Laziness is a form of procrastination.

I'm very familiar with the habit of laziness, as I used to be a very lazy person. I skipped school a lot when I was a teenager because I was addicted to video games. As a result, I had zero motivation. I was merely looking for a life of comfort. Comfort is the enemy of a great life. As long as you're comfortable, you're not growing.

The good news is that laziness can be replaced by productivity. It comes down to the desire to shift your mindset and commit to adopting new and healthy ways of behaving. Today, I am the opposite of lazy. Taking action is what allows you to make progress in life, rather than just sitting around all day being lazy.

How do you feel when you aren't doing the things that you know you should be doing? I'm going to assume that your self-confidence plummets because you feel guilty.

Without adequate self-confidence, you won't believe that you're capable of doing something successfully. This inner conflict is what creates confusion and inaction for a lot of people. Here are 3 simple steps for how to STOP being lazy and start taking massive action.

1. Have A Vision That Excites You

Do you have a personal vision for your life? If not, now is the time to create one. Having a solid vision that motivates you to wake up every morning is what gives your life direction. If you don't have a “why” you will be more inclined to fall into a laziness trap because you will feel uninspired.

You've got to associate so much pleasure towards your vision that you are pulled towards it naturally. Research shows that envisioning your best possible future will boost your positive emotions, happiness levels, and willl improve your coping skills. When you have a strong enough why, the how will take care of itself. In this state, procrastination will no longer be a part of your vocabulary.

2. Understand how pain and pleasure work

The reason why you are lazy is that you associate doing the things that you know you should do as painful and uncomfortable. In effect, you are associating pleasure towards the things you are doing to distract yourself. You've got to link and associate to the pain of not doing what you know you should do, so much so that you hit an emotional threshold.

If you are struggling with laziness right now, what is the consequence of not taking action? As an example, if it's exercising, imagine what will happen if you don't make health a priority. Feel the pull of wanting to be fit so that you don't have to feel the pain of sickness.

Secondly, what has not taking action already cost you in the past? Take a look at all the things you've missed out on as a result of being lazy. Don't settle for a life of mediocrity because you deserve great things. Laziness is costing you too much.

Lastly, what pleasure will you receive by taking action and being productive? Your self-esteem will most likely go up. When you do the things that you know you should do, naturally you will feel good about yourself. The better that you feel, the more pleasure that you will associate to an experience, and the more likely that you will take action.

3. Find an accountability buddy

There will be times when you won't feel like being productive. However, that's where you need the most help. Most people move throughout their lives not asking for help. Rather, they brave it on their own. I don't know anyone who has become successful on their own.

They've all been in close proximity with others who hold them to a higher standard, whether that's in the form of coaches, mentors or accountability groups. The quality of your life is in direct proportion to the expectations of your peers. Find an accountability buddy or join a Facebook group, like my Project Life Mastery Global Facebook community!

We've got thousands of people from all over the world that come together to support one another. Find someone who you is motivated and ready to make a change in their life. Call one another and share 3 things that each of you is committed to doing in a given day.

If you break your commitment, have a consequence for doing so. Maybe that means donating $10 to a charity. Conversely, if one or both of you follow through with your commitments, make an effort to reward one another. What gets rewarded, gets repeated.

This is how to STOP being lazy once and for all.

If laziness is sabotaging your goals and dreams in life, it is time to break the cycle. Take back control of your life by following the simple steps that I outlined above. Commit to building new patterns and rituals that motivate you to take action.

All that matters is that you make progress. If you have a setback, don't beat yourself up. Every day is a new day to start fresh. Are you ready to become more productive?

Before you can design your perfect day you have to know what is important to you.

This starts with understanding what your vision is. I believe that all of us need to have a compelling vision that makes us come alive inside.

Research shows that those who have a vision will be far more successful than those who don't.

I'm going to share with you one of my favorite exercises for figuring out what you really want from life.

What does your perfect day involve?

If you don't know the answer to this question, visualization is the best place to start. Take a moment to close your eyes and imagine what you would be doing, who you would be doing it with, and how you would feel. Get as specific as possible. Without a compelling future that drives you forward, you will lack motivation and excitement.

A new study from psychologists at Washington University in St. Louis found that the imagination has the extraordinary capacity to shape reality. The authors suggest that “this is the first study showing that merely imagining something close to our hands will cause us to pay more attention to it.” I've experienced this first-hand in my own life.

One of my favorite visualization exercises is called “The Perfect Day.”

This is an awesome exercise for gradually building the life of your dreams. It's an opportunity to reflect upon what you love to do if there were zero limitations in your life. I've been practicing this exercise for many years now. When you think about your perfect day, ask yourself some of the following questions. Journal out, hour-by-hour, what it would look like.

  • What time would you wake up?
  • Where would you live?
  • What would your house look like?
  • How would you feel throughout the day?
  • What would you be doing at work?
  • Describe what your relationship would be like with your significant other

These are just a few examples of questions that you could ask yourself. Feel free to create questions of your own that resonate with you. Doing this exercise works. I encourage you to give it a try and see if you are able to start manifesting aspects of your perfect day into your everyday life.

Ready to design your perfect day?

Commit to building the foundation for your perfect day. It is well worth the investment of your time and energy. Yes, it may take time to transform your vision into reality. However, if you want it bad enough, you won't give up on your dreams.

Think of your imagination as a preview of your life's coming attractions. In the words of Albert Einstein, “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution.”

Don't wait. Start designing your dream life today.

Entrepreneurial Success: Do You Have What It Takes? https://projectlifemastery.com/entrepreneurial-success/ https://projectlifemastery.com/entrepreneurial-success/#respond Thu, 01 Feb 2018 15:00:05 +0000 http://projectlifemastery.com/?p=7836 Do you have what it takes to achieve entrepreneurial success? Discover the 4 traits that will give you a competitive advantage in the world of business!

The post Entrepreneurial Success: Do You Have What It Takes? appeared first on Project Life Mastery.

]]>

Entrepreneurial success isn't for the faint of heart. Many people dream of becoming an entrepreneur, but question whether or not they have what it takes to be successful.

Not all entrepreneurs are the same. There isn't a magical blueprint for entrepreneurial success, but there is one thing that is consistent amongst all successful entrepreneurs – they share personality traits that set them up to win.  The good news is that any trait can be learned and mastered, with practice.

Through hard work, commitment, and persistence, you can become a successful entrepreneur. It all starts with you. In the words of Arthur Ashe, “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”

Are you ready to learn what it takes to achieve entrepreneurial success?

Are you ready to achieve entrepreneurial success?

Successful entrepreneurs stand out from the rest. Think of some of the most successful names in business – Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Elon Musk. If you put a group of them in a room together you would find that they share similar traits with one another.

Luckily, the traits that successful entrepreneurs share are ones that can be developed, over time. Let's explore 4 traits of entrepreneurial success:

1. Grit

Successful entrepreneurs possess grit; otherwise known as the sheer determination to keep moving forward, no matter how many times you get knocked down.

In her book, Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, Angela Duckworth determines that grit is what separates those that are successful from those who fail. If you tend to be a dabbler and quit when things get tough, the business world will chew you up and spit you out.

It is fair to say that grit is a tool for entrepreneurial success. If you can learn how to transform failure into opportunities for growth, you will be able to conquer any challenge that comes your way.

2. Passion

Have you ever wondered why it is that people like Bill Gates continue to work an insane amount of hours, despite not having to ever work a day in their lives? It's called passion.

According to research conducted by Tony Tjan and co-authors Richard Harrington and Tsun-Yan Hsieh, 65% of founders have been identified as driven by “heart.”

Being an entrepreneur is hard work. If you don't love what you do, you won't succeed, which is why you need to be motivated by an intrinsic desire to achieve your goals.

3. Self-Confidence

As an entrepreneur, it is easy to feel frustrated, defeated, or doubtful from time to time. However, an essential quality of all successful entrepreneurs is that they have an unwavering confidence in their abilities. They do not question whether or not they are worthy of success. They know that they will achieve success, no matter what.

As a business owner, you are the face of your brand. If you aren't confident in your ideas and capabilities, how do you expect others to believe in you? In the words of Samuel Johnson, “Self-confidence is the first requisite to great undertakings.”

4. Vision

If you don't have a roadmap for where you want to go, how do you expect to ever reach your destination? Successful entrepreneurs are motivated by a strong and clear vision that guides all of their decisions. They know who they are, what they want to do, and where they want to go.

What is your vision for your business and your life? If you have yet to write a vision statement, I encourage you to do so. When you have a strong sense of what it is that you want to achieve in life, it will become crystal clear what actions you will need to take in order to achieve your goals.

While not a guarantee for success, possessing these 4 traits will give you a competitive advantage in the business world.

Do you have what it takes to achieve entrepreneurial success?

The best way to figure it out is by taking action and committing to self-development. The path of an entrepreneur isn’t easy, but it brings with it amazing opportunities if you are prepared and develop the qualities that are necessary for success.

Richard Branson said it best – “Successful entrepreneurs don't wait for the perfect moment – they create it.” What are you waiting for? Entrepreneurial success is yours for the taking!

I recently witnessed the building of a school in Ethiopia that I funded with your support. That Ethiopia school inauguration was a life-changing experience that I will never forget. I am honored that I was able to be a part of such a legacy.

Together with Imagine1Day, I helped fund and build a new school for children in Ethiopia. As many of you know, contribution is an important part of my life.

There is nothing more fulfilling than stepping outside of yourself and contributing to helping people in need. This can be in the form of volunteering your time or donating money to a cause or charity. There is no better way to shift your mindset from one of scarcity to abundance.

Together, we can help change the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves. How will you make a positive impact in the world?

When we arrived in the village where the school had been built, we were greeted by hundreds of people. Everybody from the local children, to government members, to military officials, to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia. It was a beautiful and humbling experience.

In the Western World, it is so easy to take our education for granted. Many of us are blessed to have the opportunity and privilege to learn in a safe and positive school environment. Previous to this Ethiopia school inauguration, local children were educated in an open-air classroom. They sat on stones and wrote on their laps because their community did not have the money to build proper schools.

Knowing that due to our contribution efforts 700 local children now have new classrooms, a playground, and a safe and comfortable educational environment to learn in brings me so much joy.

The focus of the new school that we helped build is to create visionary teachers, students, and future leaders. It was awesome to learn that each teacher and student at the school has one-year, five-year and ten-year goals and a vision for their life.

I am a firm believer, that no matter where you are from, or what your socioeconomic status is, every person has the ability to achieve their dreams. The power of a vision cannot be understated. It has the ability to transform your entire life.

Overall, the Ethiopia school inauguration was one of the most transformational and eye-opening experiences I’ve ever had in my life. I believe that the key to a happy and meaningful life is contribution.

In 2018, I am continuing my contribution efforts, and will be traveling to either Colombia, Costa Rica or Guatemala to build homes for families that are living in slum conditions. My goal is to raise $20,000 total, to build a school and 3 homes for those in need. I will be matching all donations that are made, and also giving significant amounts from my own pocket.

If you would like to partner with me to help raise money and be a force for good, please feel free to make a donation. In the words of Kathy Calvin, “Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference.” Let’s change lives together!

In this book, The Entrepreneur Roller Coaster: Why Now Is the Time to #JoinTheRide, Darren Hardy says that people who make the jump into entrepreneurship just aren't ready, prepared, or equipped.

I want to share with you the best entrepreneur advice for beginners, comprised of skills that every entrepreneur must master:

1. Believe in Yourself

Making the choice to become an entrepreneur takes courage, especially when family or friends don’t support your vision, which is why you need to believe in yourself.

The most successful people in this world didn’t get to where they are today by doubting themselves. Talk to yourself as if you are a winner.

If you don’t believe in yourself, who will believe in you? This is your life, your choices, and your destiny. Make it count. As Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.”

2. Master Your Emotions

If you want to succeed at anything in life, it starts with going inward and learning how to master your emotions. Successful entrepreneurs don’t let their emotions drive their decisions. Rather, they remain calm and calculated under pressure.

A business that is based on reactive decisions will only result in failure. Yes, you will get triggered, but it is up to you to learn how to calm your ‘emotional storm’ so that you can master any challenge that stands in your way of success.

3. Enjoy The Process Of Success

If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, you need to learn how to enjoy the process of success. If you only focus on external rewards from your efforts, you will always be in the rat race. Don’t be a slave to your external environment.

Even when you start making a certain amount of money and become financially free, it won’t be enough. You will always be looking for the next best thing.

The chase will never make you happy, which is why you need to become less attached to the final outcome and enjoy the process of success. That is where the real growth lies.

4. Focus on Contribution

Take a moment and think about how lucky you are to be able to do what you love. Having an appreciation for your accomplishments carries more meaning when you are able to give back and make a positive impact on the lives of others.

At the end of the day, contribution is the ultimate reward in life. I believe that we are all here to give and contribute something, beyond ourselves. Not only does it give you a sense of lasting fulfillment, but it also serves to accelerate your success at a much faster pace.

In the words of Zig Ziglar, “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”

5. Don’t Be Afraid Of Failure

If you have experienced failure in the past, great! Failure is a normal part of the learning process of life. Thank your failures for the lessons and then let them go.

Accept and learn from your past, but don’t live there, because it doesn’t dictate your future in any way unless you allow it to. If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you will get what you’ve always gotten.

It’s easy to feel shitty when things don’t go your way, but if you want to truly succeed as an entrepreneur you have to use pain as motivation, and develop the mindset and the willpower to keep pushing despite the obstacles that stand in your way.

Use failure as a tool for growth and change. It has the ability to propel you forward and prepare you for what lies ahead.

Being a successful entrepreneur doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a long-term commitment, but the payoff is sweet. This is the best entrepreneur advice for beginners. I challenge you to start utilizing these skills in your business. The result? Business mastery.

Are you someone that is stuck in the past? If so, it’s time to live in the now! This is the secret to a happier future.

We live in a world of distractions. We are bombarded with millions of things that take us away from the present moment, and thus diminish our ability to practice stillness.

Buddhist scholar B. Alan Wallace once said that, “We're living in a world that contributes in a major way to mental fragmentation, disintegration, distraction, de-coherence.” The good news is that you have the power to change.

Many people find themselves either obsessing about the future or dwelling in the past. This is a recipe for pain and suffering. Anything that has occurred in your life up to this point in time is ancient history. Your past does not determine or dictate your future in any way unless you allow it to.

What many of us forget is that our ability to create the future of our dreams hinges on our ability to enjoy the present moment. Don’t worry about tomorrow. It’s time to live in the now!

The world is ever-changing, and if you want to succeed you have to change with it. There is no way of knowing what your life will look like 50 years from now.

However, what you can do is take the steps necessary in order to craft the vision for your life, in the here and now. That vision may change and evolve over time, and that is OK. The important thing is that you set goals for yourself and work hard to achieve them.

The problem is that a lot of people are afraid to make any decision at all, for fear that it will be the wrong one. Instead, they prefer to live in their comfort zone because it feels safe. But there is nothing safe about this zone.

We need to examine our fears and make friends with them. Sure, some choices that we make may lead to more painful life lessons, but nothing hurts more than living in fear.

Oftentimes, what you fear most is the one that will bring you closer to living in alignment with your vision, and inevitably, what will set you free. In the words of Pema Chodron, “Fear is a natural reaction to moving closer to the truth.”

The best way to overcome fear is to adopt a growth mindset. These types of people thrive off of challenges and see failure not as evidence of their lack of intelligence, but rather as an opportunity for growth and expansion of their current strengths.

Growth and gratitude go hand in hand. By adopting an attitude of gratitude, we are able to move through life in a much more positive way, which contributes to greater happiness and fulfillment in all areas of life. When we are appreciative of what we already have and live in the now, it inspires us to grow and become more.

Oftentimes people get upset over the littlest things. Each day provides you with an opportunity to make new decisions and choices. If you take things for granted it means that you are too focused on yourself. Step outside of yourself and be more grateful for the blessings that already exist in your life. Live in the now!

The next time that you catch yourself in a negative spiral of complaining or expectation, step back and ask yourself, “In this moment, what am I am grateful for? How can I use this experience to better myself?”

What action will you take today in order to create the life that you desire? You have the choice of deciding who you want to be in this moment and what you want to create for your future.

Drop the past. The present moment is life itself. Live in the now! That is the secret to a happier future. In the words of Eckhart Tolle, “Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life.” Being present is the only way to enjoy life to the fullest.

The post 4 Ways To Build A Motivation Mindset appeared first on Project Life Mastery.

]]>

I would like to share with you 4 ways to build a motivation mindset. Motivation is the driving force that inspires people to take action in life. Think about a time when you felt really motivated to achieve a goal. How did it feel? How did that feeling fuel your desire to achieve it?

When it comes to making big changes in life, your desire must overrule your fear. It all comes down to your mindset. Simply expressing that you want to achieve a goal isn’t enough. Internal motivation is only one piece of the puzzle. You need to actually put in the effort, which requires mental strength.

Achieving anything of value requires hard work, perseverance, commitment, and energy. You can expect to experience setbacks and failures along your path to success. That is a normal part of life and an integral aspect of the learning process.

In the words of Joe DiMaggio,Motivation is something that nobody else can give you…it must come from inside you, and you must possess a constant desire to do your very best at all times and under any circumstance.”

Are you ready to build a motivation mindset? CLICK HERE to receive my free course that reveals my 7 online business models for success!

This page contains affiliate links. If you purchase a product through one of them, I will receive a commission (at no additional cost to you). I only ever endorse products that I have personally used and benefitted from personally. Thank you for your support!

Let’s explore 4 ways to build a motivation mindset:

1. Know Your Strengths

When you have an awareness of your strengths, it helps you make smarter choices in life because it equips you with the right resources and tools that will contribute to your success. When it comes to your goals, having knowledge of your strengths gives you the confidence and motivation to take action so that you can take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way.

2. Find the “Why” Behind Your Goals

Before you set out to achieve your goals, you need an empowering “why”. Dig deep and ask yourself, “Why do I want to achieve this goal?” More importantly, what will be the consequence or pain that you will experience if you do not achieve this goal?”

In the process of constructing your dream life, the important thing to be aware of is not the goals you set, but rather what motivates you towards those goals. Are you chasing what it is that you really want in life? In the words of Henry David Thoreau, “What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.”

3. Enjoy the Process

Are you truly enjoying your life or do you find that you are constantly stressed out about everything? So many people are focused on the destination alone that they forget to enjoy the process of getting to where they want to go.

Goals aren’t all about the end result. If you want to be consistent over the long-term, you need to find ways to enjoy the process. In his book, The Slight Edge: Turning Simple Disciplines into Massive Success and Happiness, Jeff Olson says, “Here is the amazing thing—and I’ve seen this happen so many times, yet it never ceases to fill me with awe: when you set your goals, life has a way of rearranging itself, a series of events starts in motion that you could never have predicted or planned, to get you there.”

If you want to master your life, don’t attach yourself to outcomes. Slow down in order to achieve more. Ernest Hemingway said it best – “It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.”

4. Stay Hungry

Goals give us a sense of direction, but when life takes a turn, it may mean that your goals have to change with it. Willpower and the motivation to succeed are at their peak during the beginning stages of your journey towards the achievement of any pursuit.

The trick is to stay hungry and keep your momentum flowing. A great way to stay connected to your vision is to adopt a ritual that reminds you of why you set out to achieve a goal in the first place.

Take 5 minutes every day and journal about your goals. When you write your goals down, it’s like planting a seed. If you water that seed every day, you will be amazed at how quickly your dream life can manifest into your reality.

Building a motivation mindset is essential for achieving success in life. Become mindful of doing the very things that will support you in the achievement of your goals. Never forget that your mind is one of the most powerful tools at your disposal for supporting your highest aspirations in life.

Take it from Denise J. Hart, who said, “To get what you want in life you must develop the ability to think in the way that will support your goals and dreams.” When you master your mind, you master your life.

Behaviour never lies. Do you practice what you preach? If you want to be successful in life, your beliefs need to be congruent with your actions. Why is this so important? Because people watch what you do, as much, if not more, than listen to what you say.

The strategies that I teach, share, and explain to people in my online businesses have all been things that I have done or am currently doing in my own life. Mastery isn't just something that I teach. It's something that I live by.

In the words of Paul Wellstone, “Never separate the life you live from the words you speak.” Actions speak louder than words. What do you preach and how do you preach it?

If you follow my YouTube channel or read my blog, you know that I am obsessed with self-development. Not only could I talk about it for hours on end, but I am also committed to mastering every area of my life. When people look at my behaviour and the results that I have achieved in my life, they see that as well.

They get a clear picture of my commitment and sense of character, which inspires people who share similar values, to follow the same path. The ability to align your words with your actions is key to building trust with others. What message are you sending to people through your actions? In what areas of your life could you more effectively practice what you preach?

The success that I have achieved in my online businesses is due, in large part, because I am transparent and results-focused. I don't just talk about my goals; I actually achieve them. People listen to my advice because I have earned their trust and respect. How? I practice what I preach, and I commit to taking massive action in all areas of my life. This was my vision behind creating my new motivational and merchandise brand, Mastery Apparel, which I hope will inspire people to commit their lives to mastery.

My ultimate purpose in life is to grow and to give back to people who need help. My passion for philanthropy is grounded in my purpose in life, which is to grow and to give to others. Fifteen percent of all proceeds from my merchandise brand will be used towards building schools and houses in poverty-stricken neighbourhoods. This is just one example of the many ways that I practice what I preach in my work and in my life.

Do you practice what you preach? When you say something, live it. Talking is great, but taking action is what moves you forward. The secret to creating a business and a life that you love is to be authentic with your true self. Doing so means that you have a clear understanding of your intentions, which then inspires you to take actions that are in alignment with your words.

In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, “It's not fair to ask of others what you are not willing to do yourself.” Practice what you preach. If you do, people will be more likely to take your advice.

I would like to share with you 3 things I'm stopping in my life.  I am committed to mastery in every area of my life. I know that if I remove these 3 success blockers, it will bring me closer to achieving my goals.  When you take massive action, you step into your power.

If you want to achieve success in your life, you need to be aligned with your purpose.  Be honest with yourself.  Are you living a congruent life?  If not, it's time to make a change.  In order to become the best version of yourself, it requires that you remove all distractions and focus your attention on the path that will bring you closer to the life you have always dream of.

In the words of Dr. Wayne Dyer, “When you stay on purpose and refuse to be discouraged by fear, you align with the infinite self, in which all possibilities exist.”

1. Aimless consumption

When you consume your time with technology, and watch other people live their lives, it holds you back from taking action to achieve the goals you aspire to.  I have been guilty of spending hours aimlessly consuming other peoples’ feeds. This isn't enhancing my life in any way.  At times, I come across something that is educational, but oftentimes it’s a distraction from doing the things that help me grow.

I am trying to spend more time away from technology.  I want to be in the real world, where I am able to communicate and connect with people.  That is what I want my life to be about. We get so caught up in the digital world. Technology is there to support my lifestyle, but I don’t want to be defined by it.  It is important that you consume content with a purpose.

2. Saying yes too often

I have come to realize that I say yes too often.  When you do so, you overcommit, and it can overwhelm you. I commit to too many things that aren’t aligned with my ultimate vision.  As part of my morning ritual, every Monday I look at my calendar and I ask myself, “What do I need to cancel or reschedule?” Lately, I spend a lot of time cancelling things.

By saying no, you learn to focus on mastering one or two things, as opposed to over-stretching yourself, which can lead to dabbling.  There may be great opportunities that present themselves, but I need to say no and put the blinders on.  It may offend people, but that’s OK.  I’m not here to please everybody.

Rather, I’m here to serve, share my passion with the world, and make a difference in peoples' lives.  That is what fulfils me the most.  I choose to reserve my valuable time for experiences and people that I love the most.

3. Anything that doesn’t align with my purpose

Anything that takes you away from your purpose is a waste of time.  I refuse to give power to any person or thing that is not in alignment with what I want in my life.  Every choice you make impacts your life in some way.  I don’t want to have any regrets, which is why I am committed to only taking actions that serve my highest self.

These are 3 things I’m stopping in my life. I challenge you to let go of 3 things that no longer serve your life.  Dr. Steve Maraboli said it best – “Pay attention: Are your daily choices in alignment with the life that they want for yourself?  If not, nothing will change.”

Video transcript

I'm going to share with you three things that I commit to stopping and no longer doing in my life. Number one is what I call aimless consumption.  I know you probably know what I'm talking about. This is where you are consuming all the feeds that are out there online – Facebook, Instagram feeds, Twitter, Snapchat, and YouTube. There are a lot of feeds out there these days where you are watching other people live their lives, and it's holding you back from living your own and from taking action to pursue your goals and dreams.

I've been super guilty of this. In some cases, Ive spent hours just aimlessly consuming content from other people. I don't even know who they are. I'm just watching them live their lives, or I'm clicking on links that lead me down this path and that path. I'm thinking to myself, “How does this even benefit me in my life? How is this enhancing my life?” Yeah, maybe once in a while I come across something that's cool, interesting, or funny, or actually educational, but a lot of the times it's aimless and without a purpose.

It's a distraction that is holding me back from taking action in my life and doing the things that I really want to do that will actually progress me even further.  I'm trying to spend more time away from the computer, away from technology, away from my phone and the Internet, and spend more of my life in the real world, offline.  You are away from the screen and you are actually talking to people face–to–face, interacting with them, having a conversation, connecting, exploring the world, having adventures and real experiences in life.

That's what I want my life to be about.  Oftentimes we get caught up in technology. We forget that the Internet is there to support a certain lifestyle that we might desire and just waste my time consuming, that's holding me back from creating. I'm not saying not to consume. I'm saying consuming with a purpose. If I'm going to consume something, I don't want to just aimlessly open up Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat, but actually deciding, “Okay, I'm going to go on Facebook so I can see what this friend is doing in their life and I want to look at their photos.  I want to follow them”, or if I'm on Snapchat, I'm going to unfollow all the people I don't care about that don't enhance my life in any way.  I'm just going to follow that one person that I might look up to one person that actually has some benefit or actually care what's going on in their life.

Or, instead of just aimlessly clicking around on the Internet watching different videos out there, I'm going to be more selective about the information that I consume. I'm going to be more selective and decide that if I'm going to go on YouTube, I'm going to go on it with the purpose of searching for something or browse on Google that favorite person that I know has value and benefit.  Then, I'm going to turn it technology and I'm going to live my life spending more time in the real world and being more strategic about what I consume.  That's the number one thing I'm committing to. The second thing that I'll stop doing is saying yes too often.  I'm going to commit to saying no a lot more than I say yes. I don't know about you, but a lot of times when you say yes to things, you overcommit and it stresses you out. It overwhelms you. I know, for me, there's certain things that I commit to that oftentimes that are not aligned with my purpose and my ultimate vision.

In fact, one ritual that I have every single week on Mondays is I look at my calendar throughout the week and I ask myself, “What is it on this calendar throughout this week that I need to cancel or reschedule?”  I'm spending a lot of time now cancelling things. I may say, “Sorry, I can't make this appointment. I can't make this lunch.” It's not part of my vision and my purpose. It's not the most important thing for me to do. By saying no, you will learn to focus and immerse yourself in what is most important.

You will learn to commit to mastering one thing or a few things, as opposed to overreaching yourself and over-stretching your focus.  This can lead to dabbling in distraction.  It doesn't serve you, so I will be saying no a lot. There may be a great opportunity that comes along, but I don't care. I need to respond with, “I'm focused right now. I'm grinding. I'm hustling towards this one goal, and this one outcome that I have.”  I'm saying no to everything else, I'm putting the blinders on, and narrowing my focus.

This might offend people. Some people that might contact me might not be a part of my plan or might not be able to get a response from me. But you know what? I'm not here to please everybody. I'm here to live my life and serve in the highest possible way that I know how and that I can.  So, I'm going to be saying no a lot more in my life.  I'm going to reserve that my valuable time for people that I love and care about the most – my family, my friends, my girlfriend. That, unfortunately, might mean that I'm going to have to say no to some people. Some people might not like it. That's okay. The third thing that I'm going to commit to stopping and no longer doing is anything that does not align with my purpose and my ultimate vision of what I want for my life.  These might be certain habits, activities, and things that take away from the life that I want.

I'm not going to be giving any power whatsoever to any person or any thing that is not in alignment with the life that I want to live. I guess that kind of fits in with saying no a lot. Even just cutting out certain things so that I can really allow the time that I'm spending in this world to be the most efficient.  I don't want to have any regrets.  Those are the three things I'm committing to stopping in my life.

No more aimless consumption. No more saying yes too often. I'm going to say no a hell of a lot more, and I'm going to no longer do anything that's not aligned with my purpose. Those are my three things. If you've got three things you want to commit to no longer doing, leave a comment below. I would love to hear what they are.
