Peak performers have mastered the art of execution.

Todd Herman has mentored Olympic athletes, CEOs, public figures, performers, and leaders tap into their “alter egos.” He teaches people strategies and tools for how they can master their mental game so that they are able to compete with confidence and win at life.

The path to peak performance looks different for everyone. However, there is one thing that all peak performers have in common – they have mastered their craft by mastering their mindset. Studies of peak performance by K. Anders Ericcson have shown that it takes about 10, 000 hours of study, practice, and preparation to become an expert. This has now been shown across multiple fields of performance.

In my work, I have had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing a lot of peak performers.

A common theme I've noticed is that they thrive in life because they have committed to practicing daily mental habits of success. When times get tough, they refuse to give up. They bring their “A” game to everything that they do and strive to be the best that they can be. Here is a sneak peek of my interview with Todd Herman where we talk about how to create a heroic alter ego to transform your life.

Do you mind sharing your story and how you’ve been able to work with some of the world’s top performers?

I live in NYC now. However, I grew up on a farm and ranch in Western Canada. When I was younger I loved sports. I was always trying to keep up with my older brothers. Over the course of time, I excelled at a couple of different sports. I managed to get myself a college football scholarship and played football for a few years. I'm not a physically gifted person. I'm not 6″4 and 250 pounds. My greatest superpower was my mental game approach.

I played bigger than I was. After I finished playing I started coaching young athletes. These people started getting great results. Eventually, that transformed into a successful business. I developed the mental strength that I have today from a really bad experience that I had when I was 12 years old. I was sexually assaulted by two men over the course of a couple of days at a church camp. That experience ruined me. I had so much shame and guilt. When I was growing up I attempted suicide multiple times. I didn't share anything with anybody for over 31 years.

A year a half ago, I told my wife and good friend that I was sexually assaulted.

I was grabbing onto anything that would help me navigate my way through life. Over time, I created an alter ego. It helped me suspend my own disbelief about what I could do in order to get out of my narrative and step into a different self. This is what allowed me to continue doing the things that I wanted to do. There are a lot of people in this world who have experienced tough times in life which is why they've been able to relate to my story

A lot of people carry around layers of fear and trauma that hold them back. While they may know that it doesn't serve them, they don't know how to release themselves from it. If you hold onto a disempowering narrative it is impossible to move forward in life. However, when you start using your creative imagination, you give yourself permission to tap into the person who you really are.

This is the moment at which you are able to shift yourself out of a disempowering narrative. You are inside the bottle of your own life. Because of this, it can be really hard to read the label. By playing with different identities, you can shapeshift and start getting the things that you want. It's important to know that this doesn't mean that you are inauthentic or deceptive. Shapeshifting is all about you untapping the aspects of yourself that are already present.

Sometimes we have a tough time seeing ourselves do something.

However, we are still able to see other people do it. There is actually a powerful frame that you have found that you can use to perform at a higher level. The reason why I've been so successful working with people to transform their levels of performance is that I don't invent new things. I'm simply trying to find an existing phenomenon that lives inside of the psychology of how humans are built. Once I accomplish this, I strive to leverage it.

I've helped pro athletes, executives, and leaders all around the world develop alter egos. There isn't a continent that I haven't touched. I ask people if they are willing to accept a new idea of what they can or cannot do. If they are willing, I can work with them. If not, they stay trapped where you are. It's impossible for you to act and create a result if it wasn't already inside of you.

There is a great quote that I share in my book from Cary Grant. He said, “I pretended to be somebody that I wanted to be and I became that person, or he became me, but we met at some point.”

Our only superpower as human beings is the creative imagination.

It's the one thing that truly separates us from other beings on the planet. We have the power to create new selves all of the time. I'm not trying to fix broken people. This is a terrible paradigm for helping people. I treat people as whole beings. My job is to peel away all of the stuff that no longer serves you so that you are free to become the person you've always wanted to be.

How can people activate their heroic alter ego?

The first place to start is the context. You are always building an identity for a field of play. This is the healthiest thing that you can do. What I'm about to say will confront some people's beliefs about what it means to be a whole self. For the longest time, the world of psychology held the belief that people with optimal mental health were those who had a single self that they identified with. The reality is that we have a single body. However, my body carries many selves.

The multiple self-theory is now the fastest growing area of study n psychology. It is now understood that the people who have and identify with multiple identities, based on context (ie. me as a business person, friend, husband, etc.) are the people who have good mental health.

I work with high-achievers and high-performers all day long.

I bring out my challenger personality when I'm working with clients and trying to break old paradigms and push them forward in life. However, the last thing that my children want is a challenger personality when I get home. How do you think that works for people when you bring that self home? It creates a ton of problems. Your wife or husband isn't going to like it. They want fun and playful Dad. I know that those qualities live inside of me. If I don't, I instantly defy what it means to be a human being.

In the 20 years that you’ve worked with peak performers, what are some key beliefs that you’ve observed?

The alter ego helps us show up in full form. One of the top soccer players in the world has been a client of mine. He has a fundamental frame of mind that he's offended by the people who show up on the field. He believes that they shouldn't be sharing the grass with him, so to speak. He's not saying this in the press conference. However, he believes this to be true.

Because of this belief, his line of thinking is, “I am going to destroy you on the field.”

When you think about this mindset in the context of performance, it definitely helps him perform at a peak level. He has a fantastic ability to live in context. On the pitch, it worked for him. However, when that attitude spread outside of the field into his personal life, it didn't work so well. I helped him evolve that identity into being more than just who he was on the field.

Entrepreneurs fall prey to this as well. They only describe themselves as entrepreneurs. Is that all of your identity? I'm an entrepreneur, but I'm also a Dad, a lover, and a husband. There are so many people that I get to be.

How do peak performers develop an unwavering belief in themselves and their abilities?

I've come across a lot of people who could easily be the best in the world at their craft. However, there is some sort of block that they have that holds them back. All they are doing is chopping down their own tree and diminishing their confidence. Peak performers constantly up level the people around them. They understand that having great quality people in their lives is only going to help serve them in moving forward.

The dumbest decision that I made was wanting to climb the mountain of success on my own.

I wanted to plant that flag at the top and show everyone else that I could do it. It was stupid, slow and arrogant of me. It wasn't until I got into mentorship at a young age that I got it. I realized that it was so much easier and more enjoyable. I could pick up the phone and call someone who has already done what I want to do.

Harvey Dorfman was my mentor. He's known as the Yoda of baseball. One of the greatest mental game coaches ever. He wrote the Bible of the industry. I tucked myself under his wing for 33 days. He started passing me pro clients almost immediately. It would have taken me a lot longer to create that kind of success. Even more, I got to see him work with some of the biggest pros of all time. All of a sudden, I started seeing what their big issues were. It wasn't even the stuff on the field. Rather, it was 80% of their mental game.

You want to surround yourself with great people.

When I was leaving the farm my Mom said to me, “Whatever you want to do, just find whoever is the best at it and learn from them.” I've always had that mindset. It's how I choose the vendors, suppliers, and partners that we work with. Having amazing mentors and allies is very important.

However, you've also got to do the internal work to grow and become more.

The root of this concept was first penned by Marcus Tullius Cicero, who was a great Roman philosopher and statesman. In 44 B.C., he wrote a letter to a friend and said, “The alter ego is the other eye or trusted friend.” The alter ego becomes the ally that helps you go and do!

Can you share your thoughts on the importance of goal-setting?

Everyone knows why goal-setting is important. Over the course of 90 days, in the context of one area, you should only have one goal. This is what will allow you to organize so much of your focus, time, and resources. The enemy to performance is more. Working on 8 different projects or starting 3 different businesses is impossible. This will never get you to where you want to go. It's about subtraction, deletion, and removal. Move towards one goal. This will help you make a decision around your other projects.

Can you tell people more about your 90 Day Year program?

The 90 Day Year program is what I use with athletes to help them scale up their skills fast. I focus on the one skill that, if we worked on this, is going to bring your performance up by a magnitude of many degrees. Most athletes work at multiple skills at once. This ends up slowing you down, whereas focusing on one skill is powerful. When I started getting asked to work in the corporate world, I saw how many things people were working on.

I realized that I needed to help these people strip things away.

Inside our program, we start with a diagnostic that runs through the 5 main pillars of business – marketing/sales, products, operations/technology, finance, and people/leadership. Every business has these pillars. We ask people questions about each pillar. The powerful part of this process is that you start to diagnose for yourself what is the most important thing for you to be working on in your business.

The moment it becomes your idea, you will own it. However, if I'm telling you to do it, you may argue against it. Peak performance is about developing a plan of action from where you are standing right now. This allows us to plot a path forward, for you. Success is all about sequencing – doing the right thing at the right time.

What inspired you to write your new book?

I've been working with the concept of the alter ego for 16 years now. It was always my secret sauce. It's what I've been known for in the elite sports industry. I told a mutual friend of ours, Tucker Max about my idea. He said that I was an idiot if I didn't write a book. I'm dyslexic which is one of the big reasons why I never wanted to write. It took me a few years to unpack it and put it together but I'm happy I did. I ended up signing with Harper Collins. My editor is a superstar and he pulled a great book out of me.

Are you ready to create a heroic alter ego to transform your life?

There’s only one person in the way of you unleashing your true potential in life, and that person is you. Get out of your own way so that you can become a peak performer in every area of your life. The hero inside of you is waiting to be unleashed. Now is the time to step into your power and become the best version of yourself.

In the words of Todd himself, “Our ability to truly tap into our creative imagination so that we can do the things that we most want to do, or experiment with different parts of our self, is truly unique to us and an alter ego helps to untap that.”

I would like to share with you 5 tricks on how to sleep better and wake up with unstoppable energy. Do you get enough sleep, or do you wake up feeling constantly tired and drained? If so, you aren’t alone.

Sleep seems like a very simple thing, but it's an undervalued activity. In today’s stress-induced, technology driven, coffee addicted world, it’s more important than ever before.

All of these stimulants interfere with our natural sleep/wake cycle. Unfortunately, a lot of people suffer from chronic lack of sleep.

New research suggests that a good night's rest isn't a luxury – it's critical for your brain and for your health.

A good night’s sleep is essential to optimal health. Are you ready to wake up every day feeling energized and refreshed on an emotional, mental, and physical level?

I always thought, because I got 7-8 hours of sleep every night, I was set. However, it wasn’t until I purchased an OURA ring that I realized that I wasn’t getting enough deep sleep.

The OURA ring, otherwise known as the world’s first ring-size wellness computer, is a high-performance activity and sleep tracker.

When you are sleeping there are three different sleep cycles that you go through – deep, REM, and light. Deep sleep is the most restorative and beneficial form of sleep.

With the OURA ring, I am able to track my sleeping patterns, and what I found was that my deep sleep was really low.

You want to have up to 2 hours of deep sleep every night. The OURA ring showed me that, some nights, I was only getting 10-20 minutes of deep sleep.

I took a step back and asked myself, “Why is it that I sleep for 8 hours, but still move throughout my day feeling tired?”

It’s not just about quantity of your sleep that matters. The quality of your sleep is just as important, if not more.

Research shows that sleep deprivation can be a possible risk factor for serious physical conditions, including heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and suppression of the immune system. This proves the importance that sleep plays in the impact of our overall health and well-being.

You spend one-third of your life sleeping, so you want to make sure that you are doing it right! Sleep has the power to transform your entire life. Literally.

Below are 5 tips on how to sleep better and wake up with unstoppable energy. I’ve personally tested all of these things and they’ve made a huge difference in my life:

1. Swannies Blue Blocker Sunglasses

I wear Swannies Blue Blocker sunglasses in the evening time. Their purpose is to block out the harmful lights and rays that prevent my body from releasing melatonin and falling asleep. If you use your phone, watch TV, or are using your computer at night, turn these off a few hours before bed.

2. Sleep Master Sleep Mask

This is like a pillow for your face. The Sleep Master sleep mask helps with light elimination AND sound reduction.

It’s really important to make sure that your room is pitch black when you go to sleep. In fact, Arianna Huffington wrote a book called, Sleep Revolution: Transforming Your Life, One Night at a Time. She swears by it when she travels.

3. ChiliPad

The ChiliPad is a mattress pad with a cooling and heating temperature control system that allows you to cool or heat the temperature of your mattress so that you will never be too hot or too cold.

This is important because the temperature that you sleep at effects the quality of your deep sleep. This is a great product to use if you sleep with a partner, given that research shows 95% of partners enjoy different temperature levels when they sleep.

4. PEMFs

PEMF Mat is a portable mat that produces pulsed electromagnetic fields around an individual’s body. This field then delivers healing energy to the body by producing negative ions and far infrared waves.

Another great alternative is the Earth Pulse sleep machine, which utilizes electrically generated pulsed electromagnetic fields to program the brain toward deep sleep. Both of these products have helped to drastically improve my sleep.

5. Melatonin, CBD, or GABA supplements

Melatonin is a hormone in the body that regulates your cycle of sleeping and waking. It is a great supplement to use if you are jet lagged, because it resets your wake cycle. That being said, I suggest you make an effort to regulate your sleep cycle naturally as much as possible.

Cannabidiol, or CBD oil, as it is commonly referred to, works with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is responsible for all the homeostatic functions of the body. CBD can be extremely effective in regulating your REM sleep.

Lastly, GABA is a neuroinhibitory transmitter, which is what your brain uses in order to shut itself down at the end of the day. Any of these supplements are great options for achieving a better sleep.

How To Sleep Better

The healing power of sleep cannot be ignored. I suggest that you follow these 5 tricks on how to sleep better and wake up with unstoppable energy.

They will make a drastic improvement in your energy levels throughout the day and your overall mood. Sleep supports your mind, body, and spirit.

The post 3 Steps For Breaking Bad Habits appeared first on Project Life Mastery.

]]>

I would like to share with you 3 steps for breaking bad habits. Everyone has bad habits that are hard to kick, whether that's smoking, eating fast food, or consuming alcohol. Bad habits are a sure way to slow you down and decrease your productivity. When you allow a bad habit to take over your life, you inhibit your opportunities for success.

In his popular book, The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and BusinessCharles Duhigg cites a study from Duke University that shows that 40-45% of our daily actions are actually habits. Your daily actions make you who you are and determine how you choose to move throughout your life. What do your habits say about you?

One study found that people who exercise a high degree of self-control tend to be much happier than those who don’t, both in the moment and in the long run (Bradberry, 2017). If you want to be successful in life, you need to break bad habits. Doing so requires a large amount of willpower and self-control, but it all starts with developing a mastery mindset.

Are you ready to learn how to create new habits that will help you master your day? CLICK HERE to purchase my Morning Ritual Mastery Course!

Here are 3 steps for breaking bad habits:

1. Commit to Change

If you want to break any bad habit, you need to first commit to making a change. By nature, we are creatures of habit. Change makes us feel uncomfortable. Leo Babauta, author of the blog, Zen Habits, is a fan of tackling one habit change at a time. Be kind to yourself. It takes a lot of energy and willpower to unlearn a behaviour.

The more that you engage in a bad habit – like smoking, gossiping, or surfing the web – the harder it is to change that habit. When you decide which bad habits you want to change, make sure that your goals for doing so are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bounded).

2. Discover The Cause

Once you have committed to changing your bad habits, you need to discover what it is that causes you to take part in them in the first place. Have you ever made a decision to break a bad habit and then you fail? The resulting emotion is often guilt, which is a horrible feeling. Next time this happens, ask yourself, “What rewards am I receiving from engaging in these bad habits?”

This will require you to dig deep, go inward, and do some soul-searching. Change will not be possible until you do so. Once you know what cue triggers your bad habits, and what reward you are receiving from them, you then need to build new habits, in order to replace the bad ones.

3. Create A Ritual

The best way to break a bad habit is to replace it with a good one, which is where the power of a morning ritual comes into play. The most successful people in the world have morning rituals. The mornings set the tone for how the rest of your day will unfold. When I do my morning ritual, I feel unstoppable.

Imagine how great it would feel if you could be more productive, have more energy, and be happier on a daily basis. When you take the time to honour yourself every morning, your entire day will transform. If you are consistent with your morning ritual, you will eventually break your bad habits.

John C. Maxwell said it best – “You will never change your life until you change something that you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” Are you ready to change your bad habits, and replace them with healthy, empowering ones? There is no better time than today to get started!

5 Steps To Setting Life-Changing Intentions https://projectlifemastery.com/setting-life-changing-intentions/ https://projectlifemastery.com/setting-life-changing-intentions/#respond Wed, 31 May 2017 13:09:32 +0000 http://projectlifemastery.com/?p=6279 An intention is the beginning point of every goal or dream. The post 5 Steps To Setting Life-Changing Intentions appeared first on Project Life Mastery.

]]>

I want to share with you 5 steps to setting life-changing intentions. Are you feeling stuck or not sure how to achieve what you desire in life? If so, you need to start harnessing the power of intentions. Everything that happens in life begins with an intention. It is the starting point of every goal or dream.

An intention is a mental state that reflects a commitment to achieving an action in the future. In essence, it is the creative fuel that satisfies every one of our desires; whether that is for a loving relationship, more money, spiritual guidance, or best of all self-love. When you set an intention, you are utilizing the power of the Law of Attraction so that the Universe can work its magic.

Everything you need and desire is inside of you. Get out of your own way and learn how to tap into the finite potential that resides in you. In the words of Wayne Dyer, “By banishing doubt and trusting your intuitive feelings, you clear a space for the power of intention to flow through.” Are you ready to create the reality that you desire?

Do you want to learn how to create a morning ritual that will help you manifest your intentions? CLICK HERE to purchase my Morning Ritual Mastery course!

By setting intentions, you pave the way for success and happiness in your life. Here are 5 steps to setting life-changing intentions:

1. Create a Morning Ritual

Morning rituals are an amazing way to connect to your inner self and set your intentions for the day. Someone once said, “Some days I feel like I can conquer the world. Other days it takes me 3 hours to convince myself to have a shower.” Can you relate? If so, you aren't alone. Bad habits are hard to break, but if you want to be successful in life, you need to be consistent, because we are defined by what we do every day.

If you don't wake up every day feeling energized, passionate, and excited about your life, it's time to create a ritual. I am living proof that a morning ritual is one of the most powerful ways to manifest your intentions and transform your life. Research shows your mood in the morning affects your productivity all day (Cooper, 2016). When I take time every morning to honour myself and my needs, it sets the tone for how I feel for the rest of the day.

2. Surrender to Resistance

Many people associate surrendering with giving up, but it's actually the opposite. Control is rooted in fear. Nothing positive grows in that space. If you want to manifest your intentions, you need to surrender to what is and let go of control. Always remember that whatever you resist, persists.

Don't try to fight the Universe, because it always wins. Detach yourself from the outcome and find your flow in life. When you do, you will attract what you desire most. In the words of Mooji, “Surrender is not a weakness; it is a strength. It takes tremendous strength to surrender life to the supreme – to the cosmic unfolding.”

3. Think Less, Feel More

When you are too attached to your thoughts and ‘in your head', you aren't able to make authentic decisions from your heart. When you feel as if you have already manifested your intentions, that is when the real magic happens. Why? Because the Universe responds to your thoughts in conjunction with your feelings.

You will not experience true alignment until you listen to your heart. That is where the truth lies. Following your heart is the secret to a fulfilled life. In the words of Denise Linn, “Shift the focus from what you want to do, to how you want to feel.”

4. Get Clear and Be Specific

If you aren't clear and specific about what your intentions are, how do you expect to bring it into your reality? This is where a lot of people get stuck. Are you attracting what you want into your life? If not, you need to be more aware of your thoughts and tailor words in a more positive way. For example, the words, “I will” are more definite than “I hope to” (Schwartz, 2017). The first attracts what you will do, but the second keeps you hopeful.

Know what it is that you want and make a plan to achieve it. If you’re not attracting what you want into your life, you need to monitor your thoughts more and use more positive, affirming language. Clear intentions lead to clear results. The Universe responds the best to certainty.

5. Visualize

One of the best ways to manifest your intention is to visualize yourself actually already having what it is that you want. Psychologists and therapists highlight the importance of VAK — visuals, audio, and kinesthetic modalities — in shaping our mind (Nguyen, 2015). Visualization is a powerful intention-setting tool that helps us align with our purpose and create the life of our dreams. The power of the mind is beyond recognition. When you start to visualize what you want in your life, you begin to see the possibility of achieving it. It creates momentum and inspiration to take massive action. There is no better recipe for success.

I challenge you to follow these 5 steps to setting life-changing intentions. Anything of value in this world requires intention. Setting goals isn't enough. When you set intentions, it allows you to focus on and be in alignment with your values. Furthermore, it raises your emotional energy, which in turn raises your physical energy (Tabaka, 2016). If you want to master your life, commit to setting life-changing intentions. Your dreams will thank you for it.

I want to share with you why it is important to raise your consciousness and serve a purpose greater than yourself. By definition, consciousness is the state or quality of awareness. In essence, life is a journey of growth, from a state of unconsciousness to consciousness. You may be wondering, “What does it mean to raise your consciousness, and how do I do it?”

When you begin to have more purposeful, altruistic, and meaningful experiences in life, you start to raise your consciousness and serve a purpose greater than yourself. Make it a priority to consciously transform the direction of your life towards greater awareness of who you are and what your ‘why’ is. When you do, you will begin the greatest journey of your life.

In the words of Eckhart Tolle, “Life will give you whatever experience is the most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness.” What actions can you take today in order to raise your consciousness?

Unfortunately a lot of people are egocentric and choose to only focus on their individual needs and desires. As a result, they never experience true happiness or success in life. By caring for others, you in turn care for yourself. I do what I do in life because I genuinely care about people; whether that’s a follower, a subscriber, or a stranger.

I want to help people thrive in life. If I can play a small role in someone’s personal growth and development, I am fulfilled. The quickest way to achieve success in life is to help others succeed first. That is the true path to achieving life mastery. In contrast, unsuccessful people are always wondering, “What’s in it for me?” This is a scarcity mindset that only results in a life of fear and suffering.

Don’t be driven by the need for personal gratification. Instead, choose to adopt an abundance mindset, because the more you give, the more you will receive. I have been able to achieve so much success in my life because I care – it is my greatest power and ultimate gift. It has made me who I am.

I wake up every day driven to achieve more, so that I can give more. I’m always thinking to myself, “How can I add more value and serve the world?” The happiest people are givers, not getters. I choose to give. That is what has inspired me to build homes for families in need, give money to charities, volunteer my time, and help people that are suffering. The return? I raise my consciousness. There is no better gift in the world.

Raise your consciousness and serve a purpose greater than yourself. By making the commitment to live from a place of compassion and genuine caring for others, you attract amazing things into your life and feel a sense of fulfillment that is beyond description.

In the words of Albert Einstein, “No problem can be solved by the same level of consciousness that created it.” Raise your consciousness so that you can become free to connect to your highest self.

There is a HUGE difference between an abundance mindset vs. scarcity mindset. The path that your life takes depends, in part, on the mindset that you adopt. You can choose to either view the world as abundant or scarce, but they cannot co-exist.

The abundance mindset flows out of a deep inner sense of personal worth and security. It is a paradigm that is grounded in the belief that ‘there is more than enough’ for everyone. Alternatively, a scarcity mindset is the belief that there will never be enough, resulting in feelings of fear, stress, and anxiety.

In his book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change, Stephen Covey explains that when you live in a world of scarcity, you compete for available resources, even when there is an abundance of them. What type of mindset do you ascribe to? One mindset will imprison you, while the other one will set you free.

I am a firm believer that if you choose to adopt a character that is rich in abundance, you will become a master of your life. The beauty of life is that at any given moment, you have the power to change your life. If you choose to make the mental shift, from a place of scarcity to one of abundance, you will transform your entire life.

I am living proof that this works. Years ago I possessed a scarcity mindset and it negatively impacted me on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level. Once I made the decision to change my mindset, and walk the path of abundance, great things started happening.

I’ve observed a lot of people in my work and in my life that are consumed by a scarcity mindset, so much so that it holds them back from living to their full potential. In particular, I see a lot of examples of people that have incredible external abundance, but that live in a state of fear.

They have a lose-win mindset, which says that, ‘there is only so much pie to go around, and if you get some, there will be less for me.’ Adopting this mode of thinking only results in a life of fear, stress, and anxiety.

Below are 3 differences of an abundance vs. scarcity mindset:

Take a Risk vs. Play it Safe

Those with an abundance mindset understand that in order to grow, you need to get out of your comfort zone and take a risk in order to achieve their goals. They welcome change and see it as an opportunity to grow and expand. Those with a scarcity mindset are fret by fear. They think small and avoid risk at all costs.

Plenty vs. Deficit

A person with an abundance mindset believes that there is always more of everything in life, whether that’s money, relationships, resources, opportunities, etc. Alternatively, someone with a scarcity mentality lives in fear that they are going to lose their time or money. Because they believe that there will never be enough, they are in constant competition to ‘stay on top’.

Positive vs. Negative

A person with an abundance mindset focuses on the limitless possibilities that exist in life. They choose to think in positive terms about everything that happens in life, good or bad. As a result of this way of thinking, they attract amazing experiences and opportunities into their lives. Alternatively, someone with a scarcity mindset always dwells on what isn’t working in his/her life. They adopt a victim mentality and blame others for their failures, instead of taking responsibility for their actions.

These are some of the differences between an abundance vs. scarcity mindset. Do you think you are suffering from a place of scarcity or abundance? If you are living from a scarcity mindset it’s time to make a shift. How? Start with your beliefs. Focus on giving more, whether that’s your money, your time, or your love.

For example, one of my rituals involves giving. I do a lot of philanthropy work that inspires me to live from a place of abundance every day. The more that you give, the more you will receive. Another option is to take a leap of faith and hire a coach, find a mentor, or attend a seminar or event that will inspire you to change your mindset.

Allow for more abundance to flow into your life. If you do so, the end result will be life mastery. William James said it best – “The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of mind.” When you adopt an abundance mindset, your life will change forever.
