I’m super excited to interview Eben Pagan, who has made a huge impact in my life.

Eben Pagan is a very successful entrepreneur and investor who has built over 10 businesses and brands, at the million dollar level. He has devoted his life to teaching entrepreneurs how they can be more productive, build and grow businesses, and create wealth for themselves.

He just wrote a brand new book called, Opportunity. This is going to be the focus of our conversation today.

Fourteen years ago I was in a very dark place in my life. I was a shy, introverted teenager, who struggled with social anxiety and depression. I came across a book, called Double Your Dating, that forever changed my life.

That book was written by someone named David DeAngelo, otherwise known as Eben Pagan. The book shares tips on how to attract a beautiful woman into your life.  I read his book 14 times. It opened up my world to new possibilities and opportunities. More importantly, it inspired me to believe in myself.

I’m honored to have a chance to speak with Eben Pagan and about his work and life. This is an interview that you don’t want to miss.

I would not be who I am today if it wasn't for the teachings of Eben Pagan.

Here is a sneak peek of my interview with Eben Pagan, where we talk about his work, his life, and his new cutting-edge book.

Can you share a little bit about yourself and your story? How did you get into the online business world?

My parents were hippies from originally from NYC, but I grew up in the backwoods of Oregon. I was a long-haired rock n roll guitar player, who worked in a metal shop and made jewelry.

I dropped out of college to tour with a rock band. This was my starting point. I was 22 when I finally decided that rock n roll wasn't going to pay the bills.

At my height, I was making $75 a week as a guitar player. I reasoned that rich people seemed to have either made their money in real estate or had their money in real estate. I decided to get my real estate license.

Here I am with my 2-door Camaro, rocking a ponytail and I’m trying to convince people to buy real estate. That didn't work out. I started listening to self-help courses and learned about sales and marketing. Bottom line is that when I discovered direct response marketing, I was sold.

Knocking on people's door or cold calling can be emotionally challenging. When I was in my late 20’s I finally got a good job in real estate.

I had a nice car, a nice apartment on the beach, but girls wouldn't talk to me.

I was going to seminars and reading books. However, most of the content that I learned from the self-development world was very hit and miss. A lot of it felt weird and manipulative. By making friends with diverse guys who really got it, I was able to pick it up.

After a few years, I met an amazing girlfriend. I finally had the confidence that I was looking for. A lot of my friends started asking me to share tips on how they could meet girls. I saw that there was an opportunity there. I took what I learned about dating and marketing, and I launched a book.

It was my first real big success. The book was called, Double Your Dating, which I wrote under the pen name, David Deangelo. I built that business to tens of millions of dollars per year.

In 2008, I created a high-end entrepreneurial course for entrepreneurs who wanted to grow their businesses to the ten million dollar level and beyond.

I've taught tens of thousands of entrepreneurs around the world how to succeed.

I started going to the Burning Man festivals, where I met my wife. We have a daughter who just turned 5. We spend almost 8 months of the year traveling and living in different parts of the world. My wife is a love coach and I have a variety of different virtual businesses.

You’ve created an amazing virtual lifestyle for yourself. Do you mind sharing why you decided to go virtual?

In 2001, I started my first online business in my bedroom with a computer. It really worked for me. I liked having my freedom. Even though I worked a lot, it was exciting. I would roll out of bed in the morning, into my chair and check my stats on my sales.

When I started building my business, I hired my first virtual assistant. He was a friend of mine named, Dean Jackson. He showed me a virtual freelance site called, oDesk. I ended up hiring a woman that came to work with me 20 hours/week for $6/hour.

For $120 I freed up 20 hours of my time so that I could focus on other areas of my business. The second person that I hired is now my business partner for my Double Your Dating business. She's worked with me for over 15 years now.

I wish I could say that there was a master plan for building these big virtual operations, but there wasn’t.

We eventually created a team of 70 full-time virtual workers who lived in different parts of the country and world.

Since then, I've broken my business into different pieces. I've taken on more partners and I have different business units. However, to this day, everyone on my team still works from home, with no office.

In your book, Opportunity, you talk a lot about the mindset that you need to have when it comes to creating new opportunities. What do you see as some of the opportunities that will exist in the online business world in the next 10-20 years?

In the past, if you wanted to start a business and you lived in a small town, that town would be your customer base. For example, when I was giving guitar lessons I had to find people in my local area to give guitar lessons to.

Now, if I want to give guitar lessons, I can go online and find 3.5 million people that are connected to the Internet. More importantly, I can figure out what kind of guitar player I am, what I bring to the guitar, and then I can go find other people that are interested in my style of playing guitar.

If we can get in touch with our unique personality type, then we can create work that we love.

For the last year, I've been writing my new book, and I've put a lot of work into it. I get to talk to you about something that is really interesting to me.

In today's world, we can find things that work for us. We can learn new skills online, and master those skills 100 times faster. Once we develop ourselves, we can use our unique gifts to create value for other people.

Could you share how you define opportunity and why people should be interested in seeking out more opportunities in their lives?

The dictionary defines opportunity as, “a favorable junction of circumstances.” It's an interesting way of thinking about it. That's the connotation that most of us have. It's like walking down the street and finding money on the ground. It just happens.

On Wall Street, an opportunity is thought of as arbitrage, where you can buy something in one market and then sell it in another market. Because this happens instantly, it's like a risk-free profit. Some people think of opportunity like this, where you can just gain some value without having to risk anything. That's a nice way to create opportunity.

The etymology of opportunity is from a Latin word, opportunis.

This word is a metaphor to describe when a ship is sailing and there is wind in its sail. When it was in the harbor, and you could see the port that it was sailing towards, that was when it was in a state of opportunis.

When we can see the outcome, that activates all kind of pre-reward centers inside of us. An opportunity has a powerful effect on us, and I think that by really thinking about what opportunity is, and how it impacts us, we can do much better.

Opportunity is really about potential value. When you are on the lookout for opportunities in every domain of your life, and you realize that you are going to receive so many more options in the future, this can be an enlightening process.

Opportunity is changing very fast. We are moving into a time of exponential change.

I call it the “Great Acceleration.” We are finally at a time where you can see the acceleration of change happening, in real time. In the past, you couldn't really see this.

In today’s world, we get a sense of how fast evolution is changing. The ability to connect to anybody online has created an explosion of opportunity. Think of how many more options you have right now, whether that's places to eat, places to travel, entertaining things to watch, people to meet, or education to receive.

Each of those, in a way, is an opportunity. When you start combining and connecting these things together with what you are uniquely good at, it makes for a huge explosion of opportunity. This will only get bigger as we move into the future.

The next 5-10 years will be extraordinary.

A lot of people can have opportunities available to them, but not everyone will take advantage of them. What do you think are the biggest obstacles that prevent people from taking action?

Inside of my book, I dedicate a good chunk to talking about emotions. I think that, in a lot of cases, it's our emotions that get in our way. Emotions like fear, envy, or jealousy are running the show. When they come up, they put us into a state where we can only think about how we can avoid something going wrong.

As an example, I recommend to never make a decision about an opportunity when you are in fear. You can't do anything from this place. It actually shuts down the executive center in your brain and you stop thinking strategically. You can't be in your highest self and think long-term or consequentially.

Rather, you are just thinking about preventing loss. If you are making decisions to prevent loss, you are usually cutting yourself off from a lot of opportunities in the future.

You need to learn how to manage your emotions.

If you find yourself in fear or overwhelm, or what I call “opportunity shock”, don’t make a decision until you can see reality a bit more clearly.

Do you have a process that you use in order to evaluate the different opportunities that are being presented to you?

I have basic life values that are important to me, like energy, a feeling satisfaction, being in my purpose, or lifelong learning. When you are clear about what your values are and what is important to you, then opportunities start to make sense. It adds context to the opportunity.

If you are just looking at an opportunity in isolation, but you aren't asking yourself if it fulfills the important values that you have in your life, it's easy to make a decision based on the wrong criteria.

Warren Buffett says that the most important criteria when you are making a decision about an investment are the opportunity cost. This is all the other opportunities that you aren't taking advantage of.

When most people are thinking about making an investment, I can tell that it’s not being compared to 3-4 other possible ways to use that time, effort, energy and money.

There is no context for it. There is no good decision to be made. It's either a yes or a no. When you know your values and what the other opportunities are, then you can make a better decision.

I'll give you a technique that I share in my book.

A big challenge that many of us face is when we have opportunities that are in different realms that we have to make a decision about. Making a decision between 2-3 investments is relatively easy. You can use a mental model that I suggest in my book in order to determine what the payoff will be of an opportunity.

However, those aren't as interesting to me as are the moments when I'm sitting in my office and I’m getting a big download about something that is really important.

All of a sudden, I hear the pitter-patter of feet and my 4-year old daughter walks up behind me and says, “Dad, I'm hungry.” All of a sudden I've got a hungry daughter, but I'm in the middle of an aha moment.

How do you decide at that moment which of those things you are supposed to be doing?

I recommend that you come up with a universal internal currency that you can use to compare opportunities to each other. This is important particularly in different domains, like the go play sports with friends versus going on a date with a potential partner.

The model is asking, “Which choice is going to allow me to grow the most in my life and lead me to become the actualized version of myself?” If you look at Maslow’s pyramid, he’s got self-actualization at the top. This is you becoming the most that you can become.

If you look at an acorn, what is an actualized acorn? It’s an oak tree. If you are an acorn right now, what does your life look like when you are an oak tree?

The more clear you can get about what your real potential is, the more you can think from that perspective, the better you get at choosing which opportunities are going to fulfill you the most.

Too many people are making decisions solely about money and are neglecting the other parts of their lives. I call this “holistic actualization points” or HAPS. Ask yourself, “How many HAPS, on a scale of 1-10, will this thing contribute to me becoming the best version of myself?”

Now you've got a framework where you can say, “This is a 3, that's a 4, and this is a 9.” Now you know where your biggest opportunity lies.

When you do the things that are not in your typical strength domain, try working on those areas and they will multiply your feeling of success.

For example, let’s say that you are really successful financially, but your health is not well. Life sucks when you are rich but don’t feel good. Look to holistic actualization points that are going to grow you in some way and make you who you desire to become.

Don't just take up a business opportunity because it's going to make you money. Go for the one that is going to expand you as a person.

From my observations of your teachings over the years it appears that you have achieved a really strong sense of balance in your life. What is the mindset that you adopt when it comes to actualizing different areas of your life?

There is a pragmatic element to it, which is that the more I work on each of the key pieces of my life, the better I feel about myself as a person. They are very synergistic.

The Pareto principle is one of the most well-known mental models out there.

It says that 80% of your results come from 20% of your effort. If you go to an area of your life where you're not paying attention and give a little bit to it, all of sudden it works a lot better. Even if you just get the minimum, it makes such a huge difference. That 20% is so important.

I’m a big believer in morning rituals because they allow me to be at my best every day. What are some of the rituals that you practice?

Things have changed since I've become a father. I used to wake up and my first 90 minutes was all about me, whether that was exercising, practicing meditation, or making my green shake. However, now I've got a daughter.

My wife and I created an evening ritual where we all go to sleep as a family, and then we typically wake up in the morning together. Because there is another level of value in my life, now it’s more about family and getting in my green shake. Those are my anchor points.

I'm about to create a new course that is the next level of my original one, Wake Up Productive. In this course, I talk about super-habits, which involves learning how to create rituals and habits for yourself every day.

As you evolve in life and go through different types of changes, you have to move them around and put them into different parts of your day.

For myself, exercise takes place later in the day. However, because I've wired it into my daily ritual, I can move it around much easier. The next level is about taking the habits that you've created, reordering them and creating energy cycles, where you do 3-4 of them in a row. This creates double productivity, where they multiply.

Recently, I've been reading Daniel Pink’s book, When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing. He points out that the most really high-performers take a natural break in the afternoon for about 2 hours. From 3:30-5: 30 pm is my time. I've been trying to systematically drop that in.

Work hard, kick some butt in the first part of the day when I've got a lot of energy, and then unplug and not do anything for a few hours. After that, my energy increases around 5:30 and I have another couple of hours to work on something. In the long run, I think this is going to be a big piece of the equation.

Can you share more about your book, Opportunity?

After 20 years of studying and getting to know hundreds of millionaires and billionaires, it all came together for me. I was thinking about this idea a few years ago.

I realized that what they all had in common was that they were better at finding and creating opportunities. That was the common denominator of success.

Opportunity is the heart of successful entrepreneurship.

Great entrepreneurs and investors can spot the opportunities. From there, I realized that opportunity is going to be exploding for everyone. I'm meeting people that have so many opportunities, but they are shut down and they feel like they don't have any.

I started writing out some of my ideas about how to find and create opportunity. Over the last year, I've written this book and tried to take everything that I've learned about success and how to manage opportunity in life.

I've worked really hard. I haven't invested in something like this in a long time. I teach what opportunity is, where it is, how it's changing, mindsets, frameworks for thinking about it, mental models for choosing opportunities, how to choose the best one, and how to scale up opportunities.

In the last chapter, I give you a homework assignment where you go and discover your own greatest personal opportunity in your life. While we are doing our launch, we are giving the book away for free. All you have to do is pay for shipping.

Business coaching for entrepreneurs is the secret to accelerating success.

Before I dive into “the why” I want to start off by saying that, if you've made the jump from employee to entrepreneur, congrats! Starting a business is an exciting time, but entrepreneurship is a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows. In order to navigate the bumpy terrain, you need guidance.

In walks business coaching for entrepreneurs. A business coach is someone who can help you get through the challenging times and keep you on track. Oftentimes, a lot of entrepreneurs start their businesses blindly and try to learn as they go along.

However, if you want to leverage your success and not waste precious time and money, you need to think smart. Many entrepreneurs, including myself, attribute their success to the help of a business coach.

Are you ready to grow your business and make the leap from where you currently are, to where you desire to be? If so, it may be time to hire a business coach.

If you are reading this, you may be thinking, “What does business coaching for entrepreneurs involve?”

A lot of people misinterpret what a business coach does. A business coach is not someone who does the work for you. Rather, they are in your corner, acting as your cheerleader. Like a sports coach, they ‘keep you in the game', and are there to motivate and keep you focused on achieving your goals.

As an entrepreneur, you may think that you already know everything, but this just isn't true. The three most dangerous words in the human vocabulary are “I know that.” These words hold a lot of entrepreneurs back from business success. Yes, you may have specific talents that have allowed you to be deemed an authority figure in your industry, but oftentimes, entrepreneurial skills are things that you learn along the way.

A recent report by Infusionsoft and Emergent Research, Defining and Achieving Small Business Success, found that the vast majority (94 percent) of small business owners surveyed identify specific financial goals for their business, and yet only 65 percent are confident that they will achieve them.

Today's business world can be a tough place, which is why business coaching for entrepreneurs has become so important. Everything changes at the speed of light, including business strategies and techniques. What works today may not work tomorrow, which is why you need to be constantly updating your knowledge and learning in order to stay at the top of your game.

If you aren't committed to personal growth and development, you will get left behind. In the words of Louise Penny, “Life is change. If you aren't growing and evolving, you're standing still, and the rest of the world is surging ahead.”

Every entrepreneur needs help from time-to-time. Even the most successful people in the world seek out help when they don't know the answer to something. Being resourceful is a key success trait. If you are resistant to getting a business coach, ask yourself, “Is my ego getting in the way of my business moving forward?” If so, it's time to drop that story.

The fact of the matter is that you will never know how successful you can really be until you find a business coach that pushes you to take risks and step outside of your comfort zone. If you want to stay competitive in the thick of never-ending growth and change, don’t be afraid to ask for help from a business coach, who has been where you want to go. This is why business coaching for entrepreneurs is so important.

Now that you know what a business coach is, the question remains, “How do you know when you need a one?” The red flag is usually the point at which you say to yourself or someone else, “I don't know what I'm doing.”

Here are 5 reasons why business coaching for entrepreneurs is so powerful, and why you may need it.

1. You Are Burned Out

Here's a brutal fact – if you are unable to cope with the constant feeling of overwhelm that comes with being an entrepreneur, you are going to burnout and you won't be able to sustain your business, long-term. As an entrepreneur, you are the face of your business and brand, which means that you have to juggle a lot of different hats.

Nobody can do it all. It's not possible, or if it is, it's a surefire way to burn the candle at both ends.

The American Psychological Association’s David Ballard describes job burnout as “an extended period of time where someone experiences exhaustion and a lack of interest in things, resulting in a decline in their job performance.”

Have you ever experienced this state? It's horrible, but it can be prevented, and it starts with accepting that you can't do it all. This is one of the biggest reasons why you need to think about investing in a business coach.

Business coaching for entrepreneurs helps take the overwhelming out of entrepreneurship. When you feel like giving up, a business coach is there to listen and provide you with the strategies that you need to follow, in order to get past your stuck points and take your business to the next level.

2. You Want To Save Time & Money

When you are an entrepreneur, there never feels like there is enough time in the day to accomplish everything. You need to step back and ask yourself, “How much is my time worth?”

A big thing that holds a lot of entrepreneurs back from hiring a business coach is the cost. Some people drop into scarcity mode and think to themselves, “I'll just brave it on my own.” Sure, you could take this route, but it will take you a hell of a lot longer to get to where you want to be.

Not to mention, if you make too many mistakes along the way, you may never achieve your goals. Not hiring a business coach will end up costing you a lot more money and time, which can be avoided if you choose to work with one.

3. You Need An Accountability Partner

We all need to be held accountable from time to time. When it comes to running a business, if you aren't following through on your goals, you aren't making money. Business coaching for entrepreneurs is all about accountability. When you are accountable to others, you are more likely to follow-through on what it is that you say you will do.

Conversely, when you don't have someone checking up on you, it is easy to make excuses. This is something that a lot of entrepreneurs struggle with. When you are an employee, if you don't show up to work and accomplish what it is that your boss tells you to do, you will most likely get fired.

However, when you are an entrepreneur it's all on you. It requires strict discipline, time management, and persistence to stay on track and be accountable to yourself.

One of the most important roles of a business coach is to be an accountability partner; they help you grow your business by clarifying what your vision and purpose are, and how they align with your goals.

Linda Galindo, the author of the book, The 85% Solution: How Personal Accountability Guarantees Success, says that “Accountability partners are an entrepreneur's secret weapon for quick growth”. If you want to grow your business faster, a business coach is a way to go.

4. You Are Lacking In Self-Confidence

We all struggle with confidence at certain times in our lives. Even the most successful entrepreneurs have days when their confidence wanes. When you are running your own business, your self-belief is constantly being tested because there are so many moving parts.

Oftentimes, entrepreneurs will get discouraged when they don't know how to do something, thinking that this is proof that they don't have what it takes.

If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, you need to embrace failure and have an unshakeable belief in your ability to succeed, no matter what life throws at you. If you lack confidence in yourself and your business, how do you expect your customers to believe in you?

Confidence comes and goes. If you want to master your business, you need to commit to developing and constantly improving it.

A business coach for entrepreneurs is someone who instills confidence in you and gives you the space that you need in order to explore who you are, how you want to show up in your business, and what success means to you. Even if you have a strong sense of self, sometimes you need to someone to light a fire under your butt in order to convince you that you CAN accomplish your business goals.

A business coach shows you what you are capable of achieving, by inspiring you to step outside of your comfort zone and do the thing you think you cannot do. Sometimes all you need is a little push in the right direction.

5. You Aren't Getting Results

If you aren't getting the results that you desire in your business, then that probably means that you aren't seeing a high ROI. Sometimes the vision that we have for our business doesn't always lead us in the right direction. It doesn't mean that it's the wrong one. Rather, it may just mean that we are slightly off course and need to be re-directed on the right path.

When we are in our own heads, it can be hard to look at our business model from an objective point of view. A business coach is someone who can help to remove the setbacks that are preventing us from achieving the results that we desire.

At the end of the day, success in any business is determined by the results that you get, so if you aren't getting them, it's time to think about seeking help. Bob Nardelli, the CEO of Home Depot said it best, “I absolutely believe that people, unless coached, never reach their maximum capabilities.”

Business coaching for entrepreneurs has become a “must” in today's ever-changing world.

No matter what state your business is at, a business coach can accelerate your growth and help you achieve your goals at a much quicker pace. When I first started my online business, even though I couldn't afford a business coach, I found the money and did whatever I could in order to learn from them.

It was one of the best decisions I ever made. What I learned gave me the confidence I needed to know I could do anything and I was on the right track.

Business coaching for entrepreneurs is the secret to accelerating success. It takes a lot of the stress out of entrepreneurship. In reality, if you aspire to be a successful entrepreneur, or want to be a coach of your own one day, a business coach is someone that you cannot afford to live without.

Learn from the best and invest in yourself. It could be one of the best decisions you ever make. Every top performer in the world has a coach, so why don't you?

In today's ever-changing world, if you don't develop a growth mindset, you will get left behind.

Your mindset is the driving force behind every decision that you make. At the end of the day, it determines your success or your failure in business. In her book, Mindset: The New Psychology for Success, Stanford psychology professor Carol Dweck explains that “The attitude we bring to our daily activities can play a large role in shaping and extending the ways we utilize our innate talents.”

People with a growth mindset believe that their intelligence can be developed through hard work. They possess a passionate love of learning and view failure as a gift. In contrast, people with a fixed mindset believe their intelligence is fixed, that mistakes are signs of failure, and that talent, void of effort, is what creates success.

Which mindset do you adopt? If you are trapped in a fixed mindset, now is the time to change it! Entrepreneurial success demands that you do so.

Do you have a fixed or a growth mindset?

Some people believe that if you grow up with a fixed mindset, you can't ever change it. Science is proving that it is possible to change a person's mindset from fixed to growth. Research on brain plasticity has shown how connectivity between neurons can change with experience. The good news is that, if you believe that your brain can grow, you will behave differently!

If your business isn't thriving, it could be that your mindset needs an upgrade. Entrepreneurship can be a roller coaster ride of highs and lows, so if you are afraid of speed, you need to re-think whether or not this is the ride for you. As an entrepreneur, if you aren't growing, you're dying. This is equally true in business, as it is in any area of life.

The practice of entrepreneurship requires a specific type of mindset, one that focuses on innovation, possibility and a commitment to personal growth and development.

Let's explore 6 ways to develop a growth mindset.

1. Commit to Continuous Learning

We've been conditioned by our education system to believe that once we finish school, our learning days no longer exist. Think again. If you want to become a successful entrepreneur, you need to commit to lifelong learning and create daily habits that expand your mind. This is an integral part of developing a growth mindset.

It's easy to fall into the trap of, “I don't know how to do that because it's not a skill of mine”, but that's far from the truth. Do you know how many business skills I had to learn from scratch, with no previous experience? I knew that if I wanted to succeed, I needed to take control of my learning, and do it well.

Our intelligence is not fixed. Rather, it is ever-expanding, if we choose to see it that way. If you act as if you know everything and make choices based on your assumptions and judgments, you won't be receptive to the world of opportunities that lie in front of you.

I encourage you to attend seminars and events, read books, take part in training programs, listen to podcasts, or find a mentor or coach who can help you apply what you learn. Learning is great, but if you don't do anything with it, it's a waste of time. This is what people with a growth mindset do.

Successful entrepreneurs commit to developing their knowledge, skills, and abilities. Rather than dabbling, they make daily growth one of their top priorities. If you follow their lead, you will have a strong competitive edge that will allow you to thrive in life and business.

2. Transform Problems Into Possibilities

A lot of people react to problems in a negative way, but the key to success is to accept that problems are a normal part of life. When it comes to running a business, expect an onslaught of daily challenges to arise. It's all part of the process. The fact of the matter is that we don't have control over the outside world. The only thing that we have control over is how we respond.

All successful entrepreneurs have one thing in common – an optimistic mindset that enables them to transform their problems into possibilities. When bad things happen, they don't panic or get reactive. Rather, they look for ways to grow, improve, and adapt in a way that leaves them feeling more knowledgeable than before.

A study by positive psychology researcher Barbara Fredrickson found that positive emotions broaden your sense of possibilities, which in turn allows you to build new skills that can provide value in other areas of your life. If you can train your mind to see the light at the end of every dark tunnel, not only will you be less stressed but you will also be able to more effectively master change.

We can't always see it in the moment, but oftentimes a problem can send you down a better road. Einstein said it best – “In the middle of difficulty, lies opportunity.” The next time that something bad happens, ask yourself how you can transform it into an asset that can serve both yourself and your business.

3. Be Open To Feedback

People that refuse to accept feedback have a fixed mindset. Because they see their intelligence as unchangeable, they are resistant to growth or improvement of any kind. The fact of the matter is that anyone that isn't on board with change is falling behind.

The sole purpose of feedback is so that we can get better at what we do. When it comes to running a business, customer feedback is essential. There is nothing more helpful to an entrepreneur than knowing what is working and what isn't working in their business. Entrepreneurial success demands that you see feedback as an opportunity to improve your skills so that you can become a better leader.

At the end of the day, feedback from others is a great opportunity to reflect and learn. This will allow you to improve your performance, thereby propelling you forward at a faster pace. If used correctly, feedback can be one of your most valuable tools. Take it from Ken Blanchard – “Feedback is the breakfast of champions.”

4. Cultivate Resilience

Resilience is the key ingredient for developing a growth mindset. It is what differentiates those who succeed from those who fail. When you sign up to be an entrepreneur, you need to be prepared for hardship, because setbacks are a part of the package. There are a lot of bumps along the way, and your success will be determined by your ability to navigate those terrains. I have yet to meet an entrepreneur who hasn't experienced growing pains along their journey to success.

When life knocks you down, how fast are you able to bounce back and keep moving forward? Resilient entrepreneurs know how to stay calm and cool in the face of unexpected obstacles. They never stop persevering, despite the odds that are stacked against them. In essence, their “bouncebackability” is strong, which gives them an edge in the business world.

Resilience is a trait that can be developed through experience. I believe that it is something that every entrepreneur has the power to cultivate. It gives you the competitive advantage that is needed in today's ever-changing business world.

In the words of Amy Carmichael, “Let us not be surprised when we have to face difficulties. When the wind blows hard on a tree, the roots stretch and grow stronger. Let it be so with us. Let us not be weaklings, yielding to every wind that blows, but strong in spirit to resist.” Are you ready to start flexing your resilience muscles?

5. Fail More

As much as it hurts, failure is a necessary part of life. Nobody likes to fail, but if you want to achieve massive success in life, I encourage you to fail more often. I hate to break it to you, but if you aren't failing enough, you are doing yourself a disservice and actually minimizing your chances for success. I know this may sound counterintuitive, but it's true.

People who possess a growth mindset embrace failure. I've failed hundreds of times. I can’t say that I love it, but through the process of it, I have learned some of my most valuable lessons in life that have allowed me to take my business to the next level. Not sold yet? Let me explain.

The road to entrepreneurial success is paved with a lot of windy and uneven forks in the road. If you want to reach your full potential, you need to step outside of your comfort zone and be fearless in the face of failure. Failure is proof that you are trying. It all comes down to your mindset.

Instead of viewing failure as a bad thing, approach it as a healthy part of life. Mistakes help us clarify what works and what doesn't work. A wealth of scientific research suggests that mistakes actually make us smarter and results in a higher rate of learning. This proves that failure is more than okay. It's great!

The most epic accomplishments in life are often the most difficult. They require that we fight with every inch of our heart and soul and that we are willing to risk it all, just for the chance to achieve our dreams. The next time that you try something new, be open to failing. You may surprise yourself how many valuable lessons come from the act of failure.

6. Fall In Love With The Process

On the road to entrepreneurial success sometimes people can get so caught up in the end result that they forget to fall in love with the process. The process is where the real growth occurs. If your only end goal in your business is to make money, you won't get far. People with a growth mindset wake up every day and feel passionate about what they are doing. They let the results speak for themselves.

It's who you become in the process of achieving your goals that matters most. Do you have the desire to do the things that other people won't? Entrepreneurship requires that you constantly sacrifice comfort for the opportunity to grow. In reality, this is how we become better at doing anything in life. I encourage you to discover your greatness, through trial and error, and put in the hard work to get to where you want to go in life!

A growth mindset is the secret sauce of entrepreneurial success.

Success requires that we adopt a growth mindset; that we constantly grow, expand, and evolve. The world is filled with amazing opportunities, but only if you are open to seeing them. Never doubt the power of your mind. You can either believe that your qualities are fixed, or you can seek out challenges and learn how to thrive through them, stretching yourself in the process. The choice is yours.

In the words of Carol Dweck, “Becoming is better than being.” Are you ready to become more and unleash the potential that resides within you?

Entrepreneurial success isn't for the faint of heart. Many people dream of becoming an entrepreneur, but question whether or not they have what it takes to be successful.

Not all entrepreneurs are the same. There isn't a magical blueprint for entrepreneurial success, but there is one thing that is consistent amongst all successful entrepreneurs – they share personality traits that set them up to win.  The good news is that any trait can be learned and mastered, with practice.

Through hard work, commitment, and persistence, you can become a successful entrepreneur. It all starts with you. In the words of Arthur Ashe, “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”

Are you ready to learn what it takes to achieve entrepreneurial success?

Are you ready to achieve entrepreneurial success?

Successful entrepreneurs stand out from the rest. Think of some of the most successful names in business – Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Elon Musk. If you put a group of them in a room together you would find that they share similar traits with one another.

Luckily, the traits that successful entrepreneurs share are ones that can be developed, over time. Let's explore 4 traits of entrepreneurial success:

1. Grit

Successful entrepreneurs possess grit; otherwise known as the sheer determination to keep moving forward, no matter how many times you get knocked down.

In her book, Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, Angela Duckworth determines that grit is what separates those that are successful from those who fail. If you tend to be a dabbler and quit when things get tough, the business world will chew you up and spit you out.

It is fair to say that grit is a tool for entrepreneurial success. If you can learn how to transform failure into opportunities for growth, you will be able to conquer any challenge that comes your way.

2. Passion

Have you ever wondered why it is that people like Bill Gates continue to work an insane amount of hours, despite not having to ever work a day in their lives? It's called passion.

According to research conducted by Tony Tjan and co-authors Richard Harrington and Tsun-Yan Hsieh, 65% of founders have been identified as driven by “heart.”

Being an entrepreneur is hard work. If you don't love what you do, you won't succeed, which is why you need to be motivated by an intrinsic desire to achieve your goals.

3. Self-Confidence

As an entrepreneur, it is easy to feel frustrated, defeated, or doubtful from time to time. However, an essential quality of all successful entrepreneurs is that they have an unwavering confidence in their abilities. They do not question whether or not they are worthy of success. They know that they will achieve success, no matter what.

As a business owner, you are the face of your brand. If you aren't confident in your ideas and capabilities, how do you expect others to believe in you? In the words of Samuel Johnson, “Self-confidence is the first requisite to great undertakings.”

4. Vision

If you don't have a roadmap for where you want to go, how do you expect to ever reach your destination? Successful entrepreneurs are motivated by a strong and clear vision that guides all of their decisions. They know who they are, what they want to do, and where they want to go.

What is your vision for your business and your life? If you have yet to write a vision statement, I encourage you to do so. When you have a strong sense of what it is that you want to achieve in life, it will become crystal clear what actions you will need to take in order to achieve your goals.

While not a guarantee for success, possessing these 4 traits will give you a competitive advantage in the business world.

Do you have what it takes to achieve entrepreneurial success?

The best way to figure it out is by taking action and committing to self-development. The path of an entrepreneur isn’t easy, but it brings with it amazing opportunities if you are prepared and develop the qualities that are necessary for success.

Richard Branson said it best – “Successful entrepreneurs don't wait for the perfect moment – they create it.” What are you waiting for? Entrepreneurial success is yours for the taking!

The post 3 Reasons Why You Need A Business Plan appeared first on Project Life Mastery.

Do you want to know 3 reasons why you need a business plan? A business plan is your blueprint for business success. Starting a business without one is like building a house with no materials. It just doesn't work.

Unfortunately a lot of entrepreneurs shy away from writing a business plan because the idea of planning so far in advance creates anxiety, but it doesn't have to.

Studies have shown that while completing a business plan is not a guarantee of success, it does indicate that the type of entrepreneur who completes one is also more likely to run a successful business.

In the words of Alan Leiken, “Planning is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now.”

Do you want to learn how to create a compelling business plan? CLICK HERE to join my Online Business Mastery Accelerator program!

Here are 3 reasons why you need a business plan.

1. Helps You Create A Sense of Clarity

The purpose of a business plan is to create a sense of clarity with regards to the long-term objectives of your business.

When we are unclear about the vision, purpose, and goals of our business, we are left floundering. You can't expect to achieve success if you don't have a plan for getting there.

Do you get in your car without knowing where it is that you are going? Probably not.

Think of a business plan as if it were a roadmap for your success. It helps you analyze and determine how you will set your business up, where you are going, and how long it will take to get there.

2. Helps You Manage Your Cashflow

The ability to manage cashflow is one of the most important components of entrepreneurial success. Without cash, your business won't survive. Philip Campbell, the author of Never Run Out of Cash, says that, “Poor cashflow management is causing more business failures today than ever before.”

Having a business plan will help you better manage your costs, sales, and business expenses. Not only that, but it will allow you to make financial projections for the future of your business.

3. Helps You Map Your Future Success

A good business plan helps entrepreneurs create a roadmap for achieving their goals. Without a solid plan, how do you expect to get to where you want to go?

Putting your long-term vision on paper allows you to better understand your business and the specific courses of action that you need to take.

This is a great opportunity to ask yourself the important questions that need answering, early on, so that you can create the momentum that you need now and into the future.

As Jeff Hoffman, co-author of, SCALE: 7 Proven Principles to Grow Your Business and Get Your Life Back, likes to say, “Your business plan is more about the questions you ask and get yourself to struggle with, than it is about finding the ‘right’ answer.”

These are 3 reasons why you need a business plan. Every entrepreneur needs one. If you haven't written one already, I encourage you to do so. It is the first real step on your journey to long-term business success.

Here is a sneak peak of some of our answers to your burning questions:

For those who don't know, can you share with us a little bit about Amazing Selling Machine?

Most training out there is just giving you information. At the end of the day, all that we care about is that you actually build a successful online brand, meaning one that is producing consistent, positive cashflow every single month. In order to make that happen, there are four components of our program.

Component #1 is the foundation, which is an 8-week online web-class, which walks you through knowing virtually nothing about selling on Amazon to being an expert by the time that you finish the training. It may not happen with the first 8 weeks, but by the time you have gone through all of modules, you will gave built a successful business. The beauty of it is that you can watch it whenever you want.

Component #2 is what we call the ASM mentors, which are people that have been successful in their businesses that are in the community, helping members out, every single day, on a one-on-one basis. Component #3 is comprised of the community itself. In my opinion, this is one of the best groups for Amazon sellers out there, because it is comprised of all the people who have been through the same experience, which is ASM.

Component #4 is what we call the private resource vault, which includes a lot of amazing tools and software, and our personal contacts. These resources alone are worth over $10,000.

Who is the ASM for and who is it not for?

This is for people that want to build a solid, long-term online business. That is why we have members who have built and sold their businesses for millions of dollars. We want people to take our program that have a desire to dig in, work hard, stay committed and not give up. This is not for people that are looking to get rich quick. This is a business that takes time to build. At the end of the day, one of the key ingredients of success is being able to push through the challenges that will occur.

For those people who cannot afford your course right now, what would you advise they do?

I think that there are two kinds of people that can be really successful in this business. There are those that have already had success in some other area, so making money isn't an issue. The other people are hungry, and they just really want to make something work, like the success story of the Romanian couple, Peter and Adina. You have to decide how hungry you are. I've been in a situation before where my back was up against the wall. I was building my first business, it was producing a lot of revenue, but my profits were horrible. I had $100,000 worth of credit card debt, and I had to find a way to make it work. It all depends on what your level of motivation is.

What are your thoughts regarding people who say that the Amazon opportunity is too competitive?

Obviously I do not agree and I can share a lot of different points of data to support my argument. Currently, Amazon has the highest market cap in history, this year, Jeff Bezos became the richest man on the planet, and recently, Amazon had their biggest single sales day ever, where sales grew by more than 60%.

All of this is showing you that Amazon is at its prime right now, and I think that it's just getting started. If you compare their year after year growth, it's about 25%, which means that this year they will do $170 billion in sales, whereas last year they did “only” $130 billion in sales. This is massive growth for a company of this size. It's nearly unheard of. It's not unreasonable to think that in the next 3-5 years they will be doing $500 billion, per year in revenue. By you doing nothing else than other using their platform in order to launch products, your business can double over that time period, simply by riding the wave of Amazon.

What are the pitfalls that people need to avoid when starting an online business?

Two mistakes come to mind that Amazon sellers make that are closely related to one another, which are, not picking a product and picking the wrong product. People get hit with analysis paralysis and start spinning their wheels. I recommend that you push through it.

Secondly, when people have an idea in their head, they force the opportunity on Amazon, and it almost always ends in disaster. You need to be rational and strict about making sure that the opportunity meets the criteria. Lastly, some people give up and don't push through when they hit a roadblock, which is impossible to do when you go through our program, because we have live coaching calls, and mentors, who are there to answer all of your questions and concerns.

I hope we were able to answer some of your questions about the ASM course and selling on Amazon. I am a firm believer that the best way to accelerate the learning process is by investing in a high-quality training program, like ASM, that guides you, step-by-step, through the process.

Investing in yourself is one of the smartest investments you will ever make. This is your opportunity to learn from the best and start your online business

For those of you who follow me, you may know that the Amazing Selling Machine (ASM) is opening its their doors again! ASM is the #1 online training course that teaches you how to build a profitable business selling on Amazon. Both Tatiana and I recommend this course. It has changed our lives and it can do the same for you.

Here is a sneak peak of some of our answers to your burning questions:

How do you find manufacturers and/or suppliers for products, and how do you get samples?

You can either go to Google and search for suppliers, by typing in the keyword of the product that you are trying to produce, specify the area where you want to produce the product, and then once you get a list of suppliers, you can go ahead and email them. Alternatively, if you are sourcing overseas, especially China, I suggest that you go to Alibaba, type in your keyword and you will get a large list of manufacturers who you can contact.

These manufacturers have already been rated and reviewed by Alibaba. Look at the ones that have badges; this will tell you how long they've been selling on Alibaba. I suggest that you contact a lot of manufacturers. Collect 5-10 of the best ones (those that respond the quickest are preferred), and then get samples from them.

How much money do I need to start selling on Amazon?

Any business that you start will require some investment at the onset. one of the first things that we recommend for anyone that is interested in selling on Amazon is to find a high-quality training program that can help guide you, step-by-step, through the process to building your online business.

This is a business where you will get stuck and need answers. There are a lot of logistics involved in this business. Because you are investing inventory into it, you need to be armed with the right knowledge so that you don't end up wasting time and money. You can make some crucial mistakes if you don't know what you are doing. ASM is, by far, the best. Save your money, get an extra job, and make sure that you are financially ready to dive into this online business.

Don't treat this as a hobby. It's a business, so you need to take it seriously. You will need money to invest into your inventory, which will depend on the product that you want to sell. Tatiana started with less than $300 for her first product, however, I think that a $1000 is a good starting amount. You need to think about inventory, marketing, and shipping costs. The more money that you can invest into your Amazon business, the more that you can accelerate the process towards building it.

What are the legal aspects of branding? Do you need to register your brand as a trademark?

Eventually, you are going to want to protect your brand and your business. When you are first starting out, there isn't much to protect because it doesn't have value yet. However, once you start building your brand, you want to trademark it in the U.S. There are ways to do it yourself, or you can hire a trademark attorney, which is costly. One of the bonuses that I share is my process of how you can trademark your business yourself, inexpensively.

Should I start my business as a sole proprietor or as an LLC designation?

Given that Tatiana and I live in Canada, we don't have an LLC. That is more something that is done more in the U.S. This is a question to ask your accountant. We both started our Amazon businesses as sole proprietors, meaning that we set up our Amazon accounts in our own names, and receive all payments to our personal bank accounts. At the end of the year, we file our tax returns and it shows up as our self-employment income. However, in some cases, you might want to set up an LLC from the start. That is going to be based on liability and your personal tax situation.

When were you able to leave your job and solely devote your time to building your online business?

Don't rush into this business thinking that you can quit your job right away. Your job is important, in that you want to make sure that any money that you make from your Amazon business you are investing it back into your business.

If you quit your job and rely solely on having an income from your online business right away, this means that you will have less money to invest in inventory, marketing, branding etc. I would recommend that you keep your job for as long you can, grow your brand, and then once it's doing relatively well, and you can pay yourself an equal or higher salary than what you are currently making at your job, then quit.

Does ASM allow you to skip through the training modules?

ASM is an 8-week training program. Each module is released on a weekly basis because there's a large live training component to it. You won't be able to jump into other modules right out of the gate, because they have a certain structure with regards to how they teach the program. However, once the modules have been released, you have lifetime access to them, so at that point, you can go back through the modules at your leisure. Also, whenever ASM creates a new training program, as a member, you immediately gain access to that new training as well.

How do you grow your Instagram following?

Amazon is a great place to start building your online business, but one thing that we both recommend, as well as does ASM, is that you build a brand. Keep in mind that you aren't building an Amazon business. Rather, you are building a physical products brand.

A lot of people launch a product on Amazon and expect that Amazon will do everything for them. However, if you want to be successful over the long-term, you need to build your brand outside of Amazon, and learn how to do your own marketing, through social media, blogging, etc. In doing so, it will allow you to send traffic from all of these different places to your Amazon listing.

In addition to this, you are also going to eventually want to sell your product(s) outside of Amazon, like on your own e-commerce website or on Shopify. Build a diversified business that doesn't depend on Amazon. You need to really understand marketing because it's the most important thing, which is where training is helpful. You can have the best product out there, but if nobody knows about it, you won't make money.

Should I still buy ASM even though I don't have a product idea yet?

Yes. ASM is designed for those that just want to get started building an Amazon business. In the early modules of ASM, they teach you how to come up with product ideas. They have a process that has been proven to help thousands of people find profitable products. When you join the ASM, part of the bonuses that I provide to you involves access to a list of 100 that I've vetted and reviewed, that are profitable products that you can sell on Amazon. You can send me up to 10 products and I will help you pick the best one for you.

That is it for our live stream, starting your online business with Amazon Q&A with Stefan & Tatiana! We hope that we have provided you with some insightful, cutting-edge information that will support you in starting your online business selling on Amazon.

Here is a sneak peak of my interview with Angie Chacon:

When did you join the ASM, and can you share with us your journey since then?

Two and a half years ago I started ASM. During that time, I was broke, I had just gone through a divorce, and I was starting over, while supporting four kids. I found the ASM and I had friends who were doing it at the time. I saw it as an opportunity. I had a product idea and brand in mind, so I went that route and like most people, the beginning was rocky. At first, I picked the wrong product, but it allowed me to go through the motions and learn what worked and what didn’t work. It put the system in place so that after a month or two, I started looking at launching a second product. Consistency is key. There was no option for me to quit. My next product did well, so a month later I launched another one, and so on. At the time, I found that the magic number was having three products running at the same time. I had to be strategic and clever with how I started because I had no cash flow or credit. I was starting on a shoestring budget. It was challenging, but I just did it and made it work. I did my Amazon job, and I also had a full-time on the side that paid the bills. If you really want to expand your Amazon business you constantly need more inventory. After six months, I was making enough profit from my Amazon business so that I could quit my job and focus on it, full-time. I was making $60,000 in the first six months, and within a year I was at $100,000 and then a few months later, $200,000, and two and a half years later, I’m making $500,000 per month.

A lot of people fear failure when it comes to starting an Amazon business. What made you not give up when your first product was the wrong one?

I didn’t feel like I had a choice. I knew people who it was working for so it was inspiring for me, so I knew that it worked. I knew that if I kept persisting and following the successful actions of others, I could be successful. Some people get crazy into their first product and order a big excess of inventory, which makes the process take longer and become more complex. I started my first product, and it wasn’t awesome, but unit was readily available. That was key to my momentum.

What is so inspiring about your story is that you expressed that you were at a low point in your life when you started your Amazon business. There are a lot of women out there who are mothers that may be looking at this as an opportunity, but oftentimes it can be perceived as a limitation. What would you say to people that are in that circumstance?

It’s doable. I still had to get up and take my kids to school and run a household and cover all the bills. I didn’t take much time out to do other stuff. I fully committed to the process. I know that it takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and passion, especially when you are first starting something. Hopefully the product that you choose you are somewhat passionate about, because if you enjoy the process, you will persist and put in the work that needs to be done. If you fall off your horse, so to speak, you can get back on it easier.

How many products do you have now?

I have forty products that are all under one brand. When you have a brand it’s so much easier to create a lot of products that are under the same category, which allows you to cross-sell and promote new products to your existing customers. Once I had three to four products running, I started to get individual customers who would buy multiple products from me, and a high percentage of my sales was from that, which was awesome.

Can you share some tips for those people who want to take a leap of faith and build an Amazon business?

A lot of people have inflated expectations when it comes to getting their first product launched. They expect it to be making them a lot of money at the onset and its not realistic.

You need to have the mindset of an entrepreneur and treat it as a business. You don’t have an Amazon business, rather you have an e-commerce business, and you need to treat it as such. Amazon is just one part of it.

I hope the story of how this single Mom makes $500,000 per month on Amazon inspires you to take the leap of faith and start your Amazon business. Wouldn’t it feel great to make $500,000 per month? If she can do it, so can you!

Here is a sneak peek of my interview with Matt Clark on how to start selling on Amazon:

Why do you think that Amazon is such an attractive opportunity to people as a way to make money online?

I think it’s an easy concept for people to wrap their heads around. If you tell people, “I’m going to teach you how to go out there, build a business, and sell products that you are familiar with, like cell phone accessories, fitness products, etc.”, they get it.

These are all things that we use; it’s a business model that is easy for people to understand. People that take our course have tried Internet marketing and affiliate marketing, and it hasn’t worked. You don’t need crazy technical skills to start selling on Amazon. At the end of the day, you need to be able to think like a consumer, which is great, because we all possess that skill, because we are all consumers.

How would you address peoples’ fears, related to saturation and competition?

We have member after member who has joined our course in the past year or two that is doing very well. Amazon is getting bigger and bigger. The number of Amazon sellers isn’t growing as fast as the demand on Amazon is growing. We used to teach people a very narrow-focus approach to selling, but Amazon has grown so much that you can go for products that are less competitive, but produce just as many sales as you would have years ago going after the most competitive products. This widens the funnel and the number of products that you can go after. The number of opportunities on Amazon have gotten wider.

What are some of the biggest mistakes that you see people make when starting an Amazon business?

The biggest mistake that people make is trying to get too wide, too fast. When you start launching multiple products, you lose focus. Every new product that you launch, until it’s up and creating consistent sales, i just a cost. Inventory, time, staff, packaging, and marketing are all business expenditures.

Allow yourself to get over that hump and get to the point where one product is producing consistent sales and profit for you. Once this happens, then you can leverage your brand into multiple products.

Another mistake that people make is related to narrowing down the audience. For example, you can sell two different fitness products. They could both be great opportunities, but they are two different markets, so you don’t know who you are talking to. You need to make sure that the product that you launch after your first product really relates to your first product and your audience.

Lastly, not enough people take the time to build a relationship with their audience. If you are constantly staying in touch with people, via email or social media, then launching new products is going to be easier and people will respond better by buying more products from you.

Can you share with us a little bit about the Amazing Selling Machine?

The Amazing Selling Machine (ASM), has produced a lot of success stories. The whole purpose of our program is to get somebody from where ever they are, to building a solid, successful business and brand using our model.

In order to make this happen, we have a very step-by-step approach to our training. You watch a video and then implement those steps. By the time that you have gotten through the eight online modules, you will have built a business. We have the experience and we work our butts off to make sure that the training is always updated, because our goal is to get people actual results, as fast as possible. Amazon is always changing and our model has to do the same.

We don’t stop there. We have a private community for ASM members, comprised of people from over 100 different countries. We have mentors, which are members that have built Amazon businesses that have each made over $1 million on Amazon. They give feedback to other members and provide great answers to every single question that people have.

We also have weekly group coaching calls for people that join ASM, and we do cool events like the Amazing Seller Summit that bring Amazon sellers together to connect and inspire one another. We also have a private resource vault, comprised of a lot of cool software and tools that our members can utilize in their businesses so that you don’t have to go hunt for them online. The vault is valued at over $10,000.

This is how you start selling on Amazon. Matt and his team have graciously put together a free Amazon training series to help you get started. If you have a desire to build a business on Amazon, check it out. I highly recommend that you join ASM. It has changed my life and it can do the same for you!
