The Affiliate Marketing Business Model Explained

Affiliate marketing is the process of earning a commission by promoting other products you don't own. Most often, people or companies will run their own advertisements or do search engine optimization to get traffic to whatever it is that they are selling.

However, the easiest way for a company to acquire customers is to create a free affiliate program. They use free software or a website like Clickbank to do all of the tracking for their affiliate program links. The tracking occurs for 30-90 days. You earn an affiliate commission for each sale that is made through your affiliate link.

I've been in the affiliate marketing game for 10 years now. I've made millions of dollars as an affiliate marketer. It's one of my favorite ways of making money online. As many of you know who follow me, I am heavily invested in my personal growth and development.

When I benefit from something, I like to share it with my audience. If someone buys a product or service that I promote, I earn a commission from it. If you're focused on building a brand and audience, it's in your best interest to build long-term relationships with people.

The only way that you're rewarded in business is by adding massive value.

The leads that you generate in your affiliate marketing business are human beings. They have needs, goals, and problems that need solving. If you can find ways to solve peoples' problems and do it in an honest and ethical way, they will trust your recommendations.

This is how I've been able to build a raving fan audience with over 1 million subscribers on YouTube. As an entrepreneur and content creator, I'm aware of how much risk, time, money, and energy are involved with running a business and creating products from scratch.

The beauty of affiliate marketing is that you don't have to create a product or be an expert in something. Rather, the only responsibility that you have is to generate traffic and promote other peoples' products through their affiliate programs. As an affiliate, it's a win for you because you can earn affiliate commissions.

Similarly, it's a win for the company or the people who create affiliate programs because they are acquiring customers that they wouldn't normally get. It's also a win for the customers because they receive a great quality product and it benefits their lives.

The Three Most Profitable Niches

Finding a profitable niche is one of the most important things you need to get started with affiliate marketing. A niche is a topic or genre. There are many different niches that you can build your business around. However, the three most profitable niches are health, wealth, and relationships.

The reason why these niches are so profitable is that they are universal. Everybody values them. Each of these niches has a sub-niche. When you're first starting out, I suggest going more narrow with your niche.

1. Health

When it comes to the health niche, people search for solutions on the Internet for their health problems. For example, one of the biggest sub-niches in the health niche is weight loss. There are also sub-niches that exist within the weight loss niche.

There are many different ways to lose weight, whether that's through a ketogenic diet, fitness, pilates, yoga, intermittent fasting, etc. You can find a lot of affiliate programs that will allow you to promote products related to these sub-niches.

2. Wealth

We live in a society that values making money. Naturally, people want to know how to make more money, how to start a business, get out of debt, be a freelancer, manage a team, invest their money, etc.

Specific sub-niches in the wealth niche could be how to invest in stocks, how to sell on Amazon, or how to do influencer marketing. You can make the most money from this niche.

3. Relationships

Relationships are an important part of most people's lives. Whether people are looking for love or are wanting to improve their current relationship, there are a lot of different products in the relationship niche that can help them.

Being in a relationship is one of the biggest commitments people make, which means that people will be more willing to pay for solutions to their relationship issues. Relationship sub-niches may include online dating, infidelity, parenting, dating advice for women or women, or how to be more confident.

How To Find Profitable Affiliate Programs and Products

There are a lot of different affiliate programs that you can choose from. Companies that have affiliate programs are looking for people like you. That's how they can get more customers for their products. Some popular affiliate programs include:

• Clickbank
• ClickFunnels
• Amazon Associates
• Commission Junction

For some of these programs, you will need to create a website that you can set up using the hosting service BlueHost. They give you a free domain name (normally $10/year) and automatically link up the name servers with their hosting. Getting Traffic To Your Site

Once you know what your niche is, you have to get traffic to your website. One of the best ways to do this is through content marketing, whether that's a blog, YouTube video, podcast, or a social media channel. Content marketing is a great way to build strong relationships with your audience.

People will be more likely to follow your advice and be interested in checking out what you have to offer once you've established trust with them. Video content is a great way to reach audiences and sell affiliate products. This is what I do consistently on my YouTube channel and how I've been able to create such a successful affiliate marketing business.

Email Marketing 

When it comes to affiliate marketing, the most powerful strategy is to build an email list. When you're creating content online you are attracting visitors and viewers. Your goal should be to get a certain percentage of people to opt-in and subscribe to your email list.

When it comes to collecting peoples' email addresses and building an email list, I suggest using an email auto-responder service called Aweber. This service allows you to send automated follow-up messages to your subscribers.

Once you build up a great list (which can take years), you can make thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars from one email. This is what makes affiliate marketing so powerful.

How To Scale Your Affiliate Business

The first step of affiliate marketing is to get your first commission. Once you find something that works, you want to understand how you got that first sale. You can do this by tracking the stats of your blog, social media, or YouTube channel using Google Analytics.

You want to know how much traffic you're sending to an offer, what the conversion rate is, and how you can improve and optimize that. The best way to scale your business is through increased traffic.

For example, if you're getting great traffic from your blog or YouTube videos, you want to find ways that you can get even more traffic. You want to funnel all of the traffic that you receive into your email list. From your funnel, you can see how many opt-ins or subscribers you're getting.

When you have people opting into your list you want to look at your email follow-up series and what you're promoting. Analyze which products are making you the most money and focus more on those ones.

One of my favorite strategies for scaling conversions of any product is by creating a bonus. Over-delivering can take your affiliate marketing business to a whole new level.

What does it take to become a successful affiliate marketer?

Affiliate marketing is the process of making money by promoting someone else's product or service. This business model is one of the most effective ways to make money online.

Together with email marketing, affiliate marketing is one of the largest sources of online income, accounting for over 16% of all eCommerce orders in the USA and Canada.

While affiliate marketing is a legitimate business model, it is not a get-rich-quick model of income. You can achieve financial freedom with affiliate marketing, but only if you're willing to stick with it, long-term.

The most successful affiliate marketers take massive action consistently. More importantly, they have a business strategy in place for doing so. 

I was able to make $27,186 in only 5 days without investing a lot of time or effort. That's the beauty and benefit of being an affiliate marketer. To be honest, this is a small sample size of my affiliate marketing success.

I've made millions of dollars with affiliate marketing. However, I want to be clear that my success didn't happen overnight. I've been in the affiliate marketing game for a long time. It took me years of hard work to build my business and brand to where it is today. As a result, it has become a lot easier to make large sums of money in a short period.

I didn't make $27,186 overnight.

I've earned the right to be in the position where I can send a few emails to my email list and make thousands of dollars right away. That's because of the thousands of hours that I've practiced in private.

Last year I was involved in the biggest digital product launch in the history of the Internet with Tony Robbins, Dean Graziosi, and Russell Brunson.

I won third place in that affiliate contest amongst other top Internet marketing affiliates in the world. As an award for my efforts, I had the opportunity to take part in an exclusive Mastermind event at Tony Robbins' private resort in Fiji, alongside some other incredible entrepreneurs.

Let me give you the back story about how I was able to make this kind of money.

I've had my brand, Project Life Mastery for nine years now. Over the years I've shared a lot of different types of content with my audience. Everything from health and fitness, goal-setting, entrepreneurship, and investing. I started investing when I was 18 years old.

Eventually, I got into stock investing and trading. Today, I've built a million-dollar investment portfolio. As of late, I've been sharing a lot of content with my audience about how I invest in stocks.

A lot of people have benefitted from the knowledge that I've shared.

My audience members have been asking me if I'm going to create an investment course. I don't feel confident enough to create a course on investing. I have a lot of great knowledge, but there's still so much more about investing and stocks that I don't know.

As a student, I'm always learning. I decided to spend some money and time going through some investing courses so that I could share that knowledge with my audience. I came across a course that my friend Ryan Coissan created called The PB Code.

After I went through The PB Code I realized that a lot of my audience would be interested in Ryan's course. We did a Zoom interview together on my YouTube channel where he educated my audience about why he believes that stock options trading is the perfect lifestyle business.

Before we did the interview, Ryan and I had decided that we would put together a free training for the members of my audience who wanted to learn more about his offering. We then decided that I would be an affiliate for his course — whoever ended up signing up, I would earn a commission from that.

At the end of my video interview with Ryan, I provided an affiliate link to sign up for the training. Ryan hosted a great training and put together a special offer for my audience members. A lot of people signed up for his course.

As a result, I was able to make a lot of money promoting his course.

My affiliate marketing success is due, in large part, to the fact that I've built up a strong brand and audience. You need to make sure that you put other people's interests above your own. If you help enough people get what they want, you too will get what you want.

I have a lot of opportunities to promote courses, products, and programs that can make me a lot of money. However, I know that these offerings wouldn't be in the best interests of my audience. Thus, I wouldn't be comfortable sharing or endorsing them. I have personally benefitted from every product or service that I promote.

My focus, year after year, has been on adding massive value. As a result, people have trusted my recommendations. They have bought products and services through my affiliate links, time and time again. I've built a raving fan audience.

What I love most about affiliate marketing is that, rather than creating a product on your own, you simply have to promote someone else's product. Every time people click through your website and buy something from your affiliate link, you earn a commission. It's a win-win for everyone.

The most successful people in the world don't get to the top of their game by acting like everyone else. Rather, they possess specific traits and behaviors that have helped them create wealth faster than others. In effect, they are willing to do what most won't do. Did you know that habits make up 95% of a person's behavior? You are the sum of your habits.

Everything that you have or don't have today is determined by the quality of your habits. Given that successful people have successful habits, it makes sense to pay attention to what they are doing. What one man or woman can do, another man or woman can do. There's no reason why you can't be rich. Anything is possible.

I've identified 5 rich people habits that have contributed to my financial well-being. If you have the desire to build long-term wealth, adopting these habits will help you achieve your financial goals.  Let's dive in!

1. The Habit Of Money Management

Being a great money manager means that you are on top of your finances 24/7. A lot of people avoid looking at their bank account or credit card statements. Is this you? You may not be happy to see how much money you currently have in your account. However, when you avoid the truth, you have no power to change your financial situation.

Cultivating awareness goes a long way when it comes to managing your money. I check my investments on a regular basis. Doing so ensures that I am on top of my finances and expenses. If I drop the ball, my expenses will creep up and my investments will get off track.

If you cannot manage the money you already have, you will not be able to manage larger sums as you become more successful. The best way to manage your money is to start budgeting. Be mindful of where your money is going every month. Find ways that you can spend less so that you're able to save money for your future.

The most successful people invest time, attention, and energy into their finances. The more that they think of ways to save their money and grow their wealth, the richer they become. Remember… whatever you focus on will expand.

2. The Habit Of Saving Money

If you can't save money, you're not going to be able to get ahead in life. The big mistake that I see a lot of people make is that they live paycheck to paycheck. Whatever money they have coming in goes directly towards their expenses. It's not how much money you make that matters. Rather, it's how much money you keep.

I know quite a few people who make a lot of money but they spend it all. Sure enough, they have zero savings. Hence, their money doesn't appreciate over time. I'm still frugal in some aspects of my life, despite the fact that I've already achieved financial freedom. In order to be a great saver, you have to be willing to sacrifice the present moment for your long-term future.

Start planning for your retirement. Think about where you're going to be in 30-40 years from now. When you start saving your money early, your money has more time to compound. I recommend saving 10% of what you earn. Be willing to delay gratification in the short-term. Your future will thank you for it.

3. The Habit Of Investing

A lot of people consume and spend money on products instead of investing in the very companies that create those products. What I love about investing is that it allows me to invest in incredible entrepreneurs who are changing the world for the better. In his book, Rich Dad, Poor Dad, Robert Kiyosaki says that you need to invest your money into assets, not liabilities.

An asset is something that appreciates and grows in value over time. What assets can you invest your money into? The key to investing is to just get started! It is equally as important to invest in your personal growth and development as it is to invest your money. Taking care of your health and well-being will ensure that you are able to create more wealth. At the end of the day, your health is your wealth.

4. The Habit of Continual Learning

The more that you learn, the more money that you will earn. The most successful people are constantly upgrading themselves, whether that's from books, courses, or from being in close proximity with successful people. A five-year study of 177 self-made millionaires found that the self-made rich made a conscious effort to only forge relationships with individuals they aspired to be: other rich and successful people.

Successful people ask questions. They leave their ego at the door, never assuming that they know everything. As a result, they are better able to absorb new knowledge and put it into action. More importantly, they don't stop learning. They are up-to-date on cutting-edge trends in their industry which ensure that they are always one step ahead of the game.

If you want to achieve a high level of financial success you must adopt a growth mindset. I believe that everything is learnable. There is so much knowledge that you can consume on the Internet. Your level of income is in proportion to your level of self-development. The more that you commit to expanding your mind, the more money that you will make. It's that simple.

5. The Habit Of Giving

The only way that you make money is by contributing to others. The more that you give, the more that you will get rewarded. If you work a 9 to 5 job and you aspire to get a raise, give more! Think about ways that you can add more value to the company you work for. How can you help the company make or save more money?

This is what will help you stand out from other employees. In turn, you will create more opportunities to expand your skills and make more money. Similarly, if you're an entrepreneur, figure out how you can stand out from the competition.

Create a unique selling proposition that nobody else has. Make it a priority to over-deliver to your audience. In my business, I always focus on giving more than I receive. That is the formula for business success.

Alibaba is a great place to find high-quality product ideas.

Even better, you can find low price suppliers and manufacturers. What I love about Alibaba is that you can get samples sent to you to verify that the product is in fact good. You want to make sure that the supplier you decide to work with on Alibaba is assessed and verified.

This will ensure that you're picking the most reputable suppliers and that you don't encounter issues down the road. Alibaba protects you as the buyer. They have a service called Trade Assurance, which ensures that the payments you make through Alibaba.com are safe.

Right now Alibaba is offering a promotion called Super September. They are providing 3D showrooms where you can have a 360-degree view of products. With over 18,000 live broadcasts, you can browse through $3.7 million products, interact with suppliers, and ask them questions.

It's a virtual tradeshow that offers everything you would expect from a physical event. During the month of September, you can save 10% of the live broadcasts, receive more than 150,000+ supplier videos, and 2,000+ popular products. If you're a new buyer, you can save $60 U.S. on transaction fees and $200 on logistics.

Let's say that you want to sell blue-blocking glasses. First, you would go to Alibaba.com and type “blue-blocking glasses” in the search bar. I suggest filtering your search so that you're looking for a Verified supplier that also has Trade Assurance. If you find a pair of blue-blocking sunglasses that you want to order, you can get the supplier to customize the product to your liking.

However, keep in mind that when it comes to customizing orders, you will have to place a bigger order. The benefit of doing this is that you will get the best deals with suppliers and end up making more money. I like to reach out to 5-10 suppliers and get a few different samples sent to me to determine which product I want to get behind.

When it comes to private labeling a product, I encourage you to find a way to differentiate yourself from products that are already selling. With the example of blue-blocking sunglasses, find different lenses or styles. Doing so will allow you to stand out from the competition.

When it comes to choosing a logo, you can get something designed inexpensively on Fiverr.com or Upwork.com. If you decide to sell a product like blue-blocking sunglasses on Amazon, you can easily make a 50% profit margin. A lot of suppliers on Alibaba are familiar with how Amazon works. In particular, they know the process that is involved with shipping products to Amazon's warehouse.

You have two options when it comes to shipping your product.

A plane is a faster option, but it's more expensive. A boat is cheaper but it takes longer. If you get started with Alibaba in September, this will ensure that your product successfully sells on Amazon, Shopify, Walmart, or eBay by the Holidays.

In the U.S., Black Friday is on November 27th and Cyber Monday is on November 30th. These are two of the biggest shopping day sales of the year, so you're setting yourself up for success if you take advantage of them.

Coronavirus has hit the stock market hard.

There is a lot of fear and panic surrounding the Coronavirus. We still don't know what is going to happen to the economy. My heart goes out to all of the people who have been affected by the virus. I know that it's a real threat, especially to those who have a health condition or the elderly.

I believe that it's going to take a few months before the Coronavirus gets contained and stabilized. We are still at least one year away from a vaccine.

However, from an investment perspective, there are some great opportunities available right now. There are a lot of blue-chip stocks that you can buy at a discount. I've published a few pieces of content in the last while that will set the tone for what I'm going to talk about in this blog.

I've also shared how I'm preparing for the 2020 recession. Whether or not the Coronavirus is going to cause a recession, I don't know. In the U.S. the virus has triggered a bear market. This is when stocks drop from 20% or more from the all-time high. A correction typically happens when the S&P 500 drops from 10%-20% from all-time highs.

That only happens every year or so. Conversely, a recession or bear market only happens every decade. Right now, we are entering into this territory. That being said, we haven't hit bottom yet. Things are going to get worse. There are a lot of businesses that are going to be affected by the Coronavirus.

However, if you're prepared, you can benefit from the recession.

Recently, I published a blog that talks about how I'm preparing for the Coronavirus, both mentally, emotionally, and financially. You can never be too prepared. Today, I want to talk about how I have been investing over the last two weeks amidst the Coronavirus panic. I've been preparing for a stock market crash like this for several years.

I've been putting money aside and building a cash reserve. I knew that a recession was inevitable. I'm not an expert investor by any means. However, I want to share what I'm doing to profit from the Coronavirus panic. I'm what you call a long-term investor.

Warren Buffett is one of the most successful investors of all time. He once said, “You want to be greedy when people are fearful, and fearful when people are greedy.” Right now a lot of people are living in a state of fear, which means that they are selling stocks. Hence, there are a lot of great investment opportunities to take advantage of.

Right now, I am buying stocks. I'm not selling anything. I'm investing in blue-chip companies that have a market cap of over 1 trillion dollars, like Apple and Amazon. These are companies that have been around for decades. I never invest in anything too risky, like penny stocks. For the most part, I'm only investing in companies that can withstand turbulent times, similar to what we are experiencing now.

Thus, I don't have to sell my stocks.

I'm optimistic that the blue-chip companies I have invested in will rebound once the Coronavirus panic settles. Right now, there's a dip in the market. This means that I can buy stocks at a cheaper price, much less than what they were worth a few weeks ago when they were at an all-time high.

Specifically, the stocks that I like to buy are index funds, otherwise known as ETFs. This is one of the most secure ways to invest. When it comes to individual stocks, I like to invest in most of the big banks and financial companies. In Canada, I'm invested in TD Bank, Bank of Nova Scotia, CIBC, Royal Bank and BMO.

In the U.S., I'm invested in JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Morgan Stanley, Goldman & Sachs, Proctor & Gamble, and Prudential. It is possible to turn your passion into profit.

However, society and our school system try to convince us otherwise. As a result, we end up living other people's lives and falling into careers that we hate. What do Walt Disney, Sam Walton, Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, and Bill Gates have in common? Not one of them graduated from college when they “should have.” Success in life has zero correlation with your level of education. Let me give you an example to prove my point.

I didn't do well in school. I failed a lot of my classes. It's fair to say that I had zero motivation when it came to studying. The problem was that I never felt like I was learning valuable knowledge in the classroom. When I was 18 years old, I decided to work for my dad's construction business. My dad's goal was for me to take over the family business when he retired.

Even though it would have made him happy, it wouldn't have made me happy. I would have always felt like there was something missing in my life. I didn't want to live with a life of regret so I chose a different path from the one that my family wanted for me. That was one of the best decisions that I've ever made. Today, I have built a 7-figure online business doing what I love. I'm living my mission and I couldn't be happier.

Sometimes you've got to displease others and do what is best for you. Not everyone is going to understand your path in life, even the people who are closest to you. Everyone plays life cards differently, and your journey will never be the exact journey as someone else’s.

Pursue your dreams in spite of peoples' criticisms and judgments.

At the end of the day, it's your life, not theirs. I believe that when you're doing what you love, the money will follow. It won't feel like you've got to do work. Rather, it will feel like you get to do work. As Warren Buffett says, “You've got to tap dance to work every day.” This is why some of the most successful people never retire.

I believe that the Internet is the greatest opportunity of our lifetime. It has allowed anyone the ability to build a business and make money online. If entrepreneurship isn't for you, that's okay. However, if you want to be your own boss and create financial freedom, I encourage you to create an online business. Let's explore two key strategies for how to profit from your passion.

1. Become an expert in your industry

If you want to be an entrepreneur, you have to become an expert in your industry. It's about adopting what I call, the Mastery Mentality. The benefits of being an expert are far-reaching. Not only does it allow you to build your brand and make more money, but more importantly, you will be viewed as an authority figure.

This is what will set you apart from your competition. People buy from people whom they like and trust. Becoming great at anything requires that you go deep instead of just dabbling. Trust me when I say that, when you're passionate about something, going deep isn't hard.

2. Find opportunities that exist based on your passion

If you browse the Internet, you can type in a keyword for whatever your passion is. See what other people are doing in that industry. If there are websites and blogs online that are selling a product or service, you can be sure that that they are making money from it.

Don't reinvent the wheel. Instead, look at what is already working for people in your niche of interest and model their success. Make a list of 50 websites or YouTube channels that have an actual business and are profiting from their passion. Backward engineer it. What do they have in common with one another? This will help you determine the path that you should take based on your passion.

For example, let's say that you typed in “dogs” on Amazon.com. You will find that there are a lot of products associated with dogs. These are people who have built a brand around their passion and they are selling great products that they believe in. In some cases, they are making millions of dollars.

There is no reason why you can't create a profitable business doing the same thing.

You could sell a physical product on Amazon, write Kindle books, sell digital courses, do 1-on-1 coaching, and/or facilitate workshops for dog owners. A lot of people will pay more money for an in-person experience. When it comes to this niche, the most opportunity will revolve around solving the problems that currently exist.

The great thing about creating multiple streams of income is that once you've put in the hard work to set up these business models, you will start making money on autopilot.

1. Ecommerce/Selling on Amazon

The reality is that fewer and fewer people are buying from physical retail stores, like Walmart and Target. Online shopping is the future. Statistics show that online sales reached $7.4 billion on Black Friday. Those numbers didn't even include the sales from Cyber Monday. 

From the comfort of your home, you can literally buy anything online and the products will arrive directly to your door. Amazon is the largest online retailer giant in the world. One of the greatest advantages of Amazon is that they are on the cutting-edge of all of the technological advances. On top of that, they are growing globally on a massive scale.

Amazon's platform grows 20% every year. As Amazon grows, so too will your Amazon business. Amazon sells books and everything else. Literally. The bigger opportunity on Amazon is selling physical products. In a nutshell, it comes down to deciding on a product that you want to sell on Amazon that has high potential and high demand.

From there, you find a supplier that manufactures that product. You put your own packaging and labeling on that product, get it made by a manufacturer overseas, and have it shipped to an Amazon fulfillment center in whichever country you are selling in.

Once you set up an Amazon listing, all of a sudden, you have a piece of real estate on Amazon's website. The great thing about Amazon is that they do a lot of the heavy lifting for you.

In particular, the fulfillment and the marketing of your product. You can also leverage Shopify. You don't get the same benefits of Amazon, but it gives you more control over your brand and products. I suggest starting to sell on Amazon and then eventually transitioning over to Shopify.

2. Affiliate Marketing

The #1 challenge that every company online has is selling their products. That's why these companies, including Amazon, have affiliate programs. Anyone can join these programs and they are free! When you drive traffic to your blog or social media platform and someone clicks on your affiliate link, you earn a commission from that sale.

The great thing about affiliate marketing is that you didn't have to create a product. Rather, as an affiliate marketer, all you have to do is promote other people's products. This is why it's one of the easiest ways to make money online.

In my business, I'm always looking for ways that I can combine and leverage two or more business models. For example, if you are selling a product on Amazon, you are collecting buyers and customers. Ultimately, your goal isn't just to have a one-time consumer. Rather, you want someone to buy from you again and again. This is why you want to build an email list.

One of the best ways to serve your customers is through affiliate marketing. Through an email list, you can share and promote other people's products to your existing customers. This is what will allow you to increase your backend. Affiliate marketing is and will continue to be, one of my favorite ways to make money online.

3. Be An Influencer

The influencer trend has skyrocketed over the last few years. Being an influencer is such a great opportunity because every social media platform is free to use. Anyone can create and share content online with the world. The most valuable thing that you can have on the Internet is attention.

Influencers are people who have built up a following of people. More importantly, they have built a relationship and trust with these people over a period of time. Companies that want to market their products are looking for influencers who can represent their products and share them with their audience, and they will pay people to do so. 

The great thing about influencer marketing is that it's not a saturated market because everyone will relate and connect with someone in a different way. Hence, nobody could ever copy one another because they are each unique and different in their own ways.

For example, let's say that you are in the self-development niche (which is massive). People don't necessarily follow you for your content. Rather, they are following you for who you are. Maybe they connect with your story.

A lot of influencers, like coaches, YouTubers, bloggers, and podcasters share the same content. The message is the same. However, the way in which they deliver that content differs. 

4. Be A Freelancer

For those of you who don't want to build an online business, I recommend becoming a freelancer. This involves researching jobs that exist online and working for someone else. As the Internet grows, there is more demand and need for companies to hire people to help them work on their businesses.

As a freelancer, you have the freedom to work from home or anywhere in the world, without having the added pressures that come along with being an entrepreneur. Alternatively, if you are in the process of building an online business and need some extra income on the side, you can take the entrepreneurial skills that you're currently learning and help other companies.

There are a lot of companies that have yet to make the transition to selling their products online. If you have a developed a strong online skillset, you can approach companies and promote your services. People will pay great money and hire you to build their business.

Making money online is a long-term game.

Unfortunately, the Internet is inundated with so-called money “gurus” who sell people the dream of making fast money online. I hate to break it to you, but these are just get-rich-quick scams. Yes, these so called “proven” money-making schemes may help you make a few hundred or thousands of dollars in passive income in the short-term, but it won't be sustainable.

Building a successful online business takes a lot of hard work, time, energy and patience. It's not an easy task, which is why a lot of people quit early on. According to Forbes, 90% of startups fail.  However, startups don't fail because they are startups.

The beauty of being an affiliate marketer is that you aren't responsible for any of the risks that are involved with starting an online business. Your main job is to promote a product, share it, drive traffic through your affiliate link, and generate sales.

If you are a beginner in the online marketing world, affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways to make money. Let's dive into the 10 best affiliate marketing programs that you can make money from in 2022.

1. ShareASale

This network has so many amazing products that you can promote as an affiliate. A lot of big brands use this program, like Jillian Michaels and The NBA Store. Keep in mind that most of the products that you will find on this network are physical in nature.

2. ClickBank

This network primarily focuses on digital products, although they do have physical products as well. The reason why I like to be an affiliate for digital products is that they have higher profit margins. For example, there isn't a lot of overhead involved with an online course or a training program. Hence, they can pay you more as an affiliate.

3. JVZoo

This network is similar to ClickBank. They have a lot of digital products in their marketplace. However, not all of the products are high quality. This is why you want to use the products before you decide to promote them. Always remember that people buy from those who they like and trust.

4. Commission Junction

This is one of the oldest and largest affiliate networks on the market that brings together advertisers and publishers. They have a lot of big brands on their site to choose from. Keep in mind that you need to have a website in order to use this marketplace.

5. Rakuten

This network has partnered with some of the biggest brands in the market, like Amazon, Kohl's, Walmart, or Macy's. They pay you either by cheque or Paypal in 25 different currencies worldwide.

6. AvantLink

This network has tons of great products to promote. It is known as the affiliate network of choice for a lot of top companies. The only challenge is that they are strict when it comes to approving affiliates. They are known for denying 80% of people who apply because they are only looking for affiliates that are legit.

7. Amazon Associates 

This network allows you to promote any product on Amazon's platform. However, they aren't the best affiliate program because you don't get as high of a commission (5-10%). Despite this, a benefit of Amazon is that you get a commission on all of the products that someone buys within 24 hours of clicking on your affiliate link.

8. FlexOffers

This is one of the largest affiliate networks and it's extremely user-friendly. However, commissions are calculated by cost per lead (CPL) and cost per action (CPA). Hence, the amount of money you make will depend on the amount of traffic that you get to your site and the commission rates.

9. Impact

This network is innovative in that they provide the technology to track and optimize affiliate marketing partnerships. Moreover, the platform is unique in that it empowers you to manage your own affiliate programs. In order to join a program, all you need to do is browse their marketplace. You can apply to as many as you like.

10. Google

A lot of affiliate programs can't be found in the above marketplaces. This is when you would do a search directly through Google. Think about products that you may already be using and benefitting from and then look on Google to see if they have an affiliate program attached to them.

These are the 10 best affiliate marketing programs of 2022.

Some of the affiliate programs that I spoke about above require that you have a website. Setting up a website can be very inexpensive and simple to do if you use WordPress. This is a free platform that uses pre-built templates and themes that you can choose from.

In order for your website to go live, you will need a domain name. You can purchase one through GoDaddy, which is the largest domain name registrar. It will cost you about $10 per year. Also, you will need website hosting. I recommend using Bluehost, which will cost you about $4 per month.
