Self discipline is the one character trait that all successful people share in common.

Being able to stay on track with your goals is essential to your long-term success in life. Have you ever made a promise to yourself that you didn't keep? A lot of people struggle with self discipline.

Changing old habits takes time, commitment and consistency. The good news is that self discipline is a learned behavior that can be developed.

Are you ready to learn how you can master this trait and start getting more done?

Do you struggle with self discipline?

If so, you aren't alone. For a lot of people, self discipline can feel like a chore, something that they know they should do, but don't want to do. At the end of the day, it comes down to making a commitment to put off your immediate desires in favor of long-term rewards.

Why is self discipline so difficult to achieve? In his book, The Chimp Paradox: The Mind Management Program to Help You Achieve Success, Confidence, and Happiness, Dr. Steve Peters gives us an explanation. He explains that our emotional mind simply stops us from behaving in a way that will allow us to achieve our ideal state. Self discipline gives you the ability to overcome your emotional mind by moving forward with action.

There are two kinds of people in this world – the master vs. the dabbler. The master is somebody that commits to everything and follows through, whereas the dabbler starts things but never finishes them. Which are you? A lot of people aren't willing to do what it takes in order to make their dreams come true.

Just like any other skill that you want to master, self discipline requires daily effort, willpower, practice, and repetition. Some days you will feel super motivated and committed, while other days you won't want to do anything. All that matters is that you make progress.

Whatever you want to create in life will require that you possess an insane amount of self-control. There is no room for laziness or procrastination on the climb to the top.  In the words of Theodore Rooselvelt, “With self discipline, almost anything is possible.”

Here are 8 powerful ways to master self discipline.

1. Set Clear Goals

When it comes to achieving goals, a lot of people talk a good game but don't know how to follow through. As a result, they aren't able to move forward in life. If you want to achieve self discipline, you've got to have a clear direction of where you are going.

Without a map, it's easy to get lost. Define what your goals mean to you and how you will go about achieving them. If you set vague goals, you will produce vague outcomes. This is why I encourage people to follow the SMART philosophy, which are goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely.

Setting goals that are aligned with this acronym will help you structure your goals in ways that ensure you will achieve them. With any goal that you set, you need to be able to see tangible progress with them, or else your self discipline will wane.

2. Remove Distractions

Sustained concentration is key to getting anything done. Studies show that when we check something our mind requires about 23 minutes of refocusing time to get back on task. If you want to become more self disciplined, I encourage you to remove all distractions.

Make a plan for how you are going to make the things that you crave less available to you. Doing so will reduce the number of times that you feel tempted to cheat on yourself. For example, if you are trying to lose weight, buy healthy food and make it at home. Similarly, if you want to improve your productivity, turn off all technology so that you can get into a flow state.

3. Create Healthy Habits

We've all got bad habits. However, when these bad habits prevent you from achieving success in life, you know that it's time to make a change. I’m a big believer that your habits are a powerful tool for shaping your behavior. Your life is the sum of what you do every single day.

Tom Bilyeu said it best, Taking action is what creates excellence: doing what must be done every single day. No amount of meditation, contemplation, or dreaming will take the place of doing.”

Are you waking up every day with the intention of setting yourself up to win? A lot of people wake up and immediately starting engaging in reactive behaviors, like rushing out the door, eating quickly, etc. In this state of mind, it's easy to fall into conditioned patterns of behavior and lose your discipline and motivation.

A disciplined mind is one that acknowledges the reasons for waking up early. If you want to be super productive, you've got to start your day off right. For me, this means creating an empowering morning ritual where I take care of my mind, body, and soul. Through engaging in success habits, I condition my mindset for success and develop the mental strength that I need to withstand challenges and adversity.

4. Choose Your Environment Wisely

If you want to change yourself, you've first got to change your environment. Your surroundings have a huge impact on the type of person that you become. If you surround yourself with negative people who are lazy and constantly complaining, that energy will rub off on you. You will find yourself struggling to develop the self discipline that you need in order to achieve your goals.

Take a close look at your friends and determine whether or not these people are lifting you up or bringing you down. Jim Rohn once said that “You become the 5 people that you surround yourself with.” If those 5 people lack drive and ambition, they will only drag you down.

I encourage you to create an environment that supports your goals and dreams. When you do, it will be easier for you to practice healthy habits that serve your highest self. As someone once said, “If you make sure that your environment supports your dreams, achieving your dreams becomes radically easier. Whatever you are surrounded by all day – influences you more than you think.”

5. Take Responsibility For Your Life

People who make excuses and who don't take ownership of their choices in life are usually the ones who struggle with self discipline. You are responsible for everything that has happened in your life, both good and bad. A lot of people wait for someone to come along and make difficult decisions for them.

Only you can save you. If you find yourself falling into the blame game and playing the victim, you will never be able to achieve great things in life. You are your own limit. I guarantee that there are no successful people in this world that play the blame game. Instead, they only focus on what is in their control. Instead of complaining about what is going wrong, take action and find a solution.

In his book, No Excuses!: The Power of Self-Discipline, Brian Tracy says, “Your ability to think, plan, and work hard in the short term and to discipline yourself to do what is right and necessary before you do what is fun and easy is the key to creating a wonderful future for yourself.”

If you are struggling to stay motivated, this is one of the best self discipline books to read. It will inspire you to hold yourself responsible for a higher standard of living.

6. Reward Yourself

It's hard to stay disciplined if you never get rewarded for it. When you accomplish a goal, celebrate yourself. Doing so will increase the likelihood that you will stay motivated and work harder.

When you take the time to acknowledge the small milestones that you took towards your goals, you strengthen those actions even more. This is how positive habits stick. Conversely, if you fail to reward yourself, it's your way of telling your mind that there is zero pleasure from engaging in this act.

Rewarding yourself comes down to recognizing your efforts. This is intrinsic motivation at its finest. Focus on being your biggest fan instead of your worst critic. When you show up and achieve something that is deserving of a pat on the back, give yourself one!

7. Be Consistent

Have you ever wondered how some people are able to achieve success, while others don't? In my eyes, the secret is consistency. Everybody has dreams and goals, but if you don't have a consistent plan, you won't go anywhere.

Success isn't an accident. It doesn't happen by luck. Rather, it requires that you wake up every single day and execute. When something doesn't work, you've got to adjust and keep going. If you commit to doing the work over an extended period of time, you will be successful. However, if you only make excuses, you will never be able to achieve self discipline or become a master of your life.

Trust me when I say that there is power in being consistent. When you do something over and over again, you get better at it. It starts to become a part of who you are. If you want to go from good to great in life you can't give up. Instead, you've got to challenge yourself to become the best version of yourself until you reach the top. Discipline always defeats excuses. Don't forget that.

8. Find An Accountability Partner

An accountability partner will hold you accountable for things that you need to get done on a daily basis. As humans, we are social by nature, meaning that we feel a sense of responsibility to one another. It's easy to let yourself down. However, when you let someone else it doesn't feel good.

Think of an accountability partner as your personal cheerleader, someone who is in your corner inspiring you to keep going. In my experience, there is no better way to get things done faster and achieve your goals. Seek out a person whom you trust and that shares the same values as you.

Share with your accountability partner 1-2 things that you want to accomplish in one or more areas of your life. Make a commitment that you will see those things through. You will amaze yourself what a difference this partnership will make to your overall motivation, willpower and self discipline.

I believe that discipline is one of the most important traits that you can develop.

Without the ability to get things done on a continual basis, you will never make progress towards your goals. The difference between the people who achieve greatness versus those that don't is self discipline. Discipline has given me the freedom to live life on my terms and create massive success in every area of my life.

If you make it a priority to flex your discipline muscle every single day, you will become unstoppable. In the words of John C. Maxwell, “Motivation keeps you going, but discipline keeps you growing.”

Discipline is your secret weapon for success. Are you ready to start using it to your advantage?

Today I would like to walk you through my morning ritual for daily success, motivation and productivity. This routine allows me to optimize my body, mind, and spirit so that I can perform at my best, every day.

I’m a big believer in the power of rituals. I’ve been doing them since I was 17 years old. I used to struggle with shyness, social anxiety, and depression.

By creating a morning ritual, I was able to recondition my beliefs and transform every area of my life.

The morning is the best time to condition your mindset. Research shows that your mood in the morning affects your productivity all day.

Are you ready to wake up every day, feeling more productive, energized, and happier? My morning ritual for daily success, motivation and productivity will allow you to make that happen.

Discipline is one of greatest barriers that prevent people from achieving success in life. If you want to build habits that stick, you need to be consistent with them. In the words of Tony Robbins says, “The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.”

How you start the day is how you end the day. If you only engage in a habit once in a while, it won’t stick. It’s what you do consistently that makes the difference.

How do you start your mornings?

If you wake up in a reactive state, you will move throughout your entire day feeling stressed and anxious. A lot of people believe that they need a triple espresso as soon as they get out of bed. This way of thinking is counterintuitive.

My morning ritual for daily success, motivation and productivity provides me with a natural ‘buzz.' It makes me feel unstoppable, without the negative effects that come from over-use of stimulants.

Do you wake up every morning, feeling tired and sluggish, even though you slept for 8 hours? If so, it’s time to start a morning ritual.

If you want to maximize your productivity, you need to spend the first part of your morning taking care of YOU. If you make your job, your partner, or your friends a priority, then you need to commit to making yourself a priority as well.

Just like you train your body at the gym, you need to train your brain every day. I treat myself as if I am a high-performance athlete. I know that if I want to get the most out of myself, I have to create rituals that will allow me to do just that.

In order to make sure that I successfully complete my morning ritual for daily success, motivation and productivity, I create a list and check-off each activity, as I complete it.

The purpose of a checklist is so that I can visually measure my progress as time goes on. If you don’t have a plan for your life and you just move throughout your day aimlessly, then you’re not going to get the most out of it.

Here is my morning ritual for daily success, motivation and productivity:

1. Smile

The first thing that I do the moment that I wake up is smile. When you start your day with gratitude, it shifts your entire perspective. Every day that you are alive is a gift, and you need to treat it as such. Don’t ever take your life for granted.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t feel happy and positive 100% every morning, but by training myself to smile and start the day in an empowering way, I am setting myself up for success.

Research shows that when you smile, neurochemicals and peptides are released, which tricks your body into raising your dopamine; which in turn raises your spirits and calms your nervous system.

2. Drink Water

After you’ve been sleeping for 7-8 hours your body is dehydrated, and your cells crave water. I’ve got a water ionizer that I use which produces high quality, 9.5 alkaline water.

By drinking water first thing in the morning, you kick-start your metabolism, which will give you immediate energy and flush out toxins from your body.

3. Take Supplements

I start off by taking a shot of apple cider vinegar, which is a great bacteria killer. Then, on an empty stomach, I take a digestive enzyme supplement called, Masszymes. I also take a variety of other supplements, like B12 and Vitamin D3.

Supplements like these ensure that I have energy throughout the day, so that I never have to rely on caffeine or sugar. More importantly, engaging in this body ritual ensures that I will experience optimal health and performance, over the long-term.

4. Read A Book

I spend at least 10 minutes every morning reading an inspiring book on my Kindle reader. Don’t start your day by obsessing over social media, or reading negative things on the news. Instead, try feeding your mind with positive information and commit to learning something new.

5. Write in my Journals

After reading a book, I like to write in my Five Minute Journal, a simple exercise that allows me to focus on what is most important for me to accomplish throughout my day.

I also write in my Productivity Planner, which offers a similar process. I write down what my most important task for the day is, what my secondary tasks of importance are, and then determine what my daily productivity score is.

For those of you who are spiritual, I also write in my Christian gratitude journal.

6. Lie Down On My PEMF Mat

A PEMF mat is a portable mat that produces pulsed electromagnetic fields around an individual’s body. I lie on this mat every morning and do my meditation.

The health benefits of PEMF are amazing, some of which include regenerating nerves, reducing stress and fatigue, and eliminating bodily toxins.

I hope you enjoyed learning about my morning ritual for daily success, motivation and productivity! If you want the more in-depth version, that covers all of my rituals, then join my 7-day course, Morning Ritual Mastery.

Rituals have been the secret to my success, and have allowed me to become the person that I am today. Invest in yourself. Your body, mind, and spirit deserve it.

I recently finished reading the book Relentless: From Good To Great To Unstoppable by Tim Grover.  It's a really powerful, motivating read as it will force you to demand MORE from yourself.

In this video blog, I share what it means to be relentless and unstoppable in your life.  I share the mindset of a “Cleaner”, which is a term used in Tim's book for those that have the highest standards and the absolute best at what they do.

All right guys, how to be relentless, how to be unstoppable. It all starts right here, right here in the mind guys. It's your mindset, if you want to be successful in your life, you have to cultivate the mindset of a champion, the mindset of someone that is successful.

Your current mindset right now, your current belief system, your current blueprint, has gotten you exactly where you are today.

If you're not happy with where you're at right now, you're not happy with the results in your life, you don't have the success that you want, the body, the health, the vitality, the relationship, then, it's because your mindset is flawed.

Your mindset is missing that edge, is missing that belief, it's missing that certainty. The relentlessness, the unstoppability, to really get you beyond where you are right now until where you want to be.

Your mindset has to be conditioned

Your mindset has to be cultivated. How do you get the mindset, how do you become relentless? How do you become unstoppable? Through modeling, we live in a world where there are many people that are more successful than you and me.

There's already people out there that have the edge, they are relentless, they are unstoppable, whether that'd be in sport and business.

It doesn't matter what endeavor in life, in order to be the best at that, you have to have the right mindset. You can read books, you can learn and model from these great people, these legends, the Michael Jordan's of the world, and cultivate their belief systems as well.

It's not enough just to observe, you can't just watch someone and expect to take on just through osmosis their mindset and their belief system, that's one element of it, but you have to go deeper.

The best way to do it is to condition yourself guys, you have to condition, the strength and the psychology within yourself, every single day. That's what all the great people in the world do. If you look at a professional athlete, whether that's LeBron James, or Kobe Bryant, or Dwyane Wade, or Michael Jordan, they've all conditioned that mindset.

They went after the best and the best, they learned from them, they found coaches and mentors, and they worked on not just their physical body and their talent but also their mind, because they recognized that the mind is what's going to allow themselves to maximize their potential. To maximize the talent or the athleticism or whatever, other gifts that they might have in their lives.

They conditioned it, every single day, it's a habit. You condition it through reading and modeling other people, you can condition it through affirmations, incantations, having a morning ritual, pushing yourself and challenging yourself again and again, and having mentors and coaches.

Have a strong why

Demanding more of yourself, raising your standards, having a strong why? A mission, a purpose beyond yourself.

Having those reasons that will drive you, you got to cultivate all that guys. That's why I'm a big fan of morning rituals. I preach ever since 2012, my YouTube channel and years before then, before I was even on YouTube, because a morning ritual, since I was 17 years old, is something that transformed my life.

Just the act of doing something for myself every day, conditioning myself, to be the person that I want to be, over a matter of years, of you to do something, enough times, you do any habit, enough times, it becomes a part of you, becomes part of who you are, becomes automatic. Becomes your identity.

That's what I've done in my life, I'm reading a great book right now guys, called “Relentless,” and it kind of spurred the topic of this video.

Tim Grover

I've got my kindle here, I'm going to read you guys from the book, it's from Tim Grover. Tim Grover was the trainer, not just for the body but also the mind, of a lot of the great athletes in the world, basketball players, such as Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, they've all gone to him to help condition their body and their mind.

He often talks about the mindset as the most important thing. I recommend this book, by the way, but I'm going to read you guys some passages from it because it really demonstrates the mentality of someone that is relentless, someone that is successful, and the best in the world at what they do.

Again, this mentality, I'm using sports as an example, but is beyond that, it can be applied to anything in your life. It says, “Forget about losing, forget about trying, because if you're trying, then losing is still an option, you want to be the best, then you ignore the pain and the exhaustion, and the pressure to please everyone else.

You don't let your enemies take your balls, you don't let them set up shop in your head. When all hell breaks loose on the outside, you barely notice. You're calm on the inside because you're ready, prepared and the best at what you do. You don't tell anyone how you're going to handle the situation, you just handle it. Everyone else is panicking and choking, and you just say, no problem.”

“You step on the other guys throat, and you finish the fight, and afterward you don't explain how you did it, they won't understand, and they don't have to. You just take a moment alone to recognize what you accomplished and you move on to the next challenge.”

That's the mindset guys of someone that's relentless, and that was advice that he gave to an athlete that he was working with at the time, a basketball player in the playoffs.

Be relentless

“What else do I have here? Is really good.” “In real life, being relentless is a state of mind that can give you the strength to achieve, to survive, to overcome. To be strong when others are not, that means craving the end results so intensely that the work becomes irrelevant.

Not just in sports but in everything that you do. You can't keep improving if you fear others will disapprove of what you're doing. The only difference between feedback and criticism is the way that you hear it, and I heard it all.”

“To be the best, whether, in sports or business, or any other aspect of life, it's never enough to just get to the top, you have to stay there. Then you have to climb higher because there's always someone right behind you trying to catch up.

Be unstoppable

You see, most people are willing to settle for good enough, but if you want to be unstoppable, those words mean nothing to you. Being the best means, engineering your life so you never stop until you get what you want, then you keep going until you get what's next.

The you go for even more, relentless, being relentless means demanding more of yourself than anyone else could ever demand of you, knowing that every time you stop, you can still do more, you must do more.”

That's being relentless guys, that's the mindset you have to cultivate. That's the belief system if you want to be successful, this is something from the best in the world, the one commonality to have the uncommon, to have been the cause of being successful, being unstoppable, being relentless.

Cultivate that every day in yourself guys, build your mindset, focus more on your mind than anything else, that will take you to where you want to go. Thanks for watching.
