I would like to talk about the myth of multitasking. In today’s fast-paced world, people have convinced themselves that multitasking is the sure-fire way to accomplish their goals and achieve success.

Think again.

A recent article published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) by three Stanford University researchers have proven that ‘doing it all' gets nothing done.

In their study, they found that those who rated themselves as chronic multitaskers made more mistakes, could remember fewer items, and took longer to complete a variety of focusing tasks than those self-rated as infrequent multitaskers.

If you can relate to these findings, it may be time to re-think your habits. The reality is that multitasking is simply a way to make overly stressed-out people feel as if they are being hyper-productive. Multitasking is actually slowing you down.

Are you ready to learn some tips for how you can more effectively manage tasks and maximize your productivity?

Do you want to learn how to create a morning ritual that will help you be more productive, healthier, and happier? CLICK HERE to join my Morning Ritual Mastery program!

In his best-selling book, Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less, Greg McKeown explains how the meaning of the word “priority” has shifted over time – “The word priority came into the English language in the 1400s. It was singular. It meant the very first or prior thing…Only in the 1900s did we pluralize the term and start talking about priorities. Illogically, we reasoned that by changing the word we could bend reality.”

Multitasking can be a challenging habit to break. However, with commitment and practice, anything is possible. The result? Healthier thought patterns, improved cognitive functioning, and higher productivity levels. It’s a win-win. Here are 4 tips that will help you focus on your most important tasks of the day, and be more productive as a result:

1. Focus On One Task At A Time

The solution to multitasking is single-tasking. Instead of spreading out all of your mental energy on multiple tasks, focus 100% of your attention on mastering one task.

This involves adopting a more minimalist way of thinking. Learn how to slow down and be more deliberate and thoughtful with your actions. Doing so will allow you to move throughout your day with greater ease and accomplishment.

When asked about how focusing on one thing at a time helped Apple become more effective at delivering innovative products consistently, Steve Jobs, Co-founder of Apple said, “People think focus means saying yes to the thing you've got to focus on. But that's not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully.”

2. Use A Notebook

When it comes to productivity, I suggest using a tool like the Productivity Planner, which is designed to help you accomplish your most important tasks so that you don’t feel overwhelmed throughout your day.

The Productivity Planner uses a Pomodoro Technique, which is a time management method that uses a timer to break down work into intervals (25-minutes in length), separated by short breaks. This simple tool has allowed me to narrow down the most important tasks of my day so that I feel more organized and get more done in the process.

3. Tune Out Distractions

When it comes to accomplishing tasks, the Internet has become the ultimate distraction. Do whatever it takes to eliminate all distractions when you work, whether that means turning off your phone, putting in earplugs, or logging out of social media. In 2010, researchers estimated that distracted workers were costing businesses $650 billion per year and that interruptions can take up as much as 6 hours of our day.

If you are able to give your full attention to a task at hand, you will maximize the accuracy and speed with which you accomplish it. Mastery requires consistency, commitment, and focus. In the end, if you commit to nothing, everything will appear as if it’s a distraction.

4. Start Your Day With A Morning Ritual

I am a firm believer that the best way to achieve more during your day is by adopting a morning ritual. By establishing a routine in the morning, you train your mind to focus on doing one thing at a time.

A morning ritual is the quickest way to prime your brain for success. Take some time every morning to nurture yourself. This simple activity has transformed my entire life and it can do the same for you.

The myth of multitasking is a real thing. When you jump from task to task, you overload your brain, making it less efficient and more prone to errors. Take back your time by slowing down and focusing on one task at a time. It may feel as if you are going slower, but you are actually making more progress in the long run.

Take it from Sir Richard Cecil, who said, “The shortest ways to do many things is to do only one thing at a time.”

I would like to share with you 5 ways to break bad habits. You are what you repeatedly do every day. If you allow bad habits to take over your life, they have the power to dramatically hinder your journey towards success.

In his book, The Habit Change Workbook: How To Break Bad Habits and Form Good Ones, James Claiborn describes a bad habit as, “Learned, almost automatic thoughts or behaviours that have become somehow problematic in our lives.”

Some of you may be wondering, “Why is it so difficult to break bad habits?” By nature, we are creatures of habit. Our brains work on a trigger and reward basis – the so-called “habit loop” – which means that it is easy to slip into a routine and difficult to fight back when the undesired behaviour occurs. Another words, it can take time for the brain to adapt to new ways of doing things.

In the words of Warren Buffett, “Chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken.” How are your bad habits holding you back in life? It's time to change your life for the better.

Do you want to learn how to create a morning ritual that will replace your bad habits with good ones? CLICK HERE to join my Morning Ritual Mastery course!

Below are 5 ways to break bad habits:

1. Be aware that you have a bad habit

If you want to change a bad habit, you need to become aware that it actually exists. Start monitoring your bad habits and get to know the frequency and circumstances wherein which you tend to engage in these behaviours.

2. Understand what triggers your bad habit

Step back and take a look at the triggers that cause you to engage in a bad habit in the first place. When you are equipped with this information, it is easier to know what actions you need to take in order to change your life.

The best way to avoid encountering a bad habit in the future is to remove yourself from environments that trigger it from occurring. For example, if you smoke when you drink, don't go to a bar. In the words of Robert Kiyosaki, “One of the best ways to make changes in your life is to change your environment. This then changes you.”

3. Replace A Bad Habit with a Good Habit

Todd Herman, the Founder of The Peak Group, argues that when you’re breaking old habits, your cells get overwhelmed with new information that they aren't used to, and your body begins to resist the changes.

In order to lessen the blow when this occurs, choose a substitute for your bad habit. Plan ahead. For example, what will you do if you get the urge to smoke? Perhaps you could do pranayama breathing exercises instead. Focus on slowly building new habits into your daily routine.

4. Set Realistic Goals

Your bad habits have been in your life for a long time. Breaking them altogether won't happen overnight. Rather than dive in head first, set realistic goals and implement small changes to your daily routine.

When you do so, it will be easier for those good habits to stick, long-term. If you push yourself too hard, you will become overwhelmed. Start slow and make a plan.

5. Be Kind To Yourself

Change can be difficult, so don't get down on yourself if you revert back to your old habits now and then. As long as you don't stay there, that's all that matters. Don't ever be afraid of making mistakes.

They are merely proof that you are trying. Forgive yourself and keep moving forward. Steve Kamb said it best, “When you screw up, skip a workout, eat bad foods, or sleep in, it doesn't make you a bad person. It makes you human. Welcome to the club.”

Are you ready to break free of your bad habits and replace them with healthy habits? With belief, commitment, and discipline, anything is possible. Sometimes the greatest breakthroughs in life occur right when we are about to give up. You got this!

Life mastery requires persistence, commitment, passion, and hard work. Do you want to know how to decide what to focus on and master? I’m here to show you. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I would like to share with you what has worked for me, and hopefully it resonates with you.

Like many entrepreneurs, when I first started growing my business, I made a lot of mistakes, which was a great learning experience for me. The beauty of mistakes is that they clarify what it is that we really want and how we want to live our lives. Robert Kiyosaki said it best, “Don’t waste a good mistake. Learn from it.” An MRI study published in the journal, Nature Communications, found that making a mistake can feel good, if our brains are given a chance to learn from it.

At the end of the day, I believe that the determining factor for how to decide what to focus on and master in your life is to live in accordance with your vision and purpose. What makes you come alive inside? If you don't wake up every day feeling a sense of excitement and vitality for the day ahead, it's time to make a change.

My true passion in life is self-development. The clearer that you are about the direction that you want your life to take, the happier and more fulfilled that you will be. That is what you need to focus on and master in your life. This is the path to life mastery.

That being said, my passion has evolved and changed over the years, and that is OK. Passions can influence your identity, but they don’t have to define who you are. I went through a phase where I wanted to master business and marketing, but now I’m at a stage in my life where I want to master self-development in its totality. If you love what you do, passion is easy.

Change can be difficult, especially when it requires breaking years of bad habits. Although I am a proponent of mastering all areas of your life, I also know that it can be challenging to change too much at once. If you want to master your life, you need to find ways to be consistent.

Research has shown that you are two to three times more likely to stick with your habits if you make a specific plan for when, where, and how you will perform the behaviour.

It is impossible to be in balance, 100% of the time. It does not exist. If you try to force mastery, you will drive yourself crazy. When children are playing on a seesaw and it’s in balance, do you think they are having fun? No. We need to be in conscious imbalance in order to move, perform at our best, and enjoy life.

In the quest to understanding who you are and what matters in your life, sometimes you need to swing from one extreme to the other. In doing so, you will find your flow and discover a balance that will satisfy your goals and dreams. In the words of Joyce Meyer, “Strive for excellence, not perfection, because we don’t live in a perfect world.”

At certain times in my life, I have focused my energy on mastering different areas of my life. For example, when I was younger, I placed more emphasis on mastering my mind, emotions, and relationships because I wanted to grow my self-confidence and improve my dating skills. I didn’t care about business and finances.

Oftentimes we look at each area of life in isolation from one another. However, eventually I got to a point where I realized that each area of my life worked together and affected one other. I knew that if I mastered my mind and emotions, it would support my business and finances. If I improved my health, it would help my relationships because I would feel more confident.

How to decide what to focus on and master in your life doesn’t have to be a difficult process. A clear sense of purpose allows you to focus your efforts on what matters most. If you want to achieve life mastery, you need to fall in love with the process of it. It requires that you are committed, disciplined, hardworking, and most of all, passionate.

Find out what it is that makes you come alive and then devote all of your energy to it. When you do so, life mastery becomes yours for the taking.

I would like to share with you 3 steps for breaking bad habits. Everyone has bad habits that are hard to kick, whether that's smoking, eating fast food, or consuming alcohol. Bad habits are a sure way to slow you down and decrease your productivity. When you allow a bad habit to take over your life, you inhibit your opportunities for success.

In his popular book, The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and BusinessCharles Duhigg cites a study from Duke University that shows that 40-45% of our daily actions are actually habits. Your daily actions make you who you are and determine how you choose to move throughout your life. What do your habits say about you?

One study found that people who exercise a high degree of self-control tend to be much happier than those who don’t, both in the moment and in the long run (Bradberry, 2017). If you want to be successful in life, you need to break bad habits. Doing so requires a large amount of willpower and self-control, but it all starts with developing a mastery mindset.

Here are 3 steps for breaking bad habits:

1. Commit to Change

If you want to break any bad habit, you need to first commit to making a change. By nature, we are creatures of habit. Change makes us feel uncomfortable. Leo Babauta, author of the blog, Zen Habits, is a fan of tackling one habit change at a time. Be kind to yourself. It takes a lot of energy and willpower to unlearn a behaviour.

The more that you engage in a bad habit – like smoking, gossiping, or surfing the web – the harder it is to change that habit. When you decide which bad habits you want to change, make sure that your goals for doing so are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bounded).

2. Discover The Cause

Once you have committed to changing your bad habits, you need to discover what it is that causes you to take part in them in the first place. Have you ever made a decision to break a bad habit and then you fail? The resulting emotion is often guilt, which is a horrible feeling. Next time this happens, ask yourself, “What rewards am I receiving from engaging in these bad habits?”

This will require you to dig deep, go inward, and do some soul-searching. Change will not be possible until you do so. Once you know what cue triggers your bad habits, and what reward you are receiving from them, you then need to build new habits, in order to replace the bad ones.

3. Create A Ritual

The best way to break a bad habit is to replace it with a good one, which is where the power of a morning ritual comes into play. The most successful people in the world have morning rituals. The mornings set the tone for how the rest of your day will unfold. When I do my morning ritual, I feel unstoppable.

Imagine how great it would feel if you could be more productive, have more energy, and be happier on a daily basis. When you take the time to honour yourself every morning, your entire day will transform. If you are consistent with your morning ritual, you will eventually break your bad habits.

John C. Maxwell said it best – “You will never change your life until you change something that you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” Are you ready to change your bad habits, and replace them with healthy, empowering ones? There is no better time than today to get started!

The post 5 Steps To Setting Life-Changing Intentions appeared first on Project Life Mastery.

]]>

I want to share with you 5 steps to setting life-changing intentions. Are you feeling stuck or not sure how to achieve what you desire in life? If so, you need to start harnessing the power of intentions. Everything that happens in life begins with an intention. It is the starting point of every goal or dream.

An intention is a mental state that reflects a commitment to achieving an action in the future. In essence, it is the creative fuel that satisfies every one of our desires; whether that is for a loving relationship, more money, spiritual guidance, or best of all self-love. When you set an intention, you are utilizing the power of the Law of Attraction so that the Universe can work its magic.

Everything you need and desire is inside of you. Get out of your own way and learn how to tap into the finite potential that resides in you. In the words of Wayne Dyer, “By banishing doubt and trusting your intuitive feelings, you clear a space for the power of intention to flow through.” Are you ready to create the reality that you desire?

Do you want to learn how to create a morning ritual that will help you manifest your intentions? CLICK HERE to purchase my Morning Ritual Mastery course!

By setting intentions, you pave the way for success and happiness in your life. Here are 5 steps to setting life-changing intentions:

1. Create a Morning Ritual

Morning rituals are an amazing way to connect to your inner self and set your intentions for the day. Someone once said, “Some days I feel like I can conquer the world. Other days it takes me 3 hours to convince myself to have a shower.” Can you relate? If so, you aren't alone. Bad habits are hard to break, but if you want to be successful in life, you need to be consistent, because we are defined by what we do every day.

If you don't wake up every day feeling energized, passionate, and excited about your life, it's time to create a ritual. I am living proof that a morning ritual is one of the most powerful ways to manifest your intentions and transform your life. Research shows your mood in the morning affects your productivity all day (Cooper, 2016). When I take time every morning to honour myself and my needs, it sets the tone for how I feel for the rest of the day.

2. Surrender to Resistance

Many people associate surrendering with giving up, but it's actually the opposite. Control is rooted in fear. Nothing positive grows in that space. If you want to manifest your intentions, you need to surrender to what is and let go of control. Always remember that whatever you resist, persists.

Don't try to fight the Universe, because it always wins. Detach yourself from the outcome and find your flow in life. When you do, you will attract what you desire most. In the words of Mooji, “Surrender is not a weakness; it is a strength. It takes tremendous strength to surrender life to the supreme – to the cosmic unfolding.”

3. Think Less, Feel More

When you are too attached to your thoughts and ‘in your head', you aren't able to make authentic decisions from your heart. When you feel as if you have already manifested your intentions, that is when the real magic happens. Why? Because the Universe responds to your thoughts in conjunction with your feelings.

You will not experience true alignment until you listen to your heart. That is where the truth lies. Following your heart is the secret to a fulfilled life. In the words of Denise Linn, “Shift the focus from what you want to do, to how you want to feel.”

4. Get Clear and Be Specific

If you aren't clear and specific about what your intentions are, how do you expect to bring it into your reality? This is where a lot of people get stuck. Are you attracting what you want into your life? If not, you need to be more aware of your thoughts and tailor words in a more positive way. For example, the words, “I will” are more definite than “I hope to” (Schwartz, 2017). The first attracts what you will do, but the second keeps you hopeful.

Know what it is that you want and make a plan to achieve it. If you’re not attracting what you want into your life, you need to monitor your thoughts more and use more positive, affirming language. Clear intentions lead to clear results. The Universe responds the best to certainty.

5. Visualize

One of the best ways to manifest your intention is to visualize yourself actually already having what it is that you want. Psychologists and therapists highlight the importance of VAK — visuals, audio, and kinesthetic modalities — in shaping our mind (Nguyen, 2015). Visualization is a powerful intention-setting tool that helps us align with our purpose and create the life of our dreams. The power of the mind is beyond recognition. When you start to visualize what you want in your life, you begin to see the possibility of achieving it. It creates momentum and inspiration to take massive action. There is no better recipe for success.

I challenge you to follow these 5 steps to setting life-changing intentions. Anything of value in this world requires intention. Setting goals isn't enough. When you set intentions, it allows you to focus on and be in alignment with your values. Furthermore, it raises your emotional energy, which in turn raises your physical energy (Tabaka, 2016). If you want to master your life, commit to setting life-changing intentions. Your dreams will thank you for it.

I would like to share with you some money management tips for getting out of debt. Debt is no fun, and the emotional burden that it can create in peoples’ lives can be overwhelming. Henrik Ibsen said it best, “Home life ceases to be free and beautiful as soon as it is founded on borrowing and debt.”

Have you ever wondered why so many people have outrageous debt? A large reason is due to the lack of having a well-disciplined budget and financial life.

Managing your money doesn’t have to be difficult. It’s about knowing how you are using your money. How would your life change if you were free of debt? Make a decision to get rid of it, once and for all.

Below are 5 money management tips for getting out of debt:

1. Be Aware of And Accept Your Debt

One of the most difficult things to do when first getting on the debt pay-off journey, is to truly accept your debt. Oftentimes, the reality of debt is too painful to acknowledge or accept, so the natural response is to avoid that it exists. I speak from personal experience.

When I was in my early 20’s, I was in a lot of debt. I had to make sacrifices in order to manage my money more efficiently and become debt-free. It was the acceptance of my reality that allowed me to make a change in my life. If you are serious about becoming debt-free, you need to acknowledge its existence. Be proactive. Don’t live in fear. Instead, take action.

2. Decide To Change your Spending Habits

Making a decision implies that you are about to take action. When you make the decision to change your spending habits, you are halfway there to financial freedom! Saving money is about changing spending habits. What are your spending habits?

In order to become debt-free, you need to address the actual money management habits that you are struggling with, that led to the debt in the first place. Ramona Pearson, a certified public accountant and personal financial advisor said that “Money habits are formulated at a very young age for most people.” Take the time to figure out why you're spending habits are the way they are.

Sure enough, this is the reason why a lot of people that win the lottery end up losing it all. They don't take the time to develop the discipline in order to manage their money properly.

Focus on cutting your expenses or your overhead in some way. This will allow you to have some extra cash flow every month. Then, you can use that cash flow to start paying off your debt.

3. Track Your Expenses

If you want to free yourself from debt, you need to start tracking your expenses. The best way to work out what you spend your money on and how much you have left at the end of every month, is to keep a record of all your expenses.

According to Pick The Brain, for two weeks you should write everything down that you spend. Record the time, the place, and how much it costs. Doing so will help you identify your spending patterns.

If you haven’t done something like this before, there is a good chance that you will shock yourself. How often do you track your money? If the answer is never, it’s time to get out a calculator and start doing the math!

4. Don’t Spend What You Earn

Once you start making money, don’t be tempted to spend MORE money. This is where people get themselves into trouble. You have to discipline yourself to NOT engage in this behaviour.

In his book, Rich Dad, Poor Dad: What The Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not!, Robert Kiyosaki said, “Invest in assets, not liabilities.” An asset is something that puts money into your pocket, while a liability is something that takes money out of your pocket. Which category does everything in your life fall into?

If you can’t manage the money that you currently have, then there is no point making more money. If you adopt the mindset that making MORE money will be the answer to your debt issues, you are wrong. This is a recipe for disaster.

5. Reward Yourself

Adjusting to a new style of living involves sacrifice. Breaking bad habits, especially when it comes to spending money, is hard work. This is why it’s important that you reward yourself when you have practiced self-discipline.

Be kind to yourself and engage in mini-celebrations, now and then. Why? Because the MORE that you acknowledge and reward yourself for your successes, the more success you will have.

Charles Duhigg, New York Times reporter and author of The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Businesssaid “First, you have to pick a cue, like every single time that you get a pay check, you’ll move 5% of it into savings.” The key to making your habit stick is to give yourself a reward every time that you engage in a positive behaviour.

Debt is debt, but don’t feel that you have to punish yourself because of it. Honour the small achievements that you make every day, on your journey towards financial freedom. How you choose to manage and spend your money can have a profound impact on your life. I encourage you to follow these money management tips for getting out of debt.

Your ability to make good money decisions will end up shaping the direction that your life will take. Are you ready to be free of debt? Take control of your financial future now!
