promote products is key to affiliate marketing success. One of the best categories is the online business category.

If someone has an online business, there are certain software and tools that they will need to pay for every month to build their business. As an affiliate, you can make commissions on these types of products for as long as people are customers of those products. Hence why the online business category is the best source for recurring commissions.

1. ClickFunnels

This is a software that allows people to build their funnels online. This is what I use in my online business for all of my funnels. I would not be able to run my business without it. When you pay for a ClickFunnels subscription, you get access to a lot of great Internet marketing training on the backend of their platform.

ClickFunnel pays a 40% monthly recurring commission. Their minimum plan is $97 per month. This means that you can make $40 per month in recurring commissions over the long-term. ClickFunnels has a lot of great front-end products to choose from in their affiliate network as well.

A powerful way to promote ClickFunnels is to create content that shows people how to use the product, in the form of a tutorial or a review. As an example, check out the FREE ClickFunnels training that I created.

2. Aweber

This is an email service provider that helps people do their email marketing for their online business. Aweber allows you to collect emails, send broadcasts to your email list, and set up auto-responder emails.

I've been using this service for over 8 years now. As an affiliate, you earn a 30% referral payment on every sale. Like ClickFunnels, when a business owner signs up for this service, he/she will use it every month and stick with it over the long run.

3. ActiveCampaign

This is a marketing automation software. Similar to Aweber, it allows business owners to connect and engage with their customers.  This software has great retention because they have great email deliverability. When you send an email to your list, you can trust that it goes directly to people's inboxes.

ActiveCampaign offers people a free trial to sign up. With their affiliate program, they pay up to 30% of each customer's account value every single month.

4. Improvely

This is a marketing analytic platform that allows marketers to track, test, and optimize their online marketing campaigns. They are one of the best in the industry for analytics and split-testing.

They give you 50% of the first payment, and then 10% of the recurring revenue share for the first year for each customer you refer. You can make up to $1,400 per referral.

5. TubeBuddy

This is a Google Chrome extension that helps you build your YouTube channel. They help you with advanced keyword research so that you know which keywords someone is searching for on YouTube. Also, they give you ideas on the types of topics you should create YouTube videos on, and how to get traffic to your videos.

One great feature of TubeBuddy is their A/B split test. With all of my YouTube thumbnails, I always test two different thumbnails. Doing so allows me to see which one is going to get a better click-through rate. In addition, TubeBuddy helps you track the rankings of your videos on YouTube. With their affiliate program, you can earn up to 50% recurring commissions.

6. Teachable

This is a tool that allows you to create online courses. They have awesome features, some of which include a membership site, video hosting, a payment plugin, and email integration.

Teachable pays out 30% commissions with a 90-day cookie. This means that when people click on your affiliate link, it will place a cookie on their browser. As long as they sign up within 90 days, you will still earn a commission. However, if someone clears his/her browser cookie, you won't get the commission.

7. LongTailPro

This is a search engine optimization tool. It helps you identify keywords in Google that you can create content for, as well as track the rankings of your content. For each referral, you can earn a 30% commission on all sales and recurring transactions.

8. SEMrush

This is a suite of tools that offer solutions for search engine optimization, PPC, content marketing, market research, and social media marketing. You can earn up to 40% recurring commission from each SEMrush subscription.

9. SkedSocial

This is a social media management and scheduling tool for Instagram. If you're trying to build your Instagram, you want to use a tool like this. They have a ton of cool features, like a visual content calendar and hashtag analytics, to name a few.

SkedSocial offers a free 7-day trial so that you can test it before committing. SkedSocial gives affiliates 20% of the first payment, and then 10% recurring commission for the first 12 months.

10. Elegant Themes

WordPress is a free website creation platform that has a variety of custom themes for you to choose from. To use WordPress, you need to install a theme. A theme is like a design that someone else has made that you can install on WordPress and customize.

When someone signs up for this theme, he/she will get a license to use it, which will renew every year. With their affiliate program, you get 50% of the sale and you get the renewals of their subscriptions every year.

11. Clickbank

This is one of the largest affiliate marketplaces in the world. You need to sign up for a free account to get access to the marketplace. However, once you log in, you can browse a variety of different products that you can promote through its affiliate network. ClickBank's affiliate marketplace allows you to earn up to 90% commissions.

Before I dive into how you can make money with affiliate marketing, let's talk about what affiliate marketing is. Affiliate marketing is the process of earning a commission by promoting other people's products and services. The amazing thing about being an affiliate marketer is that you don't have to create a product or service.

Your main role is to promote products and services, via an affiliate link, on different content marketing platforms. When someone clicks on your link and buys something, you get a commission from that sale! There are thousands of affiliate products that you can choose from which can be found on various affiliate marketplaces.

The question is, “How do you know which marketplace is the best?” For the sake of this blog post, I am going to talk about Clickbank. However, this is only one affiliate marketplace amongst many. If you don't find a product on Clickbank, you can always look elsewhere.

Clickbank is one of the biggest affiliate marketing networks in the world.

They have over 200 million customers across 190 countries. On the Clickbank platform, you will find hundreds of thousands of physical and digital products. Some of the product categories include gaming, e-business, marketing, health & fitness, self-help, etc. Keep in mind that profit margins are usually higher for digital products than physical products.

There are a lot of great benefits of the Clickbank affiliate program, some of which include:

• Getting paid on time
• Promoting upsell offers
• Recurring commissions through their continuity program
• Earning high commissions (50-90%)

Once you are signed up with Clickbank, you want to access their affiliate marketplace. This is where you will find thousands of products that you can promote. There are some important factors to make note of when you're searching for products in the Clickbank marketplace. Below is an example of a product that is currently selling on Clickbank.

Rocket Spanish (online Spanish course)

Average dollar earned, per sale: $105.27 – This is how much affiliates are earning from this product, on average, per sale. This is really good. Keep in mind that not everyone will buy a product that they click on, but this is what you would earn if someone bought this product from you.

The initial dollar amount, per sale: $100.52 – This includes the upsells or order bumps that someone might purchase when they first buy this product.

Average percent, per sale: 62% – This is the percentage of commission, on average, that someone pays out. A product like this will have upsells. The front-end product may have a 50-90% commission, but there could also be an upsell offered once someone buys the product.

Average rebill total: $60.37 – This product has a continuity program, meaning that the course offers recurring payments.

Gravity: 10.47 – This is reflective of how many affiliates are actively promoting this product and generating sales from it in the last 12 weeks. Anything over 5 is decent. The higher the gravity is, the more popular the product is.

Methods For Reviewing Affiliate Products

There are several ways to promote an affiliate product. However, doing product reviews is one of the easiest and most common ways for affiliate marketers to make money. When you share your experience with a product, you want to make sure that you're always being honest and transparent.

This means acknowledging both the pros and cons of a potential product. For the purpose of this blog post, I am going to talk about two methods for reviewing affiliate products – YouTube and blogging. When it comes to promoting affiliate products on YouTube, it's important that you know how to do keyword research and search engine optimization.

This is what will help you get top video rankings for your affiliate product reviews and/or get traffic to your blog. For example, when I type in the keyword “Rocket Spanish” on YouTube, I immediately see a lot of keyword suggestions. This is a good sign that this is a popular product, meaning people come to YouTube to learn more about other people's experiences with the product.

A second method for reviewing and promoting products as an affiliate is blogging. If you go to Google and type in “Rocket Language Review”, you will see many bloggers who are already reviewing this product. Keep in mind that ranking your content in Google is a bit more complex than YouTube. However, both methods are great. On the whole, it's up to you which route you want to take.

This is the easiest way to make money with affiliate marketing.

I've been an affiliate marketer for over ten years.

I've learned a lot along my journey. I've discovered, through trial and error, that there are core rules that you need to follow if you want to be successful. If you don't, you end up getting yourself into trouble. I don't want you to fall into this trap, so here are my top 10 rules for affiliate marketing success. If you follow these, you're setting yourself up to win.

1. Be laser-focused

A big challenge that I see a lot of affiliate marketers face is that they are really scattered. They try to promote too many products at one time which only ends up diluting their focus. Instead, they should be focusing on one stream of traffic and build their business around one highly commissionable product.

That is the fastest path towards success as an affiliate marketer. I encourage you to create bonuses for people in order to incentivize them to buy an affiliate product through you. Furthermore, create a lot of content around your affiliate product. Once you've been successful with one core product, then you can branch-off and create another affiliate marketing funnel.

2. Be passionate about your niche and products

A lot of people get into affiliate marketing as a means of making money. I get it. I've been there before. The problem with this approach is that it's not sustainable. Money alone won't inspire you to keep going when you hit roadblocks.

However, if you build an affiliate marketing business around your passion, and promote products that you truly believe in, you will be successful. It is possible to profit from your passion and find a niche that you really want to get behind. At the end of the day, you want your products to add value and help others.

3. Carefully research and select affiliate products

You can't just promote any random product. Instead, make sure that your product is a high-quality one. Do research on the product and make sure that you've benefitted from it first. Also, make sure that you thoroughly understand the affiliate program you've chosen.

I suggest that you reach out to the affiliate manager of the program you choose and ensure that his/her communication is strong. Not only that, make sure that they've got great customer support. Don't forget that you are staking your reputation on the line for any product that you promote.

I also recommend researching what other affiliates are doing to promote the product you've chosen. Find pieces of content that they have created. Doing so will help you get ideas with your own promotional efforts.

4. Make sure that you put your followers and subscribers first

A lot of people that get into affiliate marketing do it to only make money. Their secondary goal is to add value to people. If you adopt this mindset, you will get into trouble. I always make sure that I put other people's needs above mine.

Always make sure that you are promoting products that truly serve people. If you can make money from the product, great! However, it should be your secondary goal, not your first.

Don't risk compromising the trust and relationships that you have already built with your audience. If you promote a product that people don't end up liking, this will negatively impact your credibility over the long-term.

5. Always be learning and improving

The Internet is always changing and evolving. If you don't adapt with it, you're going to get left behind. In order to be successful as an affiliate marketer, you always have to learn and improve your funnels, blog, content, ads… everything! The smartest way to learn is by learning from other people.

Find other successful affiliate marketers who are doing better than you are. Invest in their courses and training programs, hire coaches, or join a Mastermind group. Do anything that allows you to be in close proximity with successful people. This is what will save you time and accelerate your business success.

Don't waste your time and money learning from your own experiences. Rather, learn from others' failures. I don't know anyone that has ever been successful on their own.

Even if you're making big money in your affiliate marketing business, continue to remain humble. As a business owner and an affiliate marketer, I'm obsessed with learning. When I learn, I can share more and help others grow.

6. Commit fully to your affiliate marketing business

Affiliate marketing isn't a hobby or a side hustle. Hence, it's not something that you can dabble with. If you dabble, you will fail. The way that you achieve success as an affiliate marketer is by going all in and making it a high priority. You've got to fully commit and treat affiliate marketing as a business, because it is!

If you have a 9 to 5 job and you're doing affiliate marketing on the side, maybe you need to work on your business before you go to work. You may have to wake up at 5 am, but if you want it bad enough, you will do it. Similarly, you may need to work on your business on the weekend when everyone else is having fun.

If you're serious about making money from an online business, you've got to make sacrifices and work harder than everyone else. The more you put in, the more you get out of it. If you can do this, you will achieve financial freedom.

7. Be consistent 

You can't work on your affiliate marketing business once in a while. That won't get you results. Research shows that 90% of startups fail. A huge reason why this happens is because of a lack of consistency. If you want to have a successful affiliate marketing business, you have to make sure that you're working on your business consistently.

If you do, eventually a snowball effect will occur and your business will grow faster. I've been working on my online business for 7.5 years. Every single week I've been consistent. This is what has allowed me to get to where I am today.

I encourage you to develop the habit of consistency now. More importantly, make sure you reward and acknowledge yourself along the way. This will motivate you to keep going when you have bad days.

8. Be patient 

Building a business is a process that you must be patient with. Affiliate marketing isn't a get-rich-quick scheme. If you want to build a sustainable business that stands the test of time, it will require a lot of time, hard work, energy, and money.

A lot of people get into affiliate marketing with the wrong mindset. When they don't see success quick enough, they give up. They are dabblers who jump from one thing to the next but never finish anything. Don't measure your success based on how much money you are making.

That's just you being attached to a result, which you don't even have control over. All that you have control over is the process, so you may as well enjoy it! Don't forget to celebrate the small milestones that you make along the way.

The first time that you get your website set up or the first time that you publish a piece of content online, celebrate that goal. Whenever you reward yourself, you repeat that behavior. 

9. Always add value 

The relationships you create with people are the most valuable thing. When you create valuable content and have the mindset of serving, you are building trust and goodwill. This is what allows you to turn a follower into a lifelong customer.

You want to have these kinds of people in your corner. When you give to others, they will want to give back and support you as well. Don't just send people to an affiliate link. Make sure that you're collecting their email addresses so that you can start building relationships with them.

10. Make sure that you are compliant with affiliate terms and agreements and FTC

Every affiliate program has its own terms, rules, and regulations. Make sure that you follow them or else you will get into trouble. Make sure that you read and understand what you can and cannot do. Also, when it comes to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), make sure that you include a disclaimer in your content that clearly delineates that you are an affiliate for the product that you are promoting.

Do you mind sharing with people a little bit about your affiliate marketing business?

Affiliate marketing was introduced to me through Stefan. I didn't know what it was prior to taking his Affiliate Marketing Mastery course. The content I learned from his course was everything that I needed to know in order to get started with my affiliate marketing business to where it is today. For this reason, I highly recommend his course.

I already had an e-commerce business when I started affiliate marketing. However, I wanted to incorporate affiliate marketing into my existing business. I started to reflect on my customer journey. In my e-commerce business, I sell waist trainers. I have a brand called, Luxx Curves. However, I didn't want to limit myself to only selling waist trainers. I thought to myself, “Why do people buy waist trainers?”

By serving my customers and figuring out who my ideal client is, I soon realized that I'm in the business of weight loss. By broadening my perspective I was able to think bigger. I started to think about what resources and tools people would need along their journey to support them in reaching their weight loss goals.

The beauty of affiliate marketing is that you don't need to create products yourself.

I knew my audience would most likely benefit from beauty products and health supplements so I decided to become an affiliate for companies that I stand behind. One of those companies is called Bioptimizers. This is a super high-quality supplement company c0-founded by our friend, Wade Lightheart. I thought that his products would really help my audience along their weight loss journey.

Because of this, I started creating content sharing my experience with the supplements, how they have helped me, and I included an affiliate link in the description of my YouTube videos. I also became an affiliate for an Amazon product that sells resistance bands.

All that I did was find an Amazon Associates account and I signed up for their affiliate program. I published a video about resistance bands, created a blog post and reviewed the product. By doing so, people could buy through my affiliate link if they decided to.

However, I didn't stop at my e-commerce business.

I started my second YouTube channel, Tatiana James about one year ago. That channel is an affiliate marketing business in and of itself. It's all about giving value to people. Once you do that, you can start asking for something in return. However, be cautious about how often you ask.

I publish a lot of content related to helping people sell on Amazon. From my personal experience, I know that there are resources and tools that every Amazon seller needs along their journey. This is why I decided to become an affiliate for companies like Jungle Scout and Helium 10.

Can you talk about the value of content creation when it comes to building an affiliate marketing business?

A big part of affiliate marketing is having an audience whom you can share your content and affiliate links with. I promote my content through a variety of different social media platforms, some of which include Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. The bigger your audience, the more opportunities that you will have for your affiliate marketing business. I learned a lot through Stefan's course, in particular about the value of building an email list.

Let me give you an example of how this works. When you go to my website, Luxx Curves, I give you a free fitness guide. However, in order to get that guide, you have to enter your name and email address. From there, you get added to my email list and get set up with an autoresponder sequence. This funnels you through some affiliate links and my products. Essentially, it allows you to get to know me and my work better.

I learned how to do all of this through Stefan's course, Affiliate Marketing Mastery.

Keep in mind that building an audience takes time. Nothing is quick. The most important thing is consistency, especially when it comes to posting on social media platforms. Also, make sure that the content you're publishing is always valuable. People need a reason to sit through an entire video or spend time reading your blog posts.

How does an e-commerce business compare to an affiliate marketing business?

First and foremost, affiliate marketing is a much better option for people who are tight on cash because it takes far less money to get started. Conversely, with an e-commerce business, you need to have cash upfront to pay for shipping, marketing, inspection, your Amazon account, etc. The logistics involved with a physical products business are huge. It pays itself off in the future, but it takes time. If I were to choose one business model, I would only do affiliate marketing.

If you don't already know, affiliate marketing is the process of earning an affiliate commission by promoting someone else's product or service. It is the simplest and easiest way to make money online. The great thing about affiliate marketing is that you don't have to create a product and there is hardly any investment involved.

In order to maximize your affiliate marketing funnel efforts, there are a few tools that you will need. Once you have these things in place, you can successfully funnel people through your affiliate link.

Let's dive in!

The first thing that I like to do is create a map for the funnel that I'm about to build. In order to do this, I use a free tool called Funnelytics. Doing this allows me to look at the path that I need to take to make $10,000 per month.

Every online business is comprised of a funnel. Once you get traffic from different parts of the Internet, you funnel that traffic into what is known as an opt-in page. This is a simple page that you have on your website. The purpose of this page is to give away value as a way of incentivizing people to give you their name and email address.

By creating an opt-in page, people get on your email list. The benefit of building an email list is that you can build long-term relationships with people. There are two tools that you will need in order to create a high converting affiliate marketing sales funnel.

There are some great features within the Aweber autoresponder like reporting and analytics, sign up forms, and imports and exports.

Affiliate marketing is a lucrative business model.

The beauty of affiliate marketing is that you aren't responsible for creating a product or delivering it. All you have to do is focus on sending traffic to someone else through the affiliate link that they give you. As a result of your efforts, you earn a commission from each sale that is made.

Even though it's relatively simple to get started with affiliate marketing, becoming a successful affiliate marketer is a different thing altogether. Here are some of the things that I wish I knew before starting affiliate marketing.

1. Affiliate marketing isn't easy

When people start an affiliate marketing business of any kind, they tend to underestimate what it takes in order to be successful. Their only reference is from observing people who have already achieved the success that they desire.

It's easy to focus on someone's glory moments but be blind to what happens behind the scenes. Building a business is really hard work. In the words of Tony Robbins, “People are rewarded in public for what they practice in private.” 

2. Affiliate marketing isn't a get-rich-quick scheme

You won't become a millionaire overnight with affiliate marketing. Yes, there are some people who make money fast from this business model. However, for most people, this isn't the case. Affiliate marketing is a long-term game. If you only have a desire for instant gratification, you won't make money.

You will end up suffering from a shiny object syndrome. At its core, this is a disease of distraction whereby people jump from one thing to the next without mastering anything. Conversely, if you just stick with one thing, long-term, you will achieve success.

3. Affiliate marketing is too hard to do on your own

When I first started building my online business I was convinced that I could do it on my own. However, I ended up not getting any results for a few years. I was too stubborn to ask for help.

When you actually pay for something of value you are accelerating your success. You are learning from those who have already achieved what it is that you want. Investing in yourself will save you money and time in the long run.

4. Affiliate marketing is about building relationships with people 

When I first started an online business, it was all about me. I quickly realized that this mindset was keeping me stuck. The only way that you make money is by first providing value to others. You've got to create valuable content that solves problems.

If you focus on helping people get what they want, you, in turn, will get what you want. In my experience, when you create raving fans, people will buy from you again and again.

5. High-ticket affiliate marketing products are more profitable

Most affiliate products will pay you less than a 5% commission. This is why you want to focus on promoting high-ticket affiliate marketing products. High-ticket refers to products that cost hundreds to thousands of dollars. 

I like to promote high-end courses and training programs. It allows me to create an irresistible offer by way of providing bonuses to people. This further helps people, which is always a win-win.

6. Financial stability is necessary for long-term business success

Running a business costs money. Yes, there are ways that you can do affiliate marketing inexpensively. However, the quality of everything will be diminished. On top of that, it will be harder to build your business over the long-term. This is why it's important to make sure that you are financially stable when you start your business.

This is what I wish I knew before starting affiliate marketing.

1. ShareASale

This network has so many amazing products that you can promote as an affiliate. A lot of big brands use this program, like Jillian Michaels and The NBA Store. Keep in mind that most of the products that you will find on this network are physical in nature.

2. ClickBank

This network primarily focuses on digital products, although they do have physical products as well. The reason why I like to be an affiliate for digital products is that they have higher profit margins. For example, there isn't a lot of overhead involved with an online course or a training program. Hence, they can pay you more as an affiliate.

3. JVZoo

This network is similar to ClickBank. They have a lot of digital products in their marketplace. However, not all of the products are high quality. This is why you want to use the products before you decide to promote them. Always remember that people buy from those who they like and trust.

4. Commission Junction

This is one of the oldest and largest affiliate networks on the market that brings together advertisers and publishers. They have a lot of big brands on their site to choose from. Keep in mind that you need to have a website in order to use this marketplace.

5. Rakuten

This network has partnered with some of the biggest brands in the market, like Amazon, Kohl's, Walmart, or Macy's. They pay you either by cheque or Paypal in 25 different currencies worldwide.

6. AvantLink

This network has tons of great products to promote. It is known as the affiliate network of choice for a lot of top companies. The only challenge is that they are strict when it comes to approving affiliates. They are known for denying 80% of people who apply because they are only looking for affiliates that are legit.

7. Amazon Associates 

This network allows you to promote any product on Amazon's platform. However, they aren't the best affiliate program because you don't get as high of a commission (5-10%). Despite this, a benefit of Amazon is that you get a commission on all of the products that someone buys within 24 hours of clicking on your affiliate link.

8. FlexOffers

This is one of the largest affiliate networks and it's extremely user-friendly. However, commissions are calculated by cost per lead (CPL) and cost per action (CPA). Hence, the amount of money you make will depend on the amount of traffic that you get to your site and the commission rates.

9. Impact

This network is innovative in that they provide the technology to track and optimize affiliate marketing partnerships. Moreover, the platform is unique in that it empowers you to manage your own affiliate programs. In order to join a program, all you need to do is browse their marketplace. You can apply to as many as you like.

10. Google

A lot of affiliate programs can't be found in the above marketplaces. This is when you would do a search directly through Google. Think about products that you may already be using and benefitting from and then look on Google to see if they have an affiliate program attached to them.

These are the 10 best affiliate marketing programs of 2022.

Some of the affiliate programs that I spoke about above require that you have a website. Setting up a website can be very inexpensive and simple to do if you use WordPress. This is a free platform that uses pre-built templates and themes that you can choose from.

In order for your website to go live, you will need a domain name. You can purchase one through GoDaddy, which is the largest domain name registrar. It will cost you about $10 per year. Also, you will need website hosting. I recommend using Bluehost, which will cost you about $4 per month.

2. Build A Website

In order to be an affiliate marketer, you will need a website or blog from which you can promote other people's products or services. When it comes to creating an affiliate website that converts readers into buyers, content is king.

Focus on providing your readers with high quality, cutting-edge information and advice. Doing so will ensure that you are perceived as likeable and trustworthy; two skills that, if mastered, are guaranteed to win you long-lasting relationships.

Secondly, if you want to be successful online, you need to have a next level website design. If your website isn't easy to navigate or doesn't incite curiosity from the get-go, visitors will leave your site and won't come back. Invest time and effort into making it the best it can be. You can build a beautiful WordPress website, for free. All that you need to pay for is the domain name.

Because the affiliate marketing niche has become a competitive industry, it is important that you invest the time into finding the right niche that will consistently make you money. Don't just pick something because you like it. That's not a smart business move.

The end goal is to find a profitable niche and run with it!
