I've been an entrepreneur for over a decade now.

Over the years, I've observed a lot of people who have made attempts to become entrepreneurs. Many of them have either given up because they found it to be too hard, or they came to accept that it just wasn't for them.

While I believe that everybody is capable of becoming a successful entrepreneur, not everybody is willing to go down that path. It's not a matter of “can you”. Rather, it's a matter of “will you”. Success isn't about ability; it's about mindset.

Successful entrepreneurs possess a mental blueprint, comprised of similar character traits, habits, and belief systems. Some people are natural-born entrepreneurs. However, everything you need to be a good entrepreneur — experience, grit, luck, discipline, knowledge, etc. — you can earn for yourself.

Anybody can alter their belief systems and change their lives for the better by committing to personal growth. I am an example of someone who did this. When I first started on my self-development journey, I was depressed, shy, lazy, and negative. I didn't have an empowering bone in my body.

However, through self-development, I was able to change every area of my life. In turn, I ended up overcoming some of my greatest challenges, one of which was crippling social anxiety. I had the motivation to tap into my potential. Self-development made me believe that I could become more. I knew that anything was possible if I just believed in myself.

That's what I did. Fast forward to today and I have gone on to become a successful 7-figure entrepreneur. I am a coach, a motivational speaker, a content creator, and an influencer who has over one million subscribers on YouTube. I'm not telling you this because I think I'm special.

I was just willing to do what was hard.

The vision that I had for my life trumped any obstacle that I faced along my journey to success. If you have yet to cultivate the skills that are required to become a successful entrepreneur, ask yourself… do you have the motivation to learn these skills?

I see a lot of people dive into the world of entrepreneurship thinking that it's easier than a 9 to 5 job. As someone who has been both an employee and an entrepreneur, I can say for certain that this is far from true. A lot of people want success. However, they aren't willing to make the necessary changes within themselves to create success.

There are pros and cons of being an entrepreneur. The pros being that you can be your own boss, make passive income, retire early, travel the world, and live the laptop lifestyle, to name a few things. The cons include working harder than ever before and making sacrifices to build your business the right way.

There is always some level of risk and uncertainty involved with being an entrepreneur. The business world is constantly changing, which means that you have to constantly make sure that you are on top of your game.

At the end of the day, what will determine whether or not you decide to become an entrepreneur is if you decide that the pros are greater than the cons.

I decided that it was worth it, which meant that I was willing to do anything and everything to become successful. Are you willing to embrace the cons in the short-term to create your dream life?

You won't know the answer to this question until you start a business.

If you're still not sure if you should become an entrepreneur, I encourage you to reflect upon what your nature is. This is something that I learned from Tony Robbins. He believes that there are three different business natures or identities.

The first nature is the artist. This is someone who is very creative and who has a specific skill set. An example would be an actor or a musician.

The second nature is the entrepreneur. This is someone who is a risk-taker and an innovator. They create something new from scratch. In effect, the entrepreneur loves to create a start-up and build systems that come with scaling a business.

The third nature is the manager/leader. This is someone who loves to build a team and manage people. They motivate and inspire people to follow in their vision. Also, they can easily hire and fire.

Keep in mind that you can embody all three of these natures. However, there will be one that you will relate to more. Which nature is that for you? The best advice that I can give you is to commit to working on your true nature.  Once you know who you are and what your strengths and weaknesses are, there is no limit to how much you can achieve in life.

Are you ready to dive into the world of entrepreneurship?

You'll never really know if this path is right for you unless you take action and give it a shot. Check out my Online Business Mastery YouTube playlist for my best tips and strategies on how to start an online business.

If you're willing to not give up, I truly believe that you can be, do, and have anything. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you are happy and that you find your mission in life. Stay patient and trust the journey, no matter what path you take.

John Lee Dumas has built a multi-million dollar podcasting business.

John hosts an interview with a successful entrepreneur, seven days per week. On his podcast, John has interviewed over 3,000 of the world's best-known entrepreneurs. Some of these people include Tony Robbins, Tim Ferris, Barbara Corcoran, Jack Canfield, and Gary Vaynerchuk.

John's new book, The Common Path To Uncommon Success, is based on thousands of interviews from his podcast. Inside, he outlines a 17-step roadmap that entrepreneurs should take if they aspire to achieve financial and lifestyle freedom. In our interview, John talks about what it takes to become a successful entrepreneur. Let's dive in!

Do you mind sharing a little bit about your story and how you get started with Internet marketing?

I was born and raised in a small town in southern Maine. My upbringing was very traditional. I went to college on an Army scholarship and spent 8 years as an officer in the U.S. army. When I was 23 years old I went to Iraq and did a 13-month duty as a tank platoon commander.

I was in charge of 3 tanks and 16 men in a time of war. Those were pretty intense times. After my time in the army, I tried law school thinking that was the next logical move. I hated it from day one and dropped out after the first semester, so I took off for a little Eat, Pray, Love moment.

I traveled the world with the intention of “finding myself.”

When I came home I thought I was ready to get serious so I tried corporate finance with John Hancock in Boston. That lasted for one year before I quit, After that, I tried real estate, both residential and commercial. Overall, my 26-32 year range was what I call “the 6 years of struggle.” Frankly, I wasn't finding any success or happiness.

I started my Internet marketing journey when I was 32 years old. During that time, I started reading self-help books, like Think and Grow Rich and The Four-Hour Workweek. I was also listening to a lot of podcasts and audiobooks. Podcasting was a medium that I clicked with right away.

I planted a seed that eventually led to me launching Entrepreneurs On Fire. This was the first daily podcast that interviewed successful entrepreneurs 7 days a week. The uniqueness that I was able to acquire within the daily podcast world led me to get some momentum, authority, and influence.

I ended up hosting 2,000 episodes in 2,000 days!

To date, I've hosted over 3,000 interviews with the world's most successful entrepreneurs. There have been over one hundred million listens of my podcast, and one million listens of the show every single month.

This is my passion project and something that I've been able to turn into a great financial machine. We just crossed our 91st month in a row where our net profit has been over $100,000. It's been quite the journey.

After interviewing over 3,000 incredible entrepreneurs, who have been the most impressive people that you've interviewed? What were the key lessons that you've learned from them?

I've learned from every single one of my guests. These interviews have allowed me to build friendships and grow my network. Equally as important, these interviews have given my audience the ability to learn from these amazing mentees of mine.

If you are an entrepreneur who is on fire, you've been on my show.

People like Tony Robbins, Barbara Corcoran, Tim Ferriss, Gary Vaynerchuk, Jack Canfield, and Brian Tracy, to name a few. Such a slew of inspiring people. I have found three commonalities that exist amongst all successful entrepreneurs.

First, they are productive individuals. Being productive means that you are producing the right content. You are giving a real solution to your audiences' real problems. If you're doing that, you're being productive. Conversely, if you're doing what 99% of people do every single day, you're just being busy.

Second, they are disciplined. As an entrepreneur, you have to be disciplined. This means that you are a disciple of a plan of action. Entrepreneurs on fire do the right things within that plan of action.

Finally, successful entrepreneurs can focus. That is an acronym for “follow one course until success.” If you can focus, you will win. Those who focus go one inch wide and one mile deep. Because of this, they become the best at that one thing.

People want the best. They don't want the second best. Although I was a terrible podcaster back in 2012 when I first started, I was still the best. I focused on my daily podcast until I was successful.

From all of the interviews that you've done thus far, what have you found drives a lot of successful entrepreneurs?

Back in 2015, I was doing financially well with the podcast. I interviewed someone during that time who said something that has always stuck with me which is, “You have to find a way to go from success to significance.” At the time, I had achieved the success that I thought I had wanted. However, I knew that something was missing.

For the last six years, I've been focused on creating significance in my life.

When you ask a lot of people what they are working towards, they respond with, “I want to make more money.” I get that, but when does more stop? Unfortunately, for some people achieving more never stops until it's too late.

Today, I live in Puerto Rico. I work hard 5 days per month. The other 25 days of the month I am working on my health, my relationships, my wellness, and exploring the world 75-90 days a year with my girlfriend.

We prioritize other aspects of our life, other than just work. Our business could have hit $10 million last year if we sat down and did nothing other than 30 days of hard work. However, even though we only do 5 days of work out of the month, we are still able to hit $2-3 million per year. We have enough.

I don't want to stop making money, but my lifestyle is important. That's my version of uncommon success — financial freedom, and fulfillment. I know what that looks like because I've created it.

Why did you decide to write your new book, The Common Path To Uncommon Success? What is the core message of your book that you want to share with people?

When I came up for air from my season of working hard I started to design the lifestyle that I wanted. I've learned so much from interviewing 3,000 uncommonly successful entrepreneurs. In 2019, I sat down and started writing down all of the similarities that they had in common with one another.

When I boiled it down, I was looking at 17 core foundational principles.

Every single entrepreneur that I've interviewed has gone on this exact same path within their life and their business. I decided to create a 17-step roadmap to financial freedom and fulfillment.

I've never written a book before, but I saw 17 chapters staring back at me. I knew that it needed to be written so I took the traditional publishing route and got Harper Collins to spot me a $350,000 advance. In 2020, while we were quarantined, I got to work writing.

My version of work was spending time writing my book during the first two hours of every day. It took me 8 months and 480 writing hours to write 17 chapters. I'm so proud of the final result.

Of the 3,000 people whom I've interviewed, I thought about who best exemplified each of the 17 steps. I reached out to those people and they ended up contributing an amazing section to the step that best embodies their Zone Of Fire.

What are some of your favorite steps from the book?

Step 1 is identifying your big idea. This is a sad truth… so many people are going to die never even knowing what their big idea was. It was inside of them all along, but they chose to not share it with the world. When you know what your big idea is and you embody it, you live inside your Zone Of Fire.

This is when you're living every day doing what you should do, where you should do it, with whom you should do it.

Step 2 is about discovering your niche. Find a void within your big idea that is not being met. Another way of saying this is to find a problem that has yet to be solved within your big idea. That is how you will get the ball rolling.

And skipping ahead a bit, step 7 is creating a content production plan. The reason why I am such a prolific producer of content is that I once sucked at content production, but I fixed it. I work 5 days out of the month because I have perfected my content production plan.

Do you aspire to become an entrepreneur on fire?

There is no reason why you can't have financial and lifestyle freedom. However, you must be willing to work hard for it and strive for significance.

I highly recommend that you read John Lee Dumas' new book, The Common Path To Uncommon Success. I'm halfway through and it and it's nothing short of amazing. When you pre-order John's book, he gives you 5 once-in-a-lifetime bonuses, valued at over $1,300!

To give you a sneak peek… one of the free bonuses that he will give you is his Freedom, Mastery & Podcast Journals. For those of you who live in the USA, he will ship the journals directly to your door, free of charge. Those of you who live outside of the USA will receive digital packs.

I'll leave you with one of John Lee Dumas' favorite quotes by Albert Einstein, “Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value.”

As you move along your entrepreneurial journey, make sure that you don't fall into the trap of chasing success. Rather, find ways to add value to peoples' lives, create an impact, and share your message with the world. That is a testament to true success in life.

What does being an entrepreneur mean to you?

To start a profitable business from scratch you need to possess an entrepreneurial mindset. This is a way of thinking that enables you to overcome challenges, be decisive, and accept responsibility for your outcomes. I find that a lot of people have unrealistic expectations of what it means to be an entrepreneur.

Anyone can have a business idea. However, building a successful business is an entirely different beast. The most successful entrepreneurs weren't born with the gift of success. Instead, they were driven by the desire to succeed. This unshakeable drive is what motivated them to do whatever was necessary to become successful.

Once you have the right mindset in place, you can focus on the strategies that are needed to build your online business the right way. Let's explore 5 of the most important things that you should focus on in your online business to earn $10,000+ a month!

1. Choose Your Vehicle & Commit To It Fully

There are so many opportunities to make money online. You have to decide which online business is best for you, whether it's selling physical products on Amazon, building a book publishing business, doing affiliate marketing, or being an online influencer.

Once you decide which business model you want to pursue, you must commit to it fully. That's what it takes to succeed at anything in life. A lot of entrepreneurs struggle and inevitably fail because they dabble in their online business.

They put in some effort, but when they don't see results fast enough, they give up and jump to the next thing. To put it bluntly, they aren't willing to go all-in because they are too afraid to fail. You can't treat an online business as a hobby.

Once you know what your business is, you have to learn everything that you possibly can about it. In short, you have to go deep and master it. Successful entrepreneurs are willing to do anything and everything to achieve success in their online business.

If they can't find a way, they make a way. If you are willing to commit to your business fully and put in your 10,000+ hours, you are guaranteed to succeed.

2. Know Your Ideal Customer

To be a successful entrepreneur, you have to know who your ideal customer is. Think of your ideal customer avatar as a customer profile that is a best-case scenario for your business.

You have to be willing to understand what your ideal customer's desires, goals, and needs are. More importantly, you need to know what their pain points are and how you can solve them. Essentially, an entrepreneur is someone who solves peoples' problems at a profit.

When you know what your customers' problems are, you will be able to successfully attract and market your services or products to them. As a result, they will want to buy from you.

Keep in mind that you should be continuously learning about your customers because their needs will change over time. Engage with them and ask them questions. Doing so will allow you to successfully pivot and grow your business.

3. Create An Irresistible Offer

You have to create a product or service that is so compelling that your customer would be silly not to buy it. You want your customer to feel like YOU were getting the short end of the stick, based on the value that you're offering them. This is how you build raving fans.

A lot of people do the status quo, meaning that they don't go above and beyond in their online business. To create an irresistible offer, you have to be innovative.

Some examples of being innovative may include revamping the packaging of your product, creating a bonus offer, getting more reviews, or improving the price of your product or service.

Peter Druker, one of the greatest business minds in history, said that business is all about innovation and marketing. It's about finding a way to do something better, faster, and more attractive than your competition.

If you look at the greatest companies in the world, like Apple, what makes them sustainable is that they are always innovating. If you continuously find ways to grow and innovate your business, you will succeed.

4. Market & Promote Your Offer

You could have the best product or service, but if you don't effectively market and promote it, nobody will benefit from it. A lot of people get uncomfortable with the idea of selling.

However, if you believe in what you have to offer, you are doing people a disservice by not selling your service or product. Nothing changes in history until someone is influenced and sold. When it comes to marketing and sales, there are many different avenues that you should learn and master.

Some examples include studying the psychological triggers that influence people to buy, perfecting your copywriting skills, learning how to optimize your website or upgrade product packaging. There's a lot of different factors that need to be taken into play.

At the end of the day, you're just trying to get people's attention. One of my favorite ways to market is through value-added marketing. Value-added marketing brings marketing to an entirely new level by turning marketing content into a product of its own.

I use Youtube and other social media platforms to connect and deliver high-quality content to others. By doing so, people are attracted to me and my brand. As a result, I don't have to focus on selling my products all that much because I've already created trust with my customers.

5. Deliver More Than Expected

As an entrepreneur, you always have to under-promise and over-deliver to your customer in every aspect of your business. This is how you build a raving fan customer.

This is someone who will buy from you, again and again. Not only that, but they will tell their friends and family about how great your product or service is. This is the best way to build a scalable online business.

These are the 5 steps to building an online business that earns you $10,000+ a month!

How would your life change if you earned this amount of money every month? If I was able to accomplish this goal, so can you. The question is, how bad do you want it? What are you willing to sacrifice to become successful? There is always a price to success.

It will demand something of you, but only you can decide what that looks like. Trust the process and keep your eye on the prize. Fully commit to taking consistent action in your online business.

When you do that, there is no limit to how much money you can make and how much impact you can have in the world.

Success starts in your mind. If you want to be a millionaire, you need to start thinking like one.

My fiancée, Tatiana, and I were blessed to become millionaires at 24 and 27 years of age, respectively. Early on, we made smart life and business moves.

As a result, today we have achieved financial freedom.

Are you ready to build a successful online business and become a millionaire? CLICK HERE to take my FREE quiz to determine which business is best for you!

Everyone has the potential to become an entrepreneur

In today's digital world, there are so many opportunities to make money online, whether that's selling physical products on Amazon, doing affiliate marketing, or being a Kindle book publisher. What is even more incredible is that you don't need a college degree to become a successful entrepreneur.

Don't get me wrong… a college degree is needed for certain careers. However, entrepreneurship is not one of them. A SurveyMonkey small business survey shows that independent business owners without a four-year degree now outnumber those with a bachelor’s degree or higher.

Tatiana and I are both self-taught entrepreneurs. Choosing this path wasn't easy, but our drive to succeed overpowered every obstacle. Building an online business requires discipline, persistence, grit, sacrifice, and a lot of hard work. At an early age, when our friends were drinking, going out, and having fun with friends, we were building our businesses.

The payoff from our efforts has been well worth it. Today, we have the luxury of financial freedom. Keep in mind that entrepreneurship is not for everyone. At the end of the day, it depends on how bad you want success.

Highly successful people engage in similar patterns of thinking and behaving. Let's talk about the 5 habits of young millionaire entrepreneurs. Both Tatiana and I modeled these habits from successful people whom we looked up to when we were in our 20s.

1. The Habit Of Delayed Gratification

Young people have more time on their hands and fewer responsibilities than adults do. Yet, they aren't always aware of this reality. Practicing self-control and being a teenager sounds like an oxymoron at best. Unfortunately, we live in a society where young people are conditioned to be impatient.

Avoiding a temptation that’s standing right in front of you so that you can hold out for something substantially better down the line can be challenging. However, if you cultivate the habit of delayed gratification early on, it will eventually become second nature to you.

Don't get me wrong, it's still important to have fun when you're young. However, if it's at the expense of building your future, you need to rethink your priorities. In our 20s, Tatiana and I spent most of our time focused on personal growth and building our online businesses.

We purposefully planned our lives, delaying short-term gratification for long-term rewards. Research shows that people who learn how to manage their need to be satisfied in the moment thrive more in their careers, relationships, health, and finances than people who give in to it.

Use your time wisely. Invest in your personal growth, make smart decisions, and build your self-discipline. Your future self will thank you for it.

2. The Habit Of Self-Improvement

Unfortunately, the traditional education system is not designed to help young people become millionaires. If you want to become a millionaire, you need to become an entrepreneur.

However, you won't learn how to be a successful entrepreneur by taking a business course at college. Instead, you have to learn from people who have already achieved the success that you desire. You are the number one resource in your life. The fastest way to succeed is to commit to being a student of life.

This is why I'm a big believer in learning something new every single day. Tatiana and I are always trying to shorten our learning curve by learning from other peoples' successes.

This is how you compress time and achieve success at a much faster pace. Read a book every day, listen to inspiring podcasts, invest in courses, hire a coach, find a mentor, attend seminars – anything that will help you develop a success-oriented mindset. The greatest investment that you will ever make is an investment in yourself.

You never lose when you work on your personal growth and development. In the words of Warren Buffett, who is one of the richest men in the world, “The more you learn, the more you earn.”

3. The Habit Of Taking Action

Younger people tend to be more open-minded and flexible. As people get older, they start building belief systems that aren't always advantageous. Sometimes they become more rigid in their thinking, which inhibits them from taking action. They wait for the perfect time to take action, failing to realize that there is no perfect time to do anything.

Interestingly, one of the reasons why Tatiana was able to become successful at such a young age was her naivety. When she was told to do something by someone she trusted and respected, she took action. She didn't question why something wouldn't work.

This mindset served her well, especially when it came to building her online business. She was a sponge, meaning that she was very curious and was driven to seek out and absorb new knowledge. Today, she has built a 7-figure business herself, helping people create financial freedom through building an eCommerce business on Amazon & Shopify.

If you have the desire to build an online business, I encourage you to follow her YouTube channel and Instagram page where she shares her best tips and strategies for success with eCommerce.

Be an action taker AND a finisher. Dabbling is a bad habit. If you want to be successful, you have to take focused action over a continuous period. This is how you build momentum and create long-term results.

4. The Habit of Contribution

The definition of an entrepreneur is someone who solves people's problems at a profit. The only way that you become a millionaire is by receiving money from others. The only way you receive money from others is by contributing to their lives in an empowering way.

You have to be creative and think outside the box. Create a unique product or service that adds massive value to your audience. Your income is in direct proportion to your contribution. If you want to make millions of dollars, find ways to impact millions of people, or solve the problems of millions of people.

As an example, both Tatiana and I have found ways to add value to millions of people on YouTube. Because of that, we have been rewarded financially. We have leveraged the power of the Internet in such a way that we've been able to scale our online businesses to 7-figures.

In our experience, if you help enough people get what they want, you will eventually get what you want. Take the focus away from yourself, get into the mind of your audience, and determine what their pain point is. Create a product that is so irresistible for them that they are willing to give you money in exchange.

Make your audience feel that they are getting so much more value than what they are paying for. If you can do this, you'll create raving fans and money will naturally flow into your life.

5. The Habit Of Goal Setting

By nature, young people are more inspirational and optimistic about the future. If you're young, use this mindset to your advantage! Set goals for yourself and create a compelling vision for your life. Get clear on exactly what it is that you want your future to look like.

Goals give you a sense of direction. However, your habits are what will determine how far you go and who you become. With so many of your actions controlled by your habits, it makes sense to focus your attention on building habits of success, equally as much as you set goals.

A lot of people fall into the trap of setting unrealistic goals. Not surprisingly, they get disappointed in themselves when they come up short. In turn, they may drop their goals altogether.

When it comes to goal-setting, I suggest that you break down your goals into smaller, manageable pieces and tackle one at a time. Create a list of actionable steps that you will need to take to ensure that you achieve every goal that you set for yourself.

These are the 5 habits of young millionaire entrepreneurs.

If you want to build long-term wealth, focus on building these million dollar habits into your daily life. Be willing to do the work to upgrade your mindset. Foster healthy ways of thinking and behaving that condition you for success.

Anyone can become a millionaire, but not everyone is willing to do what it takes to become one. Achieving success of any kind always comes down to how bad you want it.

It's time to get real with yourself… how bad do you want to become a millionaire?

Selling on Amazon & Shopify has never been easier.

Tatiana has built an eCommerce empire from scratch, proving that anything is possible if you stay committed to the process. We have filmed a few videos together where we've shared her eCommerce journey in more detail.

If you are serious about selling on Amazon & Shopify, I encourage you to check out the videos below. We go deeper into the Amazon FBA & Shopify process and how Tatiana has been able to master both platforms.

A lot of people who teach how to build Amazon businesses never share what their business is and what products they are selling. However, Tatiana strongly believes in the power of transparency because she has an abundance mentality. She knows that there is enough success for everyone.

Watch the video above, where Tatiana walks you through her Amazon & Shopify accounts.

Being witness to the progress that she's made in her business is so inspiring. She's worked so hard and I am beyond proud of her. I wanted to take the time to pick Tatiana's brain about how she has been able to achieve so much success. If you commit to learning, working hard, and following Tatiana's eCommerce advice, I promise that you too can radically transform your life.

Let's dive in!

How did you start selling on Amazon and what challenges did you have to face to get to where you are today?

It's been a long journey. Before I was introduced to the online business world I was in University while working part-time at a restaurant. I had plans to work in the government after I graduated. When I met Stefan, I started to witness the freedom that he had because of his online business.

I soon realized that if I wanted to build a relationship with Stefan, I knew that I would hold him back if I didn't have a similar lifestyle to him. This is why I was inspired to build an online business. I took Stefan's book publishing course and started publishing Kindle books on Amazon. I did that for a while and I published five different books.

Once I came across the opportunity of selling physical products on Amazon, I was sold. At this point, Stefan and I went through the Amazing Selling Machine course. Because I was still in University, I didn't have a lot of money to invest in my Amazon business.

My first product was a cognac sponge, similar to a face sponge.

I chose this product because it was within my price range. It was 20 cents per unit. My initial inventory investment was around $300. At the time, I was making a couple of thousand dollars per month. However, I was constantly reinvesting that money back into my business.

Eventually, I realized that my first product didn't have enough potential. I sold out of my inventory and went onto my second product, which was a 3d figure mascara. However, I found that there were too many risks associated with that product. Later on, I learned that you want to source any product that is topical or ingestible in the country where you are going to sell it.

After my second product, I took a break. It gave me time to reflect upon what my next move was going to be. I started to think about the types of products that I was purchasing on Amazon. Eventually, I realized that I was repurchasing waist trainers because they kept falling apart.

I went ahead and started selling waist trainers as my third product. At first, it wasn't an easy product to sell because of its complexity. However, I kept learning and modifying my approach until I made it work. Today, I sell so many different styles and size variations of my product and I have built a very successful eCommerce business.

How did you manage your time and finances when building your online business?

I'm a very committed person. When I decided that I was going to start an online business, I went all-in. A lot of people want something but they aren't necessarily willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. I knew that I had limited time because I was in school and had a job, on top of a relationship.

It's fair to say that I made a lot of sacrifices in my early 20s.

In terms of my finances, I had my first job at 12 years old, and I've been working ever since. I understand the value of a dollar and how hard it is to earn a dollar. At the time I started my business, I was going to University and paying for tuition on my own. I committed to investing $300-500 dollars in the business and reinvested everything back into my business.

How has your life changed as a result of starting an online business?

The biggest difference in my life is the amount of comfort that I now have. Life costs money. I'm not about having a boat and nice cars. Rather, it's about being able to enjoy more time with myself and my family. Also, being able to contribute to those less fortunate has been a huge gift.

Because I've gone from being a broke student to a multi-millionaire in only a few years, I'm still processing all of my success. My online business has changed my life forever. The freedom that it's given me has been transformative. I don't have to work if I don't want to. That's a nice feeling to have. Living life on my terms is a beautiful thing.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to build an online business?

I learned how to build an Amazon business through the Amazing Selling Machine. Eight years later, it's still the #1 course for Amazon sellers. I followed their course, step-by-step. In hindsight, I don't know how I would have grown my business without their training.

I knew that I didn't know anything about business.

However, I humbled myself and was open to learning from others. Do your research to determine if a course will work for you. I think that investing in your education is the best way to go about it.

This is how Tatiana makes $220,000 per month on Amazon & Shopify.

Tatiana's story is proof that you can create financial freedom at a young age. If you want to learn more about Tatiana and her work, I encourage you to subscribe to her YouTube channel and follow her on Instagram. Imagine how your life would change if you were making $220,000 per month.

Allen Brouwer has been featured on the Forbes 30 under 30 list.

Not only that, but he has won Shopify's Build a Business competition twice in a row. He is the only person who has achieved this goal. It's fair to say that Allen is a serial entrepreneur whom everyone should learn from. In our interview, we talk about his entrepreneurial journey. In particular, how he has been able to build an 8-figure Ecommerce business from the ground up in such a short period of time. Let's dive in!

How did you become an entrepreneur and get to where you are today?

I became an entrepreneur by choice. There was a time in my life when I was climbing the corporate ladder. This is when I was working in South Carolina. Unfortunately, during this time, my mom ended up getting sick. The company that I was working for at the time granted me a 24 hour, with paid time off (PTO) grace period.

I went home to see my mom. However, during those 24 hours, I still felt obligated to the company. I spent most of my time at home answering emails and pushing products along, so as to ensure that all of my responsibilities were being followed through on.

Eventually, I went back to South Carolina.

That would be the last time that I ever saw my mom. I felt horrible about myself for a long time. Not surprisingly, I started to hold resentment towards the company that I worked with. Eventually I quit and decided to create life on my own terms. That is when I found the world of entrepreneurship and decided to jump into business.

What was your first business?

My first business was consultancy. I was doing digital marketing for a large yacht manufacturer. It was okay but it was more like feast and famine consultancy work. I did a lot on my own. From there, I met my business partner, Catherine and we started an Amazon business. We would take products from China, white-label them, do a rebrand and then launch them on Amazon.

Catherine had a design background and I had a marketing background. We paired well together. We became very successful with that business.

What kinds of challenges did you face when building your 8-figure Ecommerce business?

A big challenge that we faced was logistics. In particular, managing inventory from our manufacturers, getting that inventory on ships, and getting those ships to our fulfillment center. We ran into an inventory issue where we had promised our Kickstarter backers the product by a certain date.

We gave ourselves three months, but it wasn't enough time.

If you're ever launching a Kickstarter and you promise a due date, give yourself more of a buffer. The freight forwarding company that we used put us on a carrier ship that went all the way around the world. It made us 60 days late on delivery. From that experience, we got a crash course in logistics.

Any tips or advice on how to scale a business?

There are three ways to grow a business – increasing the number of customers that you're getting, increasing the number of customers that pay you, and increasing the frequency at which those customers purchase from you. There's a way that you can do all three of those things with one simple method.

It's called skew widening.

Rather than finding a product, developing it yourself, selling it to one market and hoping that people will buy it, instead you create a formula. With this formula, you have products, A, B, and C.

The first, which are known as “A” products are stand-alone products. This is a way for you to bring in other demographics that you normally wouldn't tap into.

The “B” products are complementary products that serve to elevate product “A.” Now you are increasing the number of customers that are coming in and the amount that they're paying.

Lastly, “C” products are extension products. These are for your brand loyalists. These products are things like swag, t-shirts, and hoodies.

Any tips for how entrepreneurs can be more productive?

The first thing is being really intentional with your time. I suggest blocking out your day in 30-minute segments and then scheduling your tasks around those segments. All of a sudden, you will see all of this white space and think, “Oh wow, I actually have a two-hour window between this thing and that thing.” Once you can see what is in front of you, you can slot important tasks into those times. If you can do this, you will accomplish more in one day than some people accomplish in one week.

Secondly, during your weekly schedule, I suggest theming your days. For example, Mondays are my creativity days, Tuesdays are call days, with a focus on product development, Wednesdays are free, Thursdays are call days with a focus on marketing, and Fridays are weekly calls with my team to recap and go over our KPIs and status reports. Theming your days is a great way to increase your productivity.

This is how Allen Brouwer built an 8-figure Ecommerce business in less than 24 months.

His story is nothing short of remarkable. If you want to learn how to scale and systemize your business for financial success, I encourage you to check out Allen's incredible work.

JJ Virgin empowers people to take control of their health.

In addition to her fitness and nutrition work, JJ is also a business coach. She is the Founder of The MindShare Collaborative, which is a premier community for health and wellness influencers and entrepreneurs from around the world. In our interview together, she and I talk about how she built a global media empire from the ground up. Here is a sneak peek of our chat!

Where did you start to get to where you are today?

I've always been into health and fitness. I can't imagine a time in my life when I wasn't. I started my journey with teaching calisthenics. Back in college, I became one of the first personal trainers. This was in the '80s. It was great. I was making 6-figures cash. Body by Jake, Mark Sisson and I were friends. These guys woke me up to marketing. At the start, I was charging $35-45 per hour.

Every time I got a new client, I would raise my price.

I remember going to a new client who had been working with Body by Jake and his brother. He charged $75 for 30 minutes. At the time, I was charging $45 for one hour. He was fully booked. I thought, “What is going on?” He didn't have the degree or the background that I had. I knew that I had to learn the marketing side of my business, and that's exactly what I did.

How did you transition from being a personal trainer to writing books?

I started to get frustrated because I wanted to help more people but didn't know how. My clients were getting healthier as a result of my efforts. However, it still felt limiting. I started doing public speaking. At the time, I was attending the University of Miami.

I had a client who asked me, “What are you going to do when you finish your degree in Sports Medicine?” My response was that I would go to graduate school. She said, “Okay, so when you graduate then what are you going to do?” I told her that I would go and get a Ph.D. She asked me why and I said, “Because I want to be more successful.”

This was a woman who grew up in a trailer park and who barely finished high school. Today, she is a multi-millionaire and is currently impacting millions of people's lives. She said, “You know those two things don't correlate, right? I can teach you how to be successful.”

I literally sold my personal training business and moved into her house.

The first week she put rubber bands on my wrist. She said, “Every time you have a limiting belief, I want you to snap your rubber band.” What is interesting is that, for six months, she trained me on mindset stuff. She taught me how to never trade time for money.

So many people think that they are an entrepreneur, but they are just a bad boss to themselves — which is what I was. It's fair to say that I was running myself ragged. I knew that if I was going to build a business, I might as well build one for myself. Over time, I took the principles that I learned from her and I put them into place in my own business.

Do you have any tips for how someone can get media exposure for their business?

Media exposure is really important but not for the reasons that people think it is. There is so much noise in the media. This is why it's so important that you build your credibility. As soon as I moved to Palm Desert, California, I knew that I had to build my business quickly.

Any chance I got, I would go on local TV.

I would simply write to publishers and editors of the shows I wanted to be on and say, “Here's my idea. Here's my credibility, here is what is being talked about, and here is my take on it.” By doing this, I had already created a segment for them. From there, I would follow-up. I still do this today.

What is your mindset for success?

I'm a single Mom. I've always been the sole financial supporter of my children. I had to be successful and make it work for them. Nobody has handed me anything in life. Everything that I have created and financed has been done on my own. This is true for all of my companies. I've always been hungry. That helps a ton. I also have a bigger mission and purpose beyond wanting to feed my kids.

My WHY is always expanding.

At first, I wanted to help one million people get healthy. The next thing I knew I was on Dr. Phil. From there, I started wondering how I could help ten million people. Then I thought, “What if I could help one billion people?” It's not that hard when you think about it. You always have to possess one thing that keeps you moving forward. If I'm not feeling an imposter syndrome, I know that I'm playing too small.

What were some of the challenges that you’ve faced along the way and how did you overcome them?

One month before my book, The Virgin Diet, was getting ready to be published I invested the entire advance that I was given into doing a public television special. I also borrowed some money as well. Four weeks before, my 16-year-old Grant got hit by a car while crossing the street at dusk. Literally, he was left for dead in the street.

They airlifted him to our local hospital. They told me that I was going to have to let him die.

He had a torn aorta which kills 90% of people on the scene. They couldn't fix the tear because they didn't have the right surgeon. He had multiple brain plates so he was in a deep coma with 13 fractures. We overruled the doctor and airlifted him to another hospital. He was there for 4.5 months.

I launched my book, sitting with my son, bedside. I knew that this book was going to save my son's life because if I didn't get the book, I would have been bankrupt. It was go-time. That's what I did. Honestly, it's a big reason why The Virgin Diet became the success that it is. Even better, my son is 110% better.

How does taking good care of your body amplify other areas of your life?

It's so hard for me to understand how someone could not make their health a priority. When I first started in personal training, exercise was viewed as a luxury. There is an old Zen saying that reads, “The way you do one thing is the way that you do everything.”

If you get up and exercise you will probably eat better. Once you do that, you will have more energy, which means that you won't need that 12th cup of coffee. If you've done that, you won't be so stressed that you have to drink alcohol at night, and so on. It all goes together. If you don't take care of your health, everything compounds.

That is why people get overwhelmed.

If you have yet to read Gary Keller's book, The One Thing, do it! It is the best book ever written for how you should live your life. When it comes to improving your health, pick one thing that you want to focus on. I have to remind myself of this all the time. Health is something that we are always working on leveling up.  It's not static. If you aren't constantly improving it, it's declining. Once I master one area of my health, I move onto the next area.

What is one thing that people could do immediately in order to improve their health?

Sleep is going to make the biggest change in your overall health. This is why I use the OURA ring. What you measure and monitor, you can improve. I travel and switch time zones a lot so I'm really crazy about getting my sleep in. It helps for being able to focus and think straight. Also, having a solid sleep schedule is one of the best things that you can do for losing weight.

What do you do to optimize your sleep?

I have a whole evening routine for the 30-60 minutes before I fall asleep. First, I dim the lights, cool down the house, and then I take a hot bath with Epson salts.

I use a product called, Sleep Candy.

This is a supplement that combines thiamine, 5-HTP, melatonin, B6 and inositol. After that, I read a good book. All technology is removed. My goal is to fall asleep between 9 pm and 10 pm at night and to wake up without an alarm.

How do you think someone should build their brand today?

I'm a big believer in putting on more events. I've actually never run ads before because I am always speaking and meeting people. You can still engage with people via social media, but it's not the same as interacting with people face-to-face.

If you build a solid business talking to people you will know what they want.

I brought my top customers from the JJ Virgin brand over to my house for the afternoon because I wanted some testimonials. It turned out to be the greatest thing ever. We hung out for the entire day. I now know what my audience wants. If you are not in love with your audience, then you've got the wrong audience. Be with people who you love and want to serve and don't stop grinding until you will get to where you want to go.

This is how JJ Virgin built a global media empire.

Becoming an entrepreneur isn't easy. It takes a lot of hard work, energy, and motivation to create a brand from scratch. This is why it's so important that you do the work to optimize your health and well-being. If your body isn't working efficiently, neither will your business.

In the words of JJ Virgin, “Your body is not a bank account. It's a chemistry lab.” Treat your mind and body with care because if you don't have your health, you don't have much of anything.

Russell Brunson has an inspiring story of success.

His work is what originally inspired me to start my online business. Here is a sneak peek of my interview with Russell Brunson. I encourage you to watch the video above where he talks, in-depth, about how he built a $100 million dollar company and mass movement.

Can you share your story and how you got to where you are today?

Back when I was in college, everyone was talking about creating informational products. I was intrigued by the idea but didn't think that I had any talents or skills in this area. A friend of mine approached me one day and asked if I wanted to build a potato gun. We were the only two guys in our friend group who were married. While everyone was out doing non-married types of things, my friend and I got together and decided that we would make a potato gun. We spent the whole weekend building them.

All of a sudden, I wondered if anyone else was in the market to buy this product. I searched online and I realized that there were 18,000 people per month that were searching for potato guns. Yet, nobody had a product online. Instantly, I knew that this was a huge opportunity. My friend and I went ahead and made an information product that taught people how to make potato guns.

That's how the whole thing started.

When I was a young kid, I always struggled in school. I wasn't that smart. However, I was always fascinated with learning. When I first designed a website, I started to learn about marketing. I would read a book, take action and get results. All of a sudden, it made me money. Everything I learned turned into money. That was the first time I ever considered myself to be smart. Ever since then, it's been a crazy ride.

How did you start ClickFunnels?

The first decade of this experience was just about geeking out and taking action. We were creating all sorts of funnels, everything from neuropathy to pain pills, to dating products, to couponing. Most great entrepreneurs find peoples' pain points and then try to solve them. It took us 3 months to build out a funnel.

The process took a long time.

Todd, my co-founder suggested that we build software that would do all the stuff that we were doing by hand. He is literally the smartest human that I've ever bumped into. This would later transform into what is now called, ClickFunnels. When it came out, it exploded. It's been 4.5 years since our launch. Today, we have 88,157 active members who pay $97-$297 per month to use our software. It's been fun, crazy and exciting all wrapped into one huge party.

How did your partnership with Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi take shape, and why are you so passionate about self-education?

Mastermind Groups have changed my entire life. I joined Bill Glazer's group back when I first got started. It was a game changer. Eventually, I started my own Mastermind Group which I've been running for six years now. When I found out that Dean Graziosi was launching a $100,000 group, I wanted to become friends with him. He's awesome.

I set up a meeting and I met him for dinner. He told me that he was interested in selling a Mastermind Group for $100,000. Instantly I was like, “I'm in!” I was the first person who bought his group and then he leveraged it to sell the whole thing out. That is how I got into his circle.

Brendon Burchard invited Dean Graziosi, myself and a bunch of people to this Mastermind Group in Wyoming. We all hung out there. On my flight home, Dean and I sat next to one another. He wanted to talk to me about a project but I could tell that he couldn't give me all of the details.

All I knew is that it involved Tony Robbins.

Finally, Dean said, “It's kind of like masterclass.com, but instead of courses, it's masterminding bigger things. Imagine buying a course from Michael Jordan about playing basketball, but instead, you actually go to Michael Jordan's house and play with him.”

Instantly, I was sold. Dean asked me if I owned the domain, mastermind.com. I told him that I did not, but that he needed to buy it. As soon as I got home, I searched for mastermind.com. I quickly realized from looking at the picture on the website that the person who owned the domain name was a Funnel hacker!

We ended up paying $500-600,000 dollars to buy the domain. I decided that I would just give the name to Dean because one of my goals in life is for Tony Robbins to think that I'm cool. My hope was that they could use it for their launch. As an exchange for the gift that I gave them, Dean and Tony decided to make me a minority partner on their project. I've had a chance to create some of the video content for their training and will be joining them in Fiji. It's been a super cool ride and totally worth the insane investment.

This is how Russell Brunson built a $100 million dollar company.

To top it off, he achieved this feat in just 3 years, proving that he is an online marketing expert. However, it's important to understand that Russell's success didn't happen overnight. Like many other successful entrepreneurs, he had many failures along the way, but he never gave up. If you are a business owner, I encourage you to check out his software, ClickFunnels. It has literally helped tens of thousands of entrepreneurs, including myself, quickly get their message out to their audience.

Entrepreneurship can feel messy sometimes.

If you are an entrepreneur, you know exactly what I mean. It can be really stressful to juggle so many roles at one time. This is especially true if you don't already have a business background, going into the entrepreneurial game.

Let's face it… entrepreneurship also brings with it a high risk of failure. According to research by Shikhar Ghosh, a Harvard Business School lecturer, three out of four venture-backed startups fail. Despite this reality, there are still a lot of people who push through the discomfort and decide that they will not give up, no matter how hard life knocks them down. Trevor Turnbull is one of those people.

I'm sure you've had a few FML moments in your business or in life in general. When shit hits the fan, it's easy to fall into victim mode and say, “Why do bad things continue happening to me?” For the longest time, Trevor had this mindset. For many years he experienced a series of challenges, comprised of failed businesses and financial stresses. He knew, first hand, what it meant to feel frustrated, stressed and overworked as a solopreneur.

Eventually, he hit his emotional threshold (as most of us do) and decided that he was ready to change his life. In 2003, Trevor got his first sales job. Back then, cold calling was the golden ticket for generating new business opportunities. The focus was on connecting with people, in-person, at networking events. However, in the last ten years, the business game has changed.

Social media has transformed the digital landscape.

Technology has literally taken over, leaving a lot of solopreneurs not knowing how to market themselves. Many of them are wearing a lot of different hats in their businesses while trying to build a team and maintain some sort of life balance. Eventually, this way of living catches up with them. Being a solopreneur himself, Trevor experienced this frustration firsthand. He saw a need and he took action, deciding that it was time to turn his mess into his message.

Today, Trevor is the CEO of Linked Into Leads, a company that empowers solopreneurs and business leaders to generate leads and sales for their business by leveraging the power of LinkedIn. He has developed a proven system for removing the barriers that solopreneurs experience so that they feel empowered to build authentic relationships with their prospective clients. His ability to get his clients' massive sales results (who have closed millions in new business) has led to him to be known as “The LinkedIn Guy.”

Trevor is also the Founder of Expert Selling Machine, a company that empowers expert entrepreneurs to land high-value clients without having to attend networking events or get overwhelmed by technology. This allows people to work on their business instead of in it so that they can focus their time on activities that will bring them the biggest return on investment.

The acronym that Trevor used to define his life by – FML – has taken on a new meaning.

Instead of it being something negative, today it represents the words, family, mission, legacy. His mission is to inspire others to learn from his mistakes so that they can create a business and a life that is in alignment with their core values. In the words of Trevor, “It's not about feeling better. It's about getting better at feeling.” Here is a sneak peek of my interview with him, where he talks about how he turned his mess into his message. Let's dive in!

Do you mind sharing what you went through in order to get to where you are today?

Everyone will experience highs and lows in life. It's normal. Your life and your values will change over time. I've seen this happen first hand. It was really challenging for me to go through this process. I used to try and create a perfect persona of who I thought I was supposed to be. However, over time, I realized that being a vulnerable and honest person is what allowed me to attract exactly what I needed into my life.

My mess is truly my message. For the last ten years, I am best known as a LinkedIn trainer. We've had 27,000 people go through our training. I've been an entrepreneur for 15 years and I've had a lot of failures along my journey. I started numerous business ventures. Some of them were successful, while others were not.

Even though I was selling information online, people weren't getting the results that we hoped for.

About one year ago, I decided that I was no longer going to sell informational products. About two weeks later, my wife and I had a son who was born 16 weeks early. Anyone who is a parent knows that this is insane. We had been through something similar with our first child who was born six weeks early. We lost a child around the same time one year before this. Needless to say, things in my life were chaotic.

While this was all happening, I had launched a new mentoring model that I was fully committed to. My wife and I were driving to and from the hospital, spending 2-3 hours there every day. At the same time, I was bringing on new clients and moving through the growing pains of that, as well as building up my team.

This is where FML comes into play. I used to say that phrase to myself a lot. The thought was, “Why can't I just get a break?”

I realized that this mindset was holding me back so I decided to reframe it. I started to think about how my failures were actually working in my favor. Actually, they were allowing me to take my life to the next level. When I was building my personal website, I thought about three words that define myself. The first one was “family”, the second one was “mission”, and the third one was “legacy”.

That is when I realized that it spelled out FML.

At first, I thought, “I can't use that. It's contradictory to what I'm trying to teach people.” However, I knew that FML didn't have to be a victim story. If I could help people shift the meaning behind the words, it could be a more empowering way of thinking about success.

What is your advice to someone who currently has a 9 to 5 job but that wants to build a business?

When I reflect on the path that has led me to where I am today, I realize that everything happened exactly as it should have. As an entrepreneur, you have to go through the ups and downs. It's how you see the downs that matter most. It's a constant practice of realizing that whatever path you are on, is perfect. I would recommend that you invest money into an informational product so that you can obtain the right knowledge.

Also, it's important to find great people who can help show you the way. You have to trust that you're going to get to where you need to go. I recently wrote an article for Entrepreneur.com titled, What 7 Deaths Taught Me About Living. Some of them were actual deaths that my family and I experienced. For example, my wife and I lost two babies, pre-term birth, at 19 and 23 weeks. It put us into a tailspin for a couple of years. However, now we have two beautiful children.

They wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for those traumatic experiences.

What seemed to be the most devastating thing that could have possibly happened to us turned into our greatest blessing. I wrote about other things in the article, like going through a bad divorce. During this time, everything in my life felt like it was falling apart. Even worse, I got to a point where I was sleeping on my Mom's couch at the age of 35 years old. I remember thinking to myself, “How could my life get any worse than this?” Everything that happens in your life happens for a reason.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in finding a mentor?

One of the key things that we focus on in our program is to not constantly be talking about financial results. Instead, sharing real stories of where you started and how far you've come. Focus on a couple of people whom you admire from a personal perspective in terms of how they show up in the world every single day. Seek out your mentors, but know that they will probably change over time as you and your values evolve.

How could someone use LinkedIn to generate leads for their business?

I created a system called, the SOLO Funnel that was named for two reasons. Solo stands for solopreneur, meaning that it's built for people who run their own businesses. Typically, they are “the show.” Of course, solo also symbolizes the importance of doing one thing at a time. Don't get overwhelmed about hosting life events, joining a Mastermind Group, or writing a book. Aspire to package your knowledge and create passive income for yourself.

However, if you have expertise in a specific area, you should start with a higher ticket service.

In our program, we teach people how to use LinkedIn as their main lead source. Oftentimes, it's the one tool that a lot of Baby Boomers are comfortable using. They don't want to be on Instagram or on YouTube. Leveraging LinkedIn is all about building funnels that lead a person towards a phone call or a face-to-face connection.

We have a downloadable PDF that shows people how to break down LinkedIn from a search perspective so that you can find your perfect audience. From there, we show you how to filter people into specific types of funnels, starting with an appointment campaign. Ultimately, the end goal is to teach you how to sell whatever it is that you sell. We strive to support solopreneurs to build sustainable businesses, to the point where they are making 10k+ per month.

What is the last message that you would like to leave people with?

Don't be ashamed to share your story of how you've gotten to where you are today. You don't need to give out the persona of perfection. In fact, people don't believe that anymore. They want to see your flaws and know the challenges you've overcome along your road to success.

I'm trying to serve as an example.

I can tell you that entrepreneurship is not easy. I talk constantly about the idea of done being better than perfect. Allow yourself and your business to grow and adapt as you go. Share your genius with the world and allow the right people to come to you. That is how you will achieve success.

After reading this, do you now think you have an entrepreneurial mindset?

As Trevor expressed, the path to building a successful business takes time. You will experience challenges and failures along the way. However, don't let them stop you. Being an entrepreneur has allowed Trevor and I to be our own bosses, travel the world, and spend more time with our families, friends and loved ones. More importantly, it has allowed us to share our gifts with the world. I hope Trevor's story has inspired you to tap into the entrepreneurial spirit that lies inside of you.

The question is…. are you ready to turn your mess into your message?
