If you want to succeed at anything in life, you need to know how to achieve your goals.

Goals give us a sense of direction and focus. Without them, we would be wandering aimlessly. If you don't have a clear understanding of where you want to go, then how do you expect to ever get there?

We all want to achieve something great in our lives, yet many of us don't know what it takes in order to reach our desired outcome. The trick is knowing how to move from wanting something to actually following through and making it happen.

Setting goals is a good start, but it's not enough. If you don't have a plan in place for execution, you will fail.

When you look at the statistics for failure to achieve goals, the numbers are shocking. According to research by the University of Scranton, 92 percent of people that set New Year's goals never actually achieve them. Failure to achieve your goals can leave you feeling disappointed and depressed. The result? People give up.

If you want to be one of the 8% who succeeds, you need to know how to achieve your goals. Don't expect to say, “This is what I want” and have it magically come true. If you are serious about goal-setting, you need to understand that it is a process that takes time, commitment, hard work, and patience.

In the words of Brad Burden, “Winners must have two things; definite goals and a burning desire to achieve them.” Are you ready to learn what it takes to be a winner and achieve your goals?

How will you achieve your goals?

Before you can even think about setting or achieving your goals, you need to understand the difference between results-oriented and process-oriented goals.

Results-oriented goals are focused towards a specific result. Ultimately, a result is what you are striving for. However, if you only concern yourself with the final outcome, you are making a big mistake. Don't forget about the process that it takes in order to achieve your goals.

Process-oriented goals are small milestones that remind you that you are going in the right direction. Think of process-based goals as habits. Once you have mastered habits, then you can turn your focus towards the results that those habits are supposed to create.

I am a firm believer that, if you want to achieve your goals, you need to focus on and enjoy the process. This is my goal-setting strategy for success. In the words of Eric Thomas, “Fall in love with the process and the results will come.”

Let's explore 10 tips that will help you achieve your goals.

1. Make A Commitment

If you want to achieve your goals, you need to first make a commitment to yourself. Look at the current state of your life and ask yourself, “What is the consequence of NOT achieving my goals?”

If there is something that is holding you back, go inward and figure out what it is. If you are waiting for the perfect moment to commit to achieving your goals, you are going to be waiting a long time.

As William James once proclaimed, “To change one's life: Start immediately. Do it flamboyantly. No exceptions.” Are you ready to go all in?

2. Aim High, But Start Small

When it comes to setting goals, it's important to aim high. Big goals are awesome, in that they inspire us to take action. However, I see a lot of people that set big goals that are too grandiose. As a result, they never get achieved.

I'm a big believer that, when it comes to setting goals, you need to start small. Sometimes when we look at the big picture, our goals can feel unattainable, which is why we need to celebrate the small milestones that we make on a daily basis.

This idea is supported by Harvard researcher Teresa Amabile who points out that the single most powerful workplace motivator is small, daily progress which has the power to ignite joy and engagement in people.

I probably have over 50 plus goals. The reason why I never get overwhelmed with the number of goals that I have is that I don't focus on all of my goals at once. I hone in on 1-2 projects at a time, and then as I grow, I celebrate my wins and slowly start taking on more goals.

3. Determine Your Level of Desire and Belief

Whenever you set a goal, your intention is always to change something. In order to achieve your goals, you need to have a deep-seeded desire to change throughout the entire goal-setting process.

When you set a goal, ask yourself, “On a scale from 1-10, what is my level of desire to achieve this goal?” If your desire is a 2, then obviously you won't have the momentum that you need in order to achieve your goals. You want your desire to be in the range of 7-10.

Here's the kicker. Desire isn't enough. You also need to possess an unwavering belief in your ability to achieve your goals, which is why you also need to ask yourself, “On a scale from 1-10, what is my level of belief that I can achieve this goal?”

If you have a desire to make $10 million dollars this year, but your belief is at a 1, you are setting yourself up for failure. This is where a lot of people get stuck. They set goals, but because their desire and/or belief is not in alignment with the goal that they want to achieve, they fail.

The result? They drop into avoidance mode and forget about their goals altogether.

When you find the sweet spot, where your desire and your belief are in full alignment with your goals, you are setting yourself up for success. This goal-setting formula is what has allowed me to achieve my goals and take my life to the next level.

4. Drop Bad Habits

Achieving your goals is not so much about mastering the art of goal-setting, as it is about dropping the bad habits that are holding you back from success.

Our brains are hard-wired to prefer routine over something new, so when we are trying to kick a bad habit there is always some resistance. The result is that it inhibits our ability to make progress. Bring yourself back to “here and now” and stop thinking too far into the future.

Take the focus away from the goal itself and how you are going to get there and learn to fall in love with the process of who you want to become.

In the words of Leo Tolstoy, “Remember then: there is only one time that is important — Now. It is the most important time because it is the only time when we have any power.”

5. Be Consistent

To be consistent means that you commit to taking action over the long-term. It means that you are willing to go all-in and fully dedicate yourself to achieving your goals. This is what a master does. They don't get distracted by shiny objects. Rather, they are hyper-focused. Nothing stands in their way of success. If they can't find a way, they make a way.

Consistency comes down to repetition. If you want to master your life, you need to commit to repeating the same habits and rituals over and over again. One of the best ways to trick your brain into helping you achieve your goals is by consistently engaging in the habit that you want to adopt.

By working towards your goal, every day, it will be easier for your brain to convert that behavior into a habit. This is why I am such a big fan of morning rituals, as they help you make progress towards your goals by conditioning your mindset for success every day.

6. Set SMART Goals

When you set goals you have to make sure that you are achieving 80-90% of them. This is a mistake that I see a lot of people make. They set goals that are so big that they end up being impossible to achieve.

You need to phrase your goals properly, and the way that you do that is by using the S.M.A.R.T. philosophy. S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym that stands for: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely.

These types of goals will provide you with the structure and guidance that you need in order to ensure that you actually achieve what it is that you set out to do. I achieve all of the goals that I set for myself because I follow this strategy.

When it comes to reaching your goals, in her book, Succeed: How We Can Reach Our Goals, Heidi Halvorson says that “Difficult but possible is the key. That’s because more difficult goals cause you to, often unconsciously, increase your effort, focus, and commitment to the goal; persist longer; and make better use of the most effective strategies.”

7. Find an Accountability Partner

Achieving goals takes time, hard work, discipline, and commitment. When results don't come fast enough, a lot of people give up. Yes, it can be easy to lose your motivation in the process of achieving your goals, which is why you need to find an accountability partner.

The American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) did a study on accountability and found that you have a 65% of completing a goal if you commit to someone. Moreover, if you have a specific accountability appointment with a person you’ve committed, you will increase your chance of success by up to 95%!

When you are accountable to someone else, it gives you the momentum that you need to keep pushing forward. Find someone who will inspire you to stop talking about achieving your goals and that will actually challenge you to take action and crush them!

8. Write Your Goals Down

The act of setting goals is great, but they become real and tangible when you actually write your goals down. Doing so forces you to really think about what it is that you want. Visualize what life would be like if you achieved your goals.

What would it feel like to achieve the success that you desire?

Setting a goal is one thing, but oftentimes life gets in the way and we don't hold ourselves accountable for following through. Can you relate? We've all been there.

Writing down your goals also forces you to take action, especially when you read them out loud to yourself every day. They provide a benchmark that allows you to check-in with your progress so that you know how much farther you need to go in order to achieve your desired outcome.

9. Celebrate Your Milestones

Sometimes we can get so consumed with juggling our massive to-do lists that we forget to celebrate our accomplishments. Whenever you achieve a small milestone, don't forget to celebrate yourself! This will give you the motivation that you need in order to keep moving forward to keep leveling up and achieve your next big goal.

10. Don't Give Up!

The people who always succeed in achieving their goals are the ones who never give up. If you are expecting an easy, breezy ride on the road to success, keep dreaming. Anything of value requires hard work and persistence.

Your ability to overcome the challenges that you face along the way makes accomplishing your goals all that sweeter.

The fact that you have read this entire blog shows me that you are the type of person that is committed to doing whatever it takes to achieve your goals. Someone once said, “Giving up on your goal because of one setback is like slashing your other 3 tires because you got one flat.” Follow your dreams and don't ever give up.

If you want to live a life that you love, you need to achieve your goals.

The best place to start is by following the above 1o tips. Every successful person has one thing in common – they all set goals and work extremely hard to achieve them.

If you want to be successful, you need to drop the excuses. Stop telling yourself that you don't have time to achieve your goals. It's time to make time for the things that are most important to you.

Are you ready to crush your goals? There is no better time than today to start.

I want to share with you how I make $9000 per month on YouTube, in particular, the strategies that I have learned over the last five years that have allowed me to get to where I am today.

Presently, I have 300,000 subscribers on YouTube and over 15 million views. My audience is growing more and more every day. It is a very humbling experience to know that I have created this much impact in the world.

A YouTube channel provides unlimited opportunities. A lot of people get into the YouTube game thinking that they solely want to make money from the ads, but the backend potential is where the magic happens.

Are you ready to learn how you can maximize your profits on YouTube?

I’m not as concerned about the monthly ad revenue that I receive, as I am about how I can further maximize my profits on the backend of my channel. That is what a lot of YouTubers don’t understand because they lack knowledge in the areas of business and marketing. If you can master these two areas, I believe that there is an unlimited potential for success.

I started my YouTube channel on Feb 7, 2012 as a hobby. My channel is all about how to help people improve and master every area of their lives, which includes their health, physical body, mindset, emotions, relationships, business, finances and spiritual life.

When I first started out I had no idea what I was doing. I put out a video every week. Nobody watched my videos, but then after a few months I got traction and it started to take off. Over the last two years, I have published 200 videos/year.

You may think that making $9,000 per month on YouTube is an impressive feat, but I would not depend on YouTube as your sole income stream. It's not sustainable.

At any given moment, YouTube may change their algorithms, which can affect the amount of money that you make every month. I encourage people to use YouTube as a platform to reach, help, and add value to people, but ultimately you want to use it to build your own brand and your email list.

In doing so, you will be able to consistently communicate with your followers and subscribers. You can make a lot more money this way.

The most important factor is the watch time, which is how many minutes that people watch your videos. I have 9 million minutes in the last 30 days. This is what YouTube looks at the most, and how they reward videos.  Likes, dislikes, and comments used to matter a lot more, but now it's all about engagement.

There are a lot of channels out there that have a lot of subscribers, but that doesn’t mean that their videos are great. My main purpose in using YouTube is to add value; I want to create content that will benefit my audience.

When you are consistent on YouTube and you keep publishing high-quality videos, you will eventually hit a tipping point where things blow up.

Here are some tips that can help you grow and scale up your YouTube channel:

1. Frequency

When you first start your YouTube channel you don’t really know if anyone is going to watch your videos. This is where people give up. In order to succeed at youTube, you need to focus on the process, and not on the results (income, revenue, subscribers, etc.).

Building a business doesn't involve instant gratification. You get rewarded for the seeds that you plant today, but you need to consistently nurture those seeds. There are roots that are growing under the ground, but they aren't visible to you.

As long as you continue to stick with it and publish and promote more videos, those seeds will eventually sprout, which may be in the form of a video that gets 100,000 views. This is when the excitement occurs. Keep the faith, be consistent, and don’t give up! If you want to commit to mastery, you need to focus on the long-term.

2. Quality

The quality of your YouTube videos has to be good and they have to add value to the people in your market. That doesn’t mean that your production has to be amazing.

When I first started my channel, I had no audio equipment or lighting, and I filmed my videos on a stack of books. One of my most popular videos to-date was in 2012 when I received 700,000 views.

In that video, my camera fell over and my production was lousy, but it didn’t matter. People were attracted to my content. As the saying goes, “It’s not what you say, but how you say it.” You can engage people merely by how you communicate something.

Understand the niche or market that you are in, research what other successful people on YouTube are doing, and understand the difference between low and high quality videos. If you are putting out 50 videos and they aren't getting traction, you need to ask yourself, “Why aren’t people watching my videos?”

If you want to be successful, you need to constantly look for ways to improve and optimize your business. Quality always gets rewarded. In the words of Tom Peters, “The formula for success is under promise and over deliver.”

The money that you make is in direct proportion to the value that you add.

3. Keyword Optimization

The most effective way to get people to watch your videos is to master keyword optimization. If you want to drive more traffic to your channel, it is important that you create videos based on the keywords that people are searching for, not just necessarily what you want.

You could have the best video out there, but if you aren’t promoting and marketing it in the right way, nobody will be able to find you.

Watch my YouTube video above in order to learn how you can use YouTube to build a successful business and make a significantly larger amount of money than you ever could solely from YouTube ads!

This is how I make $9000 per month on YouTube and how I doubled my YouTube earnings in 3 months. I hope this information has empowered you to tap into the unlimited earning potential that the backend of YouTube provides.

If you are strategic and committed to the process, I guarantee that you can create an impressive passive income revenue stream on YouTube for years to come. If I can do it, so can you!

I would like to share with you some money management tips for getting out of debt. Debt is no fun, and the emotional burden that it can create in peoples’ lives can be overwhelming. Henrik Ibsen said it best, “Home life ceases to be free and beautiful as soon as it is founded on borrowing and debt.”

Have you ever wondered why so many people have outrageous debt? A large reason is due to the lack of having a well-disciplined budget and financial life.

Managing your money doesn’t have to be difficult. It’s about knowing how you are using your money. How would your life change if you were free of debt? Make a decision to get rid of it, once and for all.

Below are 5 money management tips for getting out of debt:

1. Be Aware of And Accept Your Debt

One of the most difficult things to do when first getting on the debt pay-off journey, is to truly accept your debt. Oftentimes, the reality of debt is too painful to acknowledge or accept, so the natural response is to avoid that it exists. I speak from personal experience.

When I was in my early 20’s, I was in a lot of debt. I had to make sacrifices in order to manage my money more efficiently and become debt-free. It was the acceptance of my reality that allowed me to make a change in my life. If you are serious about becoming debt-free, you need to acknowledge its existence. Be proactive. Don’t live in fear. Instead, take action.

2. Decide To Change your Spending Habits

Making a decision implies that you are about to take action. When you make the decision to change your spending habits, you are halfway there to financial freedom! Saving money is about changing spending habits. What are your spending habits?

In order to become debt-free, you need to address the actual money management habits that you are struggling with, that led to the debt in the first place. Ramona Pearson, a certified public accountant and personal financial advisor said that “Money habits are formulated at a very young age for most people.” Take the time to figure out why you're spending habits are the way they are.

Sure enough, this is the reason why a lot of people that win the lottery end up losing it all. They don't take the time to develop the discipline in order to manage their money properly.

Focus on cutting your expenses or your overhead in some way. This will allow you to have some extra cash flow every month. Then, you can use that cash flow to start paying off your debt.

3. Track Your Expenses

If you want to free yourself from debt, you need to start tracking your expenses. The best way to work out what you spend your money on and how much you have left at the end of every month, is to keep a record of all your expenses.

According to Pick The Brain, for two weeks you should write everything down that you spend. Record the time, the place, and how much it costs. Doing so will help you identify your spending patterns.

If you haven’t done something like this before, there is a good chance that you will shock yourself. How often do you track your money? If the answer is never, it’s time to get out a calculator and start doing the math!

4. Don’t Spend What You Earn

Once you start making money, don’t be tempted to spend MORE money. This is where people get themselves into trouble. You have to discipline yourself to NOT engage in this behaviour.

In his book, Rich Dad, Poor Dad: What The Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not!, Robert Kiyosaki said, “Invest in assets, not liabilities.” An asset is something that puts money into your pocket, while a liability is something that takes money out of your pocket. Which category does everything in your life fall into?

If you can’t manage the money that you currently have, then there is no point making more money. If you adopt the mindset that making MORE money will be the answer to your debt issues, you are wrong. This is a recipe for disaster.

5. Reward Yourself

Adjusting to a new style of living involves sacrifice. Breaking bad habits, especially when it comes to spending money, is hard work. This is why it’s important that you reward yourself when you have practiced self-discipline.

Be kind to yourself and engage in mini-celebrations, now and then. Why? Because the MORE that you acknowledge and reward yourself for your successes, the more success you will have.

Charles Duhigg, New York Times reporter and author of The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Businesssaid “First, you have to pick a cue, like every single time that you get a pay check, you’ll move 5% of it into savings.” The key to making your habit stick is to give yourself a reward every time that you engage in a positive behaviour.

Debt is debt, but don’t feel that you have to punish yourself because of it. Honour the small achievements that you make every day, on your journey towards financial freedom. How you choose to manage and spend your money can have a profound impact on your life. I encourage you to follow these money management tips for getting out of debt.

Your ability to make good money decisions will end up shaping the direction that your life will take. Are you ready to be free of debt? Take control of your financial future now!

1.  Have A WHY Behind Your Goals

First and foremost, you need an empowering WHY behind your goals.  You need to ask yourself, “Why do I want this goal?” and really dig deep.  Make a list of all the compelling reasons for achieving it.

One simple strategy is to use the PAIN and PLEASURE principle, that Tony Robbins teaches.  We as human being do things to either AVOID PAIN or to GAIN PLEASURE.  If you begin to think about all of the pain that will occur in your life if you don't achieve this goal, it will help drive you and give you rocket fuel towards achieving it.  In the same way, you want to think about the pleasure you will get by achieving it.

Some questions you could ask yourself are:

  • What will it cost me in my life if I don't achieve this? (pain)
  • What will the consequence by a year from now, 5 years from now, 10 years from now? (pain)
  • What is the benefits that I will get from achieving this goal? (pleasure)
  • How will my life chance a year from now, 5 years from now, 10 years from now by achieving this? (pleasure)

For example, here's some PAIN and PLEASURE reasons that I'd write down for some of my goals:

I will easily be 160 lbs at 6% body fat and compete in the WBFF on July 26, 2014.

WHY…

  • So that I can look in the mirror, smile and feel proud. (pleasure)
  • To never again feel unhappy or unworthy with my body again. (pain)
  • To be a living inspiration of what is possible if one is committed to excellence. (pleasure)
  • By not achieving this, I will not be the person I was meant to be and miss out on attracting the woman of my dreams. (pain)

Get the idea?  Just answer those questions and make a list.  Really think about the ones that have the most EMOTION behind them, as those will fuel you the most.  If you want to go through a more in-depth “life planning” exercise, check out the my life plan video blog.

2.  Have A Strategic Action Plan

achieving goalsEvery goal that you set requires a very specific, strategic action plan that will guarantee the achievement of your goal.  I recently put up a video on the best advice I could ever give you, and in it I spoke about the importance of finding a strategy and sticking to it.  One of the best ways to find the right plan is to FIND SOMEONE THAT HAS ALREADY ACHIEVED YOUR GOAL.  If you want to lose weight, find someone that has already lost the weight and learn from them.  There's a zillion courses and programs out there that are available for you, if you do some searching for it.  If you want to make money with Kindle publishing, get my course, it will show you everything you need to know and walk you through it.  You can also hire a coach or mentor if you don't know of anyone, there's a zillion of those out there also.

An example of one of my action plans for the goal listed above is the following:

  • Work out 5 times per week.
  • Consume 2000 calories per day and follow my macros of 150g of protein, 200g of carbs, 50g of fat.
  • Track my meals and calorie intake daily in a spreadsheet.
  • Take body measurements and photos every week.
  • Weight myself everyday at the gym and record weight.
  • E-mail my coach every week with my weekly progress report.
  • Post on my blog every month the progress I've made towards my goal.
  • Watch motivational videos around fitness and health every week for motivation.
  • Practice posing and “model walk” for a few weeks before the WBFF.
  • Make adjustments to meal and workout plan based on my coach.

Get the idea?  It's specific.  I list EXACTLY what I need to do to achieve my goal.  As long as a I follow this plan, with some small adjustments along the way (by working with my coach), then I will achieve the goal.  It's inevitable.  It's simple.  Just follow the plan, rinse and repeat.  Eliminate all other distractions and just stick with it and I'll be guaranteed success!

3. Chunk Your Goals Down

A year is a long time for most of us to think about.  Some of your yearly goals might be so big that they seem overwhelming or even unattainable.  That's why you want to chunk down your goals into smaller goals, such as 3-month and 1-month goals.  It's much easier to focus on a 3-month or 1-month goal than it is a 1-year goal.  It's also much more achievable for you as well.

So for example, if my 1-year goal is to be making $30,000/month consistently, then I'd break it down into the following:

3-month goal: I will easily be making $25,000 per month consistently by March 31, 2014.

1-month goal: I will easily be making $22,500 by January 31, 2014.

I first measure where I'm at, which is currently making at least $20,000/month consistently, and then take where I want to be, which is $30,000/month consistently… and I'd break down the goal to what I feel I could achieve that would be realistic in the next 1-month and 3-months.

The same would go if you want to lose 24 pounds of fat.  Do the math, and you'll determine that you need to lose two pounds per month.  That means your 1-month goal would become to lose 2 pounds of fat by January 31, 2014… and your 3-month goal would be to lose 6 pounds of fat by March 31, 2014.   Make sense?

4. Follow The S.M.A.R.T. Philosophy

specific goalsI always make sure I follow this philosophy for all of my goals.  S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym that stands for:

SPECIFIC
MEASURABLE
ATTAINABLE
REALISTIC
TIMELINE

I'm surprised by how many people that send me their goals are missing this simple philosophy behind their goals.  You need your goals to be specific and measurable, so that you can check-in with yourself every week and see the progress you're making.  If you just have the goal of “To make more money” or “To lose weight”, then that isn't specific and you wouldn't even know once you've achieved it.  That's why you always want to make sure you QUANTIFY your goal in some way.

Attainable and realistic is extremely important as well, since you need strong BELIEF behind your goals.  I spoke about making sure that your goals are high in the “belief scale” on a scale from 1-10 in my law of attraction video.  If you don't believe that you can achieve the goal, then you likely want take action towards it.  Many times, when you set goals that are too far out there, you're setting yourself up for failure.  When you continuously come up short for each of your goals, month after month, year after a year, eventually you “give up” with setting goals because you feel like a FAILURE.  Instead, make your goals winnable.  Set smaller, more achievable goals that you KNOW that you can hit.  There's a famous quote, “Whatever man can CONCEIVE and BELIEVE, he can ACHIEVE.”  You need to be able to have a high level of belief behind your goals.

Finally, don't forget the timeline.  You need to have a specific date or deadline to achieve your goal by.  This creates the urgency and pressure to get it done.  Just like in school, when you have a project that is due on a specific date, you will always GET IT DONE.  If you didn't have a deadline, then you likely won't get it done and will keep putting it off.  If you want to see some goals that are following the S.M.A.R.T. philosophy, then check out my 2014 goals and resolutions blog post.

5. Get Accountability

I speak about this all the time of my blog… but you NEED accountability.  You need to be accountable to someone other than yourself to ensure that you're taking action to achieve your goals.  It could be a great friend, a mastermind group, an accountability course like the 100 Day Challenge, or even hiring a coach.  This will give you that extra edge and push you every week towards them.

Right now, I'm apart of a mastermind group of 3 other friends.  We meet once a week in Vancouver (right now over Skype since I'm traveling) and we discuss our goals and accountabilities for the week.  We have a penalty of $5 or $10 for every action you set for the week that you don't achieve.  We push each other towards greatness.  We give each other feedback, help and support.  It's a powerful dynamic that I attribute a lot of my success to.

In the past, I've had an “accountability buddy” that I talk to every morning as part of my morning ritual. Sometimes in the evening, as part of my evening ritual as well.  This can be just a quick phone call where each person commits to 3 things they're going to do that day, and then follows up at the end of the night to check-in to see how they did.  You can also implement a “penalty” for not doing what you said, which is another motivating reason to follow through.

These 5 tips can really do wonders to make sure you achieve your goals this year, if you follow them.  I also recommend that you check out a powerful video awhile ago on how to actually achieve your goals which has some awesome advice on how to really make it happen with your goals this year.  I hope that these tips help you and I'm wishing you massive success with your goals!  Let's make it happen!
