Starting an online business is easier than you think.

However, if you focus on all of the reasons why it won't work, you will only end up playing into your fears. Yes, there are a lot of risks involved in entrepreneurship, especially if you are used to working a traditional 9-to-5 job. On top of that, building a business is hard work. If you're not willing to go all-in, you won't get far.

There are endless reasons why starting an online business will work, but the question is, “Are you letting fear hold you back from taking action?” If the only thing holding you back from building an online business is fear of failure, I want to dispel this fear once and for all. 

Fear of failure prevents a lot of people from taking the first step towards becoming an entrepreneur. Let's face it… nobody likes to fail. We are taught from a young age that failure is a bad thing, so much so that we run from anything that doesn't feel safe. Tony Robbins is known for stating that we will do more to avoid pain than we will to gain pleasure.

This makes sense. Avoiding pain keeps you safe. However, while keeping you safe it will also prevent you from achieving your dreams. This is why I am a big believer in using pain as a motivator and catalyst for growth. It is near impossible to grow and expand if you stay inside your comfort zone.

I see failure as an essential stepping stone to success. I didn't build a 7-figure online business by playing it safe, and I definitely wouldn't be the person who I am today if I didn't experience failure. You may not believe it, but I've failed thousands of times and I plan on failing more in the future. I'm not scared of failing.

In fact, I embrace failure because it means that I am experimenting with life and figuring out what works and what doesn't. That is thinking smart. Almost every entrepreneur I know experiences moments of fear when they are first starting an online business. However, the ones who went on to achieve massive success never once allowed fear to derail their plans.

Their goals are bigger than their fear of failing.

They persevere and act, despite their fear. If you are new to the online business world, the most important thing that you can do is learn. Knowledge is power. However, if you don't do anything with it, it's pointless. The only way that you gain experience is by taking action and doing something.

If you try something and it doesn't work out, acknowledge what you learned from the experience before you move onto the next thing. Turn your mistakes into life lessons. That is the most valuable part of the learning process. In fact, adopting this mindset is what will allow you to prosper and succeed. The more you learn, the more you earn. 

For those of you who are patiently waiting for the perfect moment to build an online business, you're going to be waiting for a long time. Perfect doesn't exist. There are so many opportunities that exist online right now. Pick one and go all-in! If you change your mind and decide to change paths down the road, that's OK.

It won't mean that you wasted your time. Rather, you will have gained precious experience and knowledge that you can take with you into your next opportunity. When I first started my online business, I dabbled with a lot of different things. The process of taking messy action allowed me to gain valuable experience.

By the time I started Project Life Mastery in 2012, I had a world of knowledge at my disposal. However, it still took me 3 years before I started making money online. Some people may perceive this as a ‘failure' but in my eyes, it wasn't. Those 3 years set the foundation for the success that I have today.

Choose one online business model and go deep with it. I don't care what it is. Just commit and practice to learning anything and everything about that one thing. When you master a specific skill set, there is no limit to how successful you can be.

A YouTube channel is a great way to connect with people.

The fact that you are reading this right now proves that you want to start a YouTube channel. I respect and admire your desire because it means that you have the courage to put yourself out there. More importantly, it proves that you want to help and serve others.

I understand that it's scary to talk in front of a camera. By nature, I'm an introvert. It took me a long time to get comfortable and confident with what I do. When I first started my YouTube channel, my family and friends made fun of me because they didn't understand what I was doing.

Here's one thing that I've learned… results speak for themselves. As soon as you start making money from a YouTube channel, all of the sudden the same people who made fun of you are suddenly interested in what you've been able to accomplish. 

Tips For How To Get Started on YouTube

I've been a YouTuber for 8 years now and I've learned a lot along the way. I want to pay forward what I know so that you can create a money-making YouTube channel in 2022.

1. Understand that YouTube is a long-term game

Nobody starts a YouTube channel, publishes a few videos and gets views right away. That's not how the process works. When you're first starting, nobody knows who you are. Therefore, you won't get any subscribers or views. It's easy to get frustrated because nobody is watching your videos right away.

How you decide to approach this reality will make or break you. Most people cannot withstand this initial phase. It's important to remember that any new skill or endeavor takes practice. A lot of people are so attached to results on YouTube. They judge results based on views, subscribers, and the amount of money earned. When they don't see results, they get discouraged and give up.

The best way to get through this challenging phase of building your YouTube channel is to acknowledge the benefits that you are receiving from doing the work. You need to understand that, with every video that you record and publish, you are improving your communication skills, confidence, and personality. These skills translate to every other area of your life.

If you can keep publishing content for several months, you will make progress. With every video that you publish, try to adopt the mindset that you are planting a seed. Eventually, your YouTube channel will grow into something that has a core subscriber base that will support you. Unfortunately, there is no shortcut to success on YouTube. Rather, it's a long-term game.

2. Drop the desire to be perfect

A lot of people think that they can't start a YouTube channel until everything is perfect, in terms of the lighting, setup, audio, etc. The reality is that these things aren't as important as you think. Don't overthink things. What matters most is who you are and the message that you're getting across in your videos.

People will overlook the details if your content is good. Share something that can add value to people's lives, so much so that you motivate and empower them to look at the world from a different lens.

I always strive to make the message in my videos as simple as possible. When I first started my YouTube channel, I had a little camera that sat on a stack of books. I didn't have a microphone or a tripod. Eventually, I upgraded and bought the Panasonic GH5. Over time, I got better. It comes down to adopting the mindset of progress over perfection.

3. Decide on the niche you want to build your channel around

If you want to make money from YouTube deciding on a niche is very important. When people create a channel, most often they want to talk about things that interest them. Hence, the desire to vlog. The problem with this approach is that very few people are successful vloggers.

At the end of the day, YouTube is a search engine. People are searching for content that can help solve their problems. You want to ask yourself, “What are people searching for online that I can create content on?” This is the best way to get started with your YouTube channel.

Think of a niche or topic that you have some knowledge or experience in, and then do research to determine what other people are creating in that niche. This is a great way to learn from others, as well as get an idea of what the demand is for that niche.

I don't suggest going too broad with your YouTube channel from the onset. However, if you do, try experimenting with different types of videos. For example, videos on habits, goal-setting, rituals, beliefs, etc. See what people resonate most with and then build an audience from your research. After that, narrow down your content to serve that audience.

How to Make Money on YouTube

The first way to make money through YouTube is through YouTube ads. This happens if you have a Google Adsense account linked to your YouTube channel. If Google Ads turns on monetization for your videos, there will be an ad that pops up, either during the pre-roll before your video is played, or ads can be played throughout your video.

Every time someone watches an ad and clicks on it, you make money from it. However, keep in mind that how much money you make is dependent on how many views your videos get. What's even more important is how many advertisers are advertising on a specific video. Hence, choosing a profitable niche will always make you more money.

For example, advertisers will spend and invest more money on videos related to business than they will on videos related to self-development. Keep in mind that the money that you make from ads is the smallest amount of money that you will make. The real potential lies outside of YouTube.

When you attract an audience of people in a certain market, think about how you can serve them beyond YouTube. The second way to make money on YouTube is in the back end. The easiest way to start on the back end is through affiliate marketing.

The great thing about affiliate marketing is that you don't have to create a product yourself. Rather, you just have to promote it. Every time someone clicks on your link and buys a product through you, you make a commission from it.  

This is how to start a money-making YouTube channel in 2022.

Ultimately, you want to start a YouTube channel with the mindset of constantly adding value. People follow people whom they like and trust. Are you ready to build a channel that could potentially make you millions of dollars? There is no better time than now to start!

But none of them are my favorite.

Affiliate marketing is my favorite way of making money online.

I love nothing more than sharing products I've gotten benefit from, personally. Bringing you value is a great joy in my life and seeing you gain from the same things I gain from in my life is something that can only be done with affiliate marketing.

Why is affiliate marketing my favorite?

There are a few reasons. First, I don't have to create the product or service myself. It can take weeks and even a few months to create a new course. That means a lot of time and money researching, designing, developing, and everything else to make sure your product is high quality.

Plus you're spending all that time and there's still a lot of risks involved because you're not sure how well the product will do. You can do all the market research you want, but you'll never know until your product is live.

With affiliate marketing, you're not doing any of that labor. You know the product works and sells because you use it and bought it yourself! Take out as much guesswork as possible.

Second, I'm always trying to improve myself and grow my health, mindset, and business. When I benefit from something I naturally have an inclination to share it with people. I get so excited that I'm benefitting, I want to share it with you.

With affiliate marketing, I can create a commission without it costing anything extra for the customer! It's a win-win-win.

Let me explain what I mean by that.

In affiliate marketing, the customer gets the same benefit I am getting through purchasing the product. Win. The selling company gets a new customer and someone enjoying their product. Win. I get a commission by sharing the product and selling it with my affiliate link. Win.

Add it all up and you get a win-win-win!

Third, it's EASY to get started with affiliate marketing. You can join an affiliate program, get an affiliate link and share it with people. That's it!

The link tracks that the sale was referred by you. The process is automated so everyone can benefit immediately.

How am I making money online with affiliate marketing?

There are a few ways of making sure you are a successful affiliate marketer.

My favorite way of doing affiliate marketing is by creating a better offer for my audience. Since my audience is so great I want to give them an amazing discount on the product, a coupon code, etc. Something that's even better than the price they see on a sales page. Reach out to the company's affiliate program and see if that's available for you to offer.

Another way to have success in affiliate marketing is to see how can I add more value than is already provided. Can I create a free bonus that complements what people are buying? A great example is what I do with the Amazing Selling Machine. Their course is already the best out there, and then I add $15,000 worth of bonuses on top of everything to make the offer irresistible.

The key to success in business is adding more value than everyone else. When you serve others first your needs are taken care of in the process.

Finally, affiliate marketing is a great way to diversify and build multiple streams of income. You want to build a parthenon of income streams, not a one-legged stool. Affiliate marketing will get you there.

That's the key to affiliate marketing. And that's why it's my favorite way to make money online.

The main skill is to get traffic. That means creating content on Facebook, YouTube, a blog, a podcast etc. There are many ways to attract people. Pick a few and go deep with it. There are courses and training available to teach you how to do that. Once it clicks, there is no telling how far you will go.

I prefer content marketing — creating quality content for free and, again, creating massive value for people. That's why I have my blog and YouTube channel, and it's a big part of why they're so successful.

It's about building trust. Build a friendship with your audience. That way when you recommend something they're more likely to buy it from you.

Website

Your website is a direct reflection of your online business. It is your opportunity to make a killer first impression. Entrepreneur coach Martin Zwilling explains, “I see many entrepreneurs that focus on the basics of marketing too little and too late. They skimp on the design of their website, even though in the eyes of users, design is everything.”

On average, most websites have a 30-60% bounce rate.  This means that a large majority of web traffic entering your website leaves without navigating to any other pages. Why?  Because business owners don't make it a priority to create eye-catching content in the first 10-20 seconds.

Without a killer website, consumers won't visit your page and your marketing efforts will go to waste. Valuable website content is paramount to your online business success. Always remember that your website isn't about you, it's about your visitors.

Content Marketing

Today consumers rule the online world, which is why content marketing is more important than ever before. Creating high quality content is the best way to attract people to your brand online.

Content can be in the form of images, articles, blogs, podcasts, videos, etc. This is what has allowed me to build my brand and create a 7-figure online business. The #1 goal of content marketing is to build trust and develop long-lasting relationships with your target market.

In the words of Ross Simmonds, “Content marketing is a long-term relationship. It's not a one-night stand.” Becoming an authority doesn't happen overnight.  If you are looking for a ‘get rich quick' scenario, think again. Be consistent and add value to your audience.  If you do so, your customers will reward you when they are ready to make a purchase. The reality is that people buy from people they trust.

SEO

You can have the best blog or website in your industry, but if nobody is visiting it, then what is the point? According to Vocus, 82% of mobile shoppers use search to influence their purchasing decisions, and 70% of mobile searches for products or services will result in a sale in the near future.

Meet search engine optimization (SEO) – your website or blog's new best friend. SEO is the process of ensuring your website appears on a search engine’s results page when relevant searches are made by consumers.

In order to start building traffic for your online business, I suggest that you take advantage of free traffic sources, like podcasting, YouTube, social media, Kindle books, guest posting, etc.

Social Media 

Once your business has a killer website and an SEO strategy, social media can complement these by driving more traffic to your site. According to HubSpot, social media marketing has a 100% higher lead-to-close rate than outbound marketing.

It is important that you understand which social media platforms your audience is most active on and what they are searching for. Having a strong social media presence online will increase your web traffic, build conversions, and develop your brand. Seth Godin said it best – “Marketing is no longer about the stuff that you make, but about the stories you tell.”

Email Marketing

When you first start an online business, you want to spread the word. Email marketing is a powerful and cost-effective way to connect with your target market and increase ROI. The best way to ensure that people revisit your website is through email campaigns.

If you aren't sure how to do this, sign up for a couple email subscriptions of successful companies.  Learn from the best. By sharing information about your business via emails, you help customers see how valuable your product or service is.

A joint study from Shop.org and Forrester Research found that 85% of US retailers consider email marketing to be one of the most effective customer acquisition tactics (Forrester, 2014). This statistic proves that it works. Research shows that 8 out of 10 entrepreneurs who start businesses fail within the first 18 months (Wagner, 2013).

Follow these 5 online marketing “must have's” for your business success and you will be able to create a sustainable, long-term brand that stands the test of time.

One of the most popular questions I get from people that have watched my videos is the question, “How do you make passive income online?”  I've eluded to it several times in my videos, but haven't really gone into specifics or explained much of how to make passive income online – until now.

This blog post and video is going to reveal to you the top passive income business models that I personally have used to create financial freedom for myself at a young age.  In the video, I first talk about what is passive income and explain why you immediately need to be focusing on ways to create passive income streams for yourself.  I share the story about how I first discovered passive income, the lifestyle it's provided for me, and then share specific examples of different passive income business models that you can get started on.

Active Income vs. Passive Income

There are two types of income streams that exist.  There's Active Income and Passive Income.

Active Income is any type of income stream that is generated in exchange for your time or effort.  The moment you stop putting in time or effort, the income comes to a halt.  You have to consistently work hard to earn an active income.  The best example of active income is having a typical job.  With a job, you spend X number of hours at the workplace and in exchange you receive a pay check for those amount of hours.  If you stop working for that job or get fired, you immediately lose that income stream.

Passive Income is an income stream that is generated after only working hard once.  Once you've invested your time and efforts to create the passive income stream (an online business), your job is done.  The income generated by the automated systems that you've set up will produce a consistent passive income for you without any real-time presence.  You will continue to receive income for the rest of your life, even while you eat, sleep, travel the world… or even die.

The concept of making passive income is commonly taught by authors such as Robert Kiyosaki of Rich Dad, Poor Dad, as well as T. Harv Eker of the Millionaire Mind Intensive.  While I learned much from both of those guru's of the idea of earning passive income, it wasn't until I read The 4-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss that really drove it home for me.  Ever since I did, I've committed myself to becoming financially free.

Financial freedom is when your passive income exceeds your expenses.

Passive Income Business Models

In the video above, I gave specific examples of passive income business models that I personally have become successful at.  I mentioned 5 total online passive income streams that are pretty straightforward and quite simple to apply.  Anyone can do it – no matter what your experience with computers or technology may be.  Make sure to watch the video to see the website examples of the different business models.

1. Information Products

An information product is any type of product that provides information that the purchaser is seeking.  The example I gave in the video is that when people go to Google.com or any search engine, they are looking for information.  You would provide the information as a product on your website in the form of an e-book, audio or video program.

For some examples, go to the Clickbank Marketplace and you can view all of the information products people have created in the many available niches.  All of these websites and information products are designed to solve peoples problems.

Business is solving peoples problems at a profit.

While creating information products is a great way to make passive income online, it can take some more time than the other business models mentioned.  For an information product, you'll need to create a website, sales letter, a digital product, as well as do the marketing and traffic generation.  It does require more skills and some experience, but it's the best long-term and steady passive income stream mentioned here.  This business model also has the most potential to earn the most money over the other ones too.

Information Product Training Programs:

If you're looking to get started and learn more about creating your own niche website and information product, then I recommend checking out Niche Profit Classroom or Internet Business Mastery.  I've personally been through both programs and have learned a lot from them.  I also personally know the guys that run these training programs and can say that they genuinely care about helping people succeed online, as they've helped me build my information product niche websites to where they are today.

2. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing gives you the ability to earn a commission for promoting other peoples products.  Most information and physical products online have an affiliate program that you can sign-up for.  When you sign-up, you're given a special link to promote that product with.  Anyone that buys that product through your link will earn you a commission.

As mentioned in the video, you could easily create a simple WordPress blog that has a few reviews promoting a product on Clickbank.com or any other affiliate network.  You'd then get the blog to show up in Google for those specific keywords that people are searching for, the visitor would then view your blog, and then click your affiliate link to purchase the product.

You can also do affiliate marketing through a YouTube video (as mentioned in the video), a mailing list, or even through social media.  In my opinion, affiliate marketing is one of the best ways to get started as you don't have to worry about creating your own product, sales letter, or dealing with customer support.  Your only job is driving traffic to the person's website.

Affiliate Marketing Training Programs:

The only affiliate marketing training program that I really recommend is Bring The Fresh, which is run by Kelly Felix and Mike Long, two amazing guys who really care and know their stuff.  They have step-by-step video's that take you through each step to finding a niche, keyword research, setting up the blog, putting up content, and then getting search engine traffic to it.  I have several websites I've set up by using their program that make me a nice passive income online.  Highly recommended for anyone starting out.

3. Amazon Review Websites

This method is essentially the same as affiliate marketing, except you're promoting Amazon products.  Amazon has an affiliate program that anyone can sign-up for that allows you to promote any product on their website.  You can sell TV's, Computers, Books, Movies… anything.  With Amazon, you don't get the same commission structure as an information product (mentioned above with Affiliate Marketing), but if you promote expensive products such as TV's or Computers, you can really make a lot of money even if the commission is quite low.

The strategy here is the exact same as the Affiliate Marketing method mentioned above.  However, there are a few other strategies that you can implement to really be successful at Amazon Review Websites, mentioned in the training resource section below.  This type of method is also really great to plugin to your existing website.  For example, I make a small commission off of this Eckhart Tolle – The Power Of Now Review on my blog that directs people to buy the book from Amazon.

Amazon Review Websites Training Programs:

The only Amazon Review Website training program that I've been through is Chris Guthrie's Niche Profit Course.  On his website, he shares how he has made over $1,000,000 from promoting Amazon products, along with the proof of how he did it.  A great program worth checking out if you want to get into promoting Amazon products.

4. Kindle Book Marketing

This is probably one of the easiest ways on how to make passive income online.  You're essentially leveraging the Kindle store on Amazon and putting up your own e-book for people to purchase and download.  The secret to this method is doing the correct research and making sure that your Kindle book is optimized in their search and recommended product list.  The example I use in the video is by leveraging the trending “Steve Jobs” and creating a Kindle book that related to Steve jobs.  For example, you could easily create a Kindle book called “Top 10 Success Principles Of Steve Jobs” and sell it on Kindle for a couple bucks.

The only downside to Kindle is that the potential to make a lot of money isn't as high as creating your own information product or doing affiliate marketing, but it's still a great, easy, and simple way to on how to make passive income online.  Amazon and Kindle does all of the selling for you, all you have to do is put the Kindle book up on their marketplace.

Kindle Book Marketing Training Programs:

By far, one of the best Kindle marketing training programs available is Kindle Ritual Training by Brian Johnson.  The program is designed for total newbies and intermediate marketers.  I've used it and as of right now have about 12 Kindle Books up and running that make me a nice passive income without having to do anything.  In my opinion, this is one of the best ways to get started as a newbie, and as mentioned in the video, you can quickly create Kindle books without any costs involved and start making money within a few days.

5. Google Adsense Advertising

This was more of a quick bonus added in the video, but the method is simply adding Google Ads to your blog or website.  When people visit your website and click the ads, you get paid by Google.  Simple as that.  Very easy way to make money, but the amount of money you get paid for someone clicking the ads depends on how many advertisers are bidding on them using Google Adwords.  There are some people that only have Google Adsense on their website or blog and do quite well, while others simply add a few of the ads to their website as another stream of passive income.

Google Adsense Advertising Training Programs:

I personally haven't used any specific type of Google Adsense training that I can recommend to you.  But, you can pretty easily set them up to any blog that you create using the Bring The Fresh program.  If you're interested in setting up a blog, similar to Project Life Mastery, you can do that and then add Google Adsense to it or use some of the other methods outlined in this how to make passive income online blog post.  The best program I've been through for creating a blog is Start A Blog That Matters by Corbett Barr.  I'm in the same mastermind group as Corbett, and can say that he is a quality guy that really knows a lot about blogging.  I've personally used it and modelled many elements of Project Life Mastery from his program.

Making Money Online Is NOT Easy And Requires Hard Work

I know that I probably have made it sound very easy and simple to make money online.  I want to set some realistic expectations for you.  Just like anything else in life, in order to become successful at something it requires hard work and dedication.  All of the methods outlined here aren't “get rich quick” schemes or anything of that sort.  They are all tried, tested and true methods that I've personally used to make a passive income online.  But, it didn't happen overnight for me.

To become successful at internet marketing and making passive income online, it requires action.  Anyone that tells you otherwise is selling you false hope and trying to make money off of you.  It personally took me a year before I started making money online, but hopefully this doesn't have to be you as I can share with you the best of the best of what has helped get me to where I am today.

Making a passive income online is NOT impossible.  Anyone can do it, no matter where you're coming from.  I'm living proof of that, along with thousands of other internet marketers out there.  If you're committed to it, you will be successful at it.  The biggest challenge is making your first dollar online.  Once you've done that, you're 95% of the way there and things really start to accelerate.  That's when momentum kicks in, you've gone through the process, and you can scale things up faster.

• Clickbank – The #1 digital products retailer.  All of my products are on Clickbank and I also promote many other Clickbank product as an affiliate (see below).  Also comes with an affiliate program so others can promote your products.
• Market Samurai – The best keyword research tool available.  This software will help you be able to discover what niche or website to get into and do all the research required to be successful.  They have free video tutorials on their website.
• Google Adwords Keyword Research Tool – A tool that will help you to do basic keyword research and find out the popularity for certain keywords, as well as the competition.
• Unique Article Wizard – The best article marketing and article submission service that creates backlinks to your website to increase Google and search engine rankings.
• AWeber – The top email opt-in service and email marketing/broadcasting tool.  This is what I use to build my mailing list and newsletter.
• Google Analytics – Google's free website tracking and analytics tool.  Allows you to track all the stats and activity going on in your website.
• Google Adsense – Allows you to make money by placing relevant Google Ads on your website that are generated by advertisers using Google Adwords.
• Google Adwords – Allows you to place ads on Google to generate traffic for your website.  This allows you to target specific keywords and locations to have your ads displayed to your target market.
• Odesk – You can hire web designers, programmers, graphic designers, or anyone to do any virtual work for you abroad really inexpensively.
• Fiverr – Get work done for only $5.
